| [Feral] Cloud9's Pre-Raid Feral Tank Gear Guide
5 Average: 5 (1 vote) Hello fellow Druids. People are now reaching lvl 80 and getting ready to start raiding, but when am I good to go people ask? In this guide I have added the best items you can get before you start raiding, not only the best for each slot, but also various ways attaining these items whether you like doing Heroics, crafting your own gear or doing PvP. Table of Contents
Introduction - How to use thise guide Finding good tanking gear can be difficult sometimes, thats why i have tried to give the best options pre-raiding. The guide is built up like this: Heroic reward: This item can be found inside a Heroic instance, either dropping from a boss or found in a chest. I recommend: This will be the item i recommend, either from being the most easy to obtain and the bets item statwise out of the options given. Now, lets get started! Heroic reward: Mask of the Watcher. Found in Cache of Eregos after lass boss in color=#33cc00]The Oculus[/]. I recommend: Headguard of Retaliation is easy to get, the stats are nice and it will last you long enough to keep your head cold in raids. Normal reward: Amulet of Wills. Drops from Sjonnir The Ironshaper in Halls of Stone. I recommend: Amulet of Wills is the best and easiest to get, no discussion. Heroic reward: Spaulders of the Careless Thief. Drops from Grand Magus Telestra in The Nexus. I recommend:Trollwoven Spaulders are some of the best shoulders you can get in Wotlk, so these will last you long. The mats can be difficult to grind, but I recommend getting them. Heroic reward: Cloak of the Gushing Wound. Drops from Erekem in The Violet Hold. I recommend: Cloak of the Gushing Wound has a not so bad drop rate and the stats are not so bad either. Durable Nerubhide Cape is also good, but the mats can be a bit difficult to get. Heroic reward: Crystal-Infused Tunic. Drops from Keristrasza in The Nexus. I recommend: Polar Vest. The mats can be a pain to acquire, but just look at the Stamina the chest gives! Put some nice gems in this chest and you can hold on to this baby for a long time. Heroic reward: Bindings of the Tunneler. Drops from Skarvald the Constructor in Utgarde Keep. I recommend: Bindings of the Tunneler are the best bracers, the drop rate is not to bad either. Give it a good enchant to, and these are going to last you for a while. Heroic reward: Charged-Bolt Grips. Dropped by Ionar in Halls of Lightning. I recommend: Handwraps of Preserved History are not only the best gloves, they are also the easiest to obtain from the ones I have listed. With these gloves, you don’t need to get new ones for a looong time. Heroic reward: Sharp-Barbed Leather Belt. Drops from Ingvar the Plunderer in Utgarde Keep. I recommend: Trollwoven Girdle is an easy choice. The mats can be boring to grind, but they are not too difficult to acquire. Heroic reward: Gored Hide Legguards. Drops from Gal'darah in Gundrak. I recommend: Mind-Expanding Leggings would be my choice. Give it a nice gem and it should be very good, grinding reputation to Revered is not to difficult either. Heroic reward: Slag Footguards. Drops from Volkhan in Halls of Lightning. I recommend: Polar Boots has some nice stats, even better when you add gems. The mats could be a bit difficult to acquire, but can be grinded. Heroic reward: Keystone Great-Ring. Drops from The Prophet Tharon'ja in Drak'Tharon Keep. I recommend: Keystone Great-Ring is the best you can get without raiding. There are not many more rings you can get pre-raiding, so I would basically use any one you have acquired from previous quests or instances. Heroic reward: Essence of Gossamer. Drops from Hadronox in Azjol-Nerub. I recommend: There are not many good trinkets you can get without raiding. Any good lvl 70 trinket will be fine, but also any other trinket acquired from quest will be okay. Many professions have trinkets available to craft, so this should be top priority, if you don’t have any profession, I recommend sticking to anything you already got. Heroic reward: Enraged Feral Staff. Drops from Ingvar the Plunderer in Utgarde Keep. I recommend: Enraged Feral Staff is clearly the best weapon. Better start grinding Utgarde Keep. For tanking gear, i wouldn't recommend aiming for the gem bonus for socketing with the right color gems, it is much better going for pure stats therefore, i have only chosen a few gems to socket your gear with. Blue: Solid Sky Sapphire. I would basically spam these unntill you feel you have enough Stamina to endure long fights. So that was my guide. Tell me what you think about it, all comments are appreciated. Note: This guide is not finished yet, i will add more numbers, gems, enchants and more items when more things come in the future.

Great guide. Nicely divided into easy to read sections. One request though. The Head and Neck sections seem to have a coding error. I think you might have forgotten a bracket or a word in your code, so it is showing up with your posted text. Thanks.

cat gear guide?
Hi, that's really a great and useful guide !
With the double talents tree now, and because of this damned nerf of the bear form since 3.0.1, I now turned my druid into a feral cat. Any possibility to have the same pre-raid gear guide for cat druids ? That would be fantastic
good work anyway!!
thks

Staves are all well and good....
But I would have thought that the Heroic Drop from the final boss in Violet Hold was better than the staff from Heroic Utgarde Keep, or the Kirin Tor Rep reward.
Staff of Trickery - http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37883
Especially since the drop on it is so high.
Otherwise, a very good guide. Most of the items are either on my wishlist already, or already owned by me too - so it makes me happy that I know how to deck out my character properly for pre-raiding.
Keep up the good work!
well, you wont need defence
well, you wont need defence items as a druid sins you get def capped from your talent. so just focuse on hp,dodge, damage sins druids got great damage as tank =)as mentioned earlier, your armor will be high no mather what you wear almost, and the armor bonus of items that got armor bonus add is greatly nerfed.
Nice guide. Used most of
Nice guide. Used most of that gear when I first dinged 80. A suggestion I have though is about the neck. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=35680 from Halls of Stone Normal is a nice choice with the added armour at the cost of a small amount of stamina and agility over other pre-naxx equivalents.
Would also like to point out that, while defense isn't a requirement for us anymore, it still adds very small amounts of dodge% for us and can be used well so long as it's not wasting room for items with more useful stats (Stamina/Agility/Dodge Rating/Expertise).
This is great, but I have
This is great, but I have some really nice gear from Kara that I think is better, Like the Gilded Thorium Cloak or the Choker of Discipline. This guide will definitely help me get back my tanking mojo, thank you.
Great Guide!
Someday when I grow up (lvl 54 Tauren Feral Druid) I'll make use of this guide to get better gear.
Very well setup and easy to read!

Nice guide, just one or two
Nice guide, just one or two issues though.
The brilliant thing about a Druid tank is the armour, since it is increased by 370% this means you can easily have a lot more armour than other tank, because you can use rings, trinkets, capes etc with a high armour bonus, such as http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37084 which drops in The Culling of Stratholme (and also loots really good on a Tauren).
The bad thing about Druid tanks is defense. I am yet to discover a piece of leather armour that gives defense rating, which means that tanking Heroics is going to be HARD. You can try to counter this with armour, dodge and Stamina but you will still struggle. I recomend http://www.wowhead.com/?item=36993 because of the brilliant defense bonus, and the armour boost is useful for big pulls. Also you can get your chest enchanted to give Defense rating that really helps.
If someone could put the link properly to those items that would be great
Aside from that, thanks for making such a great guide!

Thanks for the reply. I
Thanks for the reply. I agree, armor is a druids blessing, we can get a real high amount with almost no effort, but i dont think it's a problem. Just use the gear you have and dont think too much about the armor, remember agility also gives some armor.
Defense is no bad thing for druids. With 3/3 talents in Survival of the Fittest, you will get 6% more of all stats, that is just enough for us druids to reach defense capped. We druids should look for stats as Agility and Stamina, those are the main stats.
Thanks

Hey,
Hey, just skimmed through your guide. Nice job. Although I found that you could also add quest links for a better way to get to them, just a suggestion, though.

Sure, i was thinking about doing that. Will update it in my next fix.

Its mind boggling to me how many Druid tanks think they need defense rating at 80. I keep finding post after post of people asking how much defense they need.
The answer is ZERO! Defense is completely useless for every single Druid tank in the game at level 80. Druids with 3/3 SofF talent are completely crit IMMUNE without having to gem for it.
All you need to focus on at 80 is Agility, Stamina, Armor and Expertise.
Great guide btw, it should help a lot of people find some starter gear.

Crafted item: Eviscerator's
Crafted item: Eviscerator's Legguards. Pattern sold by Braeg Stoutbeard in Dalaran.
Vendor item: Mind-Expanding Leggings. Sold by Archmage Alvareaux in Dalaran.
Archmage Alvareaux is slightly lighter colored than Braeg Stoutbeard.
There are more color issues like this in the guide, easily correctable though.
Also, I'd like to add something for the friendliness of the colors:
The names of the NPC's are colored very light.
I think it's a little bit hard to read, my eyes had to focus to read the blue NPC names. You could replace it with a slightly darker color.
Other than that, looks awesome!

Hmmm very good point. Try a darker blue. The same for the green place-names - they are a little to bright to read easily.

Very Nice!
This is very useful, I need to add a section like this to my resto guide as well, I like very much how you formatted it.
It's already good, but I just got an idea while reading it for an extra feature: you could include a list of the heroics that are most useful to run to gear up, for gear or farming or what have you.
Anyway it looks great, keep up the good work!
