  1. Can these guides cause my account to be hacked?

Hacking occurs when a program called a keylogger is active on your computer. These guides are .lue files. It is *impossible* for .lua files to hack your account. However, it is possible that you picked up a keylogger as a "piggyback" file with a download from an addon site or auto-downloader, or somewhere unrelated to WoW-Pro. We have hundreds of users who report no problems with hacking, so it is very unlikely that any of these addons are the source of any such malware. However, I highly suggest you use both anti-spyware and anti-virus software to protect your computer and your account from this possibility. An authenticator is also a great way to drastically reduce the risk of hacking, though it is still technically possible to be hacked even with an authenticator.

  2. WoW-Pro guides do not appear in the guide menu, how can I fix this?

    Possible solutions:

    • Make sure the relevant addons are all enabled (TomTom, Lightheaded, Tour Guide and the WoW-Pro guides).
    • Make sure in the addon screen (at character selection screen) that you have ticked the 'Load out of Date Addons' box.
    • Download the latest version of the addon from here: Alliance or Horde.
  3. Guide is 100% completed, how do I reset it?

    Possible solutions:

    • Shift-click the guide in question, this should reset it.
    • Delete WTF and Cache folders.
    • Check that you are using the WoW Pro guides, there is a known issue with at least one of the guides that comes with the Tour Guide addon (the non-WoW Pro Howling Fjord) where it will not reset.
  4. How can I fix my bad frame rate with addon enabled?

    Possible solutions:

    • Delete Temporary files (Search for 'temp' in Run or Search bar in Vista).
    • Lower Graphics settings in the in game menu.
    • Close all running programs (and/or icons in the task bar).
    • Run the game in Windowed Mode (available in the video options menu).
  5. Why aren't my addons showing up on the addon selection screen?

If you have Vista then you have to extract the files to a slightly different location than with XP (see here).

I have also seen several occasions in which, despite the guide being where they should be and everything working as it supposedly should, the guides do not show up in game. 100% of these cases occurred on Vista computers. Rumor has it there is an addon bug of this nature that is inherent in Vista. I have not heard of a method for fixing this, if anyone learns of one please let us know!

  6. The addon doesn't seem to be following the online guide, how come?

Most likely you are using the WRONG GUIDE. First, make sure the WoW-Pro guides are enabled. All our guides have "WoW-Pro" in the title, and the author's name (in many cases, "Jame".)

  7. I appear to have lost my progress in the guide, why and what can I do to fix it?

First, this should only happen under one of three circumstances:

    1. You force the game to quit without properly logging out. This will not save any progress you made during that session.
    2. You delete the Tour Guide files in your WTF folder, or they become somehow corrupted.
    3. The section you were using is updated and changed, which should only cause small parts (the parts that were changed) to reset.
  8. As far as fixing it goes, I'm afraid the only thing you can do is manually click through the steps until you get back to your spot. You might try using the "paper" guide on this site to help you find your spot.

  9. Some or all of the waypoints don't work. Why?

There are many reasons why the waypoints may not work. Try the following.

    • First, make sure you have both TomTom AND Lightheaded downloaded and enabled. TomTom maps the waypoints and displays the arrow, while Lightheaded provides coordinate information for questgivers.
    • If you accidentally deleted/cleared a waypoint, right-click the Tour Guide box, click off the current step, then click it again to uncheck it and return to that step. This will reset the waypoint information.
    • There are rare occasions that steps do not have waypoints. Mouse over the step and check the description to see if this is the case.
    • In very rare circumstances, your addon files may simply be corrupt and therefore not working. The best way to solve this is to delete the Tour Guide, TomTom, and Lightheaded files in your WTF folder. This is located in different places depending on your operating system - see the top of this page for locations. Once you find the World of Warcraft folder, the WTF folder can be found under:

      World of Warcraft\WTF\Account Name\Realm Name\Character Name

Make sure to back up your WTF folder before deleting anything. This is the folder that contains all your settings, both for WoW and for your addons. Once you've backed it up, delete anything in the WTF folder with "Tour Goude", "TomTom", or "Lightheaded".

  10. Why isn't the addon on Curse/WoWInterface/WoWMatrix?

Jame has made it clear that he will not be putting his guide up on these third party sites. This is not selfishness on his part - he only makes enough on the adds to keep the site going, this is not a for-profit site.

WoW-Pro is a website that depends on a community of authors working together. Not only that, but those authors have a lot of "paper" (not addon) guides to offer that are very high quality. These guides have gotten more exposure because people come to the site for the famous "Jame's Leveling Guide" but also look around at the other guides here.

If Jame's guides were made available on the third-party sites, traffic to WoW-Pro.com would drop substantially. Old users might still come here to look at guides, but new users would never find them. It would effectively destroy the guide-writing community Jame has worked so hard to cultivate.

I know it is a little less convenient to come here to get the addon, but to most people, it's worth it.

  11. Can this addon work with Carbonite?

Carbonite can emulate both Tomtom and Cartographer.

    How?

      /carb options

      > General

      [x] Emulate Tomtom Waypoints

Does this mean I DO NOT have to install Tomtom for Tourguide to work?

      Yes

    Do I install Lightheaded?

Yes - Lightheaded will attach itself to the Carbonite Quest-tracker and is fully compatible with the built in Tomtom emulation.
  12. I am playing an non-English Wow version - is it working?

If you understand English, you can use it - it works. Auto-completion works for quest gathering/completion/validation, but not for travel, for example - you will have to manually validate some steps which would be auto-validated by the English version.
You will have many messages like "Can't find zone XXX - using default zone" in the Chat log, but most of the time the default is pertinent. Waypoints in another zone will be inaccurate, though, and will point to a bad destination - but there are only a few.
Note that there are some localized versions:

    • French
    • (more to come)
  13. Where do I report bugs and/or problems with the addon?

Please report this on our bug reporting page. Be sure to include the version number of the guides, the specific guides section that the problem occurs, Horde or Alliance, and any other useful information.

  14. I'm very grateful for this awesome addon, how can I repay the favor?

    You can contribute by either:

    1. Improve the in-game guide. Here's how to contribute.
    2. Help the community in other ways.

Pointer to getting the quests?

Submitted by statman on Wed, 2009-11-04 12:06.

Hi I was wondering if the addon's/guides will tell me where to go to pick up the quests at? I know questhelper will point to me on where to do the quests, but I'm wondering the guide will give me another arrow on where to pick up the quests?

Sounds like Lightheaded is

Submitted by Jiyambi on Wed, 2009-11-04 12:16.

Sounds like Lightheaded is either missing or disabled. Lightheaded (one of the addons linked on our download page) is necessary for these guides to work properly. It is what tells TomTom where quest NPCs are.

Hope that helps, let me know if that does not fix the problem!

Submitted by Jiyambi on Fri, 2009-06-05 01:37.

Points are gained from useful comments and from good guides. Jame still has some RL stuff going on so guide karma has been slow to come in lately, and I have also been really busy making sure I graduate and getting ready to move. Soon things will be back to normal and the karma points will be flowing Eye

Or... Maybe not do this

Submitted by Skumball on Fri, 2009-06-05 01:55.

Alternatively, enquire about it as I did.

I did not mean anything with that forum topic nor wanted anything from it btw... I was merely curious as to how the system worked. But hey, I got a promotion and the Karma points I was missing and I do sincerely thank Jame for that. I really wouldn't advise this though. I did it purely to find out how the system worked and am grateful for the results, but I can also see now afterwards, how perhaps it seemed 'pushy' or whatever and I wouldn't suggest this. I also appologise if my forum topic seemed that way, it was not my intention.

Your best bet is just to wait until things clear up for people's real-lives meaning they have the time to dedicate themselves back to WoW and WoW-Pro. Just be patient, maybe your missing a few points a day or something here, but fear not... You'll be happy when you get a big chunk of overdue points in time Smiling

Just realised that looks messed up... Probably due to the Jack D in my system...

Alcohol + interwebz = fail.

Ignore that one and just be patient, you'll get your points in time Smiling

Changed some on the layout, corrected some spelling errors and added a 7th question, although it's not the most frequently asked question, it's nice to have on this page ^^

I think this FAQ page is quite complete for now.

Submitted by Maw on Sun, 2009-05-24 18:39.

Sorry to say, but this FAQ page has a bad layout. It is, for example, not necessary with a ToC, or BIG headlines.

Check out this FAQ page for some ideas of how a normal FAQ page looks like (note that even these guys could ideally have smaller headlines).

Felt kinda struck by the "kind soul" part.

I recon I can help get this FAQ page going.

But since I haven't really been a key person in the work of the addon, I'm destined to miss out alot of the FAQs.
So if I do most of the hard work, can you PM me with just a rough list of FAQs that come to mind, Jiyambi? Don't need any fancy list, just quickly "scramble" down what you can think of.

Thanks.

Here are some ideas: Why

Submitted by Jiyambi on Mon, 2009-05-25 22:37.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Why aren't my addons showing up on the addon selection screen? - Most likely you have Vista and are putting them in the wrong folder (see folder instruction on the addon download pages).

  2. Revisiting the 100% completion, specifically the Howling Fjord section - most likely you are using the default guides. All the WoWPro guides should say "WoW-Pro" and if they are Jame's guides, "Jame" in the title.

  3. The addon doesn't seem to be following the online guide, how come? - Most likely you are using the WRONG GUIDE. First, make sure the WoW-Pro guides are enabled. All our guides have "WoW-Pro" in the title, and the author's name (in many cases, "Jame".)

  4. [Specific problem X is happening] - Please report this on our bug reporting page. Be sure to include the version number of the guides, the specific guides section that the problem occurs, Horde or Alliance, and any other useful information.

That's all for now, use it well! Smiling

Thanks for the feedback, I put it back to work in progress to give it a bit more work, and now have re-released it.

Please note that this list is by no means comprehensive, it just contains some of the main things I have noticed being asked about on the addon pages. Please add more to it if you have the knowledge and time.

resetting a guide

Submitted by codamol on Sun, 2009-07-12 19:33.

firstly i'd like to say the guide is absolutely fantastic, beat my mate to 80 by 4 levels and he started from 70 before me lol.

My problem is i would like to now level my warrior, but the guide for howling fjord says 100% complete in the guide list. I've tried shift-clicking it as it says at the top of the guide list but it just returns to 100%complete when i click it to try loading , its the only guid that is doing this, i can load borean tundra fine and any others i've used but not fjord.

if this is posted in worng place, acept my apologies ;D but keep up the good work with this addon its great.

Your inappropriate reply has

Submitted by Jiyambi on Sun, 2009-07-12 23:33.

Your inappropriate reply has been deleted, I'm not going to tolerate that kind of language on this site. I did not intend to sound "moody" or even irritated, though I do wish people would bother to read the page they are posting on before asking questions of others. I was merely trying to be clear, and I was truly sorry that you were using the incorrect guide - this has happened before and always makes me sad because there's not much we can do about it. If I came across as snarky, it was not intended and is a result of flat text being unable to convey my tone.

Still, I guess I should not be too surprised that, rather than being glad someone helped you despite your lack of consideration for my time, you decided to insult me.

Any further destructive and insulting comments will result in a site ban.

Thanks for the nice post

Submitted by Jiyambi on Sun, 2009-07-12 20:31.

Thanks for the detailed post but... read the page before you post! Your question has been exactly answered above! Here:

Guide is 100% completed, how do I reset it?

Possible solutions:

  • Shift-click the guide in question, this should reset it.
  • Delete WTF and Cache folders.
  • Check that you are using the WoW Pro guides, there is a known issue with at least one of the guides that comes with the Tour Guide addon (the non-WoW Pro Howling Fjord) where it will not reset.

See that last point? I'm sorry to say it, but you haven't been using our guides at all - you've been using the default Tour Guide guides, which are of a lower quality.

Make sure the guides you are using say "WoW-Pro" in the title. If they don't say that, they aren't ours!
