Hello.

THIS GUIDE IS A BASIC GUIDE OF HOW YOU CAN GET GOLD VERY FAST WHILE USING LEVELLING GUIDES AVAILABLE HERE. IF YOU LEVEL FAST, YOU NEED TO GAIN GOLD FAST!

I have used the levelling guides made by James. You know his levelling guides rock! But since you level so fast, you might wake up and find out that you don’t have as much gold as you wanted. Don’t get me wrong, you get gold by following James guides, but I am sure you want more! Who doesn’t? This guide will help you get more gold while also following James's guides.

So you are getting bored of same old realm you are playing on. Or you just bought WoW. You start a character on a realm. You start from scratch and you have no high level on that realm to support your low level with gold.

In this guide I will try to help you gain the gold you need.

You just made your character. First thing you do, go grind on lvl 1 mobs and when you have 1g you can move to the next step. Actually, I was just kidding… This guide will help you get the gold you need, without needing to grind for hours.

This guide contains 2 parts: Gold making professions and info about AH.

Professions

Skinning & Mining… Yes, I know… Why read this guide when you already know that these professions are the money making ones. Well my friends, many of you have these professions but you still don’t get the gold you could have gotten. And for those that do not know of this, please pay attention.

1. Congratulations, you just joined a new realm with a new character. At your starting zone, there will be no veins you can mine, or animals you can skin. So there is no point to get the professions just yet. BUT! When you finish questing at your starting zone you will be around level 5. You get to the new town where you have class trainers, traders, innkeeper etc. First thing you need to do before you start questing again is:

- Find the Skinning and Mining trainers. Buy a skinning knife and a mining pick. If you do not have enough silver to pay for the professions, the knife and pick, don’t worry. You can start on questing and when you get to the money you need to pay for the professions, the knife and pick go get them!

Skinning
It’s very easy to get skill in skinning. You have many quests where it involves killing of beasts. There is no need to run around killing more animals then normal to get more and more leather. That’s called grinding, and we don’t want that! Waste of TIME! So just kill the mobs you have in the quests and skin them.

Mining
This is a bit more tricky then skinning. Sadly, you can’t kill a mob and then hit it with the pick in the head trying to get some ores out of it. Sometimes you might also have small problems like ‘Requires more skill’. And then you think ‘No problem, I will buy some ores and smelt them and get more skill’. But what happens when all the ores you can smelt are coloured GRAY?! You get no skill. Then you will have to go back for a few minutes and find some veins that will advance your skill. It might seem annoying but if you keep an eye out for veins close by where you are running or questing, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Bags
As you know, James guides require you to have bags with many slots. I advise you to do the same. Get bags with many slots so you can store your leather and ores. Each time you are in a city/town where there is a bank, leave your leather & ores in the bank. Each time you are in a city/town with Auction House, sell your leather and ores. (Read more about AH on the next guide part).

Auction House
You got the professions and now have leather and ores/bars you can sell. Easy now, it depends what you want. By that I mean:

Fast Gold: At a low level, getting gold fast is crucial. So I advise you to do this in case you need gold fast, or if you level very fast. There is no point in using 1 week to sell at a normal price 40 Copper Bars when you have levelled so high that you mine Steel and Iron ores. I myself level fast, so I choose this option when I am at the AH.

You have a stack (20) of Thorium Bars. You go at the AH and look up the prices. You see that most of the stacks sell at 55-60gold. If you put your Thorium Bars with the buy out price at 55-60gold you will have competition. By that I mean there are many other sellers that give the same offer for as many bars as you. But if you want to sell them faster and still get a lot of gold do this:

- If most stacks sell at 60gold you can put your stacks at 55-57gold. It might also work at 59gold because the buyer will not pay 60gold if he has the option of paying only 59gold. I normally wait 1 hour and I already get mails from the AH that my stacks are sold.

This option is great to get gold fast. You get gold fast but you also loose a few gold’s when selling. Why? Because you sell a bit under the normal buy out price. The people that have the stacks at 60gold will sell their stacks some day and get 60gold. But you will sell your stacks in less then 24 hours but get 1gold less. Its not so much if you think about it. But if we are talking about epic items that can cost 2.000gold, well going down with 1gold will not help.

The other option is to get the normal amount of gold, but as said earlier… it takes more time for people to buy it.

Doesn’t sound so hard now dose it? It’s not hard… I had around 1.000 gold when I hit level 60. So buying mounts and paying for the riding skills at level 30 and 60 will be no problem. Plus you will still have a lot of gold left.

I know that some of you use other tactics for making gold while levelling up. But this is the most basic. I made this especially for the people that start playing WoW. And trust me, there are a lot of players out there that still don’t have enough gold at level 60 to buy the epic riding mount.

Again, this is a basic guide for making easy gold while levelling up. I will try to make a better gold making guide that has more info with more choices.

AddOns

Submitted by Zerinj on Mon, 2009-02-16 22:12.

There are two addons I would highly recommend for making Gold while questing.

 • Sellfish: This addon basically tells you the Gold/Silver/Copper value of each item.
 • VendorBait: This addon highlights the quest reward which has the highest vendor value, saving you time.

Auction House Character

Submitted by domybidding on Sat, 2009-02-14 19:08.

Nice guide for people starting out. The biggest improvement that I would suggest is to make an alt character and have them stay in the big city. You mail all the stuff you gather to this character who runs the auctions. You can let the auction run longer and you will quickly build up the gold to fund all your different needs. Note the best city for the alt that I have found is Exodar. The mail box is just outside the AH. Other tips, 48 hour auctions, full stacks only, specialize ie if you are selling leather know what the stacks normally sell for so you dont have to look up each time.
Cheers.

Submitted by Kokosmin on Fri, 2009-02-13 08:42.

well i had 1000g because i level very fast. I just visit the AH when i take a trip to Orgrimmar (like each 2 levels when i have to learn new class skills). I had big problems keeping my skill high enough for skinning and mining. But yes, if you have the time to collect every items that can be used to craft stuff, put it in your bank and sell them. This will bring more gold to your pocket. And sry about the colors. I will edit them when i get back from work today Smiling

And ye, we should make one gold making guide that can be separated in more parts. Like tips for making gold, farming gold etc. So there will not be guides that point out the same tips.

And thanks again guys for the feedback Smiling

Why Gold Guides?

Submitted by Kimerz on Thu, 2009-02-12 22:35.

Every one I've ever read was pretty pointless. My main is a level 54 mage, so I don't have a rich level 80 to support me. Still, I've got approximately 2000G in the bank. All I've ever done is grab the herbs I ran across while leveling, and occasionally, if I was already in the area, picking up a limited recipe to auction to those without enough time to go get it themselves. Oh, and sell my loot.

There's only one secret to making gold: Get two gathering professions. Crafting professions are worthless while leveling.

OK guide though I have to

Submitted by Tag on Thu, 2009-02-12 20:43.

OK guide though I have to highlight that yellow writing to actually be able to read it Laughing out loud Change it to a darker tone. Nice simple info for starters but we do seen to have endless little snippets of money-making advice. This does bring up the fact that we really need a comprehensive and fully updated gold making guide.:/

This Works Great

Submitted by VicVega on Thu, 2009-02-12 19:45.

I saw this and I thought .... hmmm I do this all ready. And it works fantastic!!!! The comment at the end about having 1000 gold at 60 shocked me though.... Im lvl 49 and by using this method I am above 1800 gold!!! That by the way was with minimal grinding, and minimum node searching (for mining lvl ups only) As a tip, if you don't care about leveling your mining that fast sell the ore straight out, do not smelt it. You will find that bars go for more than ore in the AH but they take waaaaaayyy longer to sell. Ore on the other hand can be prospected by jewelcrafters, and used by other miners to smelt and perform a quick lvl up. Sure you sacrifice a few gold here and there but you still sell a ton of the stuff and faster than the bars sell for.

Also this may go without saying, but...... If you do grind, make sure you grind down on mobs that can be skinned.

The only comment i would make in criticism of this guide, is dude change the yellow to something more readable.

I always recommend new

Submitted by Therbear on Thu, 2009-02-12 19:39.

I always recommend new players take mining because it is a good gold maker.
I'd also add that with the new inscription profession, herbalism can also be a good money maker.
I do recall that when LK launched , stacks of peacebloom were going for 20g. Sadly it didn't last Sad

Hey there did you know

Submitted by Jahwo on Thu, 2009-02-12 17:32.

Hey there Smiling

did you know that its not required to give every headline a different color? Eye
Headlines should be "eye-catching", this means they should be big and in a color that is well readable. For example

Headline

is bad!

If you take a look at headlines in Jame's guide you should notice the difference to your headlines. And it's no shame to "copy" a design that has proven itself. here is an example for a headline that fulfills its task to call attention to itself.

Headline

it's big and readable. And hr tags(the horizontal line) are a good way to spereate your guide.
[ size=18][ color=#009900]Headline[ /color][ /size]

And because no one linked it yet: Read Jame's Guide Writing Guide !!

Oh and ALL CAPS SENTENCES ARE BAAAD! Smiling

Okay

Submitted by Jame on Thu, 2009-02-12 02:02.

That's an ok guide. Problem is that we already have the same tips scattered over the dozens of gold guides we have, but I guess this one is different.

It needs to be improved though, as Jiyambi said the text formating could use some improvements. And you also need to run it through a spellchecker.

For starters, replace all the "Levelling" with "Leveling".

And replace James's by Jame's (yes, my nickname is actually Jame, without the "s" at the end).

Other than that, good work!

It would be nice if we could

Submitted by Jiyambi on Thu, 2009-02-12 04:22.

It would be nice if we could combine all the gold making guides (at least the ones that are "tips" like this one) into one. Definitely not volunteering to be the one to do this, though - way too busy right now even to properly keep my own guides up to date!

While I'm not sure this

Submitted by Jiyambi on Thu, 2009-02-12 01:30.

While I'm not sure this warrants a full guide, these are decent tips and the concern of not having money due to leveling quickly is a valid one. It was especially bad for me when I teamed with a friend for triple XP - add to that rested and the bonus from heirloom shoulders and you are leveling at lightning speed.

However, you really need to change the colors you are using. They are *way* too light. The only ones dark enough are the red and the brown. See the Color Guide (though be cautious since even some of those colors are too light).

you say leveling, i say lvling!!!

Submitted by Borger on Wed, 2009-02-25 13:18.

i see your point fully and agree with it, but playing wow will in no way teach you how to spell right from my xp, since most of the general lingo in wow is such shortenings and bad spelling that he might just have been seeing it spelled levelling from the day he began, most peopl (ppl) say lvl not level or omg! instead of oh my god! so tbh your mark seemed a bit harsh on a minor issue...there is no history of naming flaming or shaming on this site that ive seen so far so please (plz) dont do it, its just wrong.

P.S. yes the shorts r mostly there since i cant remember the correct spelling of em, there u go enjoy Smiling

Leveling is the correct

Submitted by Jame on Wed, 2009-02-25 15:20.

Leveling is the correct spelling.
Lvling is ok, it's a commonly accepted shortening.

Levelling is incorrect. Of course there's no reason to yell at the author of this guide because it's an honest mistake. However, it's still sad to see a spelling mistake on a word included in the title of a guide.

What I find even more sad is that people think that wow will in no way teach you how to spell right. It just goes to show that the level of literacy has severely dropped in the MMORPG world.

I attained my current level of english mostly thanks to MMORPGs, learning it on the fly while playing Everquest, where people still could spell properly and weren't too lazy to spell "you" instead of "u".

Which is why we are not very tolerant with bad spelling on wow-pro. It has nothing to do with being Elitists. It's simply much more enjoyable for the readers to read proper english. And that's why we frown upon lazyness such as "u", "ur", "u r", etc.

I personally hate it.

Abbreviations are fine when they make sense.

LFG instead of Looking for Group makes sense.
HFP instead of Hellfire Penninsula makes sense.

But u instead of you doesn't make sense. Come on, two letters is that much of a big deal? I could understand if you were writing from your cell phone, but on a keyboard?

No sorry, that doesn't cut it and we'll not condone all that "u" "ur" "plz" "thx" crap here.

But worse is...

Submitted by Tannyr on Thu, 2009-02-12 23:00.

I think "rouge" bothers me the most of all, especially when rogues themselves cannot spell their class-name correctly. I guess they know there is a "u" in there someplace and can't decide where to put it.

By the way, is it true that most WoW-Pro visitors are not native English-speakers?

This has nothing to do with races or colonial history Sticking out tongue
