Installation

Installing Externals
Three external files are needed to run this addon.

  • TourGuide - The base of the addon.
  • TomTom - Handles coordinates (It's that arrow which points you to where you need to go). If you have Cartographer, you don't need this, since Cartographer has it's own arrow.
  • Lightheaded - Makes TomTom even better, make sure to install this addon or you won't always get a TomTom arrow to show you the way.
  • WARNING: If you have QuestHelper installed, you should disable it, or at least disable the TomTom arrow option in Questhelper, or it will conflict with our addon and give you wrong directions.

If you are not familiar with the installation of addons, it can be done as follows:

For PC users:

  1. Download and unzip the addon files.
  2. Navigate to the World of Warcraft directory
    • Windows XP: C:\\Program Files\World of Warcraft
    • Windows Vista: C:\\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft
  3. Open the "Interface" folder, then the "Addons" folder inside it.
  4. Copy and paste the "TourGuide", "TomTom" and "Lightheaded" folders into the World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons directory.

For MAC users:

  1. Download and unzip the addon files.
  2. Go to Finder -> /Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons/
  3. Copy and paste the "TourGuide", "TomTom" and "Lightheaded" folders into the World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons directory.

You can check ingame if you've installed it correctly; when you go to the character selection screen, down the bottom there is a button labelled Addons. Click that, then scroll down and look for Lightheaded, TomTom and TourGuide (it's in alphabetical order). Make sure they're enabled.

Installing the WoW-Pro Guides: Horde
  1. Download the WoW-Pro_TourGuide_Horde and unzip it
  2. Copy and paste the "WoW-Pro_TourGuide_Horde" folder into the "World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons/" folder.
  3. Launch wow, and at the character selection screen click on the "Addons" button on the lower-left corner. Make sure that the following 3 addons are activated: TomTom, TourGuide, WoW-Pro Tourguide Horde and Lightheaded (Lightheaded A,B,C,D,etc as well).

  4. Once in game, click on the TourGuide bar (should be just under your minimap). This will open the "Guides" page. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and you'll see the WoW-Pro Guides:

Select the guide you want and there you go!

Even though it's an in-game addon, there are still a few things you need to know, and you'll find them in each section of the guide below. They will contain information such as shopping lists, general information about the zone and other things which can't be included in the addon for practical reasons. The addon will tell you to alt-tab back to the guide page whenever necessary, this will happen very rarely though, don't worry, 99% of the guide is taken care of by the addon in-game!

Error

Submitted by Intermission on Thu, 2009-02-19 04:12.

First off, I want to say Hello, I've been using the site and the guides for awhile now, I'm just now joining the community though and I'm using Jame's add on, in particular the Hellfire peninsula(60-63). I'm getting a message from it that says,

Cannot find zone "[WoW-Pro | Jame's] Hellfire Peninsula", using current zone

It seems to happen when I turn quests in.

I just wanted to give a heads up on it. Thanks for all the hard work everyone has done as far as the addons and the guides in general.

Submitted by Jiyambi on Thu, 2009-02-19 00:59.

Heh, sorry. Jahwo will be updating the in-progress page to make it easier to know who is working on what. However, it's perfectly fine to have multiple testers - though it's probably best if we test in series (one after another) rather than in parallel (at the same time).

I personally have no plans to look at the BE guide, at least not for quite some time. So have fun!

*Fixed .xml for Hosho's Barrens 12-20.

Submitted by Giorgio on Thu, 2009-02-19 16:52.

Thats great!!

Think next round we could actually get the guide as well? I was getting "no guide loaded", even though I clicked the guide.

Edit:I logged off to come here, and when I returned the guide itself is completely gone, yet when I log onto another toon, same server, it's there?!?

This addon is garbage, good in theory, but more trouble than it's worth.

And please, no ignorant comments like, "did you make sure to enable the addon?" I am fully aware on how to add addons. NEVER have I had so much trouble with an addon. I have followed every instruction, dotted my i's, crossed my t's, delete the addons, reload the addons, still have problems.

Sorry Jame, I love this site and I love what you have done for the WoW community, but either get someone on this that knows what they are doing or just dump it altogether. At least with the paper guides your getting EVERYTHING, not bits and pieces, or guide titles with no guides, not to mention that with the paper versions, your getting guides that meet your high standards.

If I'm coming off as harsh I apologize. That's not my intention. Just very frustrated. Everything I have tried on this site has worked great....except this.

I just want to add to what

Submitted by Shinke on Mon, 2009-02-23 23:33.

I just want to add to what Jame and Jiyambi said.

First off, this is VERY rude! Before you start criticising what these fine folks are doing for You and the entire WoW-Pro Community, consider how much time they have spent working on this, time they could have been spending doing fun things.

Also before criticising, make sure you know what the hell you're doing with the addon! You probably don't know how to choose a guide, from what you said, and don't really have a problem with it. Besides, out of everyone that's tested the addon, maybe 10 people have had problems with it.

It sounds like you we're able to open the addon, you just don't know how to select a guide! Re-read the main info page and I would bet you find out what you're doing wrong with the addon.

Overall, I don't want to start yelling again.. the last time I did that I got into some trouble, I just want to keep you on the straight and narrow.

Well you do come off as

Submitted by Jame on Mon, 2009-02-23 22:47.

Well you do come off as harsh, borderline rude and mostly very impatient.

The addon is still a work in progress, it's a beta, problems will occur. What we need is people willing to help us figure out problems so we can troubleshoot them.

What we do NOT need:

-someone to come and tell us "get someone with a clue about addons" (implying that we have no clue) or to dump it altogether

The fact is, I've never had any troubles to get the addon to work myself, and I did it on 3 different systems, even on one running Windows 7. And obviously hundreds of other users also had no problems.

What you can do:

-Wait until I upload the next version of the addon (which should be tomorrow), some big changes will be included. All the default guides will be removed from the list and the wow-pro guides will be loaded dynamically every time you log on a character. This should fix your issue, in theory.

I agree with Jame, the most

Submitted by Jiyambi on Mon, 2009-02-23 22:56.

I agree with Jame, the most important thing to remember is that this is a beta. You likely didn't have this much trouble in the past because you were using finished guides, not betas. And as Jame said, for the most part I have had zero issues other than ones easily identifiable as I code.

Little Mistake

Submitted by Horschd on Tue, 2009-02-17 19:03.

Found some little Mistakes in
Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Hellfire Peninsula | Black Cat | Needs Testing

- Line 189ff Bloody Vengeance |QID|10350| the Quest-ID should be 10250.

- ...and a little typo: Line 371:A The Umbrafen Tride |QID|9747| should be TriBe.

- Line 373ff A Leader of the Darkcrest |QID|9370| Quest ID should be 9730

Great work so far!

Addon help

Submitted by jonamur on Mon, 2009-02-16 11:59.

Hi
I have been using your online guide for some time, and have just switched over to the addon, and was wondering if there was a way for it to 'guess' which part of the guide I had gotten to, by the quests I have in my log currently?
For instance my 64 DK is some way into Nagrand, but when I load the addon it tries to start from the very beginning of Nagrand.
Is there a way to do this, or is it just not possible with an addon?
Thanks
btw your guides are brilliant.

The addon will automatically

Submitted by Jame on Mon, 2009-02-16 17:22.

The addon will automatically track which quest you already have in your quest log, and will skip them if you already have completed them.

However, the other steps still need to be checked manually.

Oh, very nice

Submitted by tobarstep on Sat, 2009-02-14 06:58.

I just started using TourGuide a few weeks ago when I rerolled to a new server. I loved it except for a few things that really irked me. The default guides included didn't really seem optimized like I was used to from your guides. They had me accepting quests in odd order and running out to do quests that were still orange to me while I had green ones in my log as yet unfinished. They also didn't have too much continuity between zones. The Barrens guide pretty much stuck to the Barrens without you ever setting foot in Stonetalon. Things like that.

I'm so happy to see you've taken your out-game guides and made them in-game.

That's because you were NOT

Submitted by Jame on Mon, 2009-02-16 16:18.

That's because you were NOT following our guides. You were following the default guides that come with the TourGuide addon, and those have nothing to do with wow-pro.

To use the WOW-PRO guides, you have to scroll down the list. And you'll find the [WoW-Pro | xxxx] Guides at the bottom of the list.

Note: There's no scroll bar, you have to use your MOUSE ROLL to scroll down.

Addon different than the guides.

Submitted by Kranky on Mon, 2009-02-16 16:02.

I have noticed the same thing about the addon version being a lot different than the guides Jame did. I see that a lot of quests have been removed from the guides. I don't know if this was done because TourGuide can not handle a bigger guide or not. I do notice that the order of the addon version is a lot different also.

Still love the addon though.

Thanks Guys for all the hard work.

No WoW-Pro

Submitted by Cesard on Wed, 2009-02-11 01:45.

When I initially followed the instructions, and went to step 4, the list stops at SSO Dailies (70). There were no WoW-Pro entries, which I needed as I wanted to use the addon for levelling in Borean Tundra.

The workaround I did was to delete the guides, and just have the WoW-Pro guide for Borean Tundra in the guide folder. Since that was the only one there, it showed up.

I'm running this on a Mac, not sure if that would be an issue. It shouldn't be.

I'd like to have all the guides available if I can.. Including the WoW-Pro ones.

Any hints on how I can do that?

Thanks much!

tourguide & zygor

Submitted by toliman on Tue, 2009-02-24 03:54.

all you have to do is load up both guides, scroll back a few quests in zygor's guide, and sync up manually. should take about 5 minutes to tick about 30-50 boxes.

e,g, move the tourguide window to the right hand side, zygor on the left. expand both windows, and scroll back a few quests in zygor's. as you see a title, tick it off in the expanded tourguide window. the progress/completed order won't always be the same as zygor's guides, but it will be similar enough.

to save a bit more time, if you have your lightheaded/quest window open, you can also find the list of quests in the quest chain, which has names you can tick off in the tourguide window.

It's not just that

Submitted by Canadian87 on Thu, 2009-02-05 03:38.

It's not just the lack of completeness in the TourGuide, I like the Wow-Pro format more, I have a button bound to the next button, and it works perfectly the way I'd want it to.

0 problems with the original Wow-Pro custom so far.

As for TomTom, i think it's just messing up with one of my other addons, I used to use QuestHelper till the other day when I found WowPro...

I had also installed lightheadedabcd, but I think I'll stick with the original WoW Pro as long as I can, then back to QuestHelper for me, I really dislike the TourGuide format.

I can't fathom how you could

Submitted by Jame on Thu, 2009-02-05 18:00.

I can't fathom how you could like QuestHelper but dislike TourGuide. It's exactly the same thing besides it's better and has more information when needed.

You don't even need to have a button bound for the "next step", because 99% of the steps in TourGuide will auto-complete once we're done with improving the addon.

Have you tried Maw's Human 1-12 Leveling Guide in TourGuide format? If you haven't, you really should, it will give you an idea of what TourGuide is really going to be like once we're done with all the chapters.

I don't know what else to tell you to convince you, TourGuide is a great addon and once you get used to the "icon code" (which is even simplier than the color code I use for my paper guides), you'll see how easy it is to follow it. I don't understand how you could prefer to go back to QuestHelper, which is not half as quick in terms of leveling speed, falls over dead whenever someone uploaded a wrong loc to the database and doesn't contain any of the important infos to finish the more tricky quests.

I'll give it another go

Submitted by Canadian87 on Fri, 2009-02-06 05:17.

I'll try tourguide again, after I'm done the Grizzly Hills quest with the original WoW-Pro Addon, I remember one big issue I had with the switch was that I had already gotten 91 steps into the WoW-Pro Custom version, and then couldn't figure out how to get TourGuide to be on the same page, if you know what I mean...

I might have to look into somehow recreating the original WoW-Pro for myself, because I love it so much.

If tomtom is giving you trouble, you may want to try Cartographer. Yes, it's a much bigger addon but it has nice features in and of itself, and I have never had problems with it or it's arrow breaking. Just something else you may want to try Smiling

Submitted by Jame on Thu, 2009-02-05 00:29.

Sorry, it won't be happening. Sad

It's already a huge amount of work to keep one addon updated and to make it perfect. Trust me, TourGuide is a better addon, you just have to wait till every chapter is finished and you'll see the quality for yourself.

The TomTom "breaking" on you has nothing to do with the TourGuide addon though, it's something I've never heard of before. Could you be more specific? Did you install LightHeaded as well?

I felt I had to make a new account to reply to this. I feel for Jame, because people often ask too much of him.

see the top of the page and you will see that Jame has NOT MADE a desolace guide yet. Those are the default guides that come with the addon. (and yes, I agree, that quest is aweful. I cannot wait for more of jame's guides to be released for tourguide, as I'm loving it already.)

Im so glad that you decided to use tourguide Jame! Im leveling SO much faster using the guides youve put on so far, and cant wait for the lower level guides!!!
