Guides about Engineering.
Table of Contents
Well, I've seen a lot of people requesting "guides" on which specialization in Engineering they should go (either Goblin or Gnomish) and since recently leveling Engineering for a second time, I decided I'd fulfill that plea by creating this guide on choosing your path. Also this is my first time writing a guide, so bare with me
.
Now without further ado, let's get started.
Well first, let's start with Tinkerwiz.
As his name suggests he is...well a wiz of tinkering. When you are level 30 and reach 200 Engineering you can visit this guy in Ratchet and pick either one of two quests: Goblin Engineering or Gnomish Engineering (Alliance Version). Picking a quest will not immediately set your Engineering to that specialization, but instead refer you to the proper trainer for each specialization. So you still have time after accepting the quest to change your mind.

If you accepted Goblin Engineering, head on down to Gadgetzan in Northern Tanaris. When you arrive, you'll find Nixx Sprocketspring in a small hut next to the Inn. Now when you turn in your quest, Nixx, will give you The Pledge of Secrecy. At this point you can still make a last minute decision to change your mind.
Goblin Engineering allows you to make ingenious explosives and even a Rocket Launcher. Unlike Gnomish Engineering, Goblin devices never fail catastrophically and always work, they just either harm you severely or otherwise kill you. Now, when you turn in this quest, there's no turning back. Your Engineering is intertwined with Goblin Engineering permanently and only certain means can reverse the damage done and those "means" aren't exactly easy to achieve. I'll get into that later on in the guide.
Note: Goblin Engineering may be better for Alliance trying to grind reputation with the Wintersaber Trainers as a direct teleportation to Winterspring is available exclusively to Goblin Engineers.
After that, Nixx will give you Show Your Work, which requires you to make 20 Big Iron Bombs, 20 Solid Dynamites and 5 Explosive Sheeps.
The breakdown on all the materials are:
Iron Bar x 30
Silk Cloth x 10
Wool Cloth x 20
Heavy Stone x 40
Solid Stone x 20
Bronze Bar x 20
Medium Leather x 5
Silver Bar x 2
Once you've made your bombs and exploding sheeps, it's time to turn in your quest and start really making some cool explosive devices.
Congratulations, you are now a Goblin Engineer
! Throughout the rest of your Engineering days you'll be able to make cool and dangerous gadgets like Dimensional Ripper - Area 52 and Goblin Rocket Launcher.
If you accepted Gnome Engineering (Alliance Version), take the boat to Booty Bay and go to Oglethorpe Obnoticus [Coords: 28,76]. If your Alliance, go to Tinker Town in Ironforge and talk to Tinkmaster Overspark. Turn in your quest and get the followup, The Pledge of Secrecy (Alliance Version).
Gnomish Engineering enables you to make bizzare gadgets. For instance, you can turn some one into a chicken or take control of their mind. The only drawback is Gnomish gadgets have a high chance of failure and is somewhat unreliable. Once you complete this quest, there's no turning back and your a Gnomish Engineer forever, preventing you from becoming a Goblin Engineer obviously.
Note: In 3.2, Horde will be able to obtain a Ravasaur mount by doing daily quests in the Southern Kalimdor area. Since Gnomish Engineers can teleport you directly to Gadgetzan, Horde players trying to go for the mount may want to choose Gnomish Engineering over Goblin.
Now, you'll receive Show Your Work (Alliance Version), which requires you to make 6 Mithril Tubes, 1 Accurate Scope and 2 Advanced Target Dummies.
The breakdown on all the materials are:
Iron Bar x 6
Mithril Bar x 18
Gold Bar x 1
Heavy Leather x 8
Bronze Bar x 6
Medium Leather x 2
Wool Cloth x 2
Citrine x 1
Jade x 1
Weak Flux x 1
Once you're done making your target dummies and mithril tubes, it's time to turn in your quest and begin making fantastic gizmos.
Congratulations, you are now a Gnomish Engineer
! For the rest of your Gnomish career, you'll be capable of making mind-boggling yet completely unreliable devices, like Gnomish Poultryizer and Gnomish X-Ray Specs.
So you leveled your engineering all the way and you think Gnomish Engineering is stupid, but you've already made your choice. So what do you do? Well, here's what you do.
Prior to patch 3.2 you had to relearn Engineering all over again. Well, that's not the case anymore. Instead just go to Narain Soothfancy's Hut in Northern Tanaris [Coords: 65, 18]. Then read his book, "Soothsaying for Dummies" and for a hefty 150 Gold you can unlearn your current Engineering Specialization without the consequences of losing the entire profession. You'll lose all schematics for the specialization, however, but retain all general Engineering items.
Well, that's it. I hope everyone liked this guide and found some use in it
Happy Engineering!

Introduction
Engineering is a primary crafting profession that can create as many useful items including end level epic helms, guns, bullets, arrows and scopes. Looking at that list it's no wonder that many hunters will find engineering useful but other classes will also find interesting items as an Engineer. The ability to harvest "clouds" for motes and crystallized elements, the Mechano-hog and Mekgineer's Chopper for example.
List of Materials
Hopefully you've taken mining as a second profession or you have access to a miner otherwise Engineering will be an expensive profession to take all the way to 450. I've worked some leeway into the guide, often by making extra when the recipe has turn yellow just incase you don't get a skill point. This means that there maybe some left over materials by the end.
There are occasions when you might need to buy extra. The Gnomish Knife at the end is a prime example of this. I've also not included the materials need to make the epic engineering helm as it is dependant on which you want to make for yourself.

| 110-120 | 10 x Bronze Tubes | 20 Bronze Bar 10 Weak Flux |
If you have got any extra points from before this you could only do enough to get to 120 |
| 120-125 | 5 x Large Copper Bombs | 15 Copper bars 20 Coarse Blasting Powder 5 silver contacts |
Visit the trainer time after this |
| 125-150 | 40 x Heavy Blasting Powder 20 x Whirring Bronze Gizmo |
40 Heavy Stone 40 Bronze Bar 20 Wool Cloth |
Both recipes go green around 145 but as you will need 40 powders and 20 gizmos for later so you should be able to get to 150 |
| 150-155 | 20 x Bronze Framework | 40 Bronze Bar 20 Medium Leather 20 Wool Cloth |
Again you will need 20 frameworks later so you might get further than 155 |

| 235-245 | 10 x Hi-Explosive Bomb | 20 Mithril Casings 10 Unstable Trigger 20 Solid Blasting Powder |
|
| 245-250 | 10 x Mithril Gyro-Shot | 20 Mithril Bar 20 Solid Blasting Powder |
No need to make more if you get to 250. |
| 250-260 | 50 x Dense Blasting Powder | 100 Dense Stone | You need at least 20 but it goes green at 255 so make as many as needed to get to 260 |
| 260-280 | 20 x Thorium Widget | 60 Thorium Bar 20 Runecloth |
|
| 280-285 | 5 x Thorium Tube | 30 Thorium Bar | |

| 310-320 | 10 x Fel Iron Casing 15 x 4 Elemental Blasting Powder |
30 Fel Iron Bar 30 Mote of Earth 15 Mote of Fire |
You need at least 5 casings and 25 powders but probably more due to Fel iron Bomb already being yellow at 320. So make at least 10 casings and 10 powders. If you haven't managed to get to 320 you might want to risk moving on to the Fel iron bombs as there is a chance to make some points up. |
| 320-325 | 10 x Fel Iron Bomb | 10 Fel Iron Casing 20 Handful of Fel Iron Bolts 10 Elemental Blasting Powder |
This is already yellow but you would be very unlucky not to get 5 points from 10 attempts. |
| 325-340 | 20 x 3 Adamantite Grenade | 80 Adamantite Bar 20 Elemental Blasting Powder 40 Handful of Fel Iron Bolts |
Only make enough to get to 340 as it goes yellow at 335 |

| 350-370 | 35 x 1-3 Handful of Cobalt Bolts | 70 Cobalt Bar | You'll need around 50 bolts for later so keeping going until you get enough |
| 370-375 | 18 x 2 Volatile Blasting Trigger | 54 Cobalt Bar 18 Crystallized Water |
You'll need a minimum of 25 triggers for later but we'll make 36 (18x2) as some of the recipes will go yellow and extras may be needed |
| 375-380 | 10 x Overcharged Capacitor | 40 Cobalt Bar 10 Crystallized Earth |
You'll need 10 capacitors later so keep going passed 380 |
| 380-385 | 10 x Hammer Pick | 50 Cobalt Bar | Only make enough to get to 385. If you're a miner keep 1 to replace your pick and hammer. |
| 385-390 | 8 x Explosive Decoy | 8 Frostweave Cloth 24 Volatile Blasting Trigger |
This is one of the yellow recipes that uses the triggers, so only make enough to get to 390 |
| 390-400 | 15 x Froststeel Tube | 120 Cobalt Bar 15 Crystallized Water |
You might not need all 15 so you can stop once you get to 400 and then come back to make more if needed for later recipes |
| 400-405 | 5 x Diamond-cut Refractor Scope | 5 Froststeel Tube 10 Handful of Cobalt Bolts |
|
| 405-415 | 15 x 2-4Saronite Bomb | 65 Saronite Bar 15 Volatile Blasting Trigger |
Another of the yellow recipes that uses the triggers, so just make enough to get to 415 |
| 415-420 | 5 x 5 Mana Injector Kit | 60 Saronite Bar 10 Crystallized Water |
|
| 420-430 | 15 x Mechanized Snow Goggles | 120 Saronite Bar 30 Borean Leather 15 Eternal Shadow |
Goes yellow at 425 so you might not need all 15 to get to 430 |
| 430-435 | 5 x Noise Machine | 10 Froststeel Tube 10 Overcharged Capacitor 40 Handful of Cobalt Bolts |
|
| 435-445 | 15 x Gnomish Army Knife | 150 Saronite Bar 15 Skinning Knife 15 Minning Pick 15 Blacksmithing Hammer |
Stop when you get to 445 to make the your engineering helm (assuming you want it) |
| 445-446 | 1 x Engineering helm example | Materials are dependant on what helm you want | I'm assuming that since you've gotten this far you will want the engineering helm |
| 446-450 | 15 x Gnomish Army Knife | 150 Saronite Bar 15 Skinning Knife 15 Minning Pick 15 Blacksmithing Hammer |
To get to the last couple of points is very expensive as the only really viable recipe to use is the Gnomish Army Knife which unfortunately goes green at 445. So just keep grinding them out till you get there. I would say at least 15-20 might be necessary.. unless you are very unlucky. |
This really is the end.. honest
I hope you found this guide useful. If you see any way I can make it better please feel free to comment and I'll make changes
Ok, being a regular user of Wow-Pro guides, I leveled my first Engineer to 375 and seeing the lack of a guide to help rise the last 75 skill points, y compiled what I think is the easiest and less expensive way to reach this goal.
.
.
.
Whenever you create "parts" to skill up, keep them - don´t sell them, you will be using them some time in the near future.
.
Most of the schematics are learned from the trainers, but the last 15 points will require some receipe grinding. Each require you to grind on specific mobs till the receipe drops for you (click on the wowhead link to see who drop´s what). These are BoP and can not be found in the AH.
.
More than one item in a level range means that you can choose which one to craft for the given range.
.
.
.
Here is the list:
.
.
300-310 Handful of Fel Iron Bolts = 1xFel Iron Bar
300-310 Elemental Blasting Powder = 1xMote of Fire + 2xMote of Earth
300-310 Fel Iron Casing = 3xFel Iron Bar
.
.
310-320 Fel Iron Bomb = 1xFel Iron Casing + 2xHandful of Fel Iron Bolts + 1xElemental Blasting Powder
310-320 Fel Iron Shells = 2xFel Iron Bar + 1xElemental Blasting Powder

It is important to note that once you choose either gnomish or goblin engineering you can't switch back unless you drop the profession and pick it back up again.
Gnomish engineering has some benefits that will help you with end-game things. These are devices that are both helpful and dangerous to use. The best one that I have seen so far is the transporter. There are two that you can get though I currently only have the transporter for Gadget. This transporter allows you to basically use the city as an alternate hearthstone every four hours. Be sure that if you plan on using this transporter you have a parachute cloak on first though.
The transporter says it's safe 4 times in the discription. I'm not a genius but to me that screams danger. If you don't have the pattern for the parachute cloak get it before you use the transporter. In the many times that I have used the transporter it has only safely deposited me at my destination four times. There are times when you apear to be normal and in tact but are replaced by your evil twin for two hours. At other times it may randomly turn you into a merloc or a gnoll. Most frequently, however, it will transport you to a spot 10,000 feet above and 10,000 feet away from your destination point.
It is at this time that you start removing as much of your armor as possible while you open your parachute. Keep in mind that you mar land on top of a buzzard or a wolf when you fall so don't remove your weapons only your armor so you don't fall too fast and don't have a large repair bill.
You must be wearing your parachute in order for it to open and don't open it immediately or you will run out of time on the fall and it will close before you reach the ground. Wait until you have been falling for a few seconds to open it.
If you plan to use your transporter keep in mind that you may fall onto elite mobs outside of the Zul'Farrak insance so if you are only lvl 35 be prepared to die horribly.
With that I bid you a happy and hopefully safe landing!
