First Aid is a great profession to have. For many, it is actually an essential profession. Where First Aid really shines is in PvP. For non-healing classes, this is a great boost. If they can keep the enemy at hold for a few seconds, the healing from First Aid really helps alot. It can be the difference between life and death. Not just in PvP, but also in PvE, especially when leveling. Ever played a mage and had a close-to-death match where you just barely managed to freeze the target and first aid yourself? Personally, I once kept the tank alive for a few seconds longer using First Aid on him while playing my rogue in some dungeon.
This is a guide that will make it easier to level up your first aid, so that you can benefit from it in the situations presented above, and many others. I have made the shopping list with two thoughts in mind; it is the approximate number of cloths you'll need, and it is also linked to Wowhead so that you can look up which mobs has the highest drop rate relevant to your level. This enables you to grind for the cloth, or simply routing it with your leveling, instead of spending money on it on the AH. Also, many servers don't offer too many cloths on the AH, which is another reason to grind.

This guide is designed to level Fishing and Cooking together. I recommend being a high level character (at least 70) when using this guide, but you can use it in stages as you level up. Overall, Cooking will level faster than Fishing, so after 225 we will concentrate on Cooking. Fishing will still level up, but you will catch some junk if you're not high enough level. You can also level Fishing by working on the Fishing Achievements. You can find links to the Fishing and Cooking Achievements at the end of the Trainers list.
I'm going to include both Horde and Alliance since they can follow the same paths, with just a few detours.
Horde Trainers, Vendors and locations will be in RED, Alliance will be in BLUE and Neutral will be in this COLOR. I'm going to use the starting areas I think are the best, but you can start in any of them if you have a preference (all trainers are listed at the end).
Always cook every fish you catch (even when they are gray), it's not much but cooked fish sell to Vendors for more than raw fish do. Always start at the bottom of your recipe list, you can make full use of your fish this way.
Get the Fishing Buddy addon, it will auto-cast, auto-lure, automatically turn on the Find Fish tracking option (when you get it), and it has a counter that will tell you how many fish you need to get to your next skill point (this makes you not go crazy). It also does a lot of other stuff, but those are the important things for leveling. GatherMate is another good addon to have.
Ask an Engineer to make you 30 Aquadynamic Fish Attractors. Mats: 20 Bronze Bars, 10 Nightcrawlers, 10 Coarse Blasting Powder (or 10 Coarse Stone so they can make the powder). Have more made if you run out.
Horde go train at Thunder Bluff: Kah Mistrunner (Fishing), Aska Mistrunner (Cooking).
Buy all the recipes from Sewa Mistrunner (Fishing Supplies), Naal Mistrunner (Cooking Supplies).
Alliance go train at Stormwind: Arnold Leland (Fishing), Stephen Ryback (Cooking).
Buy all the recipes from Catherine Leland (Fishing Supplies), Erika Tate (Cooking Supplies).
Buy a Fishing Pole and a stack of Shiny Baubles (you can't use the good lures until Fishing 100).
Now head to Bloodhooof Village in Mulgore or Goldshire in Elwynn Forest.
Alliance buy Recipe:Longjaw Mud Snapper from Tharynn Bouden (Trade Supplies). Horde will already have this recipe.
Go to Stonebull Lake or Crystal Lake, equip your pole, apply a lure, and start Fishing.
Until Fishing 125 you will get a skill point with almost every catch, after 125 it will take you 2 or more catches to skill up.
Fish until you reach 75. Find your Fishing Trainer in the area (Uthan Stillwater or Lee Brown) and train.
Learn Recipe:Brilliant Smallfish and cook all you can. If you haven't reached Cooking 50, fish for more.
At Cooking 50, learn Recipe:Longjaw Mud Snapper and cook all of them.
You're probably not at Cooking 75 yet, but we're going to move because there is a higher catch rate for Raw Longjaw Mud Snappers in these other locations.
Go to Thunder Bluff, train Cooking, and fish from the small pond on the lower rise or Stormwind, train Cooking and fish from the canals.
Cook all of your fish and make sure you have Cooking 75. Time to head to Hillsbrad Foothills.
Head to Tarren Mill or Southshore and go over to the river. Fish in the Sagefish schools. Occasionally you will fish up a trunk, open it and hope you get a Weather-Beaten Journal which will teach you the Find Fish ability.
When you reach Fishing 150, cook until Cooking 150, then visit your trainers.
Horde go to Undercity: Armand Cromwell (Fishing Trainer), Eunice Burch (Cooking Trainer).
Alliance go to Ironforge: Grimnur Stonebrand (Fishing Trainer), Daryl Riknussun (Cooking Trainer).
Cook the rest of your fish.
Be sure to get all the recipes from your Cooking and Fishing Suppliers. They are near the Trainers.
If your Cooking is not 175 yet, go back to Hillsbrad Foothills until it is.
If you don't have the Weather-Beaten Journal, don't worry you can still get it at the next stop.
Head to Altreac Mountains, to Lordmere Lake near the Dalaran Crater. Fish from the Greater Sagefish schools all along the shore. If you didn't get the Weather-Beaten Journal, fish in the Waterlogged Wreckage pools until you get it. Don't leave here without it!!
Get Fishing and Cooking to 225. This will allow you to get Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole (this is the best pole in the game until you get lucky on a Fishing Daily in Dalaran, get exalted with the Kalu'ak or win the Fishing Contest in Stranglethorn Vale). Click for more info on fishing poles.
Go Train in Undercity or Ironforge.
Get the Aquadynamic Fish Attractors from your bank (you need them now).
Now you have to do some traveling.
Go to Dustwallow Marsh and find Nat Pagle (58,60). Pick up Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme.
Fly to Gadgetzan, run to Steamwheedle Port and buy all the recipes from Gikkix.
Back to Gadgetzan, fly to Camp Mojache or Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas and buy all the recipes from Sheendra Tallgrass or Vivianna.
Go to Verdantis River, Feralas (62,52) for Feralas Ahi
Next head to Sar'theris Strand, Desolace (25,77) for Sar'theris Striker
Get to Booty Bay however you want and find Kelsey Yance in the Old Port Authority building. Buy all of his recipes.
Go to Savage Coast, Stranglethorn Vale (33,32) for Savage Coast Blue Sailfin
Go to Misty Reed Strand, Swamp of Sorrows (90,73) for Misty Reed Mahi Mahi
Go to Dustwallow Marsh and see Nat Pagle (58,60) again. Turn in Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme and get Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole. Click for more info on fishing poles.
At this point we're going to concentrate on Cooking since you can fish anywhere and still level. Fishing for 10-20 minutes (1-2 lures) at each location should get your cooking where it needs to be.
Go to Azshara.
Start near the shore (I like (50,50) on the ruins jutting into the water). Cook to at least 250.
Move out to The Bay of Storms (on the island with Scalebeard's Cave (54,50) is a good spot).
Cook to 300 (You will need Refreshing Spring Water to cook the lobsters, so save them until you get to a vendor). If you want to stay here until Fishing 275, feel free.
Don't forget to get Refreshing Spring Water.
Time for Outland.
Head for Thrallmar or Honor Hold and train Cooking from Baxter or Gaston. Cook the rest of the fish from Azshara.
Horde get all the recipes from Rungor (Stonebreaker Hold, Terokkar Forest), Nula the Butcher (Garadar, Nagrand), Gambarinka (Zabra'jin, Zangermarsh), and Zurai (Swamprat Post, Zangarmarsh).
Alliance get recipes from Innkeeper Biribi (Allgerean Stronghold, Terokkar Forest), Uriku (Telaar, Nagrand), and Doba (Orebor Harborage, Zangarmarsh). You need to be at least Neutral with the Kurenai to talk to the last 2 NPCs.
Now Head to Cenarion Refuge, Zangarmarsh and buy all the recipes from Juno Dufrain. If your Fishing is 275, train it too.
Start in Umbrafen Lake (I like the island around (73,63)). After about 10 minutes (1 lure) here you can start working on your Fishing Achievements starting with Outland Angler.
Outland Angler locations:
Zangarmarsh: Brackish Mixed School, Sporefish School
Nagrand: Bluefish School, Mudfish School
Terokkar Forest: Brackish Mixed School, Highland Mixed School, School of Darter
Kylene (World's End Tavern, Shattrath) has 3 recipes, but you have to train them. Stewed Trout is skill 320, Fisherman's Feast and Hot Buttered Trout are 350.
Cook to at least 350.
Here are the Cooking Trainers in Northrend. Get all the recipes.
Rollick MacKreel (Valiance Keep, Borean Tundra)
Brom Brewbaster (Valgarde, Howling Fjord)
Katherine Lee (A Hero's Welcome, Dalaran)
Orn Tenderhoof (Warsong Hold, Borean Tundra)
Thomas Kolichio (Vengeance Landing, Howling Fjord)
Awilo Lon'gomba (Sunreaver's Sanctuary, Dalaran)
Make sure you do the quest Northern Cooking (there are 2 versions for each Faction), you will need the reward later for one of the Cooking Dailies. You can't get this quest in Dalaran!!
The recipes, requiring fish, that will get you from 350 - 400 are:
Baked Manta Ray
Grilled Sculpin
Pickled Fangtooth
Poached Nettlefish
Smoked Salmon
After 400 you will need to do the Dalaran Cooking Dailies (listed below) to get new recipes and Northern Spices. You can get the dailies at Cooking 350, but the recipes require Cooking 400 to learn. Pick the one(s) you like and cook them to 450.
Here are the Fishing Trainers in Northrend.
Old Man Robert (Valiance Keep, Borean Tundra)
Byron Welwick (Valgarde, Howling Fjord)
Fishy Ser'ji (Warsong Hold, Borean Tundra)
Angelina Soren (Vengeance Landing, Howling Fjord)
Marcia Chase (The Eventide, Dalaran)
In between catching fish to level Cooking, you can work on your Fishing Achievements to get some cool rewards and the "Salty" title. Catch stuff until you're 450.
Cheese for Glowergold:
Get 6 Half Full Dalaran Wine Glasses and Aged Dalaran Limburger. The wine glasses are found in your faction's Inn, in the Legerdemain Lounge, and One More Glass, the wine & cheese shop, where you will also loot the cheese. Convention at the Legerdemain:
Bring 4 Northern Stew (requires 4 Chilled Meat) and a Jug of Wine (looted in Dalaran's wine & cheese shop, One More Glass) to Arille Azuregaze at the Legerdemain Lounge in Dalaran. The Rhino Meat can be found on any rhino in Northrend and the Wild Mustard is a lootable plant found in grassy areas of Dalaran. Herbalists can track the mustard. This quest awards two Dalaran Cooking Awards instead of one!

This guide is intended to give you simple step-by-step directions to get your level 40+ Alliance character from zero to 300 in both cooking and fishing at the same time. It is not the only way to skill-up these professions, but it is a very easy way that requires a minimum of travel and keeps you in relatively safe areas. I created this guide because the only fishing/cooking combination guides I could find were written for horde characters. I used bits of this guide as a starting point and filled it out with specifics for us good guys. All drop percentages and location details were borrowed from Thottbot and Allakhazam.
A note on fishing: Fishing levels up at the same rate no matter where you fish. It is entirely possible to go from 1 to 300 skill points without ever leaving a newbie zone (except for training and the artisan quest, obviously). This would be incredibly boring and you wouldn't get all the useful / lucrative fish (not to mention not being able to skill-up cooking at the same time), but it will take no longer than if you fish in level-appropriate areas.
Apprentice fishing and cooking (1-75)
Journeyman Fishing and Cooking (50-150)
Expert Fishing and Cooking (125-225)
Artisan Fishing and Cooking (225-300)
Good luck, happy fishing, and bon apetit!
Tozzik's 1-400 No Fishing Cooking Guide
Stage 1: Azeroth
A: Collecting recipes
Train cooking and then re-open trainer window and train spice bread. (May not have to re-open)
Buy Recipe: Bat Bites and Recipe: Crunchy Spider Surprise from Master Chef Mouldier in Tranquillien.
Go to Desolace. Buy Expert Cookbook from Wulan in Shadowprey Village. Buy all cooking recipes from Vendor-Tron 1000 and Super-Seller 680 at North and South-West locations. (see note at end)
Learn Soothing Turtle Bisque from quest given by Christoff Jeffcoat. If you have already done this quest and no longer have the recipe, then substitute Roast Raptor, also purchased from Vendor-Tron 1000.
Purchase Recipe: Charred Bear Kabob and Recipe: Juicy Bear Burger from Bale in Bloodvenom Post.
Learn Smoked Desert Dumplings from Calandrath at Cenarion Hold in Silithus. (Alternatively purchase Recipe: Baked Salmon from Sheena Tallgrass in Camp Mojache if you happen to have high level fishing.)
B:Farming/Cooking
Starting in Silvermoon
Purchase simple flour and mild spices from cooking vendor and cook spiced bread until reaching 40.
Farm small eggs from dragonhawks outside Silvermoon and make herb baked eggs until reaching 65.
Fly to Ghostlands and farm bats and spiders for Bat Flesh and Crunchy Spider Legs. Cooking the Bat Flesh should get you to 110 and Spider Legs should allow you to reach 120.
Travel to Tarren Mill and hunt bears and turtles along the river to the east until you have 5 big bear meat. Cook 5 Big Bear Steak and reach 125 to learn Hot Lion Chops. Learn expert cooking from Cookbook.
Now go to the two raised areas in alterac just to the west of the alliance entrance to Alterac Valley and farm mountain lions. If they don't respawn fast enough you can also hunt them in Hillsbrad just south of that same area. Farm/cook lion meat until you reach 175.
Now farm turtle meat from snapjaws along the river east of Tarren Mill. Or if you were not able to attain Recipe: Soothing Turtle Bisque, fly to hammerfall and farm raptors outside the town there. Cook Roast Raptor or Turtle Bisque(Preferably the Bisque) until 225.
Now travel to Gadgetzan and get the quest Clamlette Surprise from Dirge Quickcleave.
The Giant Eggs are most easily farmed from owls in Felwood. The Zesty Clam Meat is most easily farmed from turtles on the eastern coast of Hinterlands. If you only want to make one trip, the various owlkin in Hinterlands can also drop Giant Eggs at a lower rate. Once you have the eggs and clam meat, head back to Gadgetzan and run to Caverns of time where you can buy the Alterac Swiss from Provioner Galgrom. Hand in the quest and you are now at Artisan Cooking.
Now continue farming Turtle Meat or Raptor Flesh from the above locations until you can cook enough to reach 250. (The last 15 points of this process are green skill chance, but still better than the alternative.)
Learn Charred Bear Kabob and Juicy Bear Burger and farm bears all through Felwood. Cook any combination of these two items until reaching 285.
Travel to Cenarion Hold in Silithus and Start farming the various worms in Silithus until you have enough Sandworm Meat to reach 300. (Or fish for Raw Whitescale Salmon in Eastern Plaguelands if you have a high fishing skill. You need to achieve about 400 fishing skill with lures to avoid fish getting away.)
Stage 2: Outland.
Travel to Thrallmar and purchase Master Cookbook from Baxter inside the inn. Then Purchase Recipe: Ravager Dogs from Cookie One-Eye near the stables in Thrallmar.
Fly to Falcon Watch and farm ravagers in the quillfang area just to the west of the town. Cook Ravager Dogs until reaching 325.
Fly to Garadar and buy Recipe: Roasted Clefthoof and Recipe: Talbuk Steak from Nula the Butcher who is in the small building on the raised area just to the east of the inn. Farm and cook Clefthoof Meat and Talbuk Venison until reaching 350.
Stage 3: Northrend
Travel to Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra and train grand master cooking and all the new cooking recipes. Exit warsong hold and farm rhinos to the north and northeast of the hold, cooking Rhino Dogs until reaching 400. (The last 18 points of this are green skill chance, but the only alternative is to prepare 18+ feasts which has a very high material requirement and would end up being a much longer farming session.)
Getting to 450 is totally a matter of preference. The only skill of note beyond this point is Fish Feast and this guide is designed to level cooking without fishing. All recipes requiring skill 400 and up require 3 Dalaran Cooking Awards to purchase and Northern Spices cost one award.
Note about Vendor-Tron 1000 and Super-Seller 680:
Both bots are part of the caravan that travels around Desolace. 1000 can be found at 60, 38 just northwest of Kormek's Hut. 680 can be found at 40, 80 just west of the split in the road leading south. The most important note about these vendors is that you must travel the entire road between these two points and locate the caravan, waiting for it to start moving. If you are not following the caravan and it leaves your range of vision it will stop moving.
Cooking is a profession that provides flavor to the game, no pun intended. Most mobs labeled as beasts have common drops for cooking. You can also take up fishing which will ease the pain of cooking and make the trip to Grand Master easier. This guide will support several options for everyone, even those with a strong aversion to fishing.

Several of the patterns I have mentioned are obtained through quests but have a faction alternate that can be obtained by vendor. If you have finished these quests in the past and have sold or trashed them, you will need to find a way to obtain them through the opposing faction vendor or find an alternative. The only quest that both sides can do is for the Smoked Desert Dumplings.
Desert Dumplings
The quest you need to get this recipe is Desert Dumplings which is given by the Calandrath, the innkeeper of Cenarion Hold. Calandrath will send you out to find a recipe the Twilight's Hammer use to prepare sandworm. The scroll can be found at 37, 45 which will start you on the second portion to return to Calandrath with Sharing the Knowledge. Upon completion you will learn how to make Smoked Desert Dumplings, of which you might want to hang onto at least 10 of these. You can do the quick follow-up Kitchen Assistance for a little gold, rep, and maybe experience if you're not at the cap yet.
Runn Tum Tuber Surprise
As an alternative to Desert Dumplings should you not be able to obtain the recipe for some reason you could try Runn Tum Tuber Surprise. This is an uncommon drop from a boss mob in Dire Maul:
Pusillin: Recipe: Runn Tum Tuber Surprise
To engage Pusillin you need to enter through the East sides Northern/Front Entrance [MAP]. Most would recommend if you are familiar with the event that you clear the path all the way to the back entrance to Dire Maul located at the Laris Pavilion just north of Camp Mojache in Feralas. If you are not familiar with the event there are plenty of walk-thrus on how to go about this, but you can simply talk to him and he'll run away to start the event. Clear the path along the top tier till you find him again, if you are below level 70 you will NOT be able to avoid the the Warpwood Crushers even if you try to walk along the courtyard ledge. You may have to make this run once or twice, but this pattern is almost a guaranteed drop.
Once you have obtained this recipe you will be need to farm the Warpwood Pods scattered all about the instance. Be wary, they have a chance to backfire and either spray you with toxic green mist or spawn 3 to 5 Whip Lashers, but you should be able to get enough for that final run to 300.
By the end of this guide, expect to have caught roughly 3,000 fish give or take.
To start, simply visit a trainer in any of the cities (or one of the few outside), buy a pole and get to work!
You can level from 1 all the way to 450 in any fish-able water, meaning it is possible to stand in Orgrimar all day and fish the same pool. The only problem with that method is that after level 75, you only earn credit for the successful catch of actual fish and not the junk.
Another thing to note is that the higher your skill level, the more fish you will need to catch in order to obtain the next level in your skill. Usually 10 or more. A rough equation to figure this out would be;
For those of you with lowbie's who want to start fishing sooner and don't feel like running from the start zone to a major city, you can visit the following trainers to get you new skill.
When you are ready to learn Grand Master fishing and cap off that skill limit, you can visit;
And there you have it, a list of your basic fishing poles. They get the job done and for the most part, are quite easy to obtain. Well maybe not the Darkwood or Big Iron poles, but you get the point.
For those of you who want something more, here are some Unique, Rare and Epic rods you can try to snag while you have some time to kill.
What is the bonus to this? You can start fishing in waters above your skill level! What more could you possibly want? Not to mention that it helps you catch more fish and less junk, which after obtaining a skill level of 75 is extremely important. Let's work our way through the list.
So you just learned fishing, what to do next? Well fish of course. Starting at level 1, find any pond of water and start fishing with your shiny new fishing pole equipped. I would recommend staying close to the Trainer when you first start and train Journeyman once you reach 50.
At level 75 (or 50 if you bought some Nightcrawlers) you can head out to the Barrens and fish just outside of WC (Wailing Caverns). Some people might suggest you head inside the caverns themselves, but I would advise you not do that. Heading inside the caverns would mean having to fight through numerous mobs before reaching the fishing hole, and having to fend them off once they respawn. While that doesn't seem like a big deal, it can be frustrating at best. Especially when you are kind of zoned out and not expecting to have to quick swap to your weapons before you wipe.
If you feel like it, you can simply fish these waters until you reach 300. It may be monotonous, but you will come out of it with stacks of Deviate Fish which sell rather well on the AH. If you are one of the lucky few who have the recipe for Savory Deviate Delight, you can cook up a few and make even more of a profit at auction.
Remember to visit your trainer at 75, 150 and 225 to further your skills along and not hit the limit cap. If you do that, then your just wasting your time out there in the waters.
Congratulations, you are ready to master the art of fishing. To begin, visit the Grand Master Fishing Trainer in the Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra or Dalaran and learn the next level in the skill.
Before heading out, first make sure that you at least have your Strong Fishing Pole and a stack of Bright Baubles. Of course I am only assuming you are leveling using vendor quality items only. If not, bring something else as this is only the basic setup you will need.
Head out along the coasts of the Howling Fjord and get to work. At first you are going to fish up alot of junk (just like when we first started) but as your skill goes up, the amount of junk collected will go down.
To catch all fish and no junk, you need a collective skill of 475 or better, so don't be too disappointed. When I say a collective skill, I mean your natural skill abilities, PLUS you buffs meaning the additional increase given by your pole, and the attachments of lures to your pole.
If your character is at level 80, I would recommend heading to Wintergrasp to fish instead of the Borean Tundra. The fishing will be the same as far as the fish to junk ratio is concerned, but the keepers sell better on the AH.
Don't forget to visit your trainer again at 375 to obtain the Grand Master skill.
