Guides about the Mage Class.
Hello, i'm writing this guide specifically for mages as they have the abilities that are best for the job, this may be possible for other classes. Who knows?
Anyway, here goes;
Location: Silithus.
Build: Preferably Frost.
Essence of Air Grinding
In the northwestern corner of Silithus, there are approximately 50-70 air elementals. They have a slim chance to drop Essence of Air (these baby's sell for 10-20g each on my server), but this slight probability is reduced if you're killing all 70 at once.
Let's get some dosh!
Start on the outskirt of the elemental spawn. Throw on Ice Barrier (it won't ever break, really) and gather one elemental by running into it. Cast Rank 1 Arcane Explosion and run to another elemental. For each mob that aggros you, cast Rank 1 Arcane Explosion once. This will make sure that they never de-aggro you and run back to their original spawn point. Repeat the process until every single air elemental is following you, or an amount that suits you.
Followed by:
Next, Frost Nova followed by Cone of Cold, then spam Arcane Explosion until they all die. They're a pain to loot sometimes since they're all clustered together, but by manuvering your screen cam around, you can easily loot every single mob. Each pull takes next to no time to respawn and you can repeat this again and again.
To conclude:
On average, I gathered about 15 Essences using this method, in roughly 50 minutes. That's 150g per. hour atleast.
I reccommend you have decent gear when attempting this as if you are fresh into level 60, you may expererience difficulties.
Intro
How's it going? I'm Eragon, you might have read my paladin guide well, now I'm back and I'm ready to give some mages some advice! I have a 20 mage on Sen'jin and I love to play on him let me tell you about mages please.
Why Play A Mage?
Mages are alot of fun and make are a important part of WoW! They do a BUNCH of damage and DPS. They have a low amount of armor but thats why they do alot of damage. They are made to defeat thier opponents before they get to them and if they get to them to impair their movement and then step back again. They also are made for doing alot of damage to multiple enemies. Mages are a key to any group doing anything
Mage Professions
Mages can choose from alot of differnt professions unlike paladins the possiblities are vast. They can use Engineering & Mining mainly for the mount, but also for when they are out of mana they can easily just throw dynamite or let a minion go get them. A good one is enchanting because mages need as much intellect as they can get so the enchants help a lot. I would say the best is Tailoring because its good armor right after you finish 1 dungeon run. Instead of selling all the cloth make some armor.
Fire Mages
Fire Mages are great for doing damage alone and befare they have to impair thier enemy(ies) movement. They reduce some mana cost with a talent as well as having a Dragon's Breath talent witch Can do a lot of damage instantly. Good for Dungeons and PvP
Arcane Mages
Arcane Mages are almost exactly like Fire Mages . Once again I say Arcane Mages do ALOT of damage. They have a cool talent spell that allows the mage to slow it's target, great for all the runners. Good for Dungeons and Roleplaying
Frost Mages
Have I put you to sleep yet? Good I haven't! Okay the final type I would like to talk about is Frost Mages! Frost mages do alot of damage after impairing their enemy a couple of times. Their attacks cost the least mana and charge the fastest. They get to summon a water elemental as a talent, along with a ability that finished the cooldown of all fost spells.Good for Roleplaying and PvP
Conclusion
Please give me feedback on how I could improve future guides and make this one better. I also realize that I'm not a real good mage specialist so i know i might have made a few wrongs! Thanks a lot!

Introduction:
Long time ago, mages lived only in Dalaran. But after the Burning Leagion's attack, magic spread all along the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. A mage controls Frost, Fire and Arcane magic. His ability to sheep oponents makes him a must-have when beating more than 1 oponent. Besides that, mages can conjure water and food. They can also teleport to major cities at lvl 20 (30 for capitals with less majority-Darnassus,Thunder Bluff) and make portals at lvl 40 (50 for DS and TB).
Available races:
Suitable professions:
Grouping:
In instances, mages are a must-have in most of the seups. As a caster-type class, you should always be at a good range away from the mobs having the tanks get hit. Remember,!!!MAGES SHOULD NEVER BE TOUCHED!!!. Your job is to deal damage. Don't bother about the tanks or the healers. Concentrate on nuking. Most of times, you'll die from two hits from boss mobs and that's not good. A dead dmg dealer deals the same dmg a healer deals. If you get aggro, don't run away. Best way to get aggro off is the Ice Block spell but it's a talent-only spell (frost). Other option is not to get aggro at all-BoS, Taunt. Also, when you're away from the mobs, the group is attacking, try not to go too far and get out of range or accidentaly pull ads.
Talents:
The three posible trees for mages are arcane/fire/frost.For fast grinding mobs 1 by 1,I'd suggest a fire or fire/arcane build:
Fire(there are only 48 talent points in fire but you'll probably respec at lvl 60,so it doesn't matter where you'll put the other points)
Fire/Arcane(21/30/0)
Another possibility is AoE grinding. For this type, the best mage is the fire/frost mage:
Fire/Frost(0/21/30)(Note:This is not the ultimate build. If you have a better one-feel free to post it and I'll add it)
For PVP you should use a frost/arcane build as your survivability will increase significantly with it.
When you start doing MC and BWL, even BRD, you'll need to respec as the the mobs there are immune to fire (only the elementals are immune in BRD). I recommend the build I use:
Frost/Arcane(18/0/33)
Class quests:
You can see all the mage-only quests and everything about them here. I advise you to do the first quest. Get the staff from it - Ley Staff (Human,Undead)/Arcane Staff(Gnome,Troll), as you won't find a better one till you finish Deadmines.
Also,Tabetha's quests - a wand and a staff/orb(the staff is better
) + she'll give you a Zul'Farrak, Scarlet Monastery and Uldaman quest. The quest in ST/Temple of Atal'Hakkar is boring (the pre-quests,I mean) and the prices are not worth it. Better skip the quests I didn't mention. Especially, the pristine spider's silk quest. Try to get the Arcanist's Cookbook at lvl 54.The quest is in DM and will give you a trinket which gives you +10 fire res and decent dmg with spells and healing (^^) increasment.
Hope it'll help the brothers and sisters mages.

1 Introduction
the mighty mages,
Rulers of the Arcane Magic , Counterparts of the Dreaded Warlock , Master of The Elements ,
This is what defines a Mage ,
...
Seems Uber eh ?
Not really , the Mage is complicated , and there are alot of counters ect.
BUT , thats for the pro‘s , this is a newbie guide
Now , lets us proceed , shall we ?
2 How is it like ?
Mages , are really different then Warriors , Priests , and Druids , theres is a unique playstyle attached to them .
Mages kite .
Kiting is the art of Aggro‘ing an enemy , but keeping him from touching you . And eventally dragging him around .
Mages ( and Hunters , for that matter ) have a large arsenal of kiting spells .
As this is for beginners , i will explain them quickly and simple
Frost Nova This is a spell attained at level 8 .
It will root an enemy in Ice for awhile giving you a chance to run backwards and casting some more . ( So you aren‘t hit , wich is the main point of this spell , if you stay there and it it hits you . try to run backwards please .
Cone Of Cold Attained at level 26
Cone Of Cold , will damage an enemy at a relatively bad mana/damage rate , but will slow enemies down , and that is the real use . No more Comment , check out 4. Combos for more info .
Blink this spell is attained at level 20 , and also seems extremely fun ! it is too
But , on my first mage , i tought , << Hey , nice , a movement increase >> but that was about it .
On my second Mage , i realized something this spell was darn usefull ! when i couldn‘t go backwards , i would just Frost Nova ( FN) + Blink and cast my Frostbolt while the enemy would shiver
Polymorph this makes the enemy unable to do anything provided you don‘t attack it , use this on extra adds , or PvP DO NOT use this on weakened enemies , since they regen hp extremely fast .
I can‘t come up of anything else at the moment . Please leave feedback if you know something .
3 Playstyle
Edit this is summed up in part 2 and 3 and more depends on talent builds . view part 5 for more info .
4. Combo‘s
Ok , some combo‘s , here goes ...
For those who adore Frost .
FN + Cone Of Cold ( Providing you have the Shatter talent )
[b]Description FN (an) enemy(s) then Cone Of Cold to see a nice crit ! ( most likely )
You can also go for ...
FN + Walk Back + 3x Frostbolt .
Description ( now referred to as Descr. ) time to hand in damage ! if you have Shatter , and do it fast , you can rack in 2 Frostbolts before FN expires wich leads to 2x chance on a 50% crit rate !
can‘t come up with anything else i use . If any of you fellow mages now a neat trick , please add it in , with a description of the use , and i will edit it .
For our lil‘ Pyromancers ...
What can i say ? Spam Fireball till the enemy is near you , throw in a Fireblast , FN , backwards , 2x Fireball , Fireblast ( they should be dead by now )
For those who have Presence of Mind ( 21 pt Arcane Talent )
PoM + Pyroblast = quick deads in PvP .
Arcane
Please leave feedback , i haven‘t experienced this <
5. Talents
I will make talents assuming of Patch 1.11 as i cannot find an old Talent Calculator ,
Sorry ! S
The grinding one
( due to a short amount of time , i will list the order in a short way , not a long one )
You can choose wether to go Fire or Frost first , and if you want ( im suggesting Elemental ) you can go for Arcane , i will try to list the best of each build .
www.wowhead.com/talent...ZVVGcRct0o
Imp will refer to as improved
2/2 means you spend 2 of the 2 available talent points in that talents .
5/5 Imp Frostbolt
2/2 Imp Frost Nova
3/3 Imp Frostbite
5/5 Ice Shards
5/5 Shatter
3/3 Piercing Ice
1/1 Cold Snap
3/3 Frost Channeling
2/3 Imp Blizzard
1/1 Ice Block
1/1 Ice Barrier
then you can go
5/5 Imp Fireball
5/5 Ignite
1/1 Pyroball
2/2 BUrning Soul
2/2 Flame Throwing
2/2 Imp Flamestrike
3/3 Master of Elements
You can go Fire to start like this
5/5 Imp Fireball
5/5 Ignite
1/1 Pyroball
2/2 Burning Soul
2/2 Flame Throwing
3/3 Imp Flamestrike
3/3 Master of Elements
1/1 Blast Wave
3/3 Critical Mass
5/5 Fire Power
1/1 Combustion
Then in Frost you go like this
5/5 Imp Frostbolt
2/2 Imp Frost Nova
3/3 Imp Frostbite
5/5 Ice Shards
5/5 Shatter
For Arcane start out like this
5/5 Imp Arcane Missiles
5/5 Arcane Concentration
5/5 Arcane Focus
2/2 Imp Counterspell
3/3 Arcane Meditation
From this part , you can pick 2 roads , they lead back eventually but you can spend 6 Talent Points in 2 totally different ways .
You can go for 1/1 Arcane Resilience
and then 5/5 Arcane Mind
OR you can pick 3 out of these 4 choices and spend em
2/2 Imp Mana Shield
2/2 Wand Spec
2/2 Magic Attunement
2/3 Imp Arcane Explosion ( you can add 1 point to this and drop one in 1 out of 3 of the aforementioned )
then the paths line up again and you take
3/3 Arcane Instability
1/1 Arcane Power
you now have 20 points left , pick em in what you like , don‘t forget
For Frost , Shatter and Ice Shards rock
For Fire Ignite does alot of extra damage in the end , it beats Impact ! so does Imp Fireball
5. Proffessions And Stuff Like That
I hope its helpful ! Since i spent alot of time working on it , and its not nearly half as good as other guides , but im doing ALL this work ( though i did few things ) just to repay all the great things people like Dusi , Snowflake , Techy , Jame , Antarax and the rest i forgot did! Thanks alot for everything guys !
And..Thanks Unbreakable )
Addition from Trekloss:
Im no mage pro, but heres some stuff to put inAoE (should be an own topic)
AoE is basically to hurt many mobs at once. SOme spells like blizzards do it over time and from a distance, and some, like arcane explosion, doest it at close range, and does instant danmage.
Heres a nice AoE trick
If you are a frost mage, get Improved Blizzard and Shatter.
Now, your blizzard slows people down, and got a HUGE crit chance when the mobs are freezed! P How do you use this? Heres the explanation.
Run around, aggro 5-15mobs (depending on mob lvl and your lvl / gear)
now, use frost nova, freezing them. Now, you blink away to not get hurt too much, and use Blizzard at the crowd (remember to freeze them when they are close together). They will now be rained down by crits, and when the freezing is over, theyre 70% slower! Now, run around and use arcane explosion or something (instant cast after next patch) until theyre dead. If you are a frost mage, you prolly have the talent that makes Frost Nova cooldown be faster, and then you soon can cast it agai. Probhably, they`ll be dead by this time though. And now, you`ve brought down a heap of mobs in the time of 1! Feast in exp and loot, and be glad youre a frost mageThis is pretty hard wothout the right frost talents.
Other tips
Get int gear! This gives you crit chance, and more mana. All very important for mages.
Use you buffs, let them be on always!
Get a playstyle, and perfect it
Thats all from me for the moment.
