Duskwood 20-30 (alliance leveling guide)

I'd like to start off with saying this is going to be Duskwood only. I know there's some nice quests in Wetlands / Ashenvale, but honestly, I don't know these places. Smiling Due to this, there's a pretty bit of grinding. If you know some good path there, please let me know.

Quests are in orange, mobs (both friendly and hostile), places (Darkshire, Stormwind, Sven's Camp, etc.), and items will be in bold.

This starts at level 20. You can easily get to 20 by doing the quests in your starting zone and the level 12-20 zone nearby.

NOTE: Everytime you are in Darkshire, you should check the Engineering Supplies vendor for a Bronze Tube until you have one. You'll need it later on.

Level 20-21

First of all, go to Sentinel Hill. Humen should have the flight-path (FP) from there. Dwarfs, Gnomes, Draenei, and Night Elves should first reach Ironforge (IF), take the tram, go through Elwynn Forest, south-west to Westfall, and you should see the arrow on your minimap.

When you're in Sentinel Hill, take the path leading south. When the road splits in two, take the eastern one. From here, continue east until you reach Watcher Dodds (45,66). Take the quest Eight-Legged Menaces. Keep on going east until you reach Darkshire. Get the flight path (FP, 77,44) here. Get the quest The Totem of Infliction from Madame Eva (75,45). Bind at the inn (73,44). Get all the quests (The Hermit, Deliveries to Sven, and Raven Hill) from Elaine Carevin. Then go southwest at the road, past Watcher Dodds. Stop at Raven Hill and talk to Jitters (18,56). Turn in Raven Hill. He will give you another quest, Jitters' Growling Gut. Now continue west until you reach the river. From here, go north killing the spiders. When you reach the river again (the one north of Duskwood), you will be at Sven's Camp. Turn in Deliveries to Sven, then talk to Lars (7,33), he will give you the quest Wolves at Our Heels.
What you need to do now is:

  • Kill spiders until you've gotten
    • 6 Gooey Spider Legs
    • Your 15 Pygmy Venom Web Spider kills
    • 5 Vials of Spider Venom
  • Kill wolves until you've killed all 20 of those.

Basically, just go up and down The Hushed Bank and The Darkened Bank, killing everything you see. You should also turn in The Hermit at 28,31 at some point and get the follow-up Supplies from Darkshire. When you're done with Wolves at Our Heels, go turn it in at Lars (7,33). Talk to Sven, right next to Lars, and get the quest Sven's Revenge. Make sure you have your spider kills / legs / vials done. Then go to Sentinel Hill and fly to Darkshire or run to Darkshire, whichever is closest. When you're there, talk to Chef Grual, get the follow-up and turn it in instantly, as you already have the 6 Gooey Spider Legs. Get the follow-up, Return to Jitters. Go outside the inn and talk to Commander Althea Ebonlocke (73,46) and get the quest The Night Watch. Sell / repair / buy food + drinks. Take the road leading south. Follow this road until you reach Watcher Dodds (45,66). Turn in the quest. Keep on following the road west until you (once again) reach Raven Hill. Turn in Return to Jitters. If you aren't level 22 by now, keep on grinding wolves / spiders until you are.

Level 22-23

NOTE: If you haven't got hold of a Bronze Tube by now, go buy one at AH or find an engineer who can make it for you.

If you are close to Darkshire, run there. If not, go to Sentinel Hill and fly to Darkshire. When you're in Darkshire, re-stock food + drinks, sell, repair, etc. Fly to Stormwind. Train, then use your Hearthstone (HS) back to Darkshire. Turn in Supplies from Darkshire and get the follow-up. Get the quest Look to the Stars at 79,47 and turn it in instantly, as you already have the item needed. Get the follow-up. Go south to Blind Mary at 81,59. Turn in Ghost Hair Thread and Look to the Stars. Get both follow-ups. Go further south until you reach something looking like a farm stead. When you stand there, face south-east, and you should see a path going through two hills. Take that path, and you will be at Tranquil Gardens Cemetary (76,65). Here's all the Skeletal Mages and Warriors you need for The Night Watch. You'll also find the Insane Ghoul, which will be hard at 22 or 23, but use your long cool down abilities and you should be fine. If you have problems at level 22, try killing it again at 23. Keep on killing those until you you're 3200 xp or less away from level 24. By then, you should have your 6 mages, 8 warriors, and your 10 Skeleton Fingers. If not, keep on killing them until you do.

When you're 3200 xp (or less) XP away from level 24, go turn in The Night Watch in Darkshire. Get the follow up. Also turn in Return the Comb, get Deliver the Thread. Turn in Look to the Stars at Viktori Prism'Antras at 79,47. Get Look to the Stars.

Level 24

First of all, sell, repair, etc.

Now it's time for your first instance: Stockades! You might think, hey, this is a bit low level to go there.. Well, try to get a group for there anyway Eye

For Stockades, you need the following quests:

  • Crime and Punishment from Councilman Millstipe in Darkshire Town Hall
  • What Comes Around... from Guard Berton in Lakeshire, right outside the inn
  • The Color of Blood from Nikova Raskol, wandering around in Old Town in SW
  • Quell the Uprising from Warden Thelwater standing right outside the Stockades.
  • The Stockade Riots from Warden Thelwater as well, but only if you killed Van Cleef and did the An Unsent Letter questline. Else skip it.)
  • The Fury Runs Deep from Motley Garmason in Dun Modr if you did Dark Iron War. Else skip it.)

Before doing Stockades, you should train your new skills.

Doing Stockades + turning in all the quests (remember to do the quest line for The Stockade Riots; you get a nice blue ring, but you need a level 31+ to help you) should make you level to 25. If not, grind Skeletal Mages / Warriors until you are level 25.

Level 25

Go back to Darkshire. Sell, repair, re-stock food / drinks. Take the road leading south of town. Keep on following it until you reach Watcher Dodds. From here, go south. You will be at The Yorgen Farmstead. Fight your way to the back of the barn (keep an eye out for the Defias; the mages hit hard, and the rogues might surprise you). You will see a mound of dirt. Right-click it and complete Sven's Revenge. Get the follow-up Sven's Camp. Fight your way back. Go to Sven's Camp (you should know where it is by now Eye). Talk to Sven, turn in Sven's Camp get the follow-up The Shadowy Figure.
Go to the Hermit's Shack at 28,31, turn in Deliver the Thread, and get the follow-up Zombie Juice. Use your HS to Darkshire (fly there from Sentinel Hill if your HS is on cool down (CD)). Go around there, talking to everyone you need in order to do The Shadowy Figure. When you're talking to Tavernkeep Smitts, you should also turn in Zombie Juice and get the follow-up Gather Rot Blossoms. Get the follow-up Find the Shadowy Figure. Go back to Raven Hill and talk to Jitters. Turn in Find the Shadowy Figure. Get the follow-up Return to Sven. Go a bit north of here, and you will find enough Skeletal Fiends and Skeletal Horrors for you to complete The Night Watch. When you've killed all 30 and got your 8 Rot Blossoms, go see Sven and turn in Return to Sven. Get the follow-up Proving Your Worth. If you aren't 3,075 xp or less from level 26, grind on Skeletal Fiends/Horrors until you are. Get back to Darkshire (either by using your HS or by flying from Sentinel Hill). Turn in Gather Rot Blossoms and take the follow-up, Juice Delivery. Turn in The Night Watch and get the follow-up. Congrats on level 26 Eye

Level 26

Grab The Legend of Stalvan from Madame Eva, then talk to Clerk Daltry to turn it in and ge the follow-up. Hop on a gryphon to Sentinel Hill and run to 41,66. There's a footlocker, open it and take the follow-up. A level 25 will spawn as well; kill it. Get back to Darkshire (either by HSing or by running). Talk to Clerk Daltry to turn in the quest and get the follow-up. Now take the road leading north of Darkshire and follow it until it bends eastwards (towards Redridge). Keep on running north until you'll end up in Elwynn Forest. When you reach the road here, keep on following it west until you are in Goldshire.

When you're in Goldshire, talk to Innkeeper Farley and turn in The Legend of Stalvan. Get the follow-up The Legend of Stalvan and run upstairs. Here you'll find a chest. Open it and grab the letter, then run to SW (mages can teleport if they want).

When you're in Stormwind, run to 29,61 and talk to Caretaker Folsom. Turn in The Legend of Stalvan and get the follow-up. Now you can right-click one of the crates next to him. Do that and turn in the quest, get the follow-up, another level 25 banshee will spawn, just kill it again. If you have the FP to Lakeshire, fly there and run to Eastvale Logging Camp. If you don't have it, you can fly to Darkshire and run from there, or just simply run from SW. Talk to Marshal Haggard there, turn in the quest and get the follow-up. Run upstairs in the house next to him and open the chest. Take the faded journal page and yet another level 25 banshee will spawn, just kill it "as per usual" Sticking out tongue. Run back to Marshal Haggard and turn it in, get the follow-up.

Get back to Darkshire (either by running or HSing, up to you). Talk to the innkeeper and turn in the quest. Get the follow-up and run outside to talk with Commander Ebonlocke (the one who gives The Night Watch quests). Run back and forth between her and Clerk Daltry, turning in the quests and getting the follow-ups (Don't you feel like an errand boy? Sticking out tongue) until you have the final The Legend of Stalvan (which should be red, as it's a level 35 quest). Now, go to Calor at 75,47 and get the quest Worgen in the Woods. Then go to Brightwood Grove west of Darkshire and grind on worgens there until you are 1200 xp (or less) away from level 27.

When you are, go turn in Worgen in the Woods Grats on dinging level 27 Smiling

Level 27

Sell, repair, buy food/water, etc. Then go to 28,31 and turn in Juice Delivery. Get the follow-up, Ghoulish Effigy. Then turn around and go kill any ghoul (Bone Chewer, Plague Spreader, Brain Eater, etc.) until:

  • You have your 10 Ghoul Fangs
  • You have your 7 Ghoul Ribs
  • You have killed 20 Plague Spreaders
  • You are 6,650 xp or less away from level 28.

I know that's quite a bit of grinding, but this is a good spot Smiling

When you have the above objectives done, go turn in Ghoulish Effigy and get the follow-up Ogre Thieves. HS to Darkshire and turn in The Night Watch and Totem of Infliction. Grats on dinging level 28 Eye

Level 28

Fly to SW and train, sell, repair, etc. Then fly to Sentinel Hill. Run eastwards to Raven Hill to the crypt around 15,38. Here's plenty of mobs for you to complete Proving Your Worth.

When you're done, go turn it in at Sven, but don't get the follow-up. Then get back to Darkshire.

Go east to Brightwood Grove. Then kill Nightbane Dark Runners until you got all 12 kills. Then it's time to grind (again Sticking out tongue). It's up to you whether you want to grind at ghouls at Raven Hill, worgens at Brightwood Grove, or skeletons in the crypt.

When you're a little less from a bubble away from level 29 (1,750 xp), warp to Darkshire and turn in Worgen in the Woods. Get the follow-up with the same name.

Level 29

Go south to the cave at 73,75. Kill all the worgens you need there, then go back to Darkshire. Turn in the quest, get the follow-up, and turn it in.
Then go out north of Darkshire to the house at 77,36. Clear a bit around the house. When you feel you've cleared enough, go in there and kill Stalvan Mistmantle. He's level 32, but if you use long cooldown abilities and a potion, you should be able to kill him. If you can't kill him, abandon The Legend of Stalvan. Now run south of Darkshire, following the path until you reach Watcher Dodds. Here you'll see a path going southwest; follow it, and you'll soon enough reach an ogre camp. Kill ogres while moving west, and you'll see a cave. Right next to the entrance, there's a crate. Open it and loot Abercrombie's Crate. Then go in the cave. Go to 38,79 in the cave. Here is Zzarc'Vul. (if he isn't there, kill some ogres while waiting for him to respawn) Kill him and loot his monocle (he should be a pushover). Then run north to Abercrombie's House and turn in the quest. Get the follow-up Note to the Mayor. Then run or hearth back to Darkshire. Turn in Look to the Stars. Then run into the city hall and run around between the NPCs to complete the Note to the Mayor quests. Don't accept the quest Bride of the Embalmer unless you got either a high-level or a good group to complete it. If you haven't dinged 30 yet, go grind on worgens, ghouls or ogres.

Congratulations on dinging 30 and finishing my guide! Smiling Time for you to continue your level using Jame's guide set.

Great guide

Submitted by Defrib on Fri, 2008-09-05 15:29.

Howdy!
I started your guide when I was 21 and about 1/3. I was shocked at how fast the xp started rolling in, with about 4 hours invested I am about to ding 25. I am going to forgo the stockades as I mainly play solo and am looking forward to finishing up the guide.

Thanks much!

Big mistake in guide

Submitted by raptopp on Sun, 2007-06-24 12:26.

There is a mistake in the guide. When you get the quest, Legend of Stalvan, your quest says to go to moonbrook, in guide it says go to goldshire.... goldshire is after moonbrook. so dont go to goldshire first, or you will waste time Sticking out tongue

Nuh uh, I told you to go to Moonbrook first ;p although it doesn't say Moonbrook specifically, it says "Go to Sentinel Hill, then go to 41,66". Thanks anyway Eye

Depending on your play

Submitted by alasdair on Sun, 2007-07-01 04:37.

Depending on your play style, this guide can be great, or it can be pretty frustrating...

On numerous occasions I had to rub my eyes to check if I was reading it correctly, In the 22 - 23 section you're asked to start questing at 22 (mary's comb, the night watch), which is fine, but then you're asked to grind here until you're 3000 or so EXP from level 24!

I think this guide would best suit people who powerlevel/grind/farm...as a quester I didn't enjoy it.

For the level 28 section,

Submitted by Thiberos on Mon, 2007-08-27 01:44.

For the level 28 section, When I completed all those quests, I was a 3rd of the way to level 29. I would NOT grind until 29, and the stuff that you said to grind on, gave me almost No XP. I went to Thousand Needles to Grind on Galek Centaurs. THAT is good XP. I grinded 3 levels on those guys, Amazing XP, and they die pretty fast on my pally Smiling

Very good!

Submitted by disregard_lc on Sat, 2007-06-02 14:51.

Duskwood is one of my favorite all-time zones in WoW. One thing that you may want to do in lieu of grinding is to head north to Redridge Mountains and do a few of the quests over there, as the zone is more around 17-28ish.

It did get a little tough as I played enough that I didn't have much rested and was forced to grind quite a bit with Shaman, so I just complimented this guide with some information in Redridge.

Thanks, I took my Draenei Shaman over to Duskwood as soon as I finished the Shaman quest at 20, I really wanted to avoid Ashenvale/Astranaar. Smiling

The best thing about this guide is that it doesn't duplicate anything from Jame's levelling guide - so you don't get stuck in a grind pit for a level or two.
