Revision of WoW-Pro Addon from Sat, 2010-11-13 08:16

Ludovicus_Maior's picture

WoW-Pro is pleased to present it's brand new, custom coded addon! In the future this addon will be able to bring all of our awesome guides into the game, but for now it is only compatible with leveling guides.

The addon is designed to provide easy, streamlined questing and leveling in a completely customizable package.

More details about the new addon and awesome screenshots after the break.

You can download our addon from:

The WoW-Pro addon currently REQUIRES TomTom (download here) in order to work properly.

INTERIM USE ONLY: Our addon will now pull coordinates from Lightheaded if none are provided. All coordinates WILL be provided in the future.

Automatic detection of objective completion:

  • Detect quest accept, completion and turn-in
  • Detect travel (in any form)
  • Detection of flight point discovery
  • Detection of Hearth point change
  • Conditionals based on player's class, race, completed quests, and item possession

Completely customizable frame:

  • Size can be changed to display many steps or only one
  • Step explanations can be displayed always or only show on hover over
  • Text can be customized: font, color, and size can be changed
  • Spacing and padding of the guide window can be customized.
  • Border and background texture can be changed or removed
  • Background color can be changed
  • Titlebar displaying zone and progress can be removed

Other awesome features:

  • Integrated quest tracker (can be disabled if desired)
  • Integrated quest item buttons
  • Easily accessed view of entire guide
  • Sortable guide lists
  • Automatic mapping of coordinates with TomTom
  • LDB quick open/close button
  • Profile management for display settings
  • Supports step skipping (the guide knows the difference between a skipped step and a completed step)

Sort-able Guide List

Current Version: 1.7.0

NOTE: This addon is still in a heavy development stage. It is recommended that you delete the WoWPro.lua file in your WTF folder when upgrading to the new version. However, this will result in the loss of manually checked off guide progress and display settings.

New Features

  • Several guide files have been updated
  • Keybindings added!
  • Custom print function tells you when it’s our addon talking to you

Bug Fixes:

  • Serious crash issue related to quest items fixed!
  • Issue related to getting quest objectives fixed
  • Issue related to getting quest entries from the log fixed
  • Taint issues introduced by checking party members fixed
  • Addon now checks if item exists before attempting to set it as a use item.

Known Issues:

  • Unable to check off item - the step probably doesn't have a QID, which means it's a mistake in the guide file. There are sadly still a lot of these around. Try right-clicking the check box, or listing it as sticky. We'll fix these as they find them but we have to be focused more on Cataclysm guides right now. Sorry!
  • Profession Quest Error: Profession-specific quests currently cause the guide to throw an error, because of the changes to the profession window. Will be fixed in the next version!
  • Occasional crash/DC - the addon is causing occasional crashes and DCs. We are working to find the source of this issue - please report any occurrences of this so we can determine the problem! It may have to do with conflicting addons, so if you do experience this problem, try disabling other addons and see if that allows you to continue.

How To Help:

If you'd like to help code, update, or test guide files, head over to our How To Contribute page on gitthub!

Though this addon is now in it's release stage, it's still new. There may be bugs. The best place to report them is on github, but I will respond here as often as I can. Thanks!

Possible Future Features:

  1. Animation for checking off steps (a check mark appears, old quest fades out, other quests move up).
  2. Either integration of the arrow, or permission from TomTom's author to redistribute their addon, maintaining the author's name and the addon's original name (basically leaving the addon untouched).
  3. Support for area vs. patrol vs. player run path type coordinates.
  4. Auto-load a guide based on level
  5. A separate "shopping list" frame which can be opened with a button on the title bar, used for a couple things in the leveling guide but which will get the most use for profession guides.
  6. Improved logic/display for multi-objective steps. Not exactly sure how this would work, but perhaps have "substeps" which are displayed together, and checked off as they are completed.

Possible Future Modules:

  • WoW-Pro Talents - Easy talent recommendations while leveling, for all specs. Possibly include rotation suggestions as well. For players jumping in partway through, it should be able to detect their current talent changes and adjust accordingly, or recommend a respec if the talents are too messed up. Talents should be prioritized to make sure people pick up the most vital ones. Recommendations of glyphs would also be nice.
  • WoW-Pro Dungeons - Guides to dungeons. Easy access while leveling, recommended dungeons for your level and gear. Include gear lists, etc. Step by step guides, preferably with pictures, includes boss kill strategies.
  • WoW-Pro Gold Making - Daily quests, gathering/farming circuits, perhaps even auctioneer advice.
  • WoW-Pro Reputation - Reputation guides created using the addon.
  • WoW-Pro Holiday - Holiday guides created using the addon.
  • WoW-Pro Achievements - Other achievement guides.
  • WoW-Pro Professions - Profession and tradeskill guides.

Possible Future Modules:
If I missed you or you think you should be included somewhere else on this list, please let me know! I'm very forgetful!

Re: Bug Report

Are you sure you are doing the shattered sun dailies?  Those errors are from the Leveling module.

Also, it looks like the install of 2.4.3 did take, as the version number does not have an "A" in it.

2.4.3A Bug Report

I'm playing on Russian servers, most of addon steps are "????????????????????" marked, can't make out what to do.

It seems that only hard-written steps are normaly displayed in english, others that are scanning my quest progress are question marks ex.

"Kill any Swoops you see.

The last lines should be the name of the monster you need to kill or the items you need to collect for the quest, the addon gets those directly from your gamedata. The problem with your gamedata is that it is written in cyrillic, which this addon doesn't support. To be honest, one could say that this addon doesn't fully support any other language besides english, since the guides are not translated when your game client has another language.

GetLootTrackingInfo (Version 2.4.3A is baaaad)

Version 2.4.3 was bad.  Please try 2.4.3A!!!

Version 2.4.3

I just installed 2.4.3 and I was questing in Badlands and noticed that the arrow wasn't updating. On the previous version I could right click on the quest in the wow pro addon and hit map coordinates and it would normally update the map and go to it. However, I noticed in the new version when I try to tell it to map coordinates it turns yellow instead of bringing the menu up.

Was the map coordinates feature removed? ;( It was very useful.

Thanks for the great addon.

first of all...congratulations on a great piece of software, commend you for the hard work all of you have to pull this together!!

and now...for the next set of compliments.. ahaahahah

the pack is much less memory hogger than other known packs... ( dugi or zygor) has the latest dailies guides (congrats on that too) and it's really simple to work with and full of simplicity, althoug i just leave one tiny suggestion...don't know if this is the right place the "quest list" it possible to add an option to the list orientation..if some of us want to put the frame in the lower part of the it possible that the quests show from bottom to top, besides the normal orientation from top to bottom?

Grow upwards?

Thats an interesting idea.  I can't comment on the feasibility or likliness of such a thing.  But as a suggestion to accomplish your goal.  I have lately gone back to playing with only one step visable. (the way the addon used to work forever ago) and I think I actually like it better (at least for dailies -- that way I don't see the steps that are 1 or more beyond my current objective that the guide will skip when they become the next available step).  It means you have to check off sticky steps as you read them and remember them in your head rather than on the screen to remind you, but other than that it does work very smooth.  If it was only showing one step, the grow up option wouldn't be as important.

Grow upwards: Anchor Point

It used to be you could get the addon to grow upward if you set the anchor point as one of the three bottom points (lower left, center, or right). I don't know if this is still an option, but that's how I coded it way back in the day. Hope that helps!

Waypoints won't clear

Waypoints set by the WoW-Pro leveling addon don't clear for me when reaching them. This is especially annoying when there is a series of waypoints to show me the way to a location. First I suspected TomTom to be the culprit and reported a bug there but it seems the bug is at least related to your addon. For details, please see my report at (I didn't open the ticket but commented on it, name is spuddelkopf.)

I hope the right people see

I hope the right people see this post and it helps shed some light. The last version of TT that had the waypoints working correctly was 50001-1.0.4. I have a copy of this that I make sure stays installed so Wow-Pro will work. I have not run into any other issues that may have been fixed in later versions of TT.

I hope you can track down and fix the problem so I can keep my TT up to date.

WP & TT still not working

This is still a problem for me using WP 2.4.1 and latest TT v50100-1.0.1.  If I back off to TT v50001-1.0.4 then it works fine.  Good workaround but was hoping for a fix.

Ludo - waypoint checkoff issues

Hey Ludo, just tagging you by name and hoping we might get an answer for this one. Is this what your multiple waypoint post is about? If not, is there any chance this could be looked into? It's very irritating, as the above posters mention. Makes all those lovely multiple coord C steps really inconvenient >_< Grrr @ Cladhaire for changing TomTom and breaking this behaviour.

Ludovicus_Maior's picture

Re: Ludo - waypoint checkoff issues

Actually., it is not TomTom's fault.

The original problem occurred when I made a fix for Carbonite compatability which broke our custom callback handler. This meant that all of a sudden, multiple waypoints "worked" for all step types instead of just r|R|N steps using the default TomTom waypoint deletion.

Then people wrote or tweaked guides over the course of more than a year that dependend on that behaviour.

Then I went off and "fixed"  our callback handler and then all of a sudden our addons were telling TomTom not to get rid of the waypoints because there were in many cases no CS or CC tags.

Hence, my blog posting:  CS, CC, and CN tags missing; help needed

I have delayed making the next release until I can catch the bulk of those errors and add the missing tags.

Jiyambi's picture

Ah, thanks for the

Ah, thanks for the explanation, I have so much catch-up to do in terms of knowing what's going on with the addon these days :) So, long story short, it's fixed but we need to add those tags to everything?

Ludovicus_Maior's picture

Re: Ah, thanks for the

Yup!  They are now added everywhere.   Some of the logic needed touching up and I have been testing for the past few days.

All I have found were CN tags that should have been CS or CC tags.

Arrows won't show.

Been using this great add-on since it was first created and have loved it. Recently been having issues with it, though. Since I updated to the latest versions of WoW-Pro and TomTom the arrow doesn't appear for any steps in the Dragonblight Alliance guide(seems to be working if I switch to Howling Fjord so is a big ? for me. I try to make it map the co-ords, but no arrow will show. Any idea what can be done to fix it?

Emmaleah's picture

This is an error due to the map lawer of Dragon Soul that is also called Dragonblight.  The kludgy fix is to open your dragonblight guide (with a text editor such as wordpad) and change where it says Dragonblight in the header to 488.

alliance is found at:

\\...<your wow directory>\interface\addons\WoWPro_Leveling\Alliance\74_75_Jame_Dragonblight.lua

change this:

  • WoWPro.Leveling:RegisterGuide("JamDra7475", "488", "Jame", "74", "75", "JamGriA7577", "Alliance", function()

horde is found at:

\\...<your wow directory>\interface\addons\WoWPro_Leveling\Horde\73_75_Jame_Dragonblight.lua

change this:

  • WoWPro.Leveling:RegisterGuide("JamDra7375", "488", "Jame", "73", "75", "JamGriH7577", "Horde", function()

Sorry I can't offer a proper fix, but that will get you going again until someone can.  This will mean that the guide will show a title of 488 in the guide list and in the guide frame, but it will now map right ;)

Re: Hi map still not working for dragonblight

OK.  So I took my L62 Belf DK out to Northrend, flew to Dalaran, fell out of the sewer, and then rezzed and rode all the way to dragonblight to test this.   I loaded the Dragonblight guide and I did get an arrow, but it was pointing in the wrong direction!

Turns out I had an entra line in the map file that put the map on the wrong "floor".

Please download the developer version from and try it out.

If it does not work for you, please type "/tway list" in your chat window and post the output here.

Un'Goro guide

Currently, the Un' Goro crater guide shows only the first 2 steps. I deleted the addon folders and downloaded a fresh copy. I also deleted the wow-pro configuration files for my character in the WTF folder, but after all that it still only has 2 steps. The character I'm attempting to use it on is alliance, if that makes any difference. Is this guide incomplete or is it an issue with the addon?

JamesL85's picture

If you right click the header for the addon, there's a dropdown menu.  I think one of the options is something like This Guide, or something similar.  Click on that and it will show you all the steps in the current guide.  Are they all checked off or are there just 2 steps listed?  I looked at 2.3.5 and Un'Goro has a ton of steps.  Just trying to narrow down the issue.

Not just un'goro

I tried again tonight with Hellfire Ppeninsula, and it's only showing the 1st step so I think it is a larger issue and not the specific guide. I tried again after deleting the folders and settings and reinstalling a fresh copy but I'm still having the issue. Listing the current guide in the settings after I reset it only shows the first step (HFP guid, in this inscance) and when I chcked off the step I got the following exception: (hope this helps)

Re: Not just un'goro

I don't know WTF is going on, but I will put code in to print out a better error message.

Please try with tomorrow's version.

Error message

The fist few lines give the actual error. The rest of it is just a list of all my installed addons at the time the error occured. I included the whole message just in case it was a conflict with one of my other addons that you guys might already be aware of.

RE: Lucky Dragon's Error

Any chance to try the new version yet?

First question, does Wow-Pro show up when you click on the addons button at the character selection screen?

major problem

my guides seem to be missing alot now since the updat not to mention cant access some of them i try to load up the valley of the four winds guide but it doesnt load up  and the southern barrens is not complete anymore

Emmaleah's picture

where did you get the update

Did you update off of curse? It only includes the first few guides.

Check what version of the addon you are using, if its not the current (2.3.5 for a day or so longer) get the current version.  Then post back what precisely you see that causes you to think it isn't working.  I.E. the first spot that seems wrong. Race/faction and particular guide helps.

Ok, I stand corrected. The

Ok, I stand corrected. The problem is not just with human starter. It's widespread. Waypoints are broken accross the board. Kinda makes the addon unusable for the time being. :(

Human starter slightly outdated and broken

Ok, so my main is a undead demo warlock on Draenor (EU) but I decided to give a human pally a go a sec ago and noticed a couple of issues. The biggest being the fact that waypoints are completely broken. Each step directs to the same place which is not where you need to be.

An adictional issue would be the fact the guide's a little outdated when it comes to class specific quests. I can wait for fixes. Decided to roll the pally as Dranei instead now anyways.

thank you for the guides + issue

I used the addon in pandaria and it worked great, thank you. But I'm running into problems using the World Events addon for the Hallow's End candy bucket locations. I've tried disabling all addons except tomtom but whenever I enter a new zone (or even new area with a zone), wow freezes. I have to force quit and then restart. Not sure what's up since the general addon for leveling works fine. Any chance this could be fixed? I'd really love to be able to use this addon to hit all the buckets...makes it so much faster than making my own macros to use with tomtom. Thanks in advance for any help!

Experience Same

I am experiencing the same issue.  From reading other forums, I believe it has to do with the Cross Realm zones.    Whenever I fly into new, low populated zones and land, WOW freezes 20 to 30 seconds.  If i disable all addons except Wow-Pro, it freezes everytime i switch zones.  If i enable all my addons EXCEPT Wow-Pro, this freeze only lasts for about 1 to 2 seconds.  Reading through the blizzard forums has lead me to believe it has to do with the Cross-Realm Zones that was added in MOP.   I hope that helps with your troubleshooting.

Re: thank you for the guides + issue

OK.  I'm not seeing the same problem.  I am running my Belf DK through the first parts of the Eastern KIngdom and had no problems.Though we are missing the new buckets for Pandaria.

What version of the addon and TomTom are you using?

If you are not getting crashes and are locking up, then try typing "/run WoWPro.DebugMode = true" in the chat window to enable debugging and either send us the screenshot or handcopy the text in the window.

CRZ causing Lag?

I saw that recount released a new version yesterday (11/8) and in the change log they said they were delaying some calculations that they normally perform after zoning to help with the CRZ lag after changing zones.  I was wondering if there is anything like that that may help with Wow-pro?  While its CRZ causing the lag, I think Wow-pro may be exacerbating it.

hey, thanks for the fast

hey, thanks for the fast response :)

I'm using the latest version of tomtom, v50001-1.2.1. Also I didn't mention that this is happening in Northrend. I haven't used the guide anywhere else so I'll hop on in a sec and see if it happens when I'm in kalimdor or eastern kingdoms. I'll try the debug as well, thanks.

also just realizing that I *may* not have the most up-to-date addon? I just looked at my curse client and it had 'modified' next to its status. So I right clicked to update and it dl'd files but when I look at the change log it says its the trial version? I dunno if I dl'd the addon here or via curse. hm, confusing myself now. Maybe I'll just delete entirely and re-dl the addon from here.

EDIT: Ok my bad, as you were, I didn't have the latest update of the addon installed. /facepalm! It didn't come up as an update in my curse client but then, yeah, I think I manually dl'd here anyway so it wouldn't have. Got the latest now and I think its working ok. Thanks anyway for your help! Again, tysvm for the guide. Infinitly helpful greatness :))

Quest: A Line Unbroken ** Shiya's location incorrect

Love the addon, thanks for all you do.  My contribution:

Quest: A Line Unbroken

Objective: Shiya Boldblade Released From her Oath

Location: 30.0 64.3

It has location swapped with another of the guys, don't remember which.  Sorry.

A Line Unbroken - Kun Lai(N)

Thank you for reporting things that are unclear.  In the future it is helpful to include Zone and Faction.

While, technically it isn't wrong. but I probably should change it.  I intentionally only mapped to one of the 3 locations.  Originally I had the 3 spots with thier own dots (and thier own individual lines.  Then I changed it (and thought I changed the note also to tell people) to rely on the gear symbol Bliz put on the minimpa.  Then later, I went thru the MOP guides and mostly removed relying on Blizz's minimpa icons. (because it occured to me, people may have them turned off)

A big thank you!

Just allow me to express my sincerest gratitude to all community members involved in maintaining this addon and all guides assosiated with it. I checked out a paid questing guide addon earlier (shan't name names) and for the basic levelling guide it was £30! (or $45). That is around as much as I paid for the MoP expansion! Nearly four months worth of game time!!

WoW-Pro guides continue to be 100% free and while updates are not always on the ball for a free guide it is still fantastic. I managed to get my main (an Undead Warlock named Ochmech on the Draenor-EU server) to 90 in not too much time using the addon/guides. And that was without heirlooms or the likes. Also got a shammy alt to lvl 60. Some of the recent guides haven't been perfect and the addon can still be buggy at times but no one gets paid for the work they put into the addon/guides. Considering that, I am eternally greatful for the wow-pro questing/levelling guide and I don't know what I would have done without it.

Ludovicous: I updated:  Jade

I updated:

 Jade Forest Alli/Horde

Krasarang Alli/Horde

Valley of the Four Winds

Kun-Lai Summit

this morning to my github.  Hopefully before you do (did?) your intended update for today.

Mainly the purpose was to add in all the grey items you loot for random gold/xp.  I didnt realize until recently that they give XP too, so I figure they should be in here (one I looted gave over 500K XP). There were of course a few other changes as well, there always is.

I will add them to Townlong when I get there again (hopefully next week) It appears there arent any of these in Dread Wastes.  At least no one has found any yet.

Here they are, but I havent looked for the right spot in the guide to add them, (if you should happen to feel like it.)

l Amber Encased Moth|L|86472|M|65.79,86.02|N|grey item, loot for XP and gold, among the tree roots.| (while on the quest in ambermarsh to gather volatile orbs from the agitated nettleskins)

l Fragment of Dread|L|85516|M|55.55,65.02|N|grey item, loot for XP and gold, lying on a shelf of rock.| (while you are in Niuzao Catacombs killing sha's )

l Hardened Sap of Kiri'vess|L|85516|M|57.4,56.6|N|grey item, loot for XP and gold, lying between tree roots.|
