Tailoring Gold
By Domobb

Tailoring is a great profession. People don't understand tailoring quite as well as they could. I thought it was a rubbish profession to use to make money. Although I have developed a great way to make gold with tailoring, and it involves using the auction house, but it is simple and free.

Addons:
Auctioneer

Requirements:
Tailoring from level 1-450.
Some items may require higher level tailoring to make so just stick to items that you can make.

These items you will want to make because they sell easily, and higher levels buy them for there alts to level up quicker.
Good sellers.
Simple kilt - may take from 20s-1g to make, sell higher price depending on price cost to make. (sell in bulk) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10047
Tuxedo pants - may take 1-3g to make, sell for 10-15g, these are great because they are rarer to the jacket. (sell 1-3 at a time) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10035
Enchanters cowl - Not to expensive, only make if thick spider's silk is cheaper than 20s, sell 3-5g. (sell 1-2 at a time) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=4322
Soft-soled linen boots - takes around 1-2g to make, sell for 3-4g depending on price. (sell in bulk(6) ) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=4312
Dreamweave vest - this is an awesome item because it may take only 1-3g to make, and you can sell it for 20-40g. (sell 1 at a time) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10021
Dreamweave circlet - another great item just like the vest. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10041
Dreamweave gloves - another great item just like the circlet and vest. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10019
Spidersilk boots - these boots may only cost 1-5g to make, although 1 mat is very expensive, if you find it cheap can sell up to 40-60g http://www.wowhead.com/?item=4320

CLOTH, CLOTH, CLOTH!

Buy cloth, cloth is very valuable because it can be cheap, but the next day jump a load. The same as mining ores.
Always buy linen if it is 20s or lower a stack.
Always buy runecloth if it is 2g or less a stack.
Always buy mageweave if it is 1g or less a stack.
Always buy silk cloth it it is 50s-1g or less a stack.
Always buy Wool cloth if it is 50s or less a stack.

*NOTE*, if you notice shadow silk or thick spiders silk for less than 20s a piece, buy it, will help in making items.

Now you should be on your way with making money using tailoring. One more thing. If you wish to make more money, take the mining profession as your second and follow this mining guide: Mining 1-450

Good luck Tailoring your gold.

Tailoring 1 - 375

Step 1: Buy all the following items at AH/VENDOR/ Note: Everything marked with (*) can be bought from the trainer! So don't stress buying them now.

**WARNING**
You will need a lot of bag space for this, so i suggest you by all the materials and mail them to an alt, if you don't have one, make one and park it next to a post box, send all the materials, then just hit reply on your alt and all your materials will be in your post box ready to be picked up when needed.

**WARNING(number 2)**
The below list is a bare minimum, with you getting a skill point on pretty much every item crafted, even when yellow and not orange, so you can expect to have to buy a lot more mats then are listed below.

Step 2: Have a teleport to Shattrath(Ask a mage). Go to one of the inns and set your Heartstone. Now we are heading to Sanctum of the Sun in Shadowmoon Valley. If you don't have the FP you need to get running!

Leave Shattrath from one of its Eastern exits and start to follow the road east. If you haven't already got the Stonebreaker Hold (horde) or the Allerian Stronghold(Alliance) FP's, take the south fork in the road when at Tuurem and pick them up, if you have or are not interested, just keep following the road east, when the road forks again, take the southern fork, and continue into SMV.

Again if you want the FP's here, take the first road north you find for Shadowmoon Village(Horde) or take the first road south you find for Wildhammer Stronghold(Alliance).

Carry on along the road and you will eventually find the Sanctum of the Sun, just south of the road. Buy Imbued Netherweave Tunic (or robe) pattern from Arrond.

Use your hs to get to Shattrath again. If you have the flight path to Honor Hold/Thrallmar use it now. If not mount back up, leave Shattrath east and start following the road again, this time at the first fork, take the northern route into Hellfire, you will find the road disappears though, so just follow the map below. The blue routes are the optional horde FP's. I highly recommend getting the Falcon Watch FP though as it is the connecting FP between Shattrath and Thrallmar.

Step 3: Once you arrive find the Tailoring trainer (in the in for Horde) and start following the below guide!
Quote:

1 - 50: Bolt of Linen Cloth

50 - 70: Linen Bag

70 - 75: Reinforced Linen Cape

75 - 105: Bolt of Woolen Cloth

105 - 110: Gray Woolen Shirt

110 - 125: Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders

125 - 145: Bolt of Silk Cloth

145 - 160: Azure Silk Hood

160 - 170: Silk Headband

170 - 175: Formal White Shirt

175 - 185: Bolt of Mageweave

185 - 205: Crimson Silk Vest

205 - 215: Crimson Silk Pantaloons

215 - 220: Black Mageweave Leggings/Black Mageweave Vest

220 - 230: Black Mageweave Gloves

230 - 250: Black Mageweave Headband/Black Mageweave Shoulders

250 - 260: Bolt of Runecloth

260 - 275: Runecloth Belt

275 - 300: Runecloth Gloves

--275 - 300--Alternative: Brightcloth Cloak

300 - 325: Bolt of Netherweave

Step 4: -Time to go to Shattrah, Lower City. Camp yourself outside Eiin and buy all of his recipes. You'll need to stay here until 375 because of the Mana Loom right next to him-
325 - 340: Bolt of Imbued Netherweave

340 - 350: Netherweave Boots

--350 - 375--Alternative: Bolt of Frostweave(goes grey at 375 but sinse you will need hundreds of them later, may as well make them while they give you skill points!)

350 - 360: Netherweave Tunic

360 - 375: Imbued Netherweave Tunic

Step 5: Pick up one of the 3 Tailoring specialization quests and go complete it, there rather easy but check the rewards of each specialization before you complete a quest!

That's it so far, ill try and add some farming spots if people want, as depending on your cash it might be easier / cheaper to farm, although with the amount of gold you can now make in the latest expansion, it might be more profitable (in a gold / hour) to just farm something else to sell and buy the mats needed!
p.s. Massive thanks to whoever originally posted this list, i take no credit for that, i simply updated it a bit =)

Tailoring 375-450

Original Guide by: GrandPriest

Introduction:

Note that this is the fastest way to get to 450 - you can craft the optional items to sell or to use, but you’ll need more types of materials and it’ll cost a lot more and/or take longer

Special Perks for Tailors:
Tailors get unique cloak enchants (healer - Darkglow Embroidery, caster - Lightweave Embroidery, melee - Swordguard Embroidery) as well as an easy to craft Spellthread to use on their pants
-=Note=- it is not any better then the one they can craft for other players, however the materials are drastically cheaper
Finally tailors get to craft a magic carpet to ride on!(e.g. Swift Ebonweave Carpet)
Tailors also get a new ability learned from a world drop book - A Guide to Northern Cloth Scavenging - which increases the cloth drop rates of all Northrend Humonoids they kill!

For those saving TBC materials
You can still make rare/epic TBC tailoring items up to 395 (just about every pattern that crafts a rare/epic item that you learned at 375 will turn green at 390 and gray at 395) however this guide will focus on the cheapest materials to get to 450 - which in all cases points to new Northrend green tailoring items. If you still want to stock up on materials to level with TBC mats your best bet is to craft a ton of Golden Spellthread/Runic Spellthread as they are currently the cheapest high level items as well as still being somewhat useful in WOTLK.

The Guide:

Note every pattern listed is purchasable from the trainer or a vendor unless otherwise noted

Materials Required:
390 Bolt of Imbued Frostweave
275 Bolt of Frostweave
175 Eternium Thread

Doesn’t sound like much? Lets break it down further:

7225 Frostweave Cloth
780 Infinite Dust
175 Eternium Thread

350-375:
Bolt of Frostweave (5x Frostweave Cloth) x 1445
Not at 375 yet? No worries! You can make Bolt of Frostweaves until you are!

375-380:
Frostwoven Robe (4x Bolt of Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5

375-425:
You can craft basically the entire Frostwoven and Duskweave set - which is worth it if you plan on using it. Otherwise this just goes over the cheapest items in these 2 sets to skill up with.

380-390:
Frostwoven Leggings (5x Bolt of Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x10

390-395:
Frostwoven Boots (4x Bolt of Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5

395-400:
Frostwoven Leggings (5x Bolt of Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5

400-405:
Bolt of Imbued Frostweave (3x Bolt of Frostweave, 2x Infinite Dust) x5
Craft as may of these as you can until it turns grey at 405, you’ll need it to level from 425-450. If you plan on leveling only to 440 you’ll need 90 of these. If you plan on leveling to 450 you need about 300 more LOL GOOD LUCK.

405-415:
Duskweave Wristwraps (8x Bolt of Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5

415-420:
Duskweave Gloves (9x Bolt of Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5

420-425:
Duskweave Shoulders (10x Bolt of Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5

425-430:
Frostweave Bag (6x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 2x Eternium Thread) x5

Depending on if you have any Iceweb Spider Silk, Black Duskweave Wristwraps are the cheapest way to level to 430 - I included the Black Duskweave Leggings as they are a good pair of rare leggings that cost 1 extra Bolt of Imbued Frostweave.

Black Duskweave Wristwraps (4x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 2x Iceweb Spider Silk, 2x Eternium Thread) x5

Black Duskweave Leggings (5x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 2x Iceweb Spider Silk, 2x Eternium Thread) x5

430-440:
Frostweave Bag (6x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 2x Eternium Thread) x10
Cheapest thing you can make at this point and at least you can auction them to get some gold back.

440-445:
Now this gets retardedly hard. There are a handful of patterns that stay yellow to 445 but the cheapest way to go is to just make 25x Frostweave Bags and pray that you get lucky. No seriously. The other option is to craft the 3 rare bags - however Ebonweave, Spellweave, and Moonshroud all have a 4 day cooldown (similar to the cloths in TBC) and the patterns all require reputation to buy.

Frostweave Bag (6x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 2x Eternium Thread) x25

Optional : Abyssal Bag (4x Ebonweave, 2x Spellweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5 -
Pattern Obtained through Knights of the Ebon Blade Revered Reputation

Optional : Mysterious Bag (4x Spellweave, 2x Moonshroud, 1x Eternium Thread) x5 - Pattern Obtained through The Wyrmrest Accord Revered Reputation

Optional : Glacial Bag (4x Moonshroud, 4x Ebonweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5 - Pattern Obtained through The Son of Hodir Exalted Reputation

445-450:
You can also make the tailoring epic gloves now as well so might as well craft 1 to help level. Past that the cheapest way is still Frostweave Bag followed by the 2 rare bags. (Abyssal Bags turn green at 445 so is not on this list)

Frostweave Bag (6x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 2x Eternium Thread) x25

Optional : Ebonweave Gloves (4x Ebonweave, 4x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread, 1x Frozen Orb) x5

Optional : Moonshroud Gloves (4x Moonshroud, 4x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread, 1x Frozen Orb) x5

Optional : Spellweave Gloves (4x Spellweave, 4x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 1x Eternium Thread, 1x Frozen Orb) x5

Optional : Mysterious Bag (4x Spellweave, 2x Moonshroud, 1x Eternium Thread) x5

Optional : Glacial Bag (4x Moonshroud, 4x Ebonweave, 1x Eternium Thread) x5
