How To Install:

  1. Download the addon using the big shiny button.

  2. Download TomTom from WoW Interface or Curse. TomTom is important! Without it, you won't see the arrow telling you where to go!
  3. OPTIONAL: You may also want to download Lightheaded. While almost all of our guides provide their own coordinates, we haven't been able to update some of the older guides yet and our addon can pull them automatically from Lightheaded in the meantime!
  4. Unzip the downloaded files into your addons directory. (How do I unzip the file?)

    Windows XP location:

      C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons

    Windows Vista/7 location:

      C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons

    Mac location:

      Macintosh Main HD/Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons
  5. Log into the game. In the lower left-hand corner of your character select screen, you should see an "Addons" button. Click it. The WoW-Pro addon and TomTom should both be listed. Make sure they are checked, and you're ready to go!

  6. If you have any trouble installing the guide, stop by our Addon Help Chat Room to get help!

You can also visit the WoW-Pro Leveling Addon Troubleshooting Guide, where you'll find a fix for most common issues.

Don't miss out on updates!

  • Will cover EVERY zone, not just the "best" ones

Guide problem

I downloaded this addon a while back and it has been working fine, I created a character called lombardo and used this guide to level him a bit through outland and the death knight starter zone, I then deleted him and made a different character with the same name, now for some reason the WoW Pro addon is remembering where the other character was up to in the guides, so it starts of way further than where I am actualy up to. Also when i'm in the deathknight starter zone I get a ton of Lua errors and the guide sometimes doesn't jump to the next step after one has been completed (only in the dk starter zone, despite the fact that the first time I did it everything worked fine) I have tried "reset current guide" but nothing happens, I have tried shift-clicking a guide but still nothing happens, I have tried manually unticking all the steps but I just get a Lua error and then everything just appears re-ticked. I also tried deleting the profile and re-installing the addon but it still puts me back in the exact same place. I don't know what to do, is there anyway I can solve this?

The fine folks at wow-pro

The fine folks at wow-pro can't really help your quests being remembered cross-character. WoW stores all its variables in files sorted by character name, and it doesn't delete any of these files when a character is deleted.

What you can try doing is going to the folder WoW is installed in, then navigating to WTF\Account\Your account name\SavedVariables and deleting the WoWpro.lua found there. This will, unfortunately, reset your guide progress on ALL characters, but if you simply must have them reset, that's the way to go.

Skumball's picture

AyaJulia has it right. The

AyaJulia has it right.

The game is ascociating the old saved variables are for the new character, because of teh shared name. The only way is to delete these files and AyaJulia said.

Though the ones you want to delete are in the WoW\Account\Realm\Character\savedvariablefile.lua

Jiyambi's picture

Actually, Skumball, AyaJulia

Actually, Skumball, AyaJulia is right on that account too. Due to the way Ace3 profiles works, all your character data for WoW-Pro is saved in the account-wide savedvariables file.

However, I actually already spoke to the OP via PM - it seems deleting the WTF file was not enough in this case, which means it's something completely Blizzard side and not really something I can fix. It has to do with the list of completed quests, which the addon automatically grabs from the server. If that list is incorrect, there's not really anything our addon can do about it Sad

Gylin's picture

Yep, I'm sure I remember

Yep, I'm sure I remember reading that since the achievements were added to the game, things like a characters quest history were saved server side rather than on the client(our) end. I just can't find it again now to confirm that....which is typical!

Deathknight Leveling Path

First off I absolutely love this addon, I used to use tour guide and it was great but this one is easier to setup and use imo.

Now I may be talking out my ass, but once a death knight finished the Scarlet enclave (think thats the start zones name) your guide points them to WPL and EPL wouldn't it be more time effective to have them jump into Hellfire Peninsula right away? I only post this because with Cata coming out WPL and EPL will be changed but outland is unlikly to be affected and I have yet to find a talent build for DK that cannot take down the quests in Outland.

PS. As an after thought I notice your guides tend to only follow a single lore path, I know one zone I never saw in your guides was Slitharus (probably because its unnecessary to go there for leveling) but I would love to see in addition to the Leveling group of addons a Lore group to help fools like me get those pesky lore masters colors. If I can help build these in anyway please let me know. Tho any serious work would have to wait on Cata I'm guessing since all the lore is about to change.

Thanks for everything and keep up the awesome work

Jiyambi's picture

In Cataclysm, we hope to

In Cataclysm, we hope to make more comprehensive zone guides, which the user can then use a slider to determine how much of the zone he or she wants to do. So, ideally, we'll be covering every quest in every zone, and it will be great for Loremaster Seekers (see what I did there?).

In terms of the Death Knight question - Jame always maintained it was best to stay in old world until level 60, but that was quite some time ago, before the huge buff to leveling speed in Outland. I'm not sure what the plan is for updating the DK starter guide, but it's always an option to skip right ahead to the Hellfire zone, and you should be able to do this pretty seamlessly by just selecting the Hellfire guide from the list.

The only thing that's an

The only thing that's an issue as far as going to HFP at 58, at least Horde-side, is how early we're meant to accept and complete "The Assassin" and its followup chain (which is not open below 60). This is something to pass along if you guys want to redo that bit of the Horde HFP guide with Cataclysm in order to let people go at 58. Smiling Or hopefully the leveling speed in the old world will be adjusted similarly so it's not such an immense buff to bail to Outland as soon as possible. Either way! XD

Love the work on the addon, guys. I'm liking it better than TourGuide for sure.

Jiyambi's picture

Ah, thanks! I knew there

Ah, thanks! I knew there were one or two quests that had a level 60 requirement in there, but I wasn't sure what they were.

Gylin's picture

It depends on what level you

It depends on what level you find yourself at when you're finished with the start area for Deathknights. You can go to Hellfire and get the start quests there at level 58, but once you've turned those in you'l run out of quests you can do quickly, as most after that require level 60+. That's why the guide directs you to EPL or WPL, rather than going straight to Outlands

Jiyambi's RL Issues

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to apologize for letting things go around here this week. I know many of you have submitted bugs and haven't been answered yet. I also haven't awarded karma points yet this week.

Please be patient with me. I just moved this week and still have many boxes to unpack. My cat, who I've had for fifteen years, just passed away right after the move, so I've been dealing with that. I've been attempting to get to know my new house mates as well, which means I've been away from my computer a lot. Finally, and probably most importantly, I've been preparing for my next term at university, which starts next week. All in all things have been pretty hectic!

I tell you all this not to generate sympathy, but so you know I haven't abandoned you. I will try to get some updates going tomorrow, if at all possible, as well as respond to comments here and award karma points. Thanks everyone for their hard work writing and testing guides. You guys are the best community anyone could ask for!

Add-on freeze

Hi, I have a couple of comments. First, rarely, when using the add-on, I will come to a step and WoW will just freeze entirely. There is no error report to paste, so I have to manually end the program. The music still plays, but the screen is frozen. I then try to load the guide again, and when it gets to that step again, it will freeze again. I usually use the paper guide and continue ahead a couple steps, and then load it again. It has happened to me on the Grizzly Hills guide, as well as the Howling Fjord guide.

I tried deleting my WTF folder, and that didn't solve the issue. What do you think the next step is? It's not a huge issue, but I wasn't sure if others had come across it as well.

Also, I noticed on the Felwood 53-54 guide (alliance), when it tells you to turn in the salve quests "Go south to Arathandris Silversky (54,86)", it gives the wrong coordinates. I imagine this isn't a huge concern, but I figured I'd note it.

Oh, and by the way, the add-on is amazing, kudos to everyone who put in loads of work. Quite impressive, and on par with what I've seen from this site.

Update 2

So I downloaded the update when i got back from work today and am still having the issue with the guide freezing, I checked on the Howling Fjord Guide. What is the next step for me to help determine what the problem is? Just let me know what I can do to help, or sweep it under the rug and just work around it, whatever is fine with me...

Jiyambi's picture

Silvann is currently looking

Silvann is currently looking into what's causing the crashes - it seems one of our update codes has a memory leak, which can cause really bad lag or crashes over time. I'm not sure if this is the cause your particular issue, but it's likely. For now, sadly, there's not something you can do right now that I know of - the only thing I'd suggest is that if you have the scrolling function turned on, to turn it off.

Ok, thanks, I'll be sure to

Ok, thanks, I'll be sure to do that. Thanks for your help, and no worries about it taking a while, it's no big deal. Thanks for all your help!

Gylin's picture

If Jiyambi's update doesn't

If Jiyambi's update doesn't work, could you post back the exact steps that it locks up on

Absolutely. I'm using v 1.3, and I'll let you know if the future updates don't fix it. I just had it happen to me again in Howling Fjord in Skorn. The exact step was going to the Northwest Tower and using the Sergeant's Flare, I believe it was the 2nd note in the guide.

The lock-ups seem to be happening more often, so either my luck is plummeting, or it's an issue with my computer, and I'm not sure which is worse...

Would it be helpful for me to record every instance that it locks up? It wouldn't e hard to write it down on paper and then post it here, so let me know.

Thanks for the prompt response!

Jiyambi's picture

It would indeed be helpful

Thanks for the bug report! I'm working on a couple updates today that will hopefully fix the issue you are having in those Northrend guides. If it *doesn't*, please post again - I'm not 100% sure what I'm updating is in response to the same bug you are having.

Thanks, glad you are enjoying the addon!

Addon team and coders/guide

Addon team and coders/guide writers, something I've just noticed in beta, those with gathering professions now get xp when picking herbs/mining etc. As an example, on my little level15 test shammy, I get 10xp per pick of herbs in Loch Modan (Silverleaf, Peacebloom, etc). I still haven't had a chance to check out what the xp is like for Archaeology yet, as I've been slacking and not got to level20! (building my kitchen instead Sticking out tongue) At least as a Dwarf I get a racial bonus for it Laughing out loud

Gylin's picture

Archaeology update and rare mobs

The XP you get from gathering seems linked to the skill you gain from the node your collecting, eg copper veins gave 10xp, but once I had a skill of 30 they only give 5. I still need to check this out more though, as I was also getting 11xp from herb nodes. the XP gain could also be linked to rested XP too, but I need to check that out some more yet as well

Archaeology.....WOW, this is a must pick profession while leveling!
The 1st dig site I found was in Wetlands, and there is a quest hub for 3 quests within the dig site nearby
Each Artifact I found gave me 825xp, whilst the quest mobs were giving me 115-130 or so (unrested at level 21).

Rare mobs are going to be well worth finding as they now give huge xp! I killed Sahara (huge spider lives in a cave in Loch Modan) got over 1800xp at level18, I think I was rested, so that would be 900, but that's for a mob that's only slightly harder than a normal mob (and yes the rares I've found so far do seem to be a little bit harder than normal mobs)

Well worth adding into guides, especially if as seems likely, the guides are going to be more zone based

XP for Gathering

I believe, if I recall the video I saw a couple weeks ago about this, that herbalism and mining give XP only. Archaeology doesn't, but many consider it a gathering profession and so have requested it does. Skinning does not and will not as then you would get double XP. But yeah, the guides should perhaps recommend, at least new players to pick at least one gathering profession.
TotalHalibut's video on it:
Blizzard... if you are out there reading this... please send a key my way. Smiling

Gylin's picture

As of the latest beta build

As of the latest beta build Archaeology gives xp when collecting fragments, at least that's what the patch notes said.

As if I Needed Reasons to Love Archeology more

That will be seriously cool. Can't wait to give Archaeology a try. Not only did it give cool lore/trinkets/pets and mounts, but now gives XP too... Sure it isn't as useful at the AH as Herbalism/Mining and the like, but looks to take over fishing as the best of the second professions.

While doing the Ghostlands guide an odd bug appeared placing a hunters volley icon (I was on my hunter) in the on use location. It seemed to show up on pick up quest and turn in quest steps.

There were also a few quests that the tom-tom arrow wanted you to go back and turn in the quest before you actually completed it (Investigate An'daroth). Of course there were a few Coordinates issues as well, while using Lightheaded, so not sure if the its wrong in the guide, not in the guide, or lightheaded's fault.

The volley icon is the target button. It is supposed to target the related NPC or quest mob and place a skull over their head so you can find them.

I'm not sure if that's supposed to show up in the Ghostlands guide, though. I'll look into it.

Your second comment makes me thing there are still some issues with the mapping function and the StepSkip() function. Will look into it.

Thanks for the feedback, as always!

Grizzly Hills just hates us,

Grizzly Hills just hates us, apparently.

Unfortunately this particular issue with the QuestPOIGetIconInfo() function has been plaguing us for a while. There is no documentation for the function, but we use it in the same way that TourGuide does as far as I can tell, and it doesn't seem to work the same.

I'll see what I can do. Can you make the step "sticky"? That has been successful in circumventing some bugs in the past.
