If you need guides for any other level range (or race) please check out this page.

Tips

If you don’t want to try our WoW Leveling Addon, here’s how to enjoy the paper version of the guides as much as possible, even if you don’t have a 2nd monitor, you can either:

1. Print the guides. There is a “Printer Friendly Version” link at the bottom of every guide, you just have to click on it. However, that might be expansive (and probably expensive), because the guides are big, very big. Another downside is that my guides are updated very frequently, so if you print it you’ll miss the latest updates.

2. Playing WOW in Windowed Mode feels very comfortable while following along with this guide.

• Keep the guide opened in an internet window
• Log in to World of Warcraft, press Escape and go to Video Options, tick the following boxes:

Click on “Apply”.

Your screen will look exactly as if you were playing wow in full screen mode, besides you will be able to ALT-TAB to the guide INSTANTLY.

This is how I play wow while following my guide, when I don’t feel like booting up my 2nd computer 🙂

Thanks!Hey there,

Just wanted to say thanks for writing such a great and complete guide. I’ve powerleveled a few Ally characters, but never played Horde past level 20 before. So when my brother asked me to level a Horde Priest for his guild, I knew I was going to need a guide if I was going to get to the Outlands as fast as we both wanted me to.

This guide was perfect! I’m now level 61 and enjoying BC from a different point of view, and I know guide writers like yourself don’t necessarily get the recognition they deserve. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t one of those people. 🙂

Thanks again, mate.

I got to 60 on my Priest with this guide in a short amount of time. I truly appreciate the work you put into this guide, because it definately helped a ton. If you ever come out with a guide for 61-70, I’d love to have a stab at it. 🙂

Again, thanks, this guide will surely help many others out there.

But then the horde guide came along and made me level super fast.
Only when i was 30 you weren’t finished with then 31-60 and so slow as a snail i got 70 with my first horde 🙂
Now i made another char which actually got past 20 and its using your 31-40 guide now but only a day or 2 back i was 21!
Now i have to get back leveling 😀

“Outdated” GuidesPlease keep up Jame’s old leveling guides once you’ve gone through and revamped them with the new quests! I’m not sure about anyone else, but I’ve found that since there’s less experience to level with and more quest exp per level, instead of coasting you literally fly due to the amount of experience the pre-2.13 guides packed into them.

There’s a couple parts that might be a little tough to solo, but in any kind of group it should be a breeze.

60-65I’m guessing he will put out a horde 60-65 once he is done with the alliance 65-70 guide. More people tend to play alliance so I’m guessing that’s why they get their outlands guide first.

Great guide Jame. Love using it. The only problem I have is when friends want to quest with me. They don’t understand that I don’t want to group up with them. I like to follow the guide step by step and if I’m questing with friends it all goes out of order.

Like the others I’ll be looking forward to the outlands version. I doubt it will be done in time for my horde though, I’m leveling really really fast!

Outleveling the GuideWith the changes in 2.3, I’m WAY out leveling the guide. I just dinged 60 at the start of the level 57 chapter. What is everyone else doing about this? Skipping some quests?

2.3 came out when I was in my late 40s, so I imagine the problem is worse if you start the guide at 50.

Never the less, this guide has been absolutely great and I’d like to give a huge thanks to Jame for providing it to everyone!

Most importantly, it means that when you hit level 70, you will still have a LOT of quests to do and will be able to finance your epic flying mount with ease.

Sage Words on OutlevelingThanks Jame for addressing the outleveling issue. Your guide was the fastest way to level prior to the patch, now it is even faster and more versatile. Simply amazing!

“What are other people doing about this?”? They are cranking through the levels with big smiles on their faces!

Keep up the good work Jame, you make the game playable.

Rib

P.S. Please don’t dumb down the revisions for the people who get confused if they are 2 levels higher than the guide.

Well…I agree that the faster levels are very nice, but I would not consider it dumbing down the guide to address the issue of out-leveling. There are several quests in the guide that have you killing gray monsters when you are 3 levels ahead of the guide. You would think you could skip that quest, but what if it is part of a chain? It throws off the whole flow.

Obviously this is not a deal breaker on an amazing guide, but it is worth looking at IMO.

I have read far too many comments complaining about mistakes Jame has made or things they don’t like about the guides. Ignore the mistakes. So what. Everyone makes them. As for what you don’t like, don’t do it or do it a different way. You don’t need to leave a comment talking about how you hate it. Keep it to yourself.

Jame and everyone at Wow-pro is doing us a huge favor. I for one am VERY greatful for the work that has been put into these guides. If it were not for them, I would still be in my 40s wondering what to do next. These guides gave me direction. Something, I felt, the game didn’t have a lot of pre-Outlands. Are you expecting that everybody is going to kill the EXACT same amount of monsters to achieve their quest objectives? Are you expecting that people are going to have the same amount of rested XP throughout their entire leveling career? Some people might kill more monsters on the way to their required destination than others. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Just want to chime in once again and mention what an asset Jame is to the WoW community at large.

I think it needs to be noted how kickass it is that he’s taking the time to update these based on 2.3 changes AND write Outland guides (no doubt helpful, but Outland being so small and the zone progression being pretty straightforward, no one could blame him for finding less selfless ways to spend his time than writing more new guides).

old guidesyeah, they still “work” somewhat.. but: you’ll be told to grind sometimes although you don’t have to, because you need less xp than the old guides are based on, and you’ll miss out some nice easy quests that were added in the new ones because they’re not group anymore etc..

so why not just use the new ones?

James,

First off, I wantedJames,

First off, I wanted to thank you so much for your guides. It made sound corny, but you made World of Warcraft fun again for me again. Prior to your guides all I used to do was grind and that got old quick. Now I actually feel like I am accomplishing something with your guides.

I had a quick question for you. I have used your horde guide and just dinged 60 this morning. I flew up to 60 but I ended up being about 4 levels ahead of the guide. Would you recommend for me to skip the rest of the guide and head to the outlands or finish up your guide? I printed up the printable version and I have about 20 pages left of the guide out of the entire 200.

Everyone has been telling me to ditch the old world and head to the expansion but I am little nervous about that because I have never been there and I have become so used to your guides.

Thanks for any input you may have and also, thanks for your help with these great guides!

Dan

What I would do if it wereWhat I would do if it were my character is finish the old world quests before going to Outland, as long as those quests are not grey, they are definitely worth it.

What you could do however is make a quick trip to the Outlands, do the first few quests because they give some very nice rewards which could make it easier for you. Then go back to finish the old world quest hubs.

ThanksYour bloody guide made me install wow again after 8 months of rest 😉

Thanks Dude…

PS. I just did this quest yesterday and there’s a change I think:

1. Take the quest [23] Vorsha the Lasher from Muglash, he’ll walk to the strand, follow him.

2. He’ll stop on a small island with a brazier atop. Click the brazier when he tells you to do so and get ready for 3 waves of monsters. You don’t have time to loot in between the waves, you just have enough time to drink/eat:

1. 1st wave: 3 Nagas, they are green to you so not so hard, but it’s still 3. Let Muglash tank one while you kill them one by one. Muglash is level 25 and can easily take one or two on his own. Try to save your long cooldown abilites and potions for the last wave if possible. As soon as the 3 nagas are defeated, eat/drink fast before the 2nd wave.

2. 2nd wave: 3 nagas again, one of them will be a naga priestess, kill that one first and try to interrupt her heals or you’ll be in trouble. Use potion/long cooldown abilities if you have to but try to keep it for the next wave. Let Muglash tank as much as possible again. eat / drink fast right after the nagas are dead.

3. 3rd wave: a level 22 Hydra named Vorsha will spawn and attack you, the hydra hits rather hard for a level 22, so use everything you got. If you die don’t release, Muglash should be able to finish off the hydra if you did enough damage to it before dying. Wait until you get the (complete) message, then release and run back to your corpse.

I had no wave 2… after wave 1, directly Hydra showed up. Maybe I was just lucky or they changed it…

Cheers

Maz }:)

Missing a Zone?I was just skimming thro the guide, since I’ve used this guide for a long time. But I noticed, or perhaps overlooked, there is no referance to questing in the Blast Lands anymore on the horde guide (not sure about alliance). Best I remember that part fell between 49-52 levels.

Is that intended or was it a glitch from re-skinning the guides?

• img
Jan 3, 2008 @ 20:30

It was intended.

ThereIt was intended. 🙂

There simply is too many quests out there now in that level range and we had to cut some circuits or we would have ended up too high level to do some other circuits.

That being said, please give the Horde some love with Outland. Even though questing there is fairly hardcore as it is, I can only imagine how much more so it would be in your hands.

Thank you for this brilliant guide, your guide defines synergy. Before this, I was probably one of the slowest levelers in the game; my first character, a night elf rogue took me 33 days and 5 long months to get to 60. Thanks to your guide, I was able to level a Tauren druid from 20-49 in 3 days and some odd ours. You have turned the most tedious, and frustrating parts of the game into a fun experience. And to top it all off it is free!! Thank you thank you thank you!

P.S. Hopefully, the outland guide will be out soon, I can’t wait to see what you did to that evil leveling deathtrap.

My two recent 70’s dinged at under 8 and a half days played, one at 8d 6h, the other at 8d 11h, while I may have a combined total of 80 days played amongst them. I love leveling characters, odd as that sounds, and being able to memorize your Guide for the most part, has helped me greatly. Great job as always, going to see if I can get a few Horde 70’s to finish off 1 70 of each class goal. ^.^

Duo ProblemsFirst thing, thanks sooo much for the guide, it must take incredible amounts of work to put something like this together. Second, here’s my problem^^ I play in a duo at all times with my friend (both hunters). We started your guide at lvl 23 but I had us start from the beginning anyways. We did fine for a while, but then when we were supposed to ding 30, I noticed we were behind, so I had us grind it out. Now, at the point where we are supposed to hit 31, we are almost 7K short. Could it be because every time there is a kill quest, we both get credit for each mob, but only half the exp? And if possible, could you tell me a way of fixing this problem? It’s my friends first time playing, I don’t want him to have to grind at the tail end of every lvl. Thanks a ton!

• img
Jan 22, 2008 @ 23:43

Yeah you hit it on the nail,Yeah you hit it on the nail, mostly when you need to kill things for kill lists in quests, you only get half the exp. What you can do to catch up though is run an instance whenever it is available in your level range (just get 2-3 more people and you’ll be fine). The additional quests from the dungeons will help you to catch up on exp and it’ll get you fat blues!

Try to skip a few questsTry to skip a few quests that don’t have follow ups to catch up with the guide. The reason why it’s bad to be in advance compared to the progress described in the guide is that some quests will be grey and won’t yield exp at all anymore.

Excited to use this to rush to 70I just found this guide and I’m pretty psyched about using it. I’m lvl 25(priest) so I’ll just pick up around there in the guide. So I was looking around there in the guide and I noticed the quest for helping Torek that I did yesterday.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~https://www.wow-pro.com/leveling_guides/james_horde_leveling_guide_chapter_i
7. Go further west on the other side of the road you should find a path to Silverwing Outpost (66,73). Kill all the nightelves on the path and inside the house, as soon as this is done, sprint back to Torek and start his quest. The way being clear, he’ll directly run to the house. When inside 4 elves will spawn – let the orcs tank them and focus on one, Torrek must survive so kill as fast as you can, and use all the abilities / consumables you have.
Note: If you are a healer this should be easy, you can heal the NPCs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My first instinct was to heal Torek since he needed to live. I’ve lvled a 70 priest before so I know that some npc’s can be buffed/healed and some can’t. I hit Torek with Power Word: Fortitude and Renew to see and it worked. Renew didn’t work on his guards though. Just a minor correction to the guide but every bit helps, right?

Just a thanks.I just felt that I HAD to thank you for all this work you’ve done for everyone. I played WoW for about 6 months once and managed to get a character to lvl 40. Then I left for a year and then went back, I took the old lvl 40 char to lvl 41, and rolled probably about 14 different alts!!! I kept getting bored, confused, and frustrated with the whole process. Since discovering your guides, it’s all different. I’ve rolled a new character and am already a lvl 46! In less than 1 month! I even feel assured enough now to bring a friend of mine into the game who is well, a bit older than the usual players^^ He’s from the before computer games era^^ And yet with your guide he’s only ever thrown up his hands in frustration once, and that was when I pushed him into an instance, lol. So, long story short, thanks soooo much. I was at the point of leaving the game for good, and I was sad about it. But now, it’s really just awesome! Thanks!

Jame’s Leveling GuideI recently opened a new account and decided to level up yet another hunter on the horde side. I can usually level myself rather quickly and have never had issues in the past, but I was pointed at this guide and decided to give it a shot. Long story short, I went from level 22 to level 29 over the past few days with very little time spent actually levelling. I would say that I spent 50% of the time doing auction house scanning, in transit or crafting. This guide is VERY effective. I even found myself doing quest chains I avoided because of either difficulty or annoyance of the PVP around me.

Nice work. I’ll more than likely use this guide throughout.

Great guides!Just had to drop by to say thank you.

I’ve leveled 2 chars side by side with these guides, another being at 60 now (still getting AV marks for the mount) and the other I got to lvl 67, tho your guide says ‘ding 65’.
Most likely because I followed the (old) guide in Azeroth until I was lvl 61½. You have very good and easy to understand content in your guides all along the way.

Now waiting for lvl 65-70 content, and as I’ve leveled chars to 70 before without guides, I clearly understand how much effortless it is with a guide like this. Playing in windowed mode on widescreen monitor, switching every then and that to see what’s next on the list. Ah! Simple life. So thank you for your effort to make our leveling experience easier. ^^

Great guide for a group of 3!Jame,

I would like to thank you so much for taking the time to write this guide. My two dormmates and I rerolled a Warrior, Rogue, and Paladin. We picked the guide up at level 21 after going through Ghostlands with no troubles.

I just followed the guide word for word and had my group follow.
We have not yet fallen behind, in fact we are usually half-way into the next level when you say we should ding.

Wish you included some of the really good EXP group quests, but this is meant for solo play anyways.
Just wanted to let everyone who is wondering about this guide or even if you, Jame, needed some hard data.

Group of Warrior, Rogue, and Paladin(Ret) are pounding out levels with ease, and haven’t fallen behind. This guide supports quest groups too, not just solo play.

Thanks again!

Great StuffI just decided to roll Horde after leveling 3 alliance to 70 (2 of them followed your guide) and decided to use your guide for *edit* Horde. I wanna say great work Snowflake, you have a great style when writing the revisions I enjoyed them a lot. However as soon as i entered realm of 60-65 I could tell I was back with Jame again. You guys both are both very good at what you do, and the whole experience was like I had done all this horde business before!! (which i have not)

One thing I would like to say, I understand why outlands take along time, because so far reading thru level 60-65 the quests are kinda like how I ran them without the guide… but the order you put them in just makes so much more sense.

One thing about the revisions… It’s a shame in some ways we dont get to run the instances as a manditory step because the instance guides you write were amazing too.

I babble… Thanks for the hard work and see you in Northrend 😀

Deadwood Ritual Totem QuestIf a Deadwood Ritual Totem drops while doing the quests in Felwood and Winterspring. I’d recommend you take the quest that goes with it, because by the time you’re done with the L57 part of the guide you’ll be neutral with the Timbermaw and the quest will be complete. Just delete the quest after you complete it, No need to talk with the mob inside the path from Felwood to Winterspring to ‘finish’ it either.

EDIT: I thought I posted this in the L51-60 section. Can this be moved there?

• img
Mar 11, 2008 @ 0:19

No, don’t drop it.Having a quest marked as “Complete” in your log does not mean you are done with it. You still need to turn it in, you just can’t turn that one in until you hit Neutral. Turning the quest in will give you 700 more Timbermaw rep and 8150 xp. Why would you not want to turn that in?

Now I am on my third go and am beating both of my previous /played records. This guide makes it simple and hassle-free to level up. I have used guides that cost money such as Joana’s, but if you look at what those are really based around, they are not for a typical, any class run through the game. This guide, however, is a blueprint for quick and efficient leveling. I can’t thank you enough Jame for making this guide. It has been a great help to myself and thousands of others.

Guide with instances.Heya Jame 🙂
First off, great guide. Started my Tauren Druid on the 21-31 one (29 atm)and he’s powering through the levels faster than I could have ever imagined tbh 🙂

One thing though, it could be an improvement actually? I’ve also ran a few instances with a few guildies whilst following the guide, and have found myself to be well, near enough dead on track woth the guide – I’ve only had to skip one section so far (the run of Stonetalon at level 27). I haven’t been killing everything I have run into so that’s also another area I’m losing out on the exp and so the instance is keeping me ‘topped up’.

Anyway, I thought maybe perhaps you’d be interested in either accomadating more group play and socialising in-game into your existing guide or adapting it into a second version for those of us who love to instance and such. The gear looted on the runs only makes the leveling go that much faster 😛

Either way I’d be glad to offer any feedback regarding this as I believe it would benefit more people – getting to use the awesome guide without sacrificing other social aspects of the game means smiles all round imo 🙂

Thanks a lot :)I’ve always hated levelling, at least 40-58. (have two characters left in those levels)

Well, I decided to Google some levelling guide since I thought that it would be faster. Now, since I’ve got my first horde character to 70 I can only thank you.(Drood in ~7 days played)
The best thing of this guide was that I didn’t have to use all my time in “thottbotting” the quest help. Also the fact that there are lots of more quests that I never knew made me happy.

First off I thought that “Well, I try to level to 58 with the guide and then start doing the Outland quests” – but since the guide was SO GREAT I had to just level to 60 in Azeroth and use the guide till 70.

I’m pretty sure I’m getting the epic mount (or form ^^) when I complete all the Outland quests.

I’ve to say that I can barely think that the chargeable levelling guides are better. This is just very good one. Hopefully u had fun making this though, I couldn’t believe free guides like these even exist.

No ConfidenceYour guide is excellent and I am not trying to insult leveling guides by saying this but as i’ve been reading some comments people seem to think they need to follow your guide word for word. Guides are excellent for when your stuck at places but i’ve been reading comments of people freaking if there not at where the guide says they should be and have followed the guide like it was the only way to level. I also understand some people may not have the ability to level efficiently like some people but regardless shouldn’t some of these people have the self confidence to try some things on there own or maybe even continue the guide even if it says you “lack experience”. All i’m trying to say is people need to have more confidence in what THEY can do as a player instead of what a guide tells them to do. Not insulting your guide but people just need to believe in themselves more.

21-31 Horde guide – Problem with Homeward Bound questI first want to say thank you for a fantastic guide…I just ran into a slight issue with one of the quests, and thought I would warn people.
2. Once you have done that, head to the southeastern corner inside Highperch, you should find a narrow path going up to another plateau, at the end of this plateau you should find a tauren named Pao’Ka with a quest. Take his quest [29] Homeward Bound and escort him out. It’s a pretty simple escort quest, shouldn’t be any problem.
I am certain that this would be easy in most circumstances. However; I am a bit unlucky. A rare elite named Heartrazor http://thottbot.com/c5934 is flying around where the escort takes place. Poa’Ka gets owned by him even with me healing him. Then he comes over and eats me for dessert. He seems to like the taste of Lion, Bear and Tauren, because he has eaten me in all 3 forms.

My advice, if he is there…forget the quest.

One big suggestionHey, I’ve wanted to use this guide ever since I found it at like 40, but I cannot, for one huge reason. Every time I try to use it, you have about 10 quests in a row that require a prerequisite quest, and I can’t ever find a spot where you can jump in at any time. If you could put points in the guide that are good to jump in to, that would really help.

• img
Juin 10, 2008 @ 18:21

That’s pretty difficult, ifThat’s pretty difficult, if not impossible, since there isn’t a single moment in the guide where the quest log is empty of quests overlapping from one zone to another. And it would overload the guide with a lot of extra infos, which would make it harder to read (it’s already quite bulky), and it would thus punish those who followed the guide faithfully from the start.

Therefore, I can’t do that. But what I can do is advise you where to start if you tell me approximately what’s your current situation (level, zones you’ve quested it, etc).

I can also give you this other advice: just jump in the guide at the beginning of a circuit close to your current level, and ignore the quests you can’t get. After a while, you’ll be back on track, and those quests won’t matter anymore.

Wat is it? Well its a quest mod not only for quests but it has a interesting feature that allows you to set waypoints on the map and when you do a arrow comes up on ur screen pointing you to the waypoint.

I thought this would help people who need to mark coords you set so they dont have to keep looking at there map to see if there going the right way.

Make your own PDF’s!Well, instead of waiting for Jame and the gang to do that work (and a lot of work it’d be), do it yourself! These guides go through several updates as time goes on, and making a downloadable PDF available would be out of date in little time. So…

Go read this article on PDFCreator, a freebie Windows add-on that puts a new printer on your printer selection list ->
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDFCreator – download and install it. Then, click on the “printer friendly” version button, and print the guide, but be sure to print to the PDFCreater printer instead of your regular printer. And now, instead of printing a dead-tree version of the guide, you’ll get your desired PDF!. This especially comes in handy for making a two-sided printing of the guilde, or printing just a few pages out of the guide. 8)

For those of you on Macs, you already have this PDF printing feature: when you go to print, look to the bottom left of the printing dialog window and find “PDF”. You can then save a copy of the guide as a PDF. This feature has been in Mac OS/X since version 10.2. Also true with Linux and the BDS’s if you have CUPS. Take -that-, Vista! :p

Great GuideI started using your guide when my druid was lvl 33. I went to the start of lvl 30 to pick up quests I was missing and carried on from there. It worked great. I did stop following the guide when I hit Outlands, because my guild ran me through and pushed me through instances to get me to 70.

I have a mage at lvl 30 and I am going to do the exact same with that one.

Thank you for creating a wonderful guide. This system works great when you have dual monitors or a second computer beside your gaming one.

the horde guideI just wanted to take the time to register to thank you for this guide. It was so easy to use.

I’d suggest this guide to anyone who wishes to get to level 60 (and beyond I am sure) with the quickest and easiest time possible. At lvl 58 I am now 5 days 3 hours played time. I’m sure if I hadn’t farted around so much lvl 1-20 as well as wasted all those hours in the AH and leveling my professions I could have done it in close to 4 days /played. (For example, I spent ALL of lvl 48 killing lvl 50 turtles for turtle scales for leatherworking. ugh.)

One suggestion I would make, is that you suggest the use of the ‘Questhelper’ addon. I would regularly alt/tab back to review the guide as to where to go exactly, or sometimes use thottbot. With Questhelper you just look at the map and the location of every quest you have is there. It shows you exactly where to go to kill mobs, get drops you need, find people etc etc and also where to turn the quest in. After I got the addon it helped speed things up a little more. Combined with the guide it made leveling a breeze!

thank you.

Fast~suggestionThis guide was really good and fast, but if I may add a suggestion once I entered Ashenvale at lvl 21 I was 4 bars from lvl 22.I saw a quest giver mark (!) on my mini map and went to it. It was an Orc with a quest to assault an alliance outpost. Well I was bored so i took the quest and it turned to get me 2 bars from lvl 22 and only took me about 5> minutes. If you don’t want to add it its fine with me but it might make something else easier.

There’s one mod that I thinkThere’s one mod that I think is absolutely great to use. It’s called mobmap. What it does, is you can look up where to find creatures, look up drop rates, where to buy recipes, etc. It’s good to show exactly the drop rates and such. Test it out, you may like it enough to add it to the addon section.

Ive got a problem…Ive leveled many characters since wow came out. But one thing I try to avoid is STV and instead level in desolace. I was suprised to see STV on the places to go. My lvl 33ish warrior could not do much quests in STV without getting ganked especially around Nessingwary’s camp.

It has taken me around 5 hours to do all the quests in STV because of alliance camping Nessingwary. I had to log out for the day because BGs had shut down and a lot of 70 alliance have decided to raid STV instead. Just my luck!

Maybe you could create an optional place to level instead of STV?

SuggestionThere is a easy questline that invloves goign places you are alredy going that should be added to your guide.
During the level 30 section, add a part at either the part when your going from TB->hearthstone->Org or Splintertree->Org (start of level 31)To stop at the cross roads and pick up the quest http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1145 then deliver it to the guy in orgrimar at the start of level 31 section for a easy 1450xp and pick up the follow up. Then turn in the follow up at the start of the 32 section when you are running to the shimmering flats for a easy 2150 xp, and pick up the follow up. If at the end of the 32 section you find yourself not 33 yet compleat the third section of this quest rather then killing random guys otherwise abandon it. (Its a hardish quest)

Also another thing you might want to add, is that at the end of the 31 section you can pick up the quest http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1361 then turn it in when your flying from Orgrimar too freewind post, for a measily 675xp, (not out of your way though) and pick up the follow up and turn it in whenever you reach the desolance level 37 section for another 675xp, really only worth 6 kills of XP but its really easy and quicker then killing the 6 guys.

Where to start =)Hey Jame, i’d first of all like to say Kudos to you on making such a fantastic looking free guide.

I’ve been using another outdated leveling guide up until this point, but it has alot of errors and I feel as though im running around way too much.

I’d like to ask you on your view of where I should START in your guide. I play Priest alongside a Mage friend of mine and we have been exclusively questing together in a Group since we started. We are now level 25, and we have done nearly ALL Stonetalon and Southern Barrens quests. Done 2 quests in Ashenvale and started in 1k needles (done message to freewind Post, alien egg, pacify the centaur, test of faith). We have NOT touched any quests in Hillsbrad though.

Bearing in mind I quest in a group, (and most of the time been behind the old guide in terms of xp and what lvl I ought to be when I finish a zone) where do you suggest I start on your guide. I’ve heard you say that being infront of your guide (lvl & xp-wise) is a good thing?

I look forward to your reply, and fully understand that it will take a while to get back on track to the guide when starting mid-way, but any pointers on a place to start would be greatly appreciated. ^^

Many thanks, Hirsch. 🙂

And yes, being ahead of the guide is a good thing. But if you fall behind it’s not so bad either, because since you duo you’ll probably have an easier time to do elite quests / instances to catch up.

Hey Jame!

Long time user ofHey Jame!

Long time user of your guide here, though just now getting around to signing up to add some comments 🙂

This guide is absolutely phenomenal, even before the revamp with the awesome maps! I have been using it ever since about level 50 on my alliance druid, and have since used it to level that to 62-ish (before the post-60 guides), another druid to 63, a warlock on a PvP server to 50 (my current main), and numerous other characters to the 35-40 range.

If there was one thing bad about this guide, it would have to be that it makes me level too fast to quest or instance with other lowbies, unless they happen to catch me just at the right time!

While taking time to level tailoring, mining, first aid, cooking, and even some fishing, I leveled my warlock on a PvP server to level 50 in under 5 days /played. There was also some significant BG play, random chatting, and leaving the game on while I went to eat or whatever.

Every time I re-use your guide, I see more additions and updates. Major props to you for keeping it up to date!

I cannot believe you are offering up this masterpiece for free, but people sure love you for it! Do you accept any form of donations?

My preferred addonsReading some of the comments, I thought I would post my recommendation of addons:

Carbonite Quests:
Carbonite Quests is something that seems to have been recently released, but it is an all-in-wonder addon. It includes the neatest implementation of maps I’ve seen – using the Google Earth style of scrolling and zooming.

In addition, it has what I feel is actually a better quest assistance mod than QuestHelper (Though your maps sometimes looks like someone took a box of origami paper and threw it at you. If that is overwhelming, you can right-click the map areas and select “stop tracking” to removing them.).

It’s not done yet, the addon also comes with it’s own quest mod, information-sharing add-in (even reports when you level to others using the mod if you want it too), and other small bonuses, like showing your current speed and keeping a “punk list” for PvP.

QuestIon:
What I feel is an awesome companion mod to this is called QuestIon. It is a quest mod that, once you get past a bit of a learning curve, is incredibly flexible. It also adds one key piece of functionality: It checks to see if the mob you are highlighting is related to any quest you are trying to complete (it’s not perfect, but gets a large percentage right, like 92-95%). If it is related, the quest objective appears as part of the mob’s tooltip! Occasionally you’ll get a good laugh too, like when you see that a hunter’s pet is needed for your quest to kill raptors 🙂

TinyTip:
Finally, a very simple addon that moves those tooltips out of they’re obnoxious home in the corner of the screen and onto your mouse, with lots of nice colorations based on friendliness and such, all while making them very small, is called TinyTip

It works perfectly, I even started at level 33 when I found out about it, and I have been able to seamlessly hop right in, and I’m already level 46 after about 2 days of playing! I end up leveling more quickly than the guide says at the beginning of each chapter and by chapters’ end I am dead on! ell, first of all, let meWell, first of all, let me just tell you that being ahead of my guide in levels is actually a good thing, so don’t worry about it. Unless the quests make you kill grey mobs, you shouldn’t skip anything. Just skip the optional circuits when there are some. If the quests are grey, what you can do is quickly check if the quest has a follow up (or several follow ups). If it doesn’t, just abandon the quest and move on.

Just use the search function (CTRL + F) and type the name of the quest and you’ll quickly find out if it’s part of a chain or not. You can also look that up on wowhead.com.

Thanks once againI have thanked you before, but thought I could do it again.

I have tried out your guide for both Horde and Alliance now and they speed up my leveling process so much. I`m the kind of person who wants to do it my own way the first time though, so I leveled up my first character to 70 by my own before I started using guides for my alts. Now I used your Alliance guide from 20 to 60 on a shaman, Horde guide from 30 to 60 on a paladin and previously I did it on a hunter (started with Snowflake’s blood elf guide and then moved over to yours). The hunter was level 41 last wednesday and got 60 this wednesday. I`m currently using your Outland guide and this far it’s very useful. Keep up the good work.

PS. I won’t use your Northrend guide before I have done it once myself first though. 😉

No problem at all. It’s funNo problem at all. It’s fun to level up alts. I currently have an alt of almost every level range (10/20/30/40/50/60/70) and pop in on those I want to do some circuits on. When I leveled up my latest alt, the blood elf hunter (currently level 64), I kept comparing my leveling range with my guild mates. One of them was 56 when I was 35 and when I was 64, he was 62. All thanks to the leveling guides.

You write that you’re planning to do class specific guides? Are you also planning on modifying the guides to have professions taken into account? “How to NOT level past your mining” for example. On the other hand, maybe too many variations of the guides would only lead to one big mess of it all.

It’s just as you said, I’mIt’s just as you said, I’m currently debating it. Tradeskills are really subjective to what one wants to do with his character. If one wants to just be as powerful as possible, one will go for enchanting for the ring / neck enchants for example. If one wants to make money while leveling, they’d go for gathering skills.

So I don’t want to force any tradeskill on any class and for now I’ll just leave them aside and simply focus on other things.

Linked AccountsEllo James.

I have been following your guides for nearly two years [I think two years] and really do think they are the best “inventions” since sliced bread. 😀

Now, recently a friend of mine was like – “I want to play WoW…” and I was like – “Ok, lets link our accounts.” and so we linked accounts. As you may figure, the EXP rate is a bit of a joke. One level every 30 – 40 mins, depending on how well we are playing. I have been using you guide as well so… ^_^

We are now level 42… and I am still following the level 38 section of Horde guide. What would you recommend I do? Should I follow as normal? Or skip sections every so often?

Anyways, thanks for these great guides. They have been blessings in disguise over the past few years.

Yours

PS… I can’t form questions terribly well. 😛

60-70 after WoTLK Drops?Hey Jame, just want to first of all say, that your guides are an absolute god send for some one trying to catch up after getting a late start at the game.

Just wondering if you were going to work on a 60-70 guide for after WoTLK drops and they change the exp rate to make those levels quicker? (Or is that basically the Death Knight 60-70 guide that you have in the works?)

Just wondering because I just hit outlands, and if so I will probably start an alt, un till the exp rates are lowered.

• img
Oct 2, 2008 @ 8:29

Hey, thank you

Actually,Hey, thank you 🙂

Actually, there’s no reason for me to change my guides after they change the exp rate. The only thing I will change is tell people that they’re free to go to Northrend when they hit level 70 while following my outland guide. They can also finish the outland circuits and get close to level 71 before going to Northrend, that’s also a good choice.

The only thing that matters is how much XP/hour you get from following my guides. And there’s pretty much nothing I can do to increase the XP/hour rate in my outland guides, so they’ll be just as good as before even when they change the xp curves for 60-70.

Hey, glad your pops likesHey, glad your pops likes the guide! 8)

About your question:

First you should do the first batch of quests from Booty Bay.

Look for this line at level 33:

“Then take the boat to Booty Bay.”

Follow the guide from there until the end of the booty bay circuits (around lvl 34).

Then jump to the level 37. There’ll be a few quests you miss, but just ignore those.

I have used your guide once before to lvl my rogue up to 70 (and he currently has reached that goal + full s2 gear 😛 ). Recently a buddy of mine has shared his beta account with me and because of playing the wotlk beta i have decided to roll a warrior and have gotten him up to lvl 29 so far (lvl 30 very soon). I have decided because your guide is so helpful and awesome to use it once more but I was wondering if you can tell me where in the guide i should start off in? And by the way I just started the XP circut in shimmering flats in 1000 needles. i know you get tons of people asking the same question but i was hoping for a specific answer. TYVM ahead of time and love the guide

YouMeh, I don’t know :p

You could do the last circuit of the previous chapter in Ashenvale.

Look for this line:
1. Fly to Splintertree Post. Make the inn your home. Take [30] Destroy the Legion from Valusha.
And then just follow the 31-41 chapter, if there’s any quest you miss from the previous chapter, just ignore them, you’ll catch up with the guide at some point anyway, it’s made that way :p

I made my druid on June 23, got him to 20 (on the free trial) using the guides on this website, then I bought WoW and went from there. He’ll probably be my only 70, and sooner or later my only 80. I’ll admit since I have a month to do heroics and stuff before WoTLK, It’ll be alot different without you “telling me where to go,” but I’m sure I’ll get by. Well, this sucks.By the time I stumbled on this guide, I’d already purchased the paid Alliance and Horde guides (being an altaholic, I was becoming frustrated that I couldn’t seem to level efficiently–desperation FTL?), and while those guides are fantastic, this one is fantastic and I didn’t have to drop 30-something bucks for them first.

🙁

AND you go to Hillsbrad.

The only thing I could suggest, maybe, would maybe be adding links to the quests. But, since you have nice, shiny images that show you where to go, anyway, I imagine it would hardly be worth the effort. Anyway, great guides, I hope to get some use of them! Outlands Gold QuestsHi James,
I made it to 70 and was wondering this. You mentioned that you guide would avoid going to netherstorm and shadowmoon as they have good gold pay outs for the quests once a person in level 70. My question is do you have a guide to do those areas as I found that doing your guides even though I didnt level as fast ie doing professions etc. ( my fault not the guides)gave really good structure to the leveling process. If you do have guides for the quest in that area or can recommend some that would be fantastic. :-)Well back to pvp Angryrogue.

• img
Oct 25, 2008 @ 9:30

Sadly not yet. My guidesSadly not yet. My guides only cover about half of the Netherstorm quests, and none of the SMV quests, so you’ll be on your own for these, until I release extra circuits for these zones (will do it in the future, after WotLK leveling guides).

7 days /played on average7 days /played on average from 1 to 70, without zero rested bonus. With rested bonus you can probably lower it down to 6 days /played. That’s of course if you don’t waste time doing tradeskills, AH browsing, pvp, or whatever that gets in the way of questing.

A couple things you may want to add to your guide. I’ve followed the 60-65 thru completion, and because of the new outland xp change im level 68 at the end of it. I’m going to keep going thru the 65-70 step for step because its easy. Anyways back to my point, because i’ve followed step by step, you may want to add in your guides that if you do follow it step for step you will end up with the Hellfire and Zangamarsh quest achievements. That must be all the groupsThat must be all the groups quests and that long quest chain involving thrall.

I think I’ll revamp my Outland guides a little in the future to include 100% of the quests, for achievement addicts 🙂

Did you do the ring of blood? 6 quests.
All the nesingwary group quests? 4 quests.

These are optional in my guide, but it would get you quite close already.

There’s also that other 3-man chain with Atruis the Suffer (about 6 more quests). Not included in my guide.

And there’s also those other groups quests with the ogre king and also that big elemental.

Durn the hungerer would also add one.

And then there’s the thrall chain, I won’t bother counting that one, but that should definitely give the achievement.

It’s just too bad I can’t include these in the normal leveling guide, because you can’t solo those quests and finding a group is getting harder and harder for old zones.

• img

I haven’t done the Altruis ones or the ones with Thrall yet. I seem to also remember one that sends you under Oshu’gon but that may be the one with Thrall.

You can even follow the outland guides until you finish them, that will get you level 71, possibly level 72 before going to Northrend, and that will make everything a breeze.

Anyway I have a problem, I was planning to start from Borean Tundra because I really like that zone and I would like to check nexus out , I am on horde side. But here is the problem, your horde guide starts from Howling fjord so I tought that is it harder to level in howling fjord than in Borean tundra or did you just choose it to be first zone your are in because you like it? Thanks 🙂

I’ve been using your guides for as long as I can remember, since there was only the alliance one. I was wondering when your Grizzly Hills guide would be up? I’m level 74 and haven’t started Dragonblight yet (used your guide, only did 1 Nexus and 1 UK run, 0 grinding) and don’t want to have to fend for myself. So any word would be nice.

Thank you!Just wanted to say thank you for your wonderful guides Jame!

I had to take a long hiatus from WoW(about 2 years lol)and when I came back about 6 months ago, I found my friends had moved to another server and created characters on Horde side. Having to start from the ground up again I thought about looking up a leveling guide to speed things up. Some quick searching found either everything had to be paid for, or was free but horribly vague and still left much of the quest information up to me to figure out.

Then I found your guides, and I am so very happy I did! You offer easier step-by-step and more in-depth questing information than any other guide out there… and offer it for free! Following Snowflake/Hosho’s beginner guides and your 21-70 guides, I managed to get my Mage and Warrior both to 70 in 7-9days /played time each!

I’m currently following your Northrend guides and am thankful you’ve made them so quickly or else I’d probly have missed out on some hilariously funny quests. Such as the DEHTA quest where you put on a murloc suit. Best. Quest. Ever.

Thank you again Jame!

Leveling RateJames,

I first wanted to say thank you for all your efforts, you are a great asset to the WoW community.

Now on to my question, in your “Optimized Quest Circuits” page, you state that you can achieve 620000 XP/hour are these numbers based on the Wotlk beta or are you getting these on patch 3.0.3? I am no where near those numbers (~200000/hr or 8-9hrs/lvl). I’m just wondering what I’m doing wrong.

• img
Nov 24, 2008 @ 19:01

Keep in mind that he didKeep in mind that he did that xp rate with a very good geared rogue on the beta, but I think that you can actually do better than 200k xp / hour. Maybe it is because of the overpopulation or you might took some time for level the professions? I think that anyone can aim to 400k xp/hour with some good sessions!

• img
Nov 25, 2008 @ 1:27

Exactly what BenhirExactly what Benhir said.

On beta I was really all alone in Dragonblight when I did that circuit, I had no competition at all for the mobs, which speeds things up.

The rogue was in full epics from BT/Sunwell, which helped too.

However, on live I’m still staying in above 400K XP/hour most of the time and peaking at 500K sometimes. That’s with the hunter and with the mage (in quest greens).

I think it has a lot to do with how you follow my guides: Are you on a PvP server? Do you play during peak times with lots of overcrowding? Do you have gathering skills?

And also, if this is your fist time following my guide and doing those quests, it’s normal that you don’t do them as fast as me, since I know them pretty much by heart already.

The 2nd time you’ll follow my guide, for your alts, you’ll see how much faster you’ll level 😉

Have you ever thought of creating a Jame’s Levelling Guide Addon?
It wouldn’t need to be anything flashy, just your guide uploaded into the game so it can be viewed more easily.
Or, if you like Flashy, you could make it kind of like Quest helper, except that it tells you what to do according to your guide.

To Silverchief andTo Silverchief and tribe:

Jame will first continue writing and complete his Northrend Guides. After that, or atleast that’s what I picked up from what he was saying, he’s going to make an in-game addon for his guides.

The main problem is that he has so much work to do, writing his guides, leveling his own characters and of course RL! You should just frequently check the site on any news about the addon, or an ETA on when it will be released 🙂

For those that don’t know what I mean by an in-game addon, it is meant to make the leveling process even faster. You won’t have to ALT+tab out of the game everytime you need read the next part. This will also eliminate the issue of being in Windowed Mode! 🙂

Wintergrasp.I think it is worth mentioning that whenever your faction wins at Wintergrasp (PvP area of Northrend, even if you are on a PvE server you’ll be marked as PvP upon your entrance in the are) you will gain a buff that increase experience gained by 5% from all sources. That is a nice buff if mixed up with rested xp. 🙂

Glad to see you keep these guides for free, blah blah blah.. Can’t wait for more from you, especially the in-game add-on. I use your guidesI use your guides differently than most people, I assume, Jame. I use it as a guideline, as in, just using it to find quests/quest-hubs. I’m the kind of player who cannot stick to a certain way of doing things. While it’s slower, I find it more enjoyable, and overall, more chances to throw an instance in.

Anyways, I made a troll hunter a while back and got him to 40… Now I am sitting at 40 and looking at your 41-51 guide and I am so overwhelmed. Should I go and ding 41 first?? I already did all the Safari quests in STV a while back. Where should I be? Also a bunch of the quests you mentioned in the 41-51 guide that I should have in my Quest log are not there… I am stuck and would love some help….

Other than that, keep it up bud!

Just jump in the guideJust jump in the guide somewhere close to your level and in an area where you haven’t done all the quests.

If you’re behind in levels, it’s realy no problem, you’ll catch up eventually, trust me, I’ve made the guides that way 😉

If you’re ahead in levels, that’s great. Don’t skip anything unless the quests become grey to you.

FeedbackWell, what can I say? Once again, your Northrend guides have knocked me unconcious due to their excellence.

I started out on my Paladin. Who had rested exp from 70-73. So that obviously gave a boost, aswell as the Wintergrasp Essence buff you get if your faction controls Wintergrasp.

Other than that: I started out, at level 70 with 41 days played. I am now level 77, at 43.5 days played. And that was with RL interruptions (With me forgetting to log out) and random ingame stuff that didnt include leveling.
Not to mention, I still have a good chunk of your Dragonblight guide to finish. Hopefully this will take me near, or to, level 78.

So thats, 3 Zones I will have completed.

Grizzly Hills should hopefully take me from 78-80.
So, that’s four zones completed, and five zones left for cash.
WUT???!?!?!? 0.0
There’s 350 Quests total, according to the achievements..
Multiply that by, what, 15? 5250.
Plus all the drops and stuff, vendor loot, etc, I’d say 6000/7000 is waiting.

So, not only is your Northrend guide a leveling guide, I guess it is also a gold making guide, too, in a sense.

If you follow Jame’s guide with rested exp, you’ll be riding that mammoth in no time (:

Finishing Outland after hitting 70.I hit 70 after turning in the first couple quests at the safari in Nagrand. Then hit 71 after turning in the last quests at the safari in Nagrand. This was with full rested xp the whole time, also I ran one instance. I then went to blade edge mountains and netherstorm and finished both of them. I am at 72.66 now and I am debating whether to go to northrend of finish netherstorm/shadowmoon valley. I was browsing the northrend guilds and I am worried that some of the quests will be too low level for me if I finish outland. I have about a half a level of rested xp as of right now. Also thanks for the great guilds, I have used them since about lvl 30 (though I remember not being able to do any hillsbrad quests because of the insane amount of gankers on my server)

I think that followingI think that following jame’s guides is fine, no need to do SMV and the rest of Netherstorm. Being ahead of the guide is fine, but being too ahead means also some gray quests which are ineficcent 😛 I think you should go on with Nothrend guides and you will eventually ding 80 in Grizzly Hills (or even Dragonblight if you keep the rested+instance method). This way you’ll have 60% of Northrend quest worth a lot of money , you are lucky 🙂

What I’m wondering is – once you’ve finished your guides to 80 for both factions, what are you going to do? Any possibility of updating your outland guides for us achievement junkies? Or maybe a short guide pointing out some quests in each zone that are outside of the main quest hubs that are likely to be missed?

For now, I know that the zone quest achievements for all Northrend zones will be done.

For Outland, my guides get you the zone quest achievement, with the exception of Nagrand (because of a missing quest line starting from SMV).

For the old world zones, I’m not sure I haven’t tried, but it must be really close, as I’ve tried to include most quests everytime.

It’s kind of surprising howIt’s kind of surprising how far away one lands from the Loremaster achievements upon hitting 60. It only takes 700 or so quests to get to 60 generally, while Loremaster of the two old continents combined add up to 1250 quests. Of course, the problem with integrating them into a leveling guide (just old world, Outland and Northrend don’t share this problem) are the large number of quests that are colossal wastes of time and effort while leveling – quests that send you all the way around the world, for instance, and integrating them into one’s path on the way to 60 would add up to adding a few days /played to the time. Sadly, Loremaster works as the very opposite to “optimised quest circuits.”

Pretty good.Overall, pretty good. I definitely feel as if I’m being more efficient, even if it’s not the case (I don’t keep track of hp/hour, /played, stuff like that, so I have no numbers to compare this char to past chars).

Just a few comments about the guide from my experience, so far (34).

I’m 34 now, and have followed the guide verbatim from 21. Only once have I actually been within a thousand XP of the level when the guide says “you should be level X.” And in some cases, I am about a half a level behind where the guide says I should be. Right now is one of the most extreme, and this prompted me to post. I did the entire level 34 guide, and have approximately 25,000 xp left to ding (out of approximately 51,000).

From 21, I’ve always made myself be at the level that the next part of said guide said I should be at, which generally involved about a fourth of a level grind after I completed the quests that particular section said to do. While I’m not killing everything in site, I’m surely not avoiding a fourth of a level of XP from mobs. If the guides assume that I should be killing 80-100 more mobs a level than I am, the guide should say so. I’m even doing extra quests, and am still considerably behind where the guide says I should be.

As of 3.0.2, I think the guide, at least up through the 30’s, should be bulked up, simply from my experience. I hope the following levels don’t leave me with this deficiency after I’ve completed, verbatim, the quests as they are presented. I know I could keep going, but eventually I’m going to fall 3 or 4 levels behind, and I don’t want to be trying to kill mobs that are 4 levels higher than me to complete a quest.

Just a note, and maybe my luck has just been phenomenal throughout this chars leveling experience, but I have to think that blizzard upped the drop rate of a lot of quest items that used to take forever to drop, probably because of the new quest acheivements. Some examples are Hecular’s Sword (within the first 10 kills, never got it within the first 25 the 5 or 6 times I’ve done it in the past), Hecular’s Rod (again, within the first few kills, always had to clear the entire cave out atleast once, if not twice to get it to drop in the past). And this is the case will all the rarish quest drops. They are all dropping considerably faster. As such, I’m getting less XP from grinding the mobs for the quest item (which makes it seem like there is an end), and being forced to grind simply to grind (which I flat out do not enjoy).

• img
Déc 29, 2008 @ 15:22

Yea, it’s that, the dropYea, it’s that, the drop rates on many quest items in the 20-40 bracket has been significantly upped.

Don’t worry though, there are tons of extra circuits coming up in the following chapters of my guide and you’ll end up being far ahead of the recommended level, no matter what.

Just keep going and thank you for your feedback. I’ll fix the exp discrepancies in my next revamp 🙂

Configuration addon for MonkeyQuest

Lightheaded
This addon adds a panel to your quest log window that connects to WowHead (saves you from Alt-Tabbing and opening up a browser.

DoubleWide
Creates a separate pane in the quest log window so you don’t have to scroll to see all your quests or information about the selected quest.

Titan Panel
This has a TON of features, but its primary use is to de-clutter the UI by putting information like location, zone, XP, etc into a taskbar style window that you can customize.

The only message that I have about addons are Musicplayer and Ignoremore do a lot to keep things moving. Musicplayer plus your mp3 library is full of nothing but win. And Ignoremore means that tards no longer fill tradechan with Anal [insert generic name here] anymore. Lastly, if you have to use Ignoremore in your own guild more than twice, get a different guild.

VisualsHello Jame
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your guides compared to some others, even the ones i’ve paid for!
Yours are so much more detailed and in my opinion easier to follow with less (if any) errors.
I especially like how you’ve incorporated pictures into the guides which make life SO much easier.
A quest telling me to fins so many of “X” is ok but a picture of what “X” actually looks like helps me tremendously.
I’m now levelling my 2nd character from 70-80 using your guides and 2nd time round it’s even easier.

Thanks Jame 🙂

1-77 played.Jame,
Your guides are a Gods gift!
Recently I decided to re-roll server and see what kind of played time I could level a paladin in.
Although I havn’t dinged 80 yet (I’m 77, just finished Grizzly Hills) and thought I’d show my played time for some feedback.

It would have been a lot lower but I spent time playing the AH, AFK’ing and making small mistakes like forgetting to turn in a Q and having to run back.

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/4547/wowscrnshot012409001037rt8.jpg

I don’t think it’s too bad for a first time horde player. Used the TourGuide version of your guide for 60-77 and I must say, it works extremely well.

Hey that’s awesome. So 1-77Hey that’s awesome. So 1-77 in only 7 days /played, even though you played the AH and goofed around a little?

Considering it takes about 4 hours per level in Northrend while following my guide, it’s safe to assume one could hit level 80 under 8 days /played while following leveling addon from 1-80, without pushing it.

Great news, thanks for your feedback!

If you followed the guide toIf you followed the guide to 77, you should at least be 78-79 by now (I was 79). Go to K3 (goblin town) in Storm Peaks, do the quest chains, that will take you to a bunch of quests in Brunnhildar which then will lead you to Dun Niffelem…that should make you 80…after that you can do the quests at Tunka’lo (Horde) and the Grom’arsh Crash Site…it’s an incredibly easy (and fun) zone to quest in. Make sure you have your epic flyer, you’ll be doing a lot of traveling.

For now, he is concentrating on perfecting the addon before writing the later guides. However he does suggest an order to do the zones: After you finish Grizzley Hills, move on to Zul’Drak, then Sholazar, then Storm Peaks, and finally Icecrown. Honestly it should be pretty easy to ding 80, I was 80 *long* before I got to Icecrown. The quests in this expansion are also pretty good at leading you to the next area, you just won’t be quite as efficient without Jame’s expert advice!

TomTom Distance EstimatesI’m not sure what the problem is but, ever since I started on the lvl 21+ guides, the distance estimates given by the TomTom arrow have been off by a significant margin. For instance, I will be in the entry to the Ruins of Lordaeron, and the arrow will indicate that the UC FP is 3500+ yards away. Around the same time, I will be leaving UC to go to the Sepulcher for the first time and it indicates that, from the entry to the Ruins of Lordaeron, the Silverpine Forest is 3000 yards away and in the direction of Alterac or Dalaran. It would seem that the markers used for estimating distances have to be rechecked.

If not, it’s probably because someone forgot a |Z| zone tag. If they do point to the right place, well then something funny is going on but honestly distance estimates isn’t the most important thing about them, it’s whether they get you where you are supposed to go 😉

Every chance I get, i let all my friends know about your guide. I tell people about you in general chat, trade chat, in random groups. I’m sure they love your guide too. Thanks to everyone who have been making this guide, you guys have made my WoW experience a million times better.

Latest toon (full wotlk levelling)Hey, I’ve played a little paladin on TR lately and I quite liked the playstyle (oh, well, and the OPness 😉 ), and therefore I decided a few days ago, my next toon would be one of those. Nice thing is, i didn’t have one already, so I could enjoy the whole process of wotlk levelling and so I rolled a paladin and hit 80 at 4d 1h 30min /played (pvp server! 😉 ). (http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/6559/69006439.jpg, if you want to see the final score screen^^, yes i have Heartstone keybinded xD )
That is without much rested bonus (I didn’t specifically log out in the open world but the char was levelled over a two week span so not much time to accumulate rested exp ;)), and without taglevelling or friends instance rushing me or sth.
Just doing the current hordelevelling guide. Belf start area > barrens and standart horde guide > outlands after western plaguelands (lvl 60) > northrend after nagrand (69.XX 🙁 ) > sholazar > zul’drak (used alliance version of tekkub’s guide there, as both zones are completly neutral anyways, sholazar first because well… you never know when Jame might release zul’drak^^)
So whag made the time so nice?
– Gear was pretty good: from level 15 onwards I used BOA Axe (enchanted with crusader) and the shoulders (not enchanted due to lazyness 😉 ), all other gear was only questrewards.
– Exorzism infused paladins are beasts. A complete spike of CS, Judgement, Exorzism and divine storm is usually enough to drop the mob or at least get it in hammer range, if one is on CD, one melee hit will have a similar effect, just takes a tad longer. Regen is not needed at all due to judgements of the wise. Elite quests are easy as hell, just hit it till it dies (or kite with Judgement of Justice, if necessary (Breaking through final boss, Giants in howling fjord, …)
– I have quite a bit of experience in speed levelling (2 80s, several 6x to 7x on both factions (now 3 80s 😉 ))

Still that time is about 3-4 days faster than I thought I could possibly do, so I decided to share it with you 😉

Concerning paladin: Yes, it is strangely fun to spike mobs/players in 5 to 10 seconds (:

Recruit a Friend?I have been using your guide for over two years now, first on Alliance and now on Horde, and have loved it. I recently recruited a friend to warcraft, and would love to recruit him to your guides as well, but I am curious as to how you suggest handling the fact that we will be leveling three times as fast. On top of the fast speed your guide provides, we could theoretically finish in just over a day playtime. Should we continue to follow the ‘go until grey’ rule, and then just skip ahead to our appropriate level once again? Or skip specific lower exp-rate sections? Or since there will always be two of us, skip to a bit ahead of our current level, skipping any areas that we hate?

Also, I have been enjoying the addon addition of the guide recently, and while, compared to QuestHelper, it is significantly more accurate, there are a few points at which it has either seemed to cause a few glitches, or I have found the notes deficient or absent and have had to resort to using LightHeaded. Is there any way that we are able to assist you with this, or at modify it for our own personal benefit if you have more ‘help’ than you really need? I could see it being beneficial to many of us, for example, to somehow mark less beneficial quests, or quests that have no followups. But if there is anything in particular that I/we could be of assistance of as far as the addon goes, please tell. 🙂

• img
Mai 7, 2009 @ 23:02

For part 1 of your question:For part 1 of your question: Skipping to higher XP rate sections would be best, but I don’t really know which are the highest XP rate. Perhaps I will do a better job of recording this as I level and make a list somewhere, that could be helpful. For now, I recommend skipping any zones you dislike (as long as you don’t go above your level in the guide) – this should help you keep pace.

For part 2: You can report glitches/bugs/missing information on our Bug Reporting page. For specific suggestions, you can just leave a comment pretty much anywhere, but the works in progress page would be the best place.

Thanks for the great feedback and questions, hope you and your friend have a great time with the guides!

thatthat quest starts in thrallmar, from .. nazgrel or whatever (the big guy in the big building)

its called “the assassin” (the first part of the chain)

try looking around on wowhead for follow ups.

it has nothing to do with cenarion expedition

i’ve noticed a bug in the addon / guides

sometimes it automatically ticks off parts of the guide even though you havnt done it.
so you’ll be heading to places you shouldnt yet.
i can remember this happend in a certain place during that salmophlange quest thingie, in the barrens. it completely skipped the part about killing the goblin who has the key..

weird though. i hope that bug is a part of tourguide, and easily fixed (coz fixing X amount of guides can take alot of time :P)

Juin 11, 2009 @ 17:49

Sometimes this happensSometimes this happens because of an error in our coding (I think the samophlange one was an example of this). However sometimes I truly cannot find the reason for the step skipping, after having checked the coding multiple times.

If you discover any specific instances of this happening, please post here with the details and we’ll look into it. Thanks 🙂

I have actually found thisI have actually found this to happen alot in the Dwarve/Gnome leveling guide. I am currently leveling both a Dwarve hunter and a Gnome warlock and there have been several steps (in the 6-8 level area) where quests tick off and jump ahead. Also I find that a majority of quests and steps in the 1-6 level range have to be ticked manually to continue.

My DKHey Jame, my DK is currently level 76 and I am 50% through your Dragonblight guide. I was thinking of going somewhere where there is a lot of Saronite ore instead of Cobalt ore because I want to level my mining and blacksmithing at the same time as leveling and also make myself tanking and dps sets. What level would you recommend I go, where and when (Eg, after all your guides, after Dragonblight etc.)

PS. I love your guides.

Well, not being Jame I can’tWell, not being Jame I can’t give you the best answer 😉 But I can tell you this: There is no Saronite in the areas that Jame has guides for currently. If you want to skip ahead to Icecrown or Stormpeaks, go ahead – do what makes the most sense for your character (Also, Icecrown quests are super fun!). You may not level as efficiently without the guides but you’ll be getting an important resource for yourself as you go. You can always come back and go through the guides at level 80 to make great cash from the quests (and work towards achievements).

Hope that help, at least a little!

Noob experienceJame – yo’re a star.

My first character was Horde undead rogue and he hit lvl 80 this week.

I used the Northrend guides from level 70 upwards. I always had rest experience (i only play 2-3 hrs a night), did very few group quests/dungeons, did plenty of the dailies in GH (especially those around the ships – 80k XP for 10 mins work) and finally ran out of guide just after reaching lvl 78. I moved to SB and did the Nessingway quests and then moved to Icecrown and dinged 80 not long after doing the quests from the airship. Lighthearted is a great benefit for questing first timers.

I still have massive areas of Northrend to explore but it will be so much easier as a lvl 80.

The tips i can try and pass on as regards gold making are:
Play the AH – get Auctioneer (but dont always trust it) let it scan the AH over a couple of weeks to get an idea of prices, create yourself a banker (i got mine to lvl 20 so he could DE lots of stuff) and log him at the start and end of your play session. Concentrate on trade goods – weapons/armor etc do not always sell quickly. Do not get greedy – buy at less than 40% of market value (less than 20% ideally – there is enought to make it worthwhile) and do not try to sell at more than 80% (unless current availability dictates otherwise). By doing this i have been able to fund new equipment as i levelled – including mounts.

Thanks again – RW

Hi Drubin.

I wish I couldHi Drubin.

I wish I could give you more answers regarding the “old” addon (the one either using directly or heavily based on Tour Guide). However, I hadn’t been involved in that addon’s development and support for quite some time prior to it being discontinued. So I can’t really help you out there 🙁

As far as the new addon, it’s still pretty rough but I would expect a more open beta type version available within a month. We hope to have a polished, finished product before Cataclysm hits, but most people project that for late summer or fall so that’s a long way off. Regardless, we should have something use-able in a month, at most two.

• img
Juil 4, 2010 @ 22:47

I think that really depends.I think that really depends. At the moment the guides are not optimized for heirloom leveling.

What I do is simply hop into the guide whenever I get bored with instances, and vice versa. It may not be quite as fast as straight up instance grinding, but it’s more enjoyable for me.

• img
Sep 13, 2010 @ 16:38

Well, it takes me just aWell, it takes me just a little above 3 days to go from 1 to 80 by doing nothing but solo questing with heirlooms. (between 1.5 and 2 days for level 60). I’m pretty sure though, that I am amongst the fastest solo levelers out there (as far as I know, nobody has challenged my old time (http://jamewowpro.blogspot.com/2010/02/1-80-in-3-days-played-with-no-rested.html), which I have undercut by 6 or 7 hours by now (: )

So I guess, you’ll have to try for yourself. If speed leveling is your cup of tea, you’ll certainly see better times from solo questing… if not: just spamming dungeons has become pretty competive, so I suggest you’ll just do what seems most appealing to you for now
Note: jumping in and out the guide becomes a lot easier when you hit the burning crusade content. Simply doing one zone and then the next with a generous level range is pretty nice. (In the old world you gotta stay close to the recommended level since otherwise there’ll be some grey quests to you / some that are of annoying difficulty and quite a few quests require you to visit a different zone, which is fine if you want to do it anyways, but if you didn’t want to is probably a waste of time. BC / wotlk content is far more streamlined. Pick a zone, and you can simply quest in it, or stop it halfway through and still be able to progress to the next one without skipping a single quest in that one (should you chose to that is… Hellfire penisula is probably fair game till level 65 or sth 😀 )
Pretty stupid design, if you ask me… From bc content onwards quest rewards are always there, and you get pretty decent gear anyways, while my warlock for example replaced his green level 20 pants no earlier then level 60. Plus by level 60 all classes are pretty fast destroyers of mobs anyways (yay for exciting ultimate talents at the bottom of the talent tree):x
But whatever… NOW you can comfortably run dungeons without figuring out which parts of the zone you can safely skip without leaving out pre quests for later 😡

Uhm… after rereading i got to say this comes off a lot harsher then intended. The old world quests are pretty cool, too. And it is entirely possible to run a few dungeons here and there if one feels like it (I tried it, it works! 😀 ).

I have used both guides, theI have used both guides, the main difference i see between the two is what zygors guide calls dynamic leveling (or something), which basically means the guide checks what level you are, checks the level of the quest, if its a chain that would result in quests your level, etc and then decides whether its worth you taking or skipping the quests.  Whilst good in theory, there have been a few times that it has cocked up and skipped quests that are vital for other quests, or sent me all round the houses to get 1 quest that wasnt really worth it or i was unable to get as i skipped a prequest. The long and short of it is, both guides are VERY good, I have used Wow-Pro’s guides for a long time and have recommended them to several friends.  If you have the money to spare, give Zygors a go, but there isnt a HUGE difference, and personally I would rather save the money and get something that does the same job.. but for free. This is obv a ‘zygor review’ but hope you leave this post here as everyone is entitled to know what is out there (Plus.. i still say yours is better as its free 😀 )

Is leveling guides effective anymore?Me and my brother purchased Cataclysm a few months back and we played for about 2 months and then we quit, (not enough time to play). But my question is whether these leveling guides is effective anymore? I mean Blizzard have made it much more easier to do quests, its almost like they built in a leveling guide in the game.I remembered a few years back where leveling guides such as Dugi’s, and even the very popular at the time Joana’s were very effective and made a huge difference in leveling time. Is the difference really that big nowadays?
