Revision of Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide from Mon, 2009-02-02 16:39

Jame's picture

Now also available as an Addon!

If you need guides for any other level range please check out this page.

Tips
If you don't want to try the Addon Version, here's how to enjoy the guides as much as possible, even if you don't have a 2nd monitor, you can either:

1. Print the guides. There is a "Printer Friendly Version" link at the bottom of every guide, you just have to click on it. However, that might be expansive (and probably expensive), because the guides are big, very big. Another downside is that my guides are updated very frequently, so if you print it you'll miss the latest updates.

2. Playing WOW in Windowed Mode feels very comfortable while following along with this guide.

  • Keep the guide opened in an internet window
  • Log in to World of Warcraft, press Escape and go to Video Options, tick the following boxes:

Click on "Apply".

Your screen will look exactly as if you were playing wow in full screen mode, besides you will be able to ALT-TAB to the guide INSTANTLY.

This is how I play wow while following my guide, when I don't feel like booting up my 2nd computer Smiling

The average person should make a level every 4 or 5 hours from 70 to 80 while following my guides.

fantastic guide

Jame,

First, let me congratulate you on yet another incredible guide. I have 2 lvl 70's and I used your guide in both cases and I recommended your guide to my guide as a reference to level other toons they may have. It is amazingly well organized and entertaining. I think your objective of creating a guide that is easy to use and doesn't miss lore / areas / content and is soloable was nailed.

Ok that was the gushing praise part...now the problem. I am leveling very quickly - perhaps too quickly. I am currently lvl 41 but i have only made it too the level 36-37 area of the guide. Can I ask for one favor?

Can you create a list of the quests you should have as you start a new chapter? In my case, it would be those that you should have as you enter chapter 2 (40-50). I think I need to skip all the remaining quests from 37 - 40 and start at Chapter 2.

Given the efficiency of your guide, this might be a good thing to add to all new chapters. Not to say your guide isn't perfect. Smiling

Hmmm..

Hey James,
I was just wondering, is there going to be a guide(s) up to level 80? i only see 70-75.
If you are, that will be awesome. Laughing out loud

Hi there.

I just found out about your guides and this site. And its looking great so far Smiling . Anyhow I was just wondering is there any form of subscription or anything alike that I need to be aware of, or are these proper guides actually free?! cause that'd be awsome.

Just about to enter Mana Tombs as im writing this so I think thats about it for now Laughing out loud

I'll stick around.

1 Comment tho Sticking out tongue :

After you dinged 47 you tell warlocks to go ti IF by go auberdine-menthil-IF. In the new patch you can actually take the boat from auberdine straight to stormwind harbour! And i think that benefits most if not all classes that cannot train in darnassus.

Hey jame, love your guides.

Hey jame, love your guides. I have a little tip though they may/ may not help. I started using your guide at level 40 for my palladin, so obviously I had to get the chain quests from the beginning, which I am not complaining about, but it took forever to find. Maybe you could, at the beginning of your guides, list what quests are chained and where to start them, it would save some people a lot of time. Again, love your guides.

In the comment section of the 50-60 guide I wrote the pre quests to the starting quests in that chapter because i was bored and Blizzard is stupid for doing a 12 hour maintence on a national U.S. holiday.

I used Jame's guide for getting my Priest to 70 in about 10 days played time. I plan on using it for my Rogue that just dinged 30 as well as levelling in Northrend. It's the best guide available. Thanks Jame!

Silly question

Silly question but does addons take extra cap? Thanks again..Sticking out tongue Good the hear 60-70 will be faster, how long do you think 70-80 will take? Jawdropping!

Jame's picture

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I understand the question about the addons, could you reformulate that? Sticking out tongue

About the /played needed from 70-80, I'd say in between 4 and 5 days from 70 to 80. Without rested XP bonus that is. It's hard to say for now though, I'm not there yet Sticking out tongue

Im not sure I understand

Im not sure I understand that you don't understand =) uhm... like when you play wile you have addons up,does it take extra cap? Sticking out tongue for instance, say you use 100mb in 1day's playtime of wow,and this time i used addons, and it takes like 120mb a day, is it like this?

Jame's picture

What kind of cap are we

What kind of cap are we talking about? Does your internet provider has a cap on how much bandwidth you can use every month?

If yes, the answer is: it depends. Some addons add a lot of data transfer (DPS meters for example). On the other hand, cartographer and fubar don't add much, it's insignificant.

Level 70-80?

Will there be a guide for 70-80 someday? i followed the alliance guide from 30-70 on 6 chars now, and found them wonderfull fast and easy, was just wondering if there will be a new fast leveling guide from Jame's =)

Kvappe

Lol

Lol,okay thanks, seems i won't be grinding then! Oh and another thing, anyone knows if bliz will increase the amount xp gained from quests and mobs for 30+ once more if WoTLK is out?

They don't have plans to reduce the XP curves for level 30-60. But they are reducing the XP curve from 60-70, with today's patch.

Just wanted to say thanks for this great guide. I followed it 30-70. I never once found myself falling behind i always was ahead of the guide =] Its awesome i envy your time for writing this. I was a first time alliance player following this guide made it easy to reach 70! I dinged with 11 days played time!! I wish I s/s >< haha. Im a mage by the way, 2 pieces away from full merc and got offhand / dagger yesterday Smiling Also followed tip on farming gold for the epic flyer, on my way to doing so! Hope i get around 4k gold

Level 1-70

Hello, I just wanted to know from someone who has used Jame's guid to lvl to 70.I would just like to know wile using his guide, how long it took to get to lvl 70 in real life and in-game,thanks !

Jame's picture

It generally takes me about

It generally takes me about 8 days /played from 1-70 when following my guides, without any rested xp bonus.

Grinding

Ah,okay thanks for reply! Also, I will be leveling a rogue, and some people told me that grinding would be fastest to lvl a rogue. Is this true? Because to be honest i don't mind grinding I just want to lvl it as fast as possible, without having to go and buy lvling guides, so would like some advice and possibly replies form people who have grinded to 60 or possibly 70 (im not planning to grind 60-70)Thanks in Advance.. PS. Very good guide jame! =)

Jame's picture

Grinding is faster than

Grinding is faster than questing IF you're totally clueless about questing. If you follow my guide, I guarantee you you'll level faster than with grinding, but I also guarantee you that you'll get a lot more gold, rep, items and more importantly, you won't be bored out of your mind!

It's quite simple, my guide makes you do quests in such an optimized order that you don't have to run around much, and in the end you're almost always killing stuff as if you were grinding, besides you're also completing a bunch of quests while doing it!

No need to buy leveling guides, my guide is better than those other guides you have to pay for, it has been tested and proved many many times by hundreds of players over the past 3 years Sticking out tongue

Very happy to hear that not only my leveling guide has helped you, but also other guides written by other wow-pro members Smiling

the emerald dream

hopefully when they release the emerald dream, the druids there will be so annoyed at Hemet for getting people to kill hundreds of animals that we get to kill him Laughing out loud

:)

Well your guides still the best I can find after trying a lot of them with my friend. Just got through last chapter with my third char and then realised: Why did I level this? And noted it was just because I wanted a hunter, because hunters don't get killed by every class it meets. So now i'm dying to get my hands on your Northrend guides. Just one question (don't have to anwser this if you dont want by any reason) Do I get to Kill Hemet Nesingvary? So incredibly sick of his go kill 30 of these and 30 of those and then come back here. }:)

Guess the fastest leveling will be a month or two when the stream of players start to thin out. Sticking out tongue But noway i'm waiting want to be serverfirst to 80 so shut my self into my room for a week.

You're the leveling GOD man!!!!!!!

Fast Leveling

This is an awesome guide Smiling
No point in saying thanks, seeing as you already get the point and so many people already have, but still - thanks!
Also, I noticed that you DO level very quickly, because i started the guide and level thirty then stopped for a bit. I finally reached level forty-five, and I've found it so much easier to level, than when I had stopped the guide, and now I'm even ahead of the guide. Thank you!

Thank you jame!

Hello!

This guide is just awesome for people like me: I love to play WoW, but im just so slow at leveling sometimes, but with this guide im gaining levels fast, and having a lot of fun at the same time. I've leveled my main character to lvl 70 from lvl 34 with the old for of this guide, and now im working on with a priest through the new one. I'm so happy that you, Jame, have made this guide for everyone to read, for free! I really appreciate the work you have done making this guide. You are helping a lot of people with this, and we all - or at least what kind of comments ive seen - love it! I dont have the nerves to make something like this, thats for sure, and im happy that you had.

in a nutshell: this guide is awesome and Jame, you are awesome! and i believe a lot people agree with me Smiling THANK YOU JAME

Great guide

Hey Jame,
Just thought I'd say thanks for everything. Ive been using this guide since back in the day when leveling was actually difficult Sticking out tongue .

And I also saw someone else ask about which proffessions would be good to compliment the guide, and I think its worth mentioning.
Personally I would always choose 2 gathering proffessions, (Herb/Skin, Mine/Skin) because you'll level so fast with the guide that you'll need to make up money somehow to be able to afford your epic mount at 60.

Thanks again Jame

Money guides.

Hey James,

First of all want to say thanks for the great guide, just got my second character to 70 following it. I was just wondering if there will be any guides for the rest of Netherstorm and for Shadowmoon Valley to help us get some gold for our epic flying mounts.

Lvl 58...

Hey Jame. Love Your Guide I Have Followed It Since 38 and I am Now 58. At 55 I Stopped Following On Advice Of My Mate And Then I Hit 57 In A Couple Of Hours (Not Patronizing You, Just I Picked Up Some High Exp Quests In Felwood). I Struggled to 58 and Now I Am In Outland. I Was Wondering, While I Am Going Against Your Guide By Going At 58 Would It Hurt To Follow Your 60-65 Guide At 58?

Admin's Note: You don't need to use CAPS at the start of every word, it just makes it harder to read. Please just put CAPS at the start of every sentence and on proper nouns.

Yes, it might hurt Sticking out tongue

I've explained in lenghts why it's bad to go to Outland at 58, so I won't do it again here. But just know that you probably have troubles, unless:

- You do a lot of instances to catch up in levels
- You grind
- You have a lot of rested bonus

Outlands at 58

Could you please provide me with a link to where you explain why it's bad to go to Outland at 58? Smiling

I ventured into Outland at 58 with my hunter, and was able to do quests non-stop in Hellfire Peninsula until I hit 62.

Jame's picture

It is towards the end of the

It is towards the end of the 3rd chapter (50-60). In short, there are some circuits in the old world which provide as much xp/hour as in Outland, sometimes even more. Anyway, I'll just quote it for you:

Quote:
So you are level 58 now. Many people ask if they should just go to Outland at level 58 and never go back to the old world. This is in my experience a mistake. As we've seen in this chapter, we're already getting 10K+ Exp for certain quests already in Felwood and Winterspring. The Plaguelands circuits are just as good, it would be a shame to miss that. Not to mention, if you go to Outland at level 58, you won't have access to all quests, there are some quests with a level 61+ requirement already in Hellfire Penninsula. So yes, that's really not the most efficient way.

However what I recommend is:

Go to Outland and do the first few quests to get some nice gear upgrades, unlock your tradeskills past 300 and get the flight path to Shattrath. Open up my 60-65 alliance guide, follow the guide until step 7. when you arrive at the Temple of Telhamat, get the flight path (buy the first aid book if you wish), then ride to Shattrath (infos on how to do that are somewhere in the guide, use the search function to find it). Get the flight path in Shattrath, then take a portal back to Ironforge and get back to the guide 50-60 guide.

Thank You Jame!

Hey Jame I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for putting together this wonderful guide! It's amazing!
I am a hardcore horde player and I've always wanted to level up an alliance character. However I was never good at leveling on Alliance (partly because I didn't know where to go to quest) but this guide is helping me along fantastically! I'm following it step by step and I'm doing great! People are even whispering me asking me how I leveled so fast. For example, I was level 28 in a group for RFK with a 32 Hunter. Now I am level 35 and he is still level 33.

Thank You Jame. My Moonkin will be level 70 in no time Smiling

Where should i start

Hey Jame, first i wanna Congradulate you on your guide. Second, i just recently found out about your guide. so im lvl 49 now and I started from your 40-50 leveling guide i think im around the lvl 44-45 range and i kinda wanna move on to the 50-60 guide but idk if i should because of the prerequisite quests that u get from the 40-50 guide and i think i might need them. Thought i'd ask you, cause who knows ur guide better than you. thnx.

Amazing

You're nothing short of a genius! Your guides are really pedagogical and smart - they've changed my way of playing for good Smiling
It's a shame you didn't get into the beta Sad

Jame's Levelling Guides FTW!

Hey I love your levelling guides. And really appreciate the work that you put into them. A few levels after 30 I started your guide, and not that the game wasn't enjoyable before, it just gave things a whole lot of direction, especially for a first time WoWer. I'm now level 61 thanks to your guides! One question. How did you come up with them? Have you done every single quest and then you just wrote down and prioritized which ones were worth doing based on XP results, time taken etc? Thanks again!

Stuck at 54

Must say that this guide is great. Im at level 54 and stuck because i took up the guide a few levels ago and i had allready been to un goro, and i dont know where too pick up the guide. please shed some light.

Thanks Laughing out loud

Jame's picture

I've leveled several

I've leveled several characters before I wrote the guides. I always took notes when I noticed that I could have done quests in a more efficient order.

And then one day I just started to write the guide while leveling an alt. Thottbot and wowhead were of course helpful to make sure I didn't miss any quests. There's no better way to write a guide than actually leveling a character while going through each step. Well, at least that's what I think and it's how I do it Eye
