People have been waiting for years to get my leveling guides in an addon format. And finally here it is.

Our addon will be based on the TourGuide addon, written by Tekkub.

  • Alliance: Updated patch 3.3 11/02/2010 [Download]
  • Horde: Updated patch 3.3 11/02/2010 [Download]

Keep in mind that not all chapters have been done yet and that's it's a work in progress, so please have patience. And feel free to contribute!

Leveling Speed

Follow Jame's and Jiyambi's blogs to find out how fast you can level with the addon:

Alliance

The Adventures of Holyjame - Chapter 1
The Adventures of Holyjame - Chapter 2
The Adventures of Holyjame - Chapter 3

Horde

The Adventures of Mokrana - Chapter 1
The Adventures of Mokrana - Chapter 2
The Adventures of Mokrana - Chapter 3

Enjoy!

7th February Update

The leveling addon is turning out to be even more amazing than what I imagined. I'm testing the leveling speed of the addon with a new character I created (a human paladin I called Holyjame).

So far, he's Level 30 with only 19 hours /played !!!

This is done WITHOUT any twinking and WITHOUT any rested EXP bonus. Follow Holyjame's Progress every week on my blog .

Your guides are excellents,

Submitted by kevinwhalen on Wed, 2010-08-11 03:52.

Your guides are excellents, that's a fact.
But when i create a toon, and let him play with full rest and full heirloom, i have to drop 50% to 66% of them, because things start to turn grey : heirloom + rest = incredible amount of xp with no effort.
So, i think a faster way of leveling is possible.

But i was not aware than total beginners made their way here too. And so, guides "with no help" seem more important to me now than guides "with heirloom and rest".

Keep up the good work Smiling

Submitted by Manovan on Wed, 2010-08-11 07:35.

The guides were initially tuned for playing before the first time Blizzard sped up the leveling experience with TBC. And heirlooms just messed things up even more. Just ignore some quests when they turn green or grey and live with the fact that you'll be quite a few levels in advance until Cataclysm comes out and all the new guides are out. Personally I tend to use the dungeon finder as well when I level up, making me drop up to 70% of the quests. It's not as fun as before, but neither is WoW.

probably stoopid noob question

Submitted by nimuwe on Wed, 2010-03-03 03:58.

HI Smiling If you die in sunken temple, then how can you get back into the instance, since it seems you cannot swim when you are dead. Sad and we need to swim underwater to get into the temple. tried but when you get to the water part it is like hitting a wall and cannot get under.

I know there must be an obvious answer but after googling and searching everywhere i cannot find how to do it.
thanks for any help.

You can swin under water while dead!

Submitted by Souricette on Wed, 2010-03-03 13:18.

Hello nimuwe.

You can swim under water while dead, by using the mouse. You can swim under water by using the mouse alive too Smiling

Just right-click on your mouse, maintain the button pressed, and rotate your character so that it faces your feet - and walk (using your keyboard key or by clicking both buttons of your mouse). That's done, you are under water!

In general, it is a better choice to use your mouse to do your moves instead of the keyboard - it may be a little tricky at the beginning to master it, but later it will be very helpful in many conditions!

Good swim,
Souricette

Souricette-THANK YOU so much.
I always use my mouse for everything, but my hubby is using a laptop (touch pad) and it was he who had the problem getting back into sunken temple after dying. I can't remember encountering that problem so using the mouse advice is spot on.

Hope you'll continue to post updates. It was a sad day when I finished your Alliance Grizzly Hills section and had to go reinstall Quest Helper.

Submitted by JamesL85 on Thu, 2010-02-18 16:27.

I can't blame Tekkub for selling the rights to TourGuide. He puts a lot of work into what he does and probably doesn't get a lot of donations. On the other hand, that kind of leaves us out in the cold if TourGuide will no longer be updated unless we buy it from Zygor? I'm going to keep watching that post to see what they have in store.

completed ingame quests

Submitted by newty on Fri, 2009-12-04 12:42.

First of all, thank you for bringing all the information on this into a single addon ! *bows deeply*

Second, i was wondering if there is a way to 'remember' the quests you've done when logging on to a different computer.

The following.. When i'v been playing on the desktop, the wife comes home we eat and i grab my latop to sit on the couch and play WoW with ofcourse this great addon.
The moment i log on to the laptop i have to single-handedly selected all the quests i've just been through on the desktop to get to the quest where i was.

I've been trying to do the following:
- desktop >> copy tourguide.lua >> laptop "saved variables" directory

Result is, i ended up with and empty 'no guide selected' message Eye

Hopefull this little story clarifies one another a bit Smiling

Is there a way to make this work, rather than copying and playing wow on an external HD or am i missing something ?

Kind regards

Submitted by newty on Tue, 2009-12-08 12:12.

Just wanted to share the answer with you all. Eye

Before you start it never hurts to make backups Eye

1. Close WoW

2. For instance, if you're on the laptop. Copy X:\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\\SavedVariables\TourGuide.lua
onto e.g. a usb flashdrive or email it to yourself. (Where 'X' is the drive letter you've installed WoW).

3. Fire up the desktop, plug in the flashdrive and copy the 'TourGuide.lua' to X:\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\\SavedVariables\TourGuide.lua

4. Start WoW and you'll notice that you can continue Jame's guide without having to click every quest which you've just done already on the other pc.

Submitted by Jiyambi on Wed, 2009-11-18 17:57.

Hmmm, unless you are using Scoot's addon guides, I am a little worried that you have actually not been using our guides with the addon. WoW-Pro doesn't have any officially guides past Grizzly Hills. So I think you may have been using the default tour guide guides.

All of our guides say "WoW-Pro" in the title. But maybe you already knew this and were just using the tour guide ones to fill in the holes!

As to your question, Jame has been pretty busy in RL lately and hasn't been writing guides. It's possible he'll get some done before the expansion hits, but its more likely that, if he does come back to guide writing, we'll only see Cataclysm guides for a while.

Either that or you have some serious skills (even though they fail since
I most definately am using the WoW-pro guides) in distance-mind-reading since
you can by no means draw that conclusion from what I wrote...

Anyway, the last part answered my question good enough so I am satisfied for now.

Submitted by babylanehyk on Mon, 2009-11-30 17:33.

This is a lua file, it is impossible for it to hack you. If you are using an auto-downloader or opening .exe files, that can possibly compromise your computer. Somehow a keylogger made it's way onto your system. However, the lua file downloaded from this site cannot do anything outside of wow (after you've already entered your password) so there is no way it could have hacked you.

I suggest getting some anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, and also getting an authenticator, to help prevent these type of issues.

Auto-check?

Submitted by sgtforlive on Fri, 2009-09-25 15:03.

Hey!

I really like this AddOn, use it to level all my alts. However, whenever I accept a quest, it also checks turning it in & the progress (for example: kill mob x at location y). This way I cant use the arrows...which is very annoying and basically takes out the use of the AddOn. Anyone know a way to fix this?

Thank you in advance

This happens because you are

Submitted by Jiyambi on Fri, 2009-09-25 21:55.

This happens because you are checking off a step you have no actually done yet. Tour Guide gets really confused when you do this, and checks off the follow ups to it as well, assuming that since the quest is not in your log, you must already have done it. If this is NOT the case, please let me know if there is a specific quest giving you trouble or is it all of them?

Basically, try being sure to allow Tour Guide to automatically check off the quest accept step after you get the quest, rather than checking it off yourself. If it still is doing what you describe, or doesn't automatically check off the accept quest, it means there is either something wrong with the coding or you are somehow accepting the wrong quest (perhaps the wrong step in a chain). Please give us some more details about what's going on and I'll do my best to help Smiling

In this case, I accepted the quest ''Mudrock Soup and Bugs'' in Dustwallow Marsh 38-40 (Alliance), however the progress has already been checked, even though I am steps ahaid of that phase of the guide. When I scroll down I see that 2 other quests, and this one, I am on now as well are also already turned in..even though thats near to te actual end of the guide.

Submitted by Jiyambi on Sat, 2009-09-26 11:47.

Hmm, unfortunately I'm not very familiar with the guides and/or coding on the Alliance side. Has it done this with other quests, or are these three the only problems? My advice for now would be to try uncheck the completed steps, and if that doesn't work just be extra careful to open the guide and complete each step for this section. It *shouldn't* be doing this as long as you are allowing it to auto-complete the quest accept steps, and hopefully the next section of guide will not exhibit this issue. Sorry I don't have more helpful advice Sad

Submitted by solitha on Tue, 2010-01-05 08:52.

A possible reason for this...

Many quests in the guide are tagged (part 1) (part 2) etc, which isn't recognized as the quest name. So you pick up a quest, it doesn't quite match up log vs guide, and perhaps...

Just a thought. I'm not sure if that's the reason or not. I just had it happening with what's listed as Rise of the Silithid (final) in the Alliance Azshara 51-52 chapter.

Well, maybe this does not belong to this page, but I've recently started a Dreanei, and I'm going through Snowflake's Guide 1-12, and so on to Sven's 13-20 Guide, etc.

So far, I'm level 12 with 3 hours 40 minutes /played!!
Things that could be reason to why I was 'behind' Holyjame's leveling speed where:

  • I'm a hunter - The Pet class quest did take some time.
  • A waypoint were bugged, it telled me to go through the whole land, when the quest giver was very close to me - I wasted 15 minutes there.

I will start working on Sven's guide today Smiling

Addon co-ords

Submitted by Djinnie on Tue, 2009-09-08 22:19.

Great addon and an excelent guide loving it Laughing out loud

(6days /played at level 70 with my new Enhancement Shaman)

Just like to point out... that for the Thassarian quests in Borean Tundra, the arrow points you to the wrong place... while the lightheaded co-ordinates appear to be correct...

Also seems the co-ords for a few quest starters are missing.... so far i've just had to click them as checked and move onto the next one hoping that they're not part of a big chain.... (XP hasn't really been a problem due to this... although I suspect having 20% increased XP from BoA gear might be helping there)

Jame,
I've addicted to leveling, and so far have 2 80's, several 70's, and I just started a new hunter a couple of weeks ago. I've been using one of the more popular leveling guides (which isn't free), and I was getting tired of the repetition, so I decided to install your addon guide, and I can't tell you how angry I am that I wasted money on the paid guide. Yours is SO MUCH BETTER! It's so simple to set up, and all the quest stacking makes sense and is easy to follow. The toon I'm currently working on with your guide is lvl 62, and I've been getting 200K experience/hour! Really amazing work. Thanks so much for putting in all the time and effort.

You rock!

P.S. I created this account solely to let you (and everyone else) know that your guides are simply the best. Thanks again!
