Revision of WoW-Pro Addon from Sat, 2010-11-13 08:16

Ludovicus_Maior's picture

WoW-Pro is pleased to present it's brand new, custom coded addon! In the future this addon will be able to bring all of our awesome guides into the game, but for now it is only compatible with leveling guides.

The addon is designed to provide easy, streamlined questing and leveling in a completely customizable package.

More details about the new addon and awesome screenshots after the break.

You can download our addon from:

The WoW-Pro addon currently REQUIRES TomTom (download here) in order to work properly.

INTERIM USE ONLY: Our addon will now pull coordinates from Lightheaded if none are provided. All coordinates WILL be provided in the future.

Automatic detection of objective completion:

  • Detect quest accept, completion and turn-in
  • Detect travel (in any form)
  • Detection of flight point discovery
  • Detection of Hearth point change
  • Conditionals based on player's class, race, completed quests, and item possession

Completely customizable frame:

  • Size can be changed to display many steps or only one
  • Step explanations can be displayed always or only show on hover over
  • Text can be customized: font, color, and size can be changed
  • Spacing and padding of the guide window can be customized.
  • Border and background texture can be changed or removed
  • Background color can be changed
  • Titlebar displaying zone and progress can be removed

Other awesome features:

  • Integrated quest tracker (can be disabled if desired)
  • Integrated quest item buttons
  • Easily accessed view of entire guide
  • Sortable guide lists
  • Automatic mapping of coordinates with TomTom
  • LDB quick open/close button
  • Profile management for display settings
  • Supports step skipping (the guide knows the difference between a skipped step and a completed step)

Current Version: 1.7.0

NOTE: This addon is still in a heavy development stage. It is recommended that you delete the WoWPro.lua file in your WTF folder when upgrading to the new version. However, this will result in the loss of manually checked off guide progress and display settings.

New Features

  • Several guide files have been updated
  • Keybindings added!
  • Custom print function tells you when it’s our addon talking to you

Bug Fixes:

  • Serious crash issue related to quest items fixed!
  • Issue related to getting quest objectives fixed
  • Issue related to getting quest entries from the log fixed
  • Taint issues introduced by checking party members fixed
  • Addon now checks if item exists before attempting to set it as a use item.

Known Issues:

  • Unable to check off item - the step probably doesn't have a QID, which means it's a mistake in the guide file. There are sadly still a lot of these around. Try right-clicking the check box, or listing it as sticky. We'll fix these as they find them but we have to be focused more on Cataclysm guides right now. Sorry!
  • Profession Quest Error: Profession-specific quests currently cause the guide to throw an error, because of the changes to the profession window. Will be fixed in the next version!
  • Occasional crash/DC - the addon is causing occasional crashes and DCs. We are working to find the source of this issue - please report any occurrences of this so we can determine the problem! It may have to do with conflicting addons, so if you do experience this problem, try disabling other addons and see if that allows you to continue.

How To Help:

If you'd like to help code, update, or test guide files, head over to our How To Contribute page on gitthub!

Though this addon is now in it's release stage, it's still new. There may be bugs. The best place to report them is on github, but I will respond here as often as I can. Thanks!

Possible Future Features:

  1. Animation for checking off steps (a check mark appears, old quest fades out, other quests move up).
  2. Either integration of the arrow, or permission from TomTom's author to redistribute their addon, maintaining the author's name and the addon's original name (basically leaving the addon untouched).
  3. Support for area vs. patrol vs. player run path type coordinates.
  4. Auto-load a guide based on level
  5. A separate "shopping list" frame which can be opened with a button on the title bar, used for a couple things in the leveling guide but which will get the most use for profession guides.
  6. Improved logic/display for multi-objective steps. Not exactly sure how this would work, but perhaps have "substeps" which are displayed together, and checked off as they are completed.

Possible Future Modules:

  • WoW-Pro Talents - Easy talent recommendations while leveling, for all specs. Possibly include rotation suggestions as well. For players jumping in partway through, it should be able to detect their current talent changes and adjust accordingly, or recommend a respec if the talents are too messed up. Talents should be prioritized to make sure people pick up the most vital ones. Recommendations of glyphs would also be nice.
  • WoW-Pro Dungeons - Guides to dungeons. Easy access while leveling, recommended dungeons for your level and gear. Include gear lists, etc. Step by step guides, preferably with pictures, includes boss kill strategies.
  • WoW-Pro Gold Making - Daily quests, gathering/farming circuits, perhaps even auctioneer advice.
  • WoW-Pro Reputation - Reputation guides created using the addon.
  • WoW-Pro Holiday - Holiday guides created using the addon.
  • WoW-Pro Achievements - Other achievement guides.
  • WoW-Pro Professions - Profession and tradeskill guides.

Possible Future Modules:
If I missed you or you think you should be included somewhere else on this list, please let me know! I'm very forgetful!

Hey it happens to the best of us. Guess I better redownload it myself then. Wanted to say I find this to be a must have for me and it's made my questing days enjoyable. Keep up the excellent work! Thanks for fixing it!

Download Link Not Working

I just get redirected to a page that says "404 - This is not the web page you are looking for"

The correct link :D

Though I'm sure the download button will be updated soon to reflect the correction.Found it through locating Jiyambi through github's user search function.Enjoy!

Ludovicus_Maior's picture

The link was RIGHT, the file uploaded was wrong.

That file was made up with the wrong version number in the name and contents.

I uploaded a file with corrected name and contents.

No worries thanks for the

No worries thanks for the great addon!

Starting guide half way through

I've just downloaded your guide but I'm half way through a zone. The addon's picked up the quests I've got currently, but is directing me to a quest I've already done. Yes, I know I can mark it as completed, but I don't remember all of them!

There's an addon called quest completist that can poll the server to see which quests have been completed. It would be great if you could incorporate that, so a new user like me could jump into a guide half way through.

Ludovicus_Maior's picture

Quests already done ,,,

Hmm.  The addon does query the server to find out what quests have been done so that should not happen, unless Blizzard has changed the quest IDs on us again.

What Zone, Faction, and quest did you notice this on?

Did you try resetting the guide?

Dependency Missing

Sounds like there's a problem with something in the Wow-Pro formula, probably a corrupted or missing file. Try deleting the folder, redownloading the addon, and installing a fresh copy.

I have to agree with the person who commented that the captcha system here basically sucks.

Dependency Missing

So no matter what I do with installation of this addon (extract then copy and paste, direct extraction. I've deleted the SavedVariables, the WTF folder WoWPro portions) when I log in to WoW it says that there are dependencies missing. The WoWPro addon doesnt show up on my addon list, only the dailies and profession modules.

PLEASE HELP!! It's driving me nuts

Hitchikers advice: DON'T PANIC

Before you log in, click on the addons button on the bottom of your character screen.

Scroll down to the section that lists Wow-Pro and each of the other WoWPro addons.

Put your mouse over them, and you should get a nice descriptive text window and/or a warning about a missing depenency.Take a picture of your screen and send us a link to it!

Alternatively, if the missing depency message shows up in your char window, please copy the message and post it here.It should say *what* is missing.   Then I can help!

Thanks a lot!

The advices I found here were  good enough to answer my questions about the game! Now I have found a good reason to stay way from ink and toner  from time to time. Thanks a lot guys!

The two addons listed in the

The two addons listed in the in-game folder are WoWPro Professions and WowPro World Events. IN the addons folder, however, there are WowPro, WowPro Leveling, WowPro Professions, WowPro Dailies and Wow Pro Events. The dependency missing when mouse over'd is WoWPro, but it's in the addon folder!

I had uninstalled WoW a few months ago and reinstalled recently and now the addon doesnt work. It had worked great previously.

I am having the same problem.

I am having the same problem. Did you find a fix to it? I have redownloaded it maybe 7 times, and its the same every time.

Hellfire Peninsula section (A): Digging for Prayer Beads

Guide says to just go to the map location and loot, but Blizzard has since fixed the quest so that the loot item doesn't spawn unless you do the quest as intended. Guide needs to be updated to reflect this.

BTW: your catchpa system is horrible... took me more than 10 tries to get one that I could read

Video Walkthroughs

I have been following this guide out for a while so i decided to make a video walkthrough for the whole of cataclysm, Check it out on my youtube channel at :) don't forget to subscribe as i am hoping to start out a nice youtube channel with wow video to get a youtube partnership Also if an admin sees this could you post the videos on the website or something?

Guide: Hellfire Peninsula-Horde

Hello, first I want to say I love your add-on and I have used it to level several characters on both Horde and Alliance.  I have noticed some issues with this particular guide while playing my druid.  All of the mag'har related quests after completing the quest 'The Mag'har' are no longer in the game, presumably due to the fact that Thrall is no longer in Orgrimmar.  This may have an effect on the Nagrand quest guide, but I have not gotten to that point on my druid yet.

This is a list of quests and their follow-ups that I have noticed have been removed completely from the game:

Messenge to Thrall

Envoy to the Mag'har

A Debilitating Sickness

Administering the Salve

The last two may be unintentional but the option to take 'A Debilitating Sickness' does not pop up unless Envoy to the Mag'har is completed, so I'm pretty sure that this was merely an oversight on Blizzard's part.

Addon Deleted

I followed the guides for 3 different character at 3 different levels.

After being asked to make a long distance run accross all of Hellfire to Telhmat to pick up ONE quest when I could have finished 3 other quests and FLOWN to the destination or completely SKIPPED the single ... after being asked to fly from  and after bing asked to do quests that have lower than 60% drop and HIGH quantity collection rates, I came to the conclusion that I can level much more effieciently on my own.

The game does a much better job of guiding us through the leveling if you let it. ;)

indeed it turns better :)

indeed it turns better :)

I am writing a blog about wow armory

Tanaris guide suggestion

Is there a place to make suggestions?

OK, I'm following the Tanaris guide and I have a suggestion.

I have found that the Gazer Tag and Chicken of the Desert quests are WAY to low of a drop rate to be efficient for leveling.

In fact, I have skipped the quests from Bootlegger outpost completely with 2 other characters.

After completing the Lost Rigger Cove quests, I finish the butcher bot and then move over to Trenton Lighthammer and his friends. With a couple of dungeon queues or battle grounds I did not need the Bootlegger quests.

BTW, I started Tanaris 2 levels lower than what your guide says.

Can you find a different captcha system? This one sucks to read.

Not sure it has.  I am still seeing spam, so they have figured out a way around it.

What a pain in the ass!  I had to try 7 times to find a captch I could read.

You really ought to find another way!

but at least it's killed off

but at least it's killed off the endless spam (buy pills/gold/shoes etc here) we were getting

First and second things I look at... 2 Strikes.

I just downloaded the addon for the first time.

I followed the on screen instructions and right clicked then wen to the guid list. The list opened in the world events tab which showed a page full...the top 12 lines of the list had 2 or 3 items per line. That is to say that one line had (guessing) 2-3 events listed and all of the text/fonts were piled on top of each other. It was a MESS! So, I clicked on the top line just to see what would happen. Now it shows Midsummer Fire Fest... and no apparent way to change it.

Fine, let's try the Leveling tab.  I'm on a level 60 DK... click on Hellfire Peninsula. The guide window now shows a step to set my hearth stone to Undercity. What? Why?!?! And that is all it shows. What? Why?!?!

Gylin's picture

Ok, the first step is telling

Ok, the first step is telling you to use your hearthstone to travel to undercity, not set it there. Then use the protal to travel to Blasted land and on the Hellfire.

If you can only see one line of text, look through the display settings options as there are settings in there that allow you to view more, and resize the window. Personally I have mine set to 400x200 with all text set at 10, most of the time ends up showing 4/5 steps at once, so you can see what you'll be doing next. Which would be useful, as the previous guide has you in Blasted Lands, once you'd moved onto the Hellfire one, you'd see there's no point going to Undercity as you'll only be porting back to where you already are.

Lines of text

You should read more carefully. I did not say I could only see one line of text. I said I see many lines, a full  page in fact!

The problem is that the first several lines have more than one line of type per line. I'm not sure how to be much more clear. Perhaps if you think of your printer not advancing and it keeps printing on the same line...letters on top of letters. You can't read them.

Gylin's picture

No I read perfectly fine, the

No I read perfectly fine, the 1st paragraph, you're talking about the guidelist where the lists on multipe tabs show through each other, which is a known problem and easy to workaround by simply clicking one of the tabs at the top (dailies, leveling etc).

The 2nd paragraph, you talking about only being able to see a single line of text in the hellfire guide (the 1st line), and i'm just trying to assertain as to whether or not it's your display settings that are causing the problem, and give you an insight into things that you could do to fix the issue

Carbonite support

I use Carbonite addon alongside your guides, and on characters that I'm leveling, I get the following error message:

"WoW-Pro: It looks like you don't have a recent TomTom installed. WoW-Pro's guides won't have their full functionality without it! Download it for free from or"

Carbonite has its own waypoint arrow and it's coded to be compatible with TomTom. WoW-Pro guide works just fine with Carbonite's waypoint arrow, correctly setting and updating waypoints, so there really is no need to install ANOTHER addon with duplicate functionality. I think you need to update your code to detect Carbonite as well, thus preventing a misleading error message appearing on login.

BTW: The catchpas on this site are EXTREMELY difficult for this human to decipher.

Hyjal Problem

The hyjal guide is listed as finished ( = / = ) cant remember the numbers exactly. Anyway, I have only actially completed about 100 hyjal quests but because of this I cannot go back to the hyjal guide because the add-on thinks it has been completed. I have checked the written version of the guide and it definitely doesn't end there, (around the quest where you throw bear cubs outta trees). Is there any way I can reset the progress of the guide? I have tried reinstalling. I believe this may have been caused by skipping a few quests.

I've been using the addon for

I've been using the addon for a while and a couple things have been bugging me:

1). If you have the addon set to auto scale to a certain number of steps, lets say 10. When you get to a sticky step you gain 1 line for the "as you go", 1 or more for the number of sticky steps, then the 10 actual steps. What you end up with is a frame that is actually atleast 12 steps high and may interfer with your UI config(it does for mine).

So i was wondering if it is posible to make the auto scaleing take into account the sticky steps too.

2). Would it also be posible to scroll the regular steps independent of sticky steps? If I have a sticky step and get past the 10 steps after it before completeing the sticky, the 11th step is not visible so I have to scroll down to see it, but now I can't see the sticky.

Gethe:   Thanks for the suggesttions.

Since your requests sound like they might involve some tricky UI work, could I ask you to file the bug on the development site:

That way it will not get lost.   Since most of the developers are students, we might have to wait till after finals.

Looks like someone is using your guide viewer

I was on wow interface the other day and noticed a link to a new WOW levelling guide, it looks like from the images on their site that they have modified your code to run their guide.  I have not downloaded a trial so I am not sure if they are using your guides and guide viewer.

I thought this might be of interest.

Crackerhead22's picture

Yep, we know. Both Jame's

Yep, we know. Both Jame's and the author of TomTom (since they have TomTom packaged in) are trying to get those idiots to stop I believe.

I have noticed that the guide site has been taken down.  Looks like a win for James guides and Cladhaire (TomTom author). :)

I just went to that page and it looks like whatever guide is still there.  Might want to check again...

I have just downloaded a

I have just downloaded a trial and looked through some of the code, the few pieces I looked at was the same.  Then I checked the 1 - 20 guides.  I have copied the content of their Guides.xml, it looks remarkably like the one in the WOW Pro addon.

<Ui xmlns="">  <Script file="01_05_Bitsem_Echo_Isles.lua"/>  <Script file="01_05_Jiyambi_Valley_of_Trials.lua"/>  <Script file="01_05_Malorajan_Kezan.lua"/>  <Script file="01_12_Gylin_Mulgore.lua"/>  <Script file="01_12_Jiyambi_Tirisfal_Glades.lua"/>  <Script file="01_12_Snowflake_Eversong_Woods.lua"/>  <Script file="05_12_Bitsem_Durotar.lua"/>  <Script file="05_12_Malorajan_Lost_Isles.lua"/>  <Script file="12_20_Bitsem_Azshara.lua"/>  <Script file="12_20_Bitsem_Northern_Barrens.lua"/>  <Script file="12_20_Malorajan_Silverpine.lua"/>  <Script file="12_21_Snowflake_Ghostlands.lua"/> </Ui>

I would say they are selling your hard work.

On another note I would like to say thanks to everyone involved in creating your guides as they are very good.  I have been using this site since before you had an addon.

Shadowmoon Valley

I can't see shadowmoon valley in my guide list, is there4 any version I can get this in pls :)
