Basically, we’ll farm everything, every Golden Rune, material or consumable will be found and looted if you follow this guide. You’ll finish your first playthrough with plenty of materials to do anything you want in your New Game+ or Co-op / PvP game after.
I’ve planned this guide to do everything in the most efficient order, so that we never hit difficulty walls and complete the full game with as little deaths as possible. Every upgrade that can help will be obtained at the right moment, you’ll be warned in advance of everyambush and trap, there will be an optimal strategy for each of the 170 bosses in Elden Ring.
If you’ve never played a souls game before, I guaranteeyou will Platinum this game without any problems if you follow my guide.
If you’re a casual gamer or 70+ year old with bad reflexes, I guarantee you will Platinum this game too.
If you’re a veteran souls player, I guarantee you won’t regret following this guide, it will save you a lot of time and you’ll probably learn a few tricks and hidden game mechanics.
We’ll start the game with a few basic combat mechanics, get some early upgrades and progressively add more tools to our arsenal and explore some advanced combat tactics as well as new game mechanics which only exist in Elden Ring.
The Build
We’ll start with a very simple quality build and keep it that way in the early game. We’ll be very powerful and kill our first two Shardbearers that way.
Then we’ll use a single Larval Tear to respec and go a different route. We’ll be go heavy in INT and switch to one of the strongest weapons in the game, Moonveil, which will not only make us extremely strong in melee, but also have access to a range of Sorceries which will make us even more powerful and versatile.
About midway through our adventure, we’ll also acquire the most iconic weapon in all souls games: the Dark Moon Greatsword, which will make us even stronger. That’s the general path we’ll take, but there will be many other surprises and upgrades we’ll pick up along the way. We’ll of course use Summons, Ashes of war, Shields and strong counters. We’ll also use a bit of crafting in certain situations to use pots. And we’ll use Perfumes, which are incredibly underrated.
One of my goals was to showcase a very strong yet versatilecharacter build, instead of a one-trick pony type of character. I wished I could have included more variety, such as Incantations and Dragon Communion Incantations, but it would’ve required more respecing to make this viable and keep our power curve above the enemies we encounter. So I kept it simple and focused primarily on making this build simple, efficient and most importantly: get us through Elden Ring without any painful hurdles such as dying 10+ times to the same boss or difficult area.

Q: Will I get all trophies, including the platinum, if I follow your guide?
A: Yes of course. But much more than that. You’ll get everything you can possibly get in one playthrough. All items, weapons, spells, etc. Everything.
Q: Do I have to follow your character build exactly ?
A: No. You can follow this guide and do your own build and you’ll be fine. However, this is a very optimized guide and I believe the builds I use are extremely fun and powerful. Some strategies in the later part of the game are specific to my build, so you’ll have to find your own strategies if you don’t have the same skills / spells.
Q: Can I follow your guide if I’m on PC / PS / Xbox?
A: Yes. This guide works for ALL platforms.

Q: Is there a way to get the Gesture: The Ring if I didn’t preorder the game?
A: Yes. You have to play co-op and defeat a boss with someone who preordered the game.
Q: Why don’t you enable the Martyr Effigy?
A: Because it’s a personal choice. Many players don’t want to play Elden Ring (or other Souls games) online, no co-op and no PvP. Once you enable a Martyr Effigy, there is no way to disable it. So it’s really a matter of preferences. If you don’t want to PvP or to co-op at a specific location, you should never enable that Martyr Effigy. Also, this guide is 100% focused on PvE. It’s not a PvP guide or a co-op guide. It’s actually everything but that.
Q: Are you also covering rare drops from farmable enemies?
A: No. The guide would be way too long. The only exception will be the Brass Shield because we’ll use it in our build and it’s probably the best shield in the game in terms of weight / strength requirement to Guard Boost ratio. None of the other farmable rare drops are necessary, because the best items in the game are guaranteed drops.
Character creation
Origin:Samurai
You can pick a different origin if you like, especially if you want to take a different path for your character build.
But in the end it doesn’t really matter, at high level those starting attributes won’t matter at all.
Let me tell you why Samuraiis a good starting class:
Katana is an amazing weapon with great stats, innate bleed buildup and one of the best Ashes of War in the game
Samurai starts with a Longbow, which will be quite useful early on
The starting stats spread is perfect for our quality build and the unique weapon we’ll switch to soon.
Keepsake:Lands Between Rune is the best choice, it gives us some early runes to spend to have an easier start
Why not pick the Golden Seed? Because we’ll get plenty Golden Seeds early and reach the maximum amount of flask charges regardless. We’ll finish the game with 12 extra Golden Seeds, so it’s useless to pick this keepsake.
Why not pick the Stonesword Key? Because we’ll finish our first playthrough with 34 Stonesword Keys to spare, and that’s after opening every single imp statue.
Why not pick any other other item? Because we’ll get them all during our first platythrough anyway.

First let’s get the map, check video to see the exact route. Just follow the marked path on the map north and veer northwest before the river bed.

Northeast on the other side of the big tree is a corpse, guarded by Archer Wolf Rider:

Warning: Archer Wolf Riders are dangerous, buff up with Moonlight and keep shield up to block arrows. You don’t have to fight this one, you can loot and run
Southwest to the river bed, you should see an invisible scarab’s footsteps, but first clear the area of the wandering wolf pack, you don’t want any distraction
Further Southwest when you get close to the frozen river you’ll be invaded by Anastasia, Tarnished Eater
Use Flask and buff Moonlight.
She does partial damage if you block with shield, so best use spacing and dodge on this one.
You can backstab her when she does her jump slam attack
Best is to time your attacks to hit her as she comes in

Southeast in the valley look for a wandering caravan, clear it and loot the chest at the back:

Next step is risky, there’s a giant skeleton and lightning orbs involved, check video to lower chance of dying
Southeast until you reach the bottom of a long slanted rock, ignore Giant Skeleton if it attacks you
Gallop towards the top of the rock, trigger the Lightning Orbs and ride back down to dodge the lightnings
Then loot corpse on top of the rock:

The upcoming parts are in a blizzard area, very low visibility so if you can’t find an item, check video, I put markers on the map to make things easier
East to cliff wall then follow it south to find a corpse against the cliff wall, guarded by Snails:

Enter the evergaol – We must light up 4 Towers
Equip Sentry’s Torch in offhand slot, this reveals the invisible assassin enemies which roam this place. Makes the whole next part much easier.
2-Hand your weapon, the torch will still work.
I also suggest you check video for this next part, there is a lot of roof walking, it’s pretty hard to give accurate directions. So follow me along for this next part 😉
1st Tower
West, drop down and buff up with Moonlight
South under an arch, kill 1st Black Knife Assassin
Further South is a corpse in the middle of the streets:

West behind the building is a ladder, go to the top
Light 1st Flame
2nd Tower:
On the roof East just below, loot corpse:

From this roof, hide behind the tower and snipe the distant archer East on the roof with Loretta’s Greatbow if you can, take cover in between shots
Running jump to the roof where you killed the archer, loot corpse and drop down immediatley to avoid arrows from the other archer:

Repeat this until you bring him down to -50% HP

You don’t have to kill that dragon, if it’s too much trouble, just loot the corpse and if you die just let it go, we came here with almost no Runes anyway
Go back down the lift, back to the curved stairs and jump off east over the railings to drop down on broken platforms.

A combination of R2 attacks and Guard Counters should make this fight easy:
Take the lift back down, run past the beasts, go west and out the building, keep heading west until you reach the edge
Look for a rock below to drop down safely (it’s a risky drop down, it’s actually saver to do a vertical jump and slightly move forward to avoid overshooting and missing the rock below)
Then drop down all the way down the rocks to a large ruined floor
In the middle of it is a doorway where you can “Lie Down”
This will teleport you to our next boss: Dragonlord Placidusax

We’ll leave for now and come back later to kill Maliketh, this area’s final boss. The reason is that once we kill Maliketh, there will be a major change in Leyndell and we need to clear Miquella’s Haligtree first and talk to Gideon before killing Maliketh.

There’s a good Rune Farming spot right at the start, you can snipe the 5 snowmen with a single Loretta’s Greatbow (non-charged).
35k runes per minute (with Gold Scarab Talisman equipped instead of Shard of Alexander and Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot active). Check video to see this rune farm in action.
Farm so you have enough to spend all runes and level up again. Next area is very dangerous.
Buff up, jump over southeast, kill Leonine Misbegotten, loot corpse:

Loretta’s Mastery has a worse FP / Damage ratio than Loretta’s Greatbow, but it has about 20% more range so it will be useful in some situations.

You also get to finish Millicent’s quest line and get the Unalloyed Gold Needle, which will later allow us to get:
Miquella’s Needle (allows us to undo the Frenzied Flame ending if we want to)

My advice: if this is your first playthrough, pick the Gold Summon Sign.
To defeat the four sisters, you must survive and Millicent must survive too
Check video for strategy
Equip Jellyfish Shield
Equip Graven-Mass Talisman (instead of Shard of Alexander)
At the start stay where you are, buff with Flask of Physik and Contagious Fury
Use Stars of Ruin to help Millicent kill her 1st opponent quickly
If one of the sisters comes at you, sprint away and drag it towards Millicent to lose the aggro
Then help her again with more spells
If you fail it’s not a problem, you can retry as many times as needed
Best advice is to try to kill the first two sisters as quickly as possible or they fight will become really messy when the 3rd and Eldest sister join in
Rotten Winged Sword Insignia
After the fight, talk to Millicent who will be lying down on the other side of the rot pool in between the two rocks
East exit, follow tree root down, jump to pillar, follow next root to another pillar, walk to the highest point of this pillar to reach another root
From this root drop down to a roof with broken tiles.
Buff up then drop down on wooden beams below
Shoot down some shrimps below with Cannon of Haima
Then Buff up Moonlight, jump down to upper platform and kill whatever remains, open chest:

Equip it instead of Green Turtle Shell, this talisman boosts our physical damage negation so much we can’t pass on it

Try to have your Flask of Physik ready before dealing the finishing blow
Phase 2:
Unlock her and Sprint behind her while she does her divebomb red flower attack
Turn around, pop Flask, Lock-on and Comet Azur as long as Malenia stays inside the beam
Your Mimic should still be alive (barely).
Finish her off as quickly as you can with Ranni’s Dark Moon followed up by Stars of Ruins several times

So I thought we were doing every ending on this guide? It’s an amazingly thorough guide and I could be wrong but aren’t we now locked out of the frenzied flame ending since we just burned the erdtree with Melina? Love doing my 4th playthrough with this guide and seeing all the stuff I missed.

I sent you a separate email but just to recap here – made a boo boo and went and killed Malekith at the end of episode 134.
What am I looking at in terms of losing out 100% completion etc.?
Is there any way of resetting one’s progress checkpoints on the Xbox platform?
I’m really annoyed but there doesn’t seem to be much I can do.
Wish I had the time! I’m just taking a break while waiting for God of War Ragnarok, which I’ll do a 100% Walkthrough for. 😉

@Ben I can highly recommend Cyberpunk 2077 if you got a decent PC or a new gen console. If you got a PS5, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is just amazing. I have 100% Walkthroughs out for both games.

@Keeehlan No you can also jump on top of it to trigger it. You can also bump them while jumping on columns to trigger their movement.
