General Guides

Guides about money making, outdoor raid encounters, pvp, talent specs and general aspects of the game.

Jame's Guide Writing Guide

Many guides get submited on wow-pro everyday, but very few are actually good enough to be published. Here are a few guidelines you should follow before you write a guide, I've tried to keep it as short as possible.

1. Choose the topic of your guide carefully, ask yourself these questions:

a) Do I have superior knowledge about this topic?

For example, do you think it's a good idea to write a mage guide if you've only played a mage up to level 42 or something?

b) Will my information be helpful to other players?

Don't state the obvious. For example, don't make a 5-liner guide stating "If you want to make gold, go kill mobs and sell what you find. Try to sell things at the AH at the highest possible price". Seriously, who needs such a guide? Sticking out tongue
In short, try to write a guide about something most people don't already know.

2. Once you've chosen the topic of your guide, don't start writing yet, check the following things first:

a) Did someone already write a guide on this topic? If the answer is no, go to the next paragraph.
b) If someone already wrote a guide on this topic, ask yourself this question:

  1. Will my guide be better than this one? Significantly better? If yes, then go to the next paragraph
  2. If not, then go back to paragraph 1. and choose a different topic for your guide

3. Create your guide, put it in the right category and start working on it:

You don't have to write and publish your guide in one day, nobody actually cares for an unfinished guide. So if your guide is not finished, don't publish it, choose the "Draft" option before you submit it.

Only you will be able to see your guide then, until you decide to publish it. Your draft will be easily accessible on the right side of the page. This is how it looks for me:

As you can see, I have a lot of projects going on at the same time and I'm not publishing any of them until they are finished.

Once you're done writing your guide, there are still things you should do to make it worth being published. Please read on.

4. Spell Checking

Run your whole guide through a spell checker. It's easy, just copy the whole text into a word document or in your e-mail program and use the "Check Spelling" option, correct everything and then put the corrected text back in your guide.

==Note== Please do an effort with this. Use proper capitalization, spell the words entirely, nobody likes to read guides full of "ur" "u" "kthx", etc. It doesn't take that much time to write "you", "your" or "you're", and your guide will be of much higher quality if you do this effort.

5. Text formatting

This is the most important part. Nobody likes to read a big wall of text. You need to add paragraphs, colors, titles, bold text, italic.

For that, you need to use BBcode. It's actually very easy and quick, thanks to a nice little tool I use. It's a Firefox addon called "Text Formating Toolbar". Here is the link to download it:

Text Formating Toolbar

If this version doesn't work, you can try the older version (the one I currently use):

Text Formating Toolbar Version 0.1.4.6

If you don't have Firefox, I suggest you download it and install it anyway. It's free and it's better than Internet Explorer. You can still use Internet Explorer anyway, even after you install Firefox. Just type "Firefox" in Google, it will be the first search result.

Once you have installed it, you'll have the following toolbar on top of your browser:

As you can see, I'm using it right now as I'm writing this guide. It's extremely easy to use, just like a normal text editing program, you just have to select the text you want to format and then click on the icon.

Now tell me, would you rather have this version of my guide:

Or the one you're currently reading?

I think the answer is clear and it shows how much of an improvement a little bit of text formatting can bring to a guide.

6. Images

Images are also a nice addition to any guide. Of course, you must not add images for the sake of adding images. They must have a purpose, they must illustrate your content and if possible, make it easier to understand your guide.

Simply go to "File Attachments" and attach the image of your choice:

Once the image is uploaded, copy the link to it:

Then paste the link in your guide, add the following BBCode tags around it:

  1. [ img ] your.link.here [ / img ] (without the spaces of course)

You can also add the img tag with one click thanks to the text formatting toolbar:

And there you go.

==Note== Images must be saved in .JPEG format before you upload them on wow-pro and they must not be too big. The max width of an image should not exceed 600 pixels and if possible, you should try to keep them below 400 pixels. Try to keep the images as small as possible. Images that are too big take a long time to load, take too much space and actually make your guide harder to follow.

7. Seperate your guide into parts

It's quite easy, simply enter the following code and it will add an horizontal ruler. It's great to split your guide into different parts. Here's the code:

  1. [ hr ] (without the spaces)

And that's it!

Once you feel that your guide is ready to be published, change the Guide Status to "Finished" or "Work in Progress" and then tick the "Published" and "Promoted to Front Page" boxes at the bottom of the page.

I've covered this topic in details in one of my blog articles as well, I encourage you to read it if you want to know why it is important to follow these guidelines.

If you have any other questions or suggestions regarding guide writing, please read our FAQ. If you don't find an answer there, please leave a comment here.

Attunements and Keys

Guides on how to obtain keys and attunements for certain areas of the game such as Onyxia's Lair or Naxxramas.

Blackwing Lair Attunement

Step 1:

First, find yourself a group to UBRS that will do the whole place. Travel to Blackrock Mountain and run up along the chain that leads to BRD and jump down there, turn right and run towards some kind of place, jump on to it and your just outside the entrance to BRS. Get some guy who can help you kill the Scarshield Quartermaster. Start killing the mobs to the right and fight them until you reach the Scarshield Quartermaster, kill him and loot the letter he drops. Rightclick the letter and start the quest, Blackhand's Command.

Step 2:

Now go along with your group until you reach General Drakkisath, kill him and then touch the orb behind him.

Gratz, now you can raid Blackwing Lair!

To enter Blackwing Lair just go and kill that Scarshield Quartermaster again and touch the orb that he is guarding, that will teleport you into Blackwing Lair.

Happy hunting!

Deea's Karazhan Attunement Guide

Author's Notes

This is a step-by-step guide on how to obtain The Master's Key, which is needed to gain access to Karazhan, a 10-man Raid Instance in Deadwind Pass. My guide also covers pre-questing and attunements for all dungeons needed to complete the Karazhan attunement questline. It does not, however, cover Karazhan tactics and raid content, it is just a tool to prepare you for this instance.

I strongly advise you to have a coordinates add-on installed, as I will use coordinates throughout the guide.

I will be using the following color code: quests, NPCs, locations and quest items.

This is also my first guide, so please leave as much feedback as possible.

The Guide

Pre-questing

1. Travel to the Deadwind Pass and find Archmage Alrturus standing just outside the entrance to the instance (47,75). Get the quests Arcane Disturbances and Restless Activity.

2. At (48,78) go down one of the two entrances leading down into an underground cave. Clear your way to the pond and use the Violet Scrying Crystal next to the water. Go back up and this time go down the other entrance, the one leading down into a cellar. Clear the way to the well and use the Violet Scrying Crystal next to it. By now you should be done gathering Ghostly Essences for the other quest as well. If not, kill some more ghosts. When done with both quests return to Archmage Alrturus and turn in the two quests. Get the follow-up Contact from Dalaran.

3. Travel to the Alterac Mountains. Go to Archmage Cedric, who can be found on the outskirts of Dalaran (15,54). Turn in Contact from Dalaran and get the follow-up Khadgar.

4. Go to Khadgar in Shattrath City (54,44). Turn in Khadgar and get the follow-up Entry into Karazhan.

We are done with the pre-questing, now it's instance time!

Instances

1. If you are attuned for The Shadow Labyrinth (or if you know you will group up with someone who can open this instance), skip this step. Get a group together and go to the Sethekk Halls in Auchindoun, Terokkar Forest. Kill the boss Talon King Ikiss and loot the Shadow Labyrinth Key.

2. Next we are going to get the First Key Fragment of the Karazhan key. Get a group together and go do the Shadow Labyrinth instance in Auchindoun, Terokkar Forest. At the end of the instance, in the room where you killed the last boss (Murmur) look for an Arcane Container, which looks like this. Make sure your group is ready, because when you open the container an elite First Fragment Guardian will spawn (looks like an elemental). Kill it and loot the First Key Fragment

3. Return to Khadgar in Shattrath City, turn in Entry into Karazhan and get the follow up The Second and Third Fragments.

4. Now we are going to obtain the Second Key Fragment. Get a group together and go to The Steamvault instance of the Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh. You don't have to do the whole instance, as the Arcane Container is located in the pool of water to the right of the first boss (Hydromancer Thespia). Same thing - open the container, kill the Second Fragment Guardian and loot the Second Key Fragment.

The next part will be completed inside The Arcatraz. To access it you need a flying mount and the Key to the Arcatraz, which is obtained by completing a quest chain in Netherstorm. However, only one person in your group must have the key and the whole party can enter the instance. Additionally, a rogue with maxed out Lockpicking skill can open the entrance. If one of your party members has the key or can lockpick, then skip the following step and go directly to step 6.

5. Attunement for The Arcatraz

  1. Travel to Netherstorm and go find Nether-Stalker Khay'ji (32,64). Get the quest Consortium Crystal Collection from him.

  2. Go to (42,72), kill Pentatharon and loot the Arklon Crystal Artifact. Go back to Nether-Stalker Khay'ji, turn in Consortium Crystal Collection and get the follow-up A Heap of Ethereals.

  3. At (30,74) kill Ethereals until you have 10 Zaxxis Insignias. Go back to Nether-Stalker Khay'ji, turn in A Heap of Ethereals and get the follow-up Warp-Raider Nesaad.

  4. Kill Warp-Raider Nesaad (28,79), he can be soloed. Go back to Nether-Stalker Khay'ji, turn in Warp-Raider Nesaad and get the follow-up Request for Assistance.

  5. Go talk to Gahruj (47,57), turn in Request for Assistance and get the follow-up Rightful Repossession.

  6. Collect 10 Boxes of Surveying Equipment, which can be found at Manaforge Duro (56,64). Go back to Gahruj, turn in Rightful Repossession and get the follow-up An Audience with the Prince.

  7. Find the Image of Nexus-Prince Haramad in the Stormspire (46,36). Turn in An Audience with the Prince and get the follow-up Triangulation Point One.

  8. Go to (67,34) and right-click the Triangulation Device from your inventory. Follow the red arrow until you see something looking like a Hunter's Mark pointing towards the ground. Stand on that spot and you should get the (quest complete) message.

  9. Go find Dealer Hazzin, located at (58,31). Turn in Triangulation Point One and get the follow up Triangulation Point Two.

  10. Again, use the Triangulation Device, this time at (28,41). Find the arrow that looks like the Hunter's Mark and stand beneath it so you get the (quest complete) message.

  11. Go to Wind Trader Tuluman (34,37), turn in Triangulation Point Two and get the follow up Full Triangle.

  12. The next step is a bit harder, but certain classes might be able to solo it. If you want to try your luck solo, go to (53,20), where you will find Culuthas. Kill him and loot the Ata'mal Crystal from him. If you don't manage to solo him, better find a group for this part.

  13. Go to the Image of Nexus-Prince Haramad inside The Stormspire (46,36). Turn in Full Triangle and get the follow up Special Delivery to Shattrath City.

  14. Travel to Shattrath City and talk to A'dal (54,44). Turn in Special Delivery to Shattrath City and get the follow up How to Break Into the Arcatraz.

  15. Time to do some instances! Get a group together and go do The Mechanar in Tempest Keep, Netherstorm. The Top Shard of the Arcatraz Key is looted from Pathaleon the Calculator. He is the last boss, so you will have to go through the whole instance. Also, a flying mount is required to reach this instance.

  16. For the Bottom Shard of the Arcatraz Key you must get a group together and go do The Botanica in Tempest Keep, Netherstorm. Again, do the whole instance, as the shard is looted from the last boss Warp Splinter. This instance also requires a flying mount to access.

  17. Once you have both key shards, return to A'dal in Shattrath (54,44) and turn in How to Break Into the Arcatraz to get the Key to the Arcatraz

6. Now get a group together for The Arcatraz in Tempest Keep, Netherstorm. The Arcane Container is found after the boss Zereketh the Unbound. You don't have to kill him, just pass by him and go up the ramp. Pass the corridor and then in a room full of voidwalkers you have the container to the right as you enter the room. Open it, kill the Third Fragment Guardian that spawns and loot the Third Key Fragment. You don't have to finish the rest of the instance.

7. Return to Khadgar in Shattrath City (54,44), turn in The Second and Third Fragments and get the follow up The Master's Touch.

For the next part, you will need to be attuned for The Black Morass, so if you already are attuned skip the following step and go directly to step 9.

8. Attunement for The Black Morass
If you are attuned to The Old Hillsbrad, skip directly to point 4.

  1. To enter Black Morass you must first complete the Old Hillsbrad Foothills dungeon in the Caverns of Time. First, go to the Caverns of Time in Tanaris and find the Steward of Time (58,54). Dismount and get the quest To The Master's Lair (you must be dismounted or you will get an error message and will have to abandon the quest and get it again).

  2. You will be taken to Andormu, turn To The Master's Lair and get the follow-up The Caverns of Time.

  3. Follow the Custodian of Time around until you get the (quest complete) message. Go back to Andormu, turn in the quest and get the follow-up Old Hillsbrad.

  4. Time to do the Old Hillsbrad instance! Get a group together and go inside the instance, which is located in the Caverns of Time, Tanaris. Find Erozion at the end of the tunnel. Turn in Old Hillsbrad and get the follow up Taretha's Diversion.

  5. Talk to the dragon next to you and ask him to take you to Durnholde Keep. After landing, clear your way to the lodges and use the Pack of Incendiary Bombs from your inventory on the barrels in each of the lodges.

  6. Clear the way to the prison to speak to Thrall, turn in Taretha's Diversion and get the follow up Escape from Durnholde. This is an escort quest, and unlike other escort quests, this one will not prompt a dialog to all other party members to accept the quest. Instead, each party member has to accept the quest, then one of you must talk to Thrall again and confirm that the group is ready. If one party member doesn't take the quest, you will have to redo the instance.

  7. Escort Thrall to Taretha, found inside the inn in Tarren Mill (the one inside the instance, of course). Once you reach her, the Epoch Hunter will spawn ouside the inn. Help Thrall kill him. WARNING: Don't let Thrall die, or the quest will fail!

  8. Go back to Erozion at the entrance of the instance. Turn in Escape from Durnholde and get the follow up Return to Andormu.

  9. Exit the instance and go to Andormu in the Caverns of Time (58,54). Turn in Return to Andormu and get the follow-up The Black Morass. You are now attuned for The Black Morass.

9. Finally, form a group to go through The Black Morass in the Caverns of Time, Tanaris. Make sure your entire group has done the Black Morass attunement first. Turn in The Black Morass to Sa'at inside the instance and get the follow-up The Opening of the Dark Portal.

10. Complete opening the Dark Portal to be able to talk to Medivh in the instance, turn in The Master's Touch and get the follow up Return to Khadgar. And while you're here, go back to Sa'at, turn in The Opening of the Dark Portal and get the follow-up Hero of the Brood, if you haven't done this already (Hero of the Brood is turned in at Andormu outside the instance).

11. Travel back to Shattrath City. Turn in Return to Khadgar at Khadgar and you will receive The Master's Key.

Congratulations, you are now attunned to Karazhan!

You can take the quest The Violet Eye from Khadgar to continue the Karazhan quest line, but we won't be doing it in the guide.

Gnomeregan - Horde

Well...going to Gnomeregan is really not so hard, but you need to know how, if you don't want to run your way to Ironforge.
If you want a easier way, follow theese instructions:
1)_go to Orgrimmar
2)_find a guard and ask for the engeniering trainer
3)_talk to the engeniering supplier Sovik and get [35] Chief Engineer Scooty
4)_fly to Ratchet and take a boat to Booty Bay
5)_speak to Scooty
6)_wait few moments to get attuned and then go into the teleport machine you see in front of you

This is very usefull at any level, if you want to travel fast to ironforge.
I'm thinking over all to druids and rogues, that can even go into ironforge and reach the hearth of Stormwind throught the subway that connects the two cities.

Molten Core Attunement

Introcution:
When your guild starts doing MC, noone will want to go through BRD. The only way to avoid the long journey is to do the quest [60]Attunement to the Core. You get it from a blood elf near the entrance to BRD. After you get on the platform after the second chain you just can't miss him. You can get the quest only if you're lvl 55+. When you take it, don't leave. Turn around the place where he is and you'll see an orange crystal. You're going to teleport to MC after you finish the attunement. Now, let's get inside.

Inside:
When you get inside there's nothing special to do. Follow Jame's guide(click here) untll you get outside the room with the seven dwarves. You'll see a bridge with 6 elementals on it.Kill them and continue. You'll be in a room with an orange crystal on the floor. Take it and either continue with BRD or go back to the elf.

Grats, now your guildmates have someone to ask for the quest. Smiling))

Naxxramas Attunement

You get attuned by turning in certain items to an NPC at Light's Hope Chapel. You need to be at least honored with Argent Dawn. This isn't hard as you get reputation from killing non-elite undeads throughout the farms in Eastern Plaguelands until you are 5999/6000 friendly. These mobs vary between low 50 mobs to around 58. In addition you got repeatable quests in the form of scourgestone turn-ins and the cauldron quests. See this guide at wowwiki for more info. You'll get all you need for these repeatables as you grind skellies, so honored is piece of cake.

Now when you're honored and plan to do alot of Stratholme/Scholomance or want to grind more rep, wait with your attunement. At honored it is still quite expensive. See the beforementioned guide for how to grind rep after you're honored.

The following items are required, depending on your rep

Honored: 2xNexus Crystal 5xArcane Crystal 1xRighteous Orb 60 gold

Revered: 1xNexus Crystal 2xArcane Crystal 30 gold

Exalted: Free!

As you see, getting attuned at honored will cost you hundreds of gold (unless you are a BS/Enchanter or have some very nice friends), and it's still quite costly at revered. However getting exalted take days of rep grinding. It's up to you to decide how much time or gold you want to invest into your attunement. Good luck:-)

Onyxia Key (Alliance)

To get your key to Onyxia, you must go to Morgan's Vigil in the Burning Steppes. That is where the chain starts.

Step 1:

  1. Quest name: Dragonkin Menace
  2. Start: Helendis Riverhorn
  3. Location: Burning Steppes
  4. Level: 54 elite
  5. Notes: The NPC asks you to kill a number of different types of dragons in Burning Steppes. If you do this at level 54, I would advise taking more than two people. Some of the dragons have rather high HP and do a pretty decent amount of damage.

Step 2:

  1. Quest Name: The True Masters
  2. Start: Helendis Riverhorn
  3. Location: Burning Steppes
  4. Level: 54
  5. Notes: The NPC asks you to deliver a letter to Magistrate Solomon in Lakeshire.

Step 3:

  1. Quest Name: The True Masters
  2. Start: Magistrate Soloman
  3. Location: Lakeshire Town Hall
  4. Level: 54
  5. Notes: You are asked to deliver another letter to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in Stormwind Keep.

Step 4:

  1. Quest Name: The True Masters
  2. Start: Highlord Bolvar Fordragon
  3. Location: Stormwind Keep
  4. Level: 54
  5. Notes: You are asked to take another letter back to Magistrate Solomon in the Lakeshire Town Hall.

Step 5:

  1. Quest Name: The True Masters
  2. Start: Magistrate Solomon
  3. Location: Lakeshire Town Hall
  4. Level: 54
  5. Notes: Magistrate Solomon tells you to return to Morgan's Vigil in the Burning Steppes and to talk to Marshal Maxwell.

Step 6:

  1. Quest Name: The True Masters
  2. Start: Marshal Maxwell
  3. Location: Burning Steppes
  4. Level: 54
  5. Notes: Marshal Maxwell tells you to find and speak to someone named Ragged John in the Burning Steppes. He is located almost directly North of Morgan's Vigil near a cave at the top of the map.

Step 7:

  1. Quest Name: Marshal Windsor
  2. Start: Ragged John
  3. Location: Cave in Burning Steppes
  4. Level: 54 elite
  5. Notes: This is where things start to get harder. You can start this at level 54, but I would not advise it until closer to level 60. Take a full group. You will be heading into Blackrock Depths for this. Marshal Windsor is located in one of the cells towards the right side of the entrance to the instance.

Step 8:

  1. Quest Name: Abandoned Hope
  2. Start: Marshal Windsor
  3. Location: Blackrock Depths
  4. Level: 54 elite
  5. Notes: Again, take a full group of five. The more level 60's you have the easier this will be. Once you talk to Marshal Windsor, he tells you to leave him and talk to Marshal Maxwell again. So it's back to the Burning Steppes for you.

Step 9:

  1. Quest Name: A Crumpled Up Note
  2. Start: Crumpled Up Note
  3. Location: Blackrock Depths
  4. Level: 54 elite
  5. Notes: After you talk to Marshal Maxwell, the chain seems to end. You must go back to Blackrock Depths and kill enemies until one of them drops the crumpled note. It is a random drop, but luckily does not seem to take long to get. When you do find it, you must take it to Marshal Windsor, who is still sitting in his jail cell in Blackrock Depths.

Step 10:

  1. Quest Name: A Shred of Hope
  2. Start: Marshal Windsor
  3. Location: Blackrock Depths
  4. Level: 58 elite
  5. Notes: Marshal Windsor asks you to find his lost information. There are two pieces, they are dropped by General Angerforge and Golem Lord Argelmach.

Step 11:

  1. Quest Name: Jail Break!
  2. Start: Marshal Windsor
  3. Location: Blackrock Depths
  4. Level: 58 elite
  5. Notes: This is the infamous escort quest that you have probably heard about at some point in guild chat or in your travels. This quest is actually extremely easy to do, provided you take the right precautions. Before ANYONE accepts the Jail Break! quest from Marshal Windsor, you must clear the path that he will be walking to retrieve his gear. There are two main areas you must clear, the first being the ring in which his cell is located, the other being the Ring of the Law. Make sure you clear out the cells along the way as well. Even if you clear out the path, there will still be enemies that spawn to attack you. Make sure your tanks are on their toes, you don't want Marshal Windsor dying and he is a pretty weak guy at this point in time. And no you cannot heal him during the fights, he will refill by himself after each one is over. After you are done, go back to
Morgan's Vigil in the Burning Steppes and talk to Marshal Maxwell.

Step 12:

  1. Quest Name: Stormwind Rendezvous (Raid)
  2. Start: Marshal Maxwell
  3. Location: Burning Steppes
  4. Level: 63 elite
  5. Notes: Head to the gates of Stormwind. You may have to wait a few seconds for Marshal Windsor to spawn at the gates, once he does, talk to him to continue the quest chain.

Step 13:

  1. Quest Name: The Great Masquerade (raid)
  2. Start: Marshal Windsor
  3. Location: Stormwind gates
  4. Level: 63 elite
  5. Notes: You will now have to follow Marshal Windsor through Stormwind, talk to him to start the quest. He will stop to talk to General Marcus Johnathan, just let him yap and eventually you will be told to follow him to the keep. When you get to the gates of the keep, he will stop and tell you to give him the signal when you are ready. Just click him again and you will have to follow him into the keep. When you get to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon, you listen to some arguement and then Lady Onyxia will spawn. At this point, if you are melee get the hell out of the way and DO NOT try and help Bolvar. He will be fighting a bunch of level 62 elites. When I did it, a crit of 1300 damage didn't even budge one of their HP bars. Bolvar will be taking them down, you can do this with just one ranged class helping.

Step 14:

  1. Quest Name: The Dragons Eye
  2. Start: Highlord Bolvar Fordragon
  3. Location: Stormwind Keep
  4. Level: 63 elite
  5. Notes: Bolvar will give you a medallion, take it to Winterspring. You must find an NPC named Haleh. He is in a cave to the south/middle of the Winterspring map. The cave is full of elite drgaons and dragonkin. So either take a group, or get naked and start corpse running. At the back of the cave is a blue glowy thing on the ground. Step on it to get teleported to Haleh.

Step 15:

  1. Quest Name: Drakefire Amulet
  2. Start: Haleh
  3. Location: Winterspring
  4. Level: 63 elite
  5. Notes: Haleh tells you to retreive the Blood of the Black Dragon champion from General Drakkisath. This means you have to go to Upper Blackrock Spire. This will take a raid group of 10-15 people. General Drakkistah only drops a few blood each time. Return to Haleh and he will give you your key to Onyxia. Congratulations! Now you can join other players in attempting to kill her!

Onyxia Key (Horde)

This might not be of any use, but I see it as a try for me to write and practise Sticking out tongue

Step 1:

First you have to travel to Kargath in Badlands and go to a tower not long away from where you landed if you flew. In this tower there is a guy called Warlord Goretooth. Talk to him and go trough his conversation you will then receive a letter. Warlord Goretooth's Command. (I think it was a letter) Right-click on the letter and you will receive a quest, Warlord's Command.

Step 2:

In this quest you have to travel to Lower Blackrock Spire. As Jame has written a wonderful guide to this place, why not use it? http://www.wow-pro.com/node/593
When you have completed Warlord's Command you will receive the quest, Eitrigg's Wisdom.

Step 3:

Travel to Orgrimmar and go to Thrall's Chamber and talk to his adviser, Eitrigg (a speech bubble) and then complete the quest at Thrall, he will give you the quest, For the Horde!.

Now you have to travel to Upper Blackrock Spire and kill Warchief Rend Blackhand. Just jump on to a normal UBRS raid, as Rend is not able to bypass. When you complete the quest, everyone in Orgrimmar will receive a buff.

Step 4:

Thrall asks you to seek out Rexxar who roams from north Feralas, through Desolace, and into southern Stonetalon Mountains. Rexxar will give you the quest, The Testament of Rexxar.

Now you have to deliver Rexxar's Testament to Myranda the Hag in Western Plaguelands. Myranda the Hag is located near Uther's tomb, south of Andorhal, standing on a tree stump. She will give you the quest, Oculus Illusions.

Step 5:

Once again you have to go to UBRS and get some Black Dragonspawn Eyes from the dragnkins inside. They drop 1-2 at a time and are common. It should be enough with one run Sticking out tongue When you turn in the quest you will get an Amulet of Draconic Subversion and the quest, Emberstrife.

Step 6:

Travel to Emberstrife's Den in Dustwallow Marsh, it´s the cave at the cliff to the very south. The Amulet of Draconic Subversion will transform you into a Black Scalebane once inside Emberstrife's Den. While disguised, speak to Emberstrife. He will behave as an NPC. He will give you three quests called The Test of Skulls, Skryer/Somnus/Chronalis.

  1. Go to Winterspring with a group of five people and enter the caves of Maztoril, south of Everlook, work your way in and kill Scryer.

Updated 6th March 08

P.S As a side note I have just bought the Guildhelper guide, and I highly recommend it to those who wish to create/improve their guild. The whole guide has been structured so that it can be used for pretty much any MMO, so its a good investment for those who intend to keep playing online games.

Guild & Raid Guides

Guides on how to generally organise Guilds and Raiding.

Eragon's Guild Guide

What Are Guilds

A guild is a group of players that quest together, run dungeon, raid, and help each other out. In this guide I will tell you about guilds, how to form them, and how to manage them. It will take time to form your guild and you will run into quite a few problems. This guide will give you helpful tips for your guild.

Guild Naming

The name is the most imporant part of the guild. It is what attracts players the most. People want a cool name that they have to run around all the time right under thier name. Be cool with you guild names! Get creative! If you're having trouble naming let me give you some possible names: The Sniper Council, The Warrior League, Darkness, Wolf Brotherhood, We Don't Wipe, Kamoflogue. Names that will be cool.

Your Guild Charter

The guild charter is the hardest part in any guilds life. It consists of going around asking random people to sign your charter. 60% or the time they will decline the charter. To get people to sign your charter spam up the trade chanel a little, forget to "Guild Recruitment" channel it's useless. There's two types of spammessages the ones people read and the ones people do not. One some one would not ready is "Brother Vodo is (signing charter)!!!! We want to-be a big guild soon enough and just hang out n' stuff.........." all the stuff like (), --> <--, ......., etc. doesn't help, it just makes it hard to read, boring, and unattractive. One someone would read is "Ol' Timers wants you! We are a new guild signing charter. We can't wait to get our guild up and running and we already have as site. Whisper for details or to sign." It was intresting, inforative, and easy on the eyes.

New Guild

Okay you just now turned in your charter and your now in you guild. About 5 people are online and your all differnt levels. The first thing you need to do is open guild and click "Guild Contol". Customize teh ranks and what they say. You should have 4 ranks: Member for new people, Veteren for those who have been in for a little while, Officer (try to keep only a few) to manage your guild when your gone and to help enforce to guild rules. Second thing to do is to set the Message Of The Day (MOTD) you should keep it as something like " Welcome to Insane League. We will be running Strath on Friday. Our site is www.Insane_League.net." Finally start a conforsation with everyone. something like hey have you noticed people go to Redridge more than Duskwood? The three thing to make sure is not discussed is: Religion, Sex, and Other Members. That's the fastest way to lose members.

Guild Website

You have started your guild but your making no money off of it and you have no programming knowledge then you have two recommended options: freewebs.com or guildportal.com! I recommend Freewebs. For both all you need is a EMail adress.

Guild Recruitment

Your guild is up and running. You have a steady donation fund, member flow is good, and everyone is helping each other... Well now you need to get even more members! Now you are in the race you are up against some guilds with 300 maybe 400 people. You have to recruit as much as possible. You need to make sure people know everthing about your guild while recruiting. Recruit people you know, people your running dungeons with, or just type a recruit message on the trade channel. One more thing, Guild Recruit channel isn't noone uses it Sticking out tongue.

You're Ready!

Now you are ready to be a successful guild! Get out there, recruit, have some fun, and grow as a guild. I hope you learned alot from this guide thank you for your time.

Pocketblake's Guide to a Better Guild

.

Many people have asked me the following questions:
-How can I make my own guild?
-How can I increase my guild's population?
-How can I organize my current guild to become a better,
stonger community?

Well, Pocket has the answer to all of your guild organization needs.

How can I make my own guild?

Good question. Just simply go to a major city like Stormwind or
Thunder Bluff and talk to a guard. Ask the guard where the guild master
is located. Talk to the person and purchase the charter for 10 silver.
Be prepared to have at least nine people ready to sign your charter.
When that is complete, turn in the charter. Now you are a Guild Master.
Congratz!

Now that I have a guild, how can I increase its population.

Another excelent question. Open your macro window (/macro) and create a new
macro and label it "Guild Ad" and select an icon that can be easily distinguished.
Type in an ad that could tempt the people that you are targeting to join (like
PvPers, RP people, etc.) An example that would not instrest people would be:

"Join my guild, Spartan Forces. We are, like, great and stuff. Join now."

An example that may intrest more people would most likely be:

"Spartan Forces is now recruiting. We have over 300 members, a website,
4 Bank tabs, Ventrillo server, and family friendly chat. We're looking for
healers for ZA. Pst for more info or an invitation."

Try not to spam this macro in trade and general chat too much. Say it a few
times in Guild Recruitment, but no one really listens to that channel.

Now that I've got the right number of people in the guild, how can I improve
the guild as a whole?

Another fine question. All good raiding guilds must be cooperative and focused.
One thing that is VERY IMPORTANT is the fact that you should have things for
everyone to do every day. Ask your guild members what times work best for them
for raids. Listen to everyone and assign good officers to keep everyone
under control. It would be best if the guild master or an officer get a Teamspeak
or Ventrillo voice chat server. The Voice Chat that Blizzard provides could
use a little bit of work, but its fine for guilds that are just starting out.
Also, Omen Threat Meter, Group Calander, and some DKP addon is very important
for every member of a guild to have. Websites are nice to have and can benifit
many guild members who don't have the Group calander addon.

If you find any other information that I have not added, please post a comment below,
because I'm still not finished.

Raid Healing for Starters

I want you to use this post as a guideline, nothing more. If you have any comments or some good tips PLEASE post. The more we help each other the better we will progress.

I am gonna start with some gear, then addons and macros and last but not least how to use all those things together, how to get the most out of those things.

I have been calculating how mp/5 and +healing works and ive come up with different results. I could just post you the numbers but that wouldn’t be very interesting and you might not understand all of it. Therefor i am gonna write what *I* think is best. Many people say that getting mp/5 is better in the beginning. But personally I think that +healing is better, if you know how to use it right.

To see where to get good healing gear check out www.wow-loot.com

Now with full blues from 5-instances you should have around 400-500 +healing.
How do we get full use of all this +healing then?

The whole idea with having a lot of +healing is to be able to drop down the spells a couple of ranks. Now how to find a fitting rank to heal with?
You can try casting different ranks on yourself and see which one is fitting(Tip: a fitting spell should cost low mana, so you can spam it, but also heal a decent amount, around 500-700 is good, for priests flash heal 4 is good and so is healing touch rank 4 for druids)

Now to “How to make a macro step by step”:
First find a fitting rank you wanna use, then cast it on you around 10 times or so and then find the average amount it healed. Let us say that i have casted flash heal rank 4 on myself 10 times, and it healed between 650 and 750, so we say that average is 700.
Now to making the actual macro:

1: open the macro window and press “new”, then find a fitting icon(I myself use the same as the spell, easier to see what spell u are casting). When you have found a fitting icon click it and then name you macro to: “The average it heals”, in this case it is 700.
Now we have an icon and a name for our macro.

2: this step is how to insert the command the macro must do. Blizzard has made a very good option for this.
First we open our spellbook, then we type “/cast” then we find the actual spell we wanna cast. In this case it is Flash heal rank 4, so we “shift-left click” on the spell that we want it to cast(This works just like linking an item in chat)
And automatically it will write Flash Heal(Rank 4).
So our macro should now look like this: /cast Flash Heal(Rank 4) – Now we just move the macro to the hotbars.
Grats, you’ve just learned how to make a macro.

I myself have different ranks of heals. I usually find one fitting that i cast all the time( as flash heal rank 4) then i have the highest rank flash heal, the highest greater heal spell, renew and shield. With only these spells you can pretty much perform miracles.

This is how the macro should look like:

Now that we have fixed that we should be ready for the 2 most important addons:

CT_Raidassist :: http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-3102-1-ct_raidassist-ct_rabossmods-multi-en-fr-de.html

Decursive ::
http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-3995-1-decursive-continued.html

CT_Raidassist has many great options. But the ones you should be focusing on is the ‘Group windows’, ‘Player targets’(aka PT Target), and possibly emergency monitor.

Group windows: The default setting of this is having 8 windows(grp 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,Cool. What you can do is you can make so that rogues are in one group, and warriors in another etc. So in another words you can make the windows be sorted by classes. It is just a matter of personal taste and what YOU find easier.
Place all the group windows close to each other so it is easier to see when someone needs a heal or a decurse/dispel(To be able to see the debuffs you must enable them in the CT_Raidassist options, ask me ingame for more info if you don’t already know)

Player Targets: There is a tab called CT_Raid in the social panel. When u right click on a player you can use the option “Set PT #1, #2 etc”. I find this to be a very very handy option. I usually set ut the maintanks there, so if i always can keep an eye of them if they need help( i will explain more about this later on).

Emergency monitor: With this option you see a window, and in that window you see the people who has least HP(the one with lowest hp is placed on the top). You can click on the people direct on the emergency monitor directly, and just chuck them a heal.

Decursive is also a very very handy addon, which is not very complicated to use.
This addon allows you to see debuffs and decurse/dispel them very quick
To see the decursive window type: “/dcrshow” and you will get a window that looks somewhat like this:
[Decursive][P][S][O][X]

And beneath this window all the debuffs you can decurse/dispel will be shown when someone is debuffed.

Now how to dispel someone, there are 2 ways, i prefer option 1

Option 1: You make macro, that “says”: /decursive
Then you move the macro to a hotbar. TIP: Move it to a key you can access very quick, for example: Q, E, T or F. These are all very fast to press, this is very vital because most guilds wipe because decursing is not good enough etc. You cant go around and think “i will do throw some more spells, someone else will decurse..” ALL MUST DECURSE!

Option 2: In option 2 you can press on the people debuffed on the window beneath the decursive bars and it dispels them. But if the whole raid is debuffed, it is easier to just spam 1 button.

Another great option decursive has is the Priority list. You can access the priority list by pressing [P] on the Dcr bar. Here you choose which targets are going to be decursed first. This variates from fight to fight. More info is going to be giving on the raid.

Now the last thing i am going to explain and tip about. But it is not least important, more the most important. Now that we know a bit about how the different ranks works and how the decursing works it is time to step up to the more advanced stuff. I am gonna go over some points that you should think of when you heal.

1: Healing priority – If you are in grp 1 maintank is your prior. No one says that you cannot crossheal if your tank does not need healing( if he is <80% then don’t crossheal, otherwise you can).
Next, the general priority is: Tanks > Healers > Dps.
Now is the time to use your PT Targets, if you see that healers are struggling on keeping a tank up, then chuck a few heal and help them to get in order again.

2: Shields and Heal over Time spells(HoT) – Some people think that they shouldn’t shield a warrior before the fight because he will get less rage. Shield him please. The mob will most likely hit through
it on the first hit and he wills till gain rage. Think of the shield as an free heal and a help to let the tank get into position.

3: Bandages
– Even though you can heal it is always good to have a few bandages, if you need like 1000hp or so, just use a bandage to save some mana. This is good in long fights.

4: Overhealing – There is no easy way to prevent overhealing. The best way i have found so far is to stay alert all the time. When you start to cast a a heal on someone and he suddenly is full hp, then just press “esc” or “move to a side” or “jump”, what ever suits you best. Also, choose unite frames where you can see the missing hp of the people you are healing. That way you know what heal you should use, and that is when the heal macro becomes useful.

5: Mortal Strike & other healing debuffs -
. When a warrior is debuffed it dosent help much to heal him with flash heals for 500hp.. instead throw a shield on him and start casting a big heal. Some people will cast smaller heals, just to keep him up a bit. But more info will be given later when we raid etc.

Other than that i don’t have any more tips or tricks. Stay alert, have mana pots, dark runes/demonic runes to raids if possible.

Trekloss` Guild-Guide

This guide-type is a type i have searched alot for while my Character was young and impulsive, and something i have accumulated the experience to write later. Guild Management can be done by everyone, but to do it well, you need alot of practice, be good at talking (by letters Eye ) and good organization and leadership skills. This guide is mostly aimed at lvl 60 raid guilds, but will also give some info of running lower lvl guides at some points in the guide too. This guide is mostly geared towards PvE guilds.
Guide is in development, so some changes will be done.

Introduction
Guilds are, as most know, a group of players that share chat, cooperate and help each other out. They are lead by one or more persons (but only the founder can acess certain control options,) and have officers and different ranks.

To found a guild, visit the guild master in a capital City, pay 10 silver and get 7 people to sign your charter. Decide a name and return the charter. You are now a Guild Master! Remember, that to sign up people, you need to be close to them, but after the guild is established, you can recruit players that are far away.

Naming
All guilds need a name! Let it be humoristic or cool. End game guilds tend to use one, cool, epic word as title, and that makes the guild sound serious and hard-core P
Lower lvl, less serious guilds like the funny names as Lobster Pants and Horny Vikings, and as long as its mostly an extra LFG channel, its ok Eye

Recruitment
Recruitment is a basic factor for starting. It should be done at the Capital City Chats, and you should have a proper, tempting ad with good info of you Guild and Plans.

A bad example is "Hey, join my guild, lobster panties, its imba and we do stuff and chill." You may get some unserious, talkative guys that probhably is friendly enough, but not the hardcore, 24-7 players thats needed to get a good End-Game guild.

A GOOD ad will be more like "Ascension is recruiting new members, we need Mages, Warlocks, Healers and some good Hunters. We only take players with those and that gear and talents. We are aiming at doing MC as soon as we reach a reasonable amount of Players, and are already doing regular ZG raids. We have Vent and Guild bank. /w me for more info or invite!

Tell what you require, and what the listener can expect to get. Be open for giving more info, seem friendly and serious. Remeber to have a tabard, oryou wont be taken seriously, and THAT is important. Tabards also give a feeling of being an unit, a community

If you are running and end-game guild, you will need MANY players, aim at atleast 5 of each class, and even more later if needed. You need atleast 60-80 players to do MC. Also check out class composition, as you need a balanced guild to get a balanced raid group.

Ranks
The most discussed topic by guildmembers, as even if theres no difference between Member and Veteran, many players will whine for an eternity to be Veteran, or even Officers. Make Ranks that make sense, and do it by the Guild Control Menu. You need one normal Member Rank, one Veteran-like rank just to allow veterans to brag and be happy, an officer rank and yourself. Many guildmasters is generally a bad idea, mostly used by lower lvl guilds that doesnt need any proper leadership. Class leaders is often a good idea for larger raid guilds, as the guild master wont have experience with and advise to all classes. Let the Class leaders be some kind of Semi-Officers that supervise their classes under your supervison. Dont have many real officers, and only chose serious, skilled veterans you know and trust. Officers are VERY important, and they got to be good. Remember, you dont have to lead the raids or do all the day to day management that way.

Remember, dont give in to the countless asks for promotions from the others, consider them worthy or not without their own opinion. Answer that asking just decreases their own chance for promotions, and they stop soon Eye

The Beginning
Yes, this is one of the hard parts folks, mostly when in a raiding guild at lvl 60. Players seem to be very hard to appease, and some days without action can separate a new guild faster than you can log onto your character. Only after many weeks and many players, a good officer group and a set schedule, you can relax, take some days off and return to the same, happy guild with even better gear than last time.

So the important for raid guilds is to expand fast, get many active members and above all, have a schedule that you can make work!
Theres no use in havin Daily ZG raids if you cant get enough people on more than every second time. The second guild-killer is raids that is cancelled because of too few members. Even one daily Scholo or Strat can keep a new guild together, as long as its sucessfull. UBRS? Even better? Doing both with Vent or TS? You are well on you way.

Just do what can be done to make the members feel like an unit, and make them get used to cooperate. Even how small it is, making them feel the guild can make them active and help them get their gear can do wonders with the spirits and will to make the guild even better.
Helping them get their tier 0 and feel like supermen can make them do a whole lot to help you. Have a plan, and let them give feedback on it.
Have progress, and let the members help with it. Just the messange get the tier 0 gear by joining daily UBRS and look out for FR gear so we can start MC can make your members go wild and fill up the UBRS groups in 5 min, and soon you will be getting on Ragnaros!

But i cant press it enough, have a plan and keep you members active EVERY DAY. Dont care about signing at a website, just say "be online at 1900 and i will invite you"
People are way to lazy to enter a website, unless it is to view their DKP.

DKP
Dkp, or Dragon Kill Points are an very important factor in Raid Guilds.
DKP are given for killing bosses and joining raids. DKP is not of much use in ZG and AQ20, but is required in MC, BWL, AQ40 and Naxxramaxas.

DKP is used to "buy" loot in Raids. This ensures that the ones most active gets most loot. Each item has a price, and the needer with most DKP gets it without having to roll for it. The DKP cost is taken from his total DKP. Always have Master Looting, so that you can take good time deciding.

To get a DKP system, find a site that allows it, they are everywhere, and requires you to make a site. There are alot of premade, customizable sites out there for free, like at guildwizard.com and many others.

Talking - Best way of communicating!
In raids, you GOT TO HAVE a talking server like Ventrilo (the best option) or TeamSpeak (The Free, Second best Option.) Have rules for who`s allowed to talk at raids, and use the channels as Social Channels when not raiding. These are useful at 5-man instances too, and allow complex strategies to be made in a few minutes. Always have one, and always have it in the Recruitment Ad!

Requirements to stay
Yes, you cant let everyone stay. All Raid Guilds need firm rules, as you cant afford inactive players. Demand a good reason and a post in your (reccomended to get) forums or a public note. If not, kick after a week inactivity. Also have rules for raid activity, be aviable once a week or more/less, or get kicked. These are unpleasant but required parts about leading a guild. You need progress, not obstracles.

Guild Banks
No requirement, but an very handy thing anyways. Tends to attract players, as it makes your guild look serious. A guild bank is a lvl 1 character that stands by a bank and has 5 big bags and all the bank slots to store guild items that is given by members. Keep a list over the stuff thats in it at the forums. The Character is usually named GuildBank or so, and is most often an alt of the Guild Master.

The less serious matters too
Now that your guild is established, has 80-100+ members, does MC or better regulary (every day is best) and has good progress, keep the same strict rules, be the authority, but be nice too! Being nice is important in the whole progress, playing James Blunt when taking down Ragnaros is always fun Eye Being nice, humorous AND strict is possble P

Now that you are established
Keep up the progress, still have a plan and keep a schedule with activities every day, even with many daily raids (both 40 and 20 man raids).
Gearing up and giving all members the oppotunity to join raids is important. Members left out off the action, leaves. Require a PvE spec from the members, exept from some DpS warriors and that kind of people Eye

The Lower lvl Guilds
Much of the same stuff, exept the raid parts. Keep a plan for lvling progress, and keep the members lvling fast. Aim at getting a higher lvl guild, 10 lvls per 2 weeks or so can be a goal. In lower lvl guilds, a friendly and closely-knitted community tied with active-instance loving members is all that matters. Keep it up until you all are lvl 60 and can follow the raid part of my guide P

RolePlaying Guilds
Less experience here, but i know that you got to have a purpose, goal and backstory of your guild. Arrange RP-Events and try to have a good time pretending you are a dwarf female Paladin Eye

PvP Guilds
Little experience here too, but planning to found one soon.
Organize regular BG Premades, have a good strategy, talking server and get rank 14 all of you P Lvl is slightly less important here, but keeping a healthy number of lvl 60s is always good. Lvl 50-59s just dont fit in the 60 BG premades, so they should concentrate on lvling for now.

Summary
Starting To get the Active players, you got to get a good ad, seem serious, skilled and look like having a plan for fast progress.
Get many players of different classes.

Running Show that the guild is even better than the ads, keep progress, have a plan, be nice and let your members be a part of it all! Keep good oficers, and have routines every day to keep your members active and progressing.

Useful Ideas and Twists

-Just remove the Veteran Rank, it has no purpose and will just be a point of quarreling and begging/whining at the guild chat.

-Keep as few ranks as possible, normal Member and Officer, no more. This minimizes the bad behavior many shows when whining for promotions Eye

-Try to keep the same officers all the time, so they can get known with all members in order to optimize their efforts.

-Be sure you got some officer that can lead raids when you are absent.

Useful Addons
Addons are always good, and i love them!
Raid guild should have CT_Raid Mod to keep track off Raids and help defeating bosses.

There are adds that help managing DKP and GuildBanks, but i am not Familiar with those.

This guide is not finished yet, and i would love getting some feedback, suggestions and ideas for addons, RP guilds ad PvP guilds.

Guide : How to obtain the Scepter of the shifting sands

Ever searched for the complete quest line to obtain the scepter and be disappointed to only find some snippets and general bad info ? Maybe this guide will give you more insight . If you find errors please note them down below )

Note you can also use this guide if you want to obtain the Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops recipe. In that case complete the steps in this post (untill you get Anachronos to tell you about the other flights) Then go straight to the blue scepter shard post. In theory all you need is a guild being able to kill broodlord and alot of patience , but it is groupable , maybe even soloable without very big expenses.

I've tried to combine all the info and personal experience into this guide. Also note that this is my first guide )

How to obtain the scepter of the shifting sands ?

It begins with this

What Tomorrow Brings
