Jame, I believe I asked youJame, I believe I asked you several months ago if you were interested in having me create a tourguide version. You rudely shrugged me off, saying that it would take away revenue from your advertisements. Now you are making your own version. I don’t know what the deal is here. I wanted to contribute just like everybody else, and do not understand why you took it upon yourself to decide that I was some kind of enemy.

I have a completed 1-70 alliance tourguide addon, and if you want me to share it, I will. I don’t care who takes credit for it. I also have an application that allows you to edit tourguide files in a wysiwyg-style GUI format. I can provide that as well as the source code.

But if you are going to delete this account like you deleted my other account on this site for some reason, then fine. I am not going to lose sleep over it. If I did anything to offend you before, I apologize about that and hope that we can start again new.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Nuzz.

I sincerely doubtHey Nuzz.

I sincerely doubt I rudely shrugged you off. It’s not my style to be rude, everyone knows that.

It’s true that in the past I refused when people offered to translate my guide in an addon. The main reason wasn’t me being afraid of it taking away advertisments. The main reason is that those guides are very dear to me and I originally wanted to do the addon part myself too, because I was worried that if someone else did it, I couldn’t keep the level of quality I wanted it to have.

Lately however I’ve realized that I would never make it on my own due to time constraints, and when Jahwo made a custom addon and let other people try it, I saw the positive reaction it got and how everyone was willing to help. So from that point I just thought “nevermind, I’ll just let the community help me on the addon part”.

And that’s how it all happened.

I don’t see why I would delete this account, you’ve come here and laid down your concerns in a polite manner. If your other account was deleted, it was either:

1. A mistake (and if it was, I’m sorry)
2. You broke one of the rules

In any case, you’re more than welcome here. So welcome 😉

Thank you very much forThank you very much for understanding. I am sorry for handling this immaturely in the past. I will put together a package of everything I have (including visual studio source code) for alliance and put it on rapidshare. My tourguide generator program can edit new guides and export them to lua format, but it cannot edit ‘guides’ that are already made. It has been tested thoroughly from 1-50 and works very well. 68-70 isn’t really done but the guide took me to 70 up to that point anyway

Got ’em. Just tried a fewGot ’em.

Just tried a few steps for the alliance tourguide file you made and honestly, it’s awesome as far as I can tell.

I’ll just replace the first few levels with other guides (Maw’s guide is just better than Joan’s, there’s way too much grinding in Joan’s human guide), but besides that it really looks perfect.

I’ll try your editor a bit later.

Jame said he posted itJame said he posted it somewhere on this site, but I can’t find it so I will post it here, I made an account on rapidshare so everyone can download

Feel free to modify it if you are a programmer or suggest any improvements (but it already does everything I need it to do so I dont think there is anything major to do with it).

Make sure that you do not have any carriage returns in the “notes” section or it will make the guide not work. I was lazy and did not add that into my program yet. Little things like that don’t matter much when only one person uses the program, but if anyone has any concerns let me know and I could fix any bugs if they are found.

I understand there were some people concerned about having more than one version of the guide. I will take a look at the other format and determine if there is a way to convert from one to the other. I like the idea of having more than one addon to choose from since some people like certain addons. If we need to expand any of the tourguide stuff it should be easier with this program. I will write a guide on how to use it eventually when I have time

Editing TemplateHello Jamie,

If you aregoing to support both addons, fantastic.
I also saw you approved of the idea of a template style editor online to rework your guide. Also Great.

If this is to work out, and all will keep updated,
i suggest we make a template on how to rewortk the guides.
So that it can all be put in the database and exported easally to different addons.

I would be VERY curious to the addon and wysywig editor mentions below. would be an awesome start to work with.
The we could input stuf like :
Accept quest ( type )
So we could see the questtype, And give it parts ( kill certain mobs ) and it would be almost instantly ready for export.

I think thatI think that it is a waste of time and energy to try to update and keep 2 programs current and up to date

I really prefer TourGuide version for all the reasons listed previously. As far as I am concerned, I can pull up James website in the background and refer to pictures if I need to…but from the quests I have done so far, I havent needed to.

Yes its nice to have 2 versions and let people choose…but there is SO much work to be done that it is MUCH better to focus on one and make it the best, then make it complete. It will get done much fster if all work on one then try to complete 2.

DKs rule…others drool

Your points are valid, butYour points are valid, but the problem is that we couldn’t decide which addon to pick, the poll was close to 50/50. A lot of work has already been done for both addons as well.

With all that said, it’s not a waste of time if people are happier with one addon or the other. What if some people don’t like the tourguide style but love the wow-pro custom style? Or vice versa.

It’s ok, the wow-pro community is ressourceful, both addons will reach near perfection soon enough, don’t worry about it 😉

TourGuide + Jame = Hell yeah!Ive Just downloaded and started using the TourGuide style addon togethor with TomTom. This is amazing. I’ve been using your guides for years Jame.. But i’ve always just printed them out and followed along as i played. This is way better, I love it.

I was so amazed that it didnt have any issues with my other addons as most stuff does.

Keep up the great work!

ForumHello Jamie,

Would it be an option to put a forum online for the guide editors and proggers.
I mean, a blog is fun and all that, but it isnt ideal for discussions.
Since we will be working on the addons and guid translations, it may be way easier to have a forum going, so every comment, question and update can be properly located and easy to vieuw back.
As it is now, i notice i read over the addon threads almost completely almost every time, missing posts, etcetera.
With it subcategorised in the different addons and then working / editing and maybe even per guide, more information can be gathered / added and sorted in much less time.

Jan 13, 2009 @ 13:44

Hmm, but we already have aHmm, but we already have a forum, there’s a link to it on the top menu.

I just created two new threads in the Guide Discussion forums section. One for each addon:

TourGuide Style

Jan 14, 2009 @ 9:03

well, i feel daft now.
Anyways, since it is in there, could you add notes to both guides that the discussion and questions about the guides should be in the forum.
That way people can leave regular comments and thats etcetera on the blog part, and soon as it goes techie, keep it sorted on the forum ?
Would make life easier i think.

Oh, btw, i started working on a web based interface for the guides, will be a while before it is ready tough.

I decided to try outI decided to try out TourGuide today (did the Horde Nagrand part) and I really love this! The addons aren’t complete to make it as smooth as the real guides, but with time and updates I`m sure they will be. What I missed is the TourGuide version but with wow-pro custom’s design. That would be epic. I look forward to continuing with the rest of the Horde Nagrand guide now on the character I tested with. Good stuff. I love it.

Hello everyoneIm pretty new to using leveling guides at all, but recently I decided to make myself shammy alt and wanted to try out James guides as they have been recommended to me by my friends. So it seems I actually came at nice time as there was those addon version released recently. So far I have to say – it is really great. But there is one problem I cant seem to solve by myself. Im using TourGuide version and at some points of questing, when it comes to “Get quest X” from NPC which is not near the location Im currently at, Im lost finding where they are and where to get my new quest to continue. So far I was just searching those quests at, clicking to Start NPC and typing their coords to TomTom. Is it just me that I cant see where to actually get these quests or is that because those guides are still in progress and those coords are missing? Turning in isnt problem as Im using QuestHelper, going to quest objectives is fine too as there were coords so far, but when in comes to getting new quest “in the middle of the jungle”, TourGuide wont help me. Am I missing something important?

Thank you for you help and for all the great job you guys doing!

• img
Jan 18, 2009 @ 16:57

Yes you’re missing somethingYes you’re missing something 😉 But I think it’s because it’s not explained somewhere…
If you install the addon Lightheaded, tourguide will automatically add coordinates to quetsigvers.

Jan 20, 2009 @ 17:24

Thank youThank you for your reply, it really works as it was intended now, I suppose. Way better! 🙂 Anyway, just if you curious – there was some info about Lightheaded in addons but I prolly havent noticed its required and most importantly missed the part with – it maps coords from Tourguide. So I just thought it “only” reads data about quests from and found it “not needed that bad”. Anyway, thank you, it works perfectly now.

AmazingThis is an amazing addition to one of the already best guides for WoW. Even if you’re a user of Quest Helper, Carbonite Quest or other questing addons, this still improves questing speed for me. Many thanks!

My Setup:
– Carbonite Quest
– Tour Guide
– WoW-Pro_TourGuide_Alliance file

Tour Guide is able to plot waypoints on the already fantastic GoogleMaps-style Carbonite maps/minimaps. No need for any other addons. Carbonite perfectly coexists with Tour Guide and adds value.

• img
Jan 19, 2009 @ 2:23

Hmm yea, Carbonite quest orHmm yea, Carbonite quest or lightheaded, both do the job.

I personally go with lightheaded because it’s a lighter addon and it’s enough to plot the coords to quest NPCs.

Since I don’t need all the extra features from carbonite really, I just go with the lighter addon. Once you’re following my guides in TourGuide format, carbonite and/or questlhelper really become nearly useless.

Jan 19, 2009 @ 20:29

I agree providing there isI agree providing there is sufficient waypointing/mapping done (using tomtom or whatever). Tourguide was light on waypoints when I tried it but that is down to whoever is coding tha particular guide. If anyone has seen how Zygor’s Guide works then thats the ideal situation for me. Practically every step has a corresponding waypoint using tomtom so I can check roughly where it is on my world map as well as having teh funky arrow. I’d hope for close to Zygor functionality from our guides to be honest and that is really down to how the guides are coded as the addons are packed with features and the guides are excellent.

Was left a bit disappointed when I tried the WoW-Pro addon, didn’t seem to be any waypoints and I have to click next step most of the time. It may seem petty but when talking about ease of use even having a ‘next step’ keybinding is more work than is necessary for the user. More automation would be nice and like I say this may be a coding issue rather than a lack of add-on functionality. Its a shame Zygor guides are crap as guides really :p cos I love the way the addon works. Our add-on makers should actually check it out if they can.

tag. 🙂

The issue is with the guides – the addon is all the time more and more capable of detecting which steps to show and to automatically move on to the next step.

For example, just during the last few days, there’s come features for knowing when you’ve bound somewhere, when you’ve discovered a new flight path, etc. It’s just that the guides written for it aren’t quite up to date (except for Snowflake’s Blood Elf Starting Guide, which is using just about all the latest features of the WoWPro addon).

I should really get into helping get some of these guides into add-on format but I have coffee to drink and it doesn’t make itself you know! 😀

Yep, the lack of arrows andYep, the lack of arrows and auto completion is because of the way the .lua is written, not because of the addon 😉

I just finished writing a Human 1-12 myself, tourguide version. I’ll upload it later tonight and I encourage everyone to try it for fun. You’ll see what kind of standards I want to reach with each chapter:

-TomTom arrow for EVERY step requiring you to move, even short distances.
-Auto-completion for 99% of the steps. When it’s not an auto-complete step, I actually mention it and tell you to close the step once you finish reading.
-class quests included
-optional quests included
-Even giving directions to the nearest repair NPC when the guide mentions to “Sell junk and repair”

If they’re all of this quality then I’d take the WoW-Pro add-on over TourGuide because in later guides there is plenty of space to add extra snippets of info 😮

Funky stuff. I’ll try your Human guide tomorrow if its up (tag needs his beauty sleep now :p)!

try your Human guide tomorrowHey Tag,

I tried the Human guide with a pally and noticed a lack of auto complete in some locations. I’m not sure this was due to an older version of the AddOn (could be), but I forgot to write down where and when.

In case you find time, perhaps you could write down these issues if they in fact exist and have the Human guide updated.

One thing I did miss in the guide : CLUCK! 😉

ThanksThanks for the nice comments on the belf starter guide for the WoW-Pro Addon. You can probably guess how it feels to hear something is “pretty awesome”, when you’ve taken the time to make sure everything possible is autocomplete, not to mention the time spent on improving the addon itself for all those extra features that allow the guide to be autocomplete for almost every step.

But thanks really go to Jahwo, who gracefully has let me meddle with his code with full rights to change it in the repository. Without that, the addon wouldn’t be as great at automatically completing steps, and neither would a guide writer be able to add in class or race-specific quests, etc. It’s been a fun, but busy, few days since I grabbed the guides to do and sent Jahwo the first fix for the addon by private message. 🙂

Questhelper useless?I just wanna point out one little extra feature why Im still using QuestHelper atm since Im running guides. It is that thing when u select random creature it shows if u need this one for any of your quests, so you dont actually have to remember names from Guidenotes, but u can easily see by targeting mob while running around.

Only thing I needed to change in Questhelper setting was option called “Disable Weapon Arrow” so it doesnt automatically re-set your TomTom arrow with some random quest you are not actually going to do.

So thats why Im still using QH, but maybe there is some other “ligher” addon to show this info in tooltip? I dont know.

I am encountering one problemem frequently though, on hellfire peninsula I often get !swatter to report to me that sometimes tourguide failed to set a note because the zone is unknown (HFP in this case)
I use Cartographer waypoint coz I had some trouble with tomtom but my friend who uses tomtom says he also had those errors but somehow it just set them in the current zone but I cant seem to find this option anywhere. Is there a fix to this?

Not that it’s a bad thing, but it’s not as high quality as this one, and also it requires a few adjustments at the start, because Maw’s guide isn’t supposed to flow well into Boston’s.

Thanks for the answer!I might then wait until the Maw’s guide conversion will be done before starting a human character and try it out. The best thing would be the possibility to try the tourguide style addon with the wow pro guild 🙂

Can’t see your guide?I checked the guides on this and couldn’t find yours. Is it still there? And if so, what is the name of it? Is it in the Wow-pro section, or do you have yours in with the others?

Weird….Hi, I’m having trouble installing the addon. I use WoWMatrix, and I can’t find my WoW Addon folder or the WoW folder itself. I did everything you said and couldn’t find either. I’m running Vista if that means something. Is there anyway you could add the addon to WoWMatrix? :3

• img
Jan 25, 2009 @ 1:12

Nope, we’ll never add theNope, we’ll never add the addon to WoWMatrix, sorry.

It’s really easy to find your addon folder.

Generally the full path is: c:program filesworld of warcraftinterfaceaddons

If it’s not there, you can just use windows’ search function and look for the wow.exe file. Right-click the file and choose “open file’s folder location” and you’ll be in your world of warcraft folder.

It also leaches bandwidthIt also leaches bandwidth from the host sites while profiting itself from the ads in the program. WoWMatrix also doesn’t ask permission from add-on authors to list their add-ons though they will remove them if you request it. This kind of deep linking and profiting from it is a morally questionable practice. Go over to the Ace forums and ask about WoWMatrix if you want but be ready for the flames :p

Oh No! It’s forgotten almost everything! It was great fun to use this yesterday; I love the idea. But …

… when I logged back on this morning the addon/tour-guide or some part of this system had totally forgotten the history of all the quests that I had completed by the time that I logged out yesterday. I had to reselect the appropriate guide and then click the “completed” button on all of the quests until I got to the correct point.

Interestingly, it did seem to know the current “active” quest but it still was trying to make me repeat all of the ones that lead up to that point.

This is true of everyThis is true of every addons. The variables in memory are saved to disk only if you logout or exit the game properly. If you crash or if you kill the program, nothing get saved.

The only way to have the data written to disk is to reload the UI but I would not advice to do that since some mods respond strangely to that.

If you didn’t changeIf you didn’t change anything in the WTF-Folder or didn’t change the language of your client this should really not happen.

If this problem still occurs look if there is a file called Tourguide.lua in the folder World of warcraftWTFAccountACCOUNTNAMESavedVariables

if not.. hmm just try reinstalling the addon, or deleting the WTF folder (which will reset your configurations!) 😛

But I believe this won’t happen again…

Whats the differenceWhats the difference between the tourguide style and the wow-pro custom?

• img
Jan 26, 2009 @ 19:59

Tourguide is smaller, it isTourguide is smaller, it is also most perfmormant because it auto-completes 90% of the steps. It activates autmatically the quest tracker and, by far, is the easiest to use.

The custom addon is, as the name hints, a customized window. You can resize it, move where you want to fit your deisres. It has a nice arrow pointing system, which also is integrated in the addon (meaning no tom tom, which is one of the most ram consuming addons [at least whenever I check it heavier than lightheaded!] thus it slows down your FPS a bit). The wow pro custom addon is better because it contains more informations (basically it’s an exact copy – paste of the guides on this site) and thus is more easy to understand what to do. You can browse through steps whenever you want, it’s easy. Basically, in areas like Dragonblight, you can go back and see what Jame said about the instances or group quests, and evalutate if you want to do those :).

I have tried both addons, and frankly I can’t decide. Both have pros and cons, it’s up to your tastes.

• img
Jan 26, 2009 @ 21:13

But are all guides inBut are all guides in wow-pro custom?

and thank you for youre answer

• img
Jan 27, 2009 @ 10:49

Nope.In wow pro there is only 1 guide for alliance (maw’s human leveling guide 1-12) and a bit more for the horde: Zernij’s Durotar Leveling Guide 1-12 and Jame’s horde leveling guide – Dragonblight & Grizzly Hills. I’ve tested the last 2 and they are great.

There are actually more guides for Tourguide, expecially for alliance side. There is the whole Jame’s leveling guides 30-60, Outland guides until Blade’s edge mountains and 1 or 2 Northrend guides!

• img
Jan 28, 2009 @ 8:28

More GuidesThere are more guides. Alliance also has 1-12 draenei, Jame’s 30-40, Jame’s Dragonblight, and a few more.

Same with Horde. They have more guides than the ones you mention.

Step no longer necessaryThanks for making such an awesome guide, and then going even farther to make it an add-on. I’ve got a DK going through the Alliance Hellfire one so I’ll provide feedback on it. I downloaded the addon yesterday, and started clicking through it on my DK to get where he was and I noticed that it’s still telling you to buy the Maiden’s Anguish for the “Fei Fei’s Treats”. I’ll post aything else as I come across it. Thanks again for taking the time to do this.

I want to give someI want to give some apologies, too… To all the community members who made the effort to write guides for my addon and supported it. I thank you very much. Also some special thanks to rioshin, without him, this decision would surely have been made even earlier.
Please keep your motivation up and use it to make the TourGuide AddOn as perfect as possible.

Thanks again, I hope you’re not too disappointed.

• img
Fév 2, 2009 @ 14:04

No problem!I initially liked more the wow pro custom addon, but after discussing here I figured that the tourguide style addon is potentially a lot better than any other leveling addon (small , “clever” , simple yet clear) and with the efforts that a lot of user put in it it is really good. I think that with all “modders” (or customizers :)) working on the same project, things will move faster and Jame will have more time to write Northrend leveling guides while other experts of tourguide will import his and other users’ guide in the addon.

Keep up the good work, complete support from me!

Thanks for trying, JahwoI appreciate your attempt at doing this. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to code any of the guides into Tourguide format, but I do have a plethora of alts to test a lot of them 😛 . There didn’t seem much that I’d be able to contribute writing-wise, anyways.

Again, thanks for trying. I know this will end up helping the community in the long run!

I would like to say bigI would like to say big props to everyone who was invlved with the wow-pro custom add-on, it was an impressive response and an awesome feat. I would like to bring special attention to the Belf starter guide (snowflake’s one) that had been coded for this add-on. All of the guide writers should try it. Its actually better than the one Jame coded (Maw’s human 1-12) for tourguide. Mainly because it even autocompletes when you train, sell, repair etc. Of course it might just feel that way because the belf starting area is better designed than any other starting area in my opinion. Its worth checking out though, its quite brilliant and is in my opinion the gold standard which the other guides should try to match.

I mean no disrespect to any guide writers in saying this, I just thinks its the standard we should be going for. Oh and I’ve written all this and you probably can’t get hold of the old wow-pro custom add-on now 😀 Oh well.

Thanks to the community for the work it put into this add-on anyway. Was real nice to see tbh.

I think things will end up better by focusing on one addon. Unfortunately, it’s looking like I won’t have the time to help code anything for TourGuide as the requirements of my job are really starting to kick in right now, but I definitely will be providing constructive feedback to help get everything up to Jame’s standard.

Guide writing.I finished a guide using nuzz’s tourguide editor and went to play test it. It shows up on the guide list, but when I select it nothing shows up in the tourguide frame. I double checked all my objectives and made sure to add tags for (part 1) etc… Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Wrong locationI wasn’t sure where to post this and if any one could tell me where to postfuture posts that would be great.

I just wanted to point in the Toure guide addon (Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide – Grizzly Hills (75-77)) the part where you need to get the quest “Sasha’s hunt” points you to a wrong direction, you will end up in Bloodmoon Isle. Also, the other quests that you get from the location where you get the Sasha’s hunt the cordinates are also wrong. This happen when I was in 53-58% of the guide. I dont’t know if was just me or the guide it self. I have a friend that is also trying out the guide so I will be able to confirme either it was me or the guide.

Great guide by the way ;P

Quest orderThe first thing i’d like to say… I love the work you guys are doing here. Jame your guides are awesome. 🙂

I have a question for this addon guide, are the quest supposed to be in the same order as your written guides Jame? Have been doing Borean Tundra (alliance ofc) and have startet the Howling Fjord section. I find that some of the quests are not in the same order as in the written ones?

• img

Are you using the HowlingAre you using the Howling Fjord guide I posted, or the one in the current upload package? As far as I know, the latter is only the last 10% of Howling Fjord or something like that? And maybe the starting bit.

If you’re using the one I wrote and the quests are out of order, I’d love to know so I can fix it! (But I think they are in order hehe) I posted it on the “main info page” in a comment.

I also want to say that the guides I converted don’t have all the coords necessary for each step. If you want to help, please pm me the coords that are missing for each step and I’ll update them!

Okay, going through theOkay, going through the Hillsbrad part of the Horde guide with my warlock. I found an issue and wondered if there was a place you would prefer issues to be reported. For now I’ll put it here, but you may want to add a note so people can all five feedback in the same place.

In the Hillsbrad part of the 20-30 guide, where it tells you to get “Souvenirs of Death”, the quest is not available for me yet. I seem to recall on other characters that you have to do the first part of Battle for Hillsbrad first – I’ll confirm that as I go.

Ideally, you can also send a PM to the person who wrote the section to make sure he/she doesn’t miss it 🙂

Anyway, it’s not a problem, I’ve just replaced the body of the file with yours. But I’m just curious as to why your files still have the old naming style.

Other language localization – feedbackHi Jame (and others).

I put my hand on an attempt to (start to) localize the Human’s Maw 1-12 guide to French, since it’s the most achieved one for now. I only localized the first steps, to see what happens.

I created my character, I enabled the addons, I chose the guide.
My first feeling after having selected the guide was: “so, what?”

I was expecting to have “something” shown somewhere – a point, an arrow, something… But nothing.
Of course I had “Adjoint Willem” with his yellow “!” in front of me, but nothing was indicating me that I had to speak with *that* guy.

So, I took “Menace intérieure” (the french quest name). Next step appeared: . Again, no indication, besides the nice yellow “?”…

I validated and took the following quest, and then next step was “Go and take quest Eagann Tannepeau”.
But once again, no direction – and my minimap was displaying 2 yellow “!”, so which one to choose?

I don’t know if that lack of direction is a french specific thing – the TomTom arrow and map/minimap point appeared when I took the “Eagann Tannepeau” quest, and was present in almost all the following steps, but that lack of direction for the first steps was my greatest surprise…

Second point, there is a specific thing related to french (and other languages as well): a “Warrior” can be either a “Guerrier” or a “Guerrière”, according to the sex of the character. It means that we have to duplicate all the class-specific Addon “rules” for both versions of that class to have them display correctly for all of them. I guess the same goes for races specific rules if there are any on other addons.

These are the only problems I noticed for now – I can manage the “duplicate class/race specific rules” thing, but I wonder if the “no visual indication” at the start of that guide is french-specific or if it’s a “standard” addon thing.

• img
Fév 17, 2009 @ 22:58

It’s french specific. ThereIt’s french specific. There is a TomTom arrow guiding you for every quest accept / quest turn in step in the english version.

And I think I know why it’s not working with the French localization.

See, we don’t put coords for Quest Turn-in and Quest Accept steps in the .lua, because Lightheaded does it for us. Lightheaded tracks the quest ID and automatically creates a waypoint to the quest NPC related to this quest ID. Which is great becauses this saves us a lot of time when coding the guide in .lua

And sadly, it appears that Lightheaded doesn’t work with the french version (or maybe you didn’t install Lightheaded ?)

• img
Fév 17, 2009 @ 23:09

Lightheaded does work withLightheaded does work with the german client so I don’t see why it should not work with the french… After all it uses, as you said, the quest ID and therefore is independant from the language.

I don’t think that lightheaded is the problem, but maybe I’m wrong, as I don’t have a clue what could be the mistake =/

Souricette, it’d be nice if you could give some more information about what addons you have installed and maybe give a short code snippet?! 🙂

A couple of things really….First, I’d like to announce that I figured out the tourguide addon(yay me). If you seen any of my earlier posts, I could never get the guides to scroll, not to mention, not having all the guides load. What I ended up doing was, going into the tourguide file prior to unzipping it, delete the horde version, unzip file, and wouldn’t you know it, it worked!!(p.s….whoever added the scroll bar, you are offically my new hero)

Secondly, I was running the 21-31 Horde-Jame version of the addon(with my shiny new hunTER), and noticed a step out of place. When first enetering Tarren Mill, it’s telling me to grab the “Souvenirs of Death” quest. Now, I might be mistaken, but I believe you don’t get that quest until you return to Tarren Mill after your first circuit.

Just wanted to give a heads up. The rest of the guide, to that point obviously, is point on(was actually using the site version as well as the addon version, for comparison). Sorry if this error was pointed out in a earlier post.

I know that guide by heart and there were no hapries involved anywhere.

Ghostlands testedTravel to Tranquillien: no arrow!

Taking the quest Spirits of the Drowned: waypoint is about 20 yards off.

Down The Dead Scar: arrow missing! And there should proberly be a note here telling you to keep all the Rotten Hearths you find.

Goldenmist Village: arrow off by about 70-90 yards

The Plagued Coast: arrow missing! The arrow should point westwards, as it is where the beach starts and when you arive, it should point southwards.

Curbing The Plaque: note is unnessecary and confusing at best. The arrow is spot on and is all that is needed.

Getting the quest Underlight Ore Samples: arrow off by 20 yards

Trouble at the Underlight Mines: there should be a note about the patrolling shaman and generally a note about the high difficulty of this quest. And perhaps also a note about that it’s not safe to stand close to the questgiver.

After completing the above mentioned quest: you should use your hearthstone to get back to Tranquillien! (I might be wrong though, as you are told to use your hs after the next quest run, which ends farther away and proberly takes less than an hour to complete)

After getting back to Tranquillien: the quest turn in and take order is illogical and needs to be reworked.

Turning in Tomber’s Suplies: arrow off by about 26 yards

Turning in Goldenmist Village: arrow off by about 20 yards.

The next time you return to Tranquillien, the turn in and quest take order is illogical and needs to be reworked!

Quest turn in: Delevering the Plans to An’telas: the arrow is confusing and leads the player to a dead-end. The player should be lead east first, then to the location!

Attack on Zeb’Tela: arrow missing!

Taking the quest: Escape from the Catacombs: arrow off by about 300 yards! (Starnge thing: I died and had to retake it: this time the arrow is correct. Note: the arrow seems to point randomly on one of the many dots that mark the path. Tehre should only be one dot (at least until you actually take the quest.))

Deactivating An’Owyn: the note should tell about the drop you have to aquire.

“The Ashenvale Hunt” deprecatedThe quest “The Ashenvale Hunt” is no longer avilable from the warcaller patrolling the city. I have checked diverse forums and it seems to be a change related to the 3.0.2 patch. This should be fixed in both the addson tour guides and Jamies leveling guides! I think the quest is still there, but you now do it differently and you definitely can’t pick it up at level 21 after having talked to Senani Thunderheart!

Thanks and QuestionsFirstly, let me thank all of you for helping make the best WOW leveling guide in the world even better. Having it in this format has greatly improved the gameplay for me while following the guides.

I have been using an add-on called Carbonite for 8 months now and Tour Guide meshes with it perfectly. This is instead of using TomTom. However, I have had one bit of a problem. I am running through the Maw’s Human guides. I noticed a problem when I reached Loch Modan. It seems that when there are “Follow the arrows” waypoints, they are exactlly backwards. This is from the run from Ironbad’s Excavation to the Farstrider’s Lodge. It happened every time after that. Wasn’t sure what was going on.

One more thing to note: Would it be possible to get this add-on added to WowMatrix, as I use this to manage the updating of all of my add-ons. It would make things a lot easier with all of the updates.

Thanks again.

• img
Fév 20, 2009 @ 10:11

Hmmm, no idea what’sHmmm, no idea what’s happening with the arrows, hopefully someone else can help with that.

As for WoWMatrix – I am fairly certain Jame does not plan on adding this to any site or service such as WoWMatrix or Curse. The reason is that this would severely drop the traffic to this site. This was the original reason Jame was against having the addon in the first place.

There are several reasons for this. First of all, the reason this site can exist and be a place to share these guides, and the reason Jame can continue to do the great work he does, is from revenue from adds. If no one comes to the site, that revenue disappears.

Possibly more importantly, there are “paper” guides on this site that are very useful but could not be put into the addon format, such as class or instance guides. Reducing traffic to the site from the leveling guide crowd would mean these other high quality guides that the WoW-Pro community has put a lot of time into would get little or no exposure.

Hope this helps to answer your question!

Fév 20, 2009 @ 17:31

and let us not forgetAnd let us not forget the feedback.
If you would keep your addon updated trough another site (* who makes money with it ) , you would hardly come by and check on the updates. Also this would mean, that since you are not visiting ayways, many would not be very inclined to log in and post a comment.
Comments either being a simple thank you, or a comment that would enable jame and others to improve the guides, fix bugs etcetera.
This would also slow down perfectioning and keeping this site and all its guides optimal and up to date.

Slowly but steadyly i would think the progress and great benefit this site has to so many people would come to a grinding halt. And thus in the long run, no one, not the users, not the posters, not jame, no one…. would benefit from putting it on such a site in the long run.

• img
Fév 23, 2009 @ 22:28

The thing with the arrows isThe thing with the arrows is something I need to fix. What happened is I put several coords on the same step, so that you get a “Follow the arrow” circuit within a single step, without having to click.

The problem is that past the first coords, TomTom will automatically send you to the CLOSEST other coords in that step, instead of following the order where I put them.

And sometimes this messes up the order.

Anyway, I’ll fix it in a later release.

And about WoW-Matrix, Ji and Jah (mwahah, I’m gonna refer to you both as JiJah from now on!) answered your question perfectly. 🙂

• img
Fév 23, 2009 @ 22:31

Now that is just silly. Now that is just silly. Besides the fact it was Elmo who helped answer the question, not Jah (though he is in general full of awesome).

PS. The arrow problem could probably be solved by making multiple |R| steps or something.

• img
Fév 23, 2009 @ 22:54

Oh dear, I’m that tired?Oh dear, I’m that tired? Sorry Elmo!

And yes, it could be solved by making several R steps, but that would require checking off every step, which is what I was trying to avoid, but anyway, I’ll pretty much do something in between. All you have to do is be careful when putting several coords on the same step, make sure that the next coords are the closest from the previous coords, or they will be skiped. If that’s unavoidable, then you have to use multiple steps.

• img
Fév 23, 2009 @ 22:56

R steps automaticallyR steps automatically complete when you enter the correct zone. I’d have to look at the guide in question, but I’m reasonably sure we could make it work.

• img
Fév 24, 2009 @ 0:22

Problem is that theProblem is that you stay in the same sub-zone while making those mini ciruits with arrows, so the R steps do not auto complete.

Fév 24, 2009 @ 11:20

yes it canThe coords should auto complete when you get close enough,
even in the same subzone, it would be a matter of experimenting with accuracy.
a 4 digit or 8 digit or 6 digit.

The larger the flex i the sooner the arrows will go to the next point but the more accuracy you miss.
This is of course assumig a run to point go to coords
instead of go to zone

• img
Fév 24, 2009 @ 23:26

Yes but that’s not the issueYes but that’s not the issue at hand.

The issue is that when you put several coords in the same step to make a “circuit”, it doesn’t always follow the order in which you put the coords, it always jumps to the closet next coords, which is fine most of the time, but not always.

TomTom arrows always automatically switch to the next coords when you reach the current location, that we know. But the tourguide step doesn’t autocomplete upon reaching a certain coordinates. The only way to have a tourguide step auto-complete when going to another location is when you change zone or subzone, which is not always the case when making small “Follow the arrows” circuits.

I’m testing the Orc/TrollI’m testing the Orc/Troll guide right now and found that the Shaman class quests are a bit broken.

Since the quests “Call of Earth” and “Call of Fire” are multi-part quests, they need to be split up like other multi-parters (“Call of Earth (Part1)” and so on). This need to be done to prevent all of them becoming flagged as done, when the first part is completed.

With all due respect, usingWith all due respect, using words like “ur” does not inspire confidence in your help. Jame works his butt off on these guides, and a lot of other folks have put in a lot of time and energy into them. If you are going to criticize, at least give some useful input and feedback.

Making a testing video would be nice, but it’s probably not high on Jame’s list of priorities right now. It’s more important to get the guides polished, and I know lots of folks are looking forward to some more guides for Northrend and even Outland (Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley). If you want to make a video, and it’s high quality and professional looking, then Jame would probably be interested in it – but please don’t imply that he is not working hard, nor that his guides are not of high quality. Because frankly they are the best guides on the internet right now, paid or free.

New versionThanks Jame, I’ve been using your guides for several years now, they are good.

But i miss the Dranei guide 12-20 (think it was snowflake that made it) in the new version of tourguide.
Or do you recomend got to Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdom for lvl 12+ ?

Definitely not, from what IDefinitely not, from what I understand Bloodmyst is the best place to level period. I think that guide accidentally got left out of the Guide file in this version, I’m sure Jame will fix it in the next day or so and have the new file available for download.

Typo/missing quest in alliance Howling Fjord guideThanks so much for the tourguide guides. Working on yet another alt, and even though I’ve used your website for leveling before, not having to tab back and forth saves even more time!

While using the Alliance Howling Fjord guide (Jame’s 72-74) I came across a quest that I wasn’t told to pick up – ‘Of Keys and Cages’ from Father Levariol. The guide lists this quest as ‘Of Keys and Cage’ (note the missing s at the end). I’m guessing just adding the ‘s’ to make it ‘Cages’ would properly flag the quest as something to pick up.

Disabled by defaultHello, Im not going to repeat how amazing these guides and addons are (as we all already know 🙂 ), just wanna quickly thanks to all who contributed on these projects and here is little thingy I just found installing v0.61 of alliance guides:

In the WoW-Pro_TourGuide_Alliance.toc file there is:

## DefaultState: disabled

I dunno if its intended but it made me 30 mins of starving to addons folder trying to find out why there is no wow-pro guide in-game 🙂

• img
Fév 28, 2009 @ 1:21

This line only means thatThis line only means that the addon is not enabled in the ingame AddOns list by default. Meaning that it is not ticked and you have to do it manually.

• img
Fév 28, 2009 @ 19:56

Yep I know what it means,Yep I know what it means, but since previous version were enable by default, I havent been checking it at login screen and thought there is something wrong. So just wanted to give you little info in case someone got same problem / in case it was not intended (cant imagine what would be pros of having it disabled by default?)

• img
Mar 1, 2009 @ 0:37

The thing is that theThe thing is that the wow-pro packages remove the standard guides, which are not available in any way, unless you disable the addon. I think that could be a reason for making it disabled by default 🙂

But thanks for the info!

Mar 2, 2009 @ 21:00

I found a temporary fix for the problemI believe that something in the Blood Elf guide causes it to be removed from the guide list along with the original Tourguide guides. WoW-Pro_TourGuide_Horde.lua is the name of the file that seems to remove the other guides. If you remove the file that causes just the Wow-pro guides to load, the BE guide is selectable again (along with all the old tourguide guides as well). You can find it within the *World of WarcraftInterfaceAddOnsWoW-Pro_TourGuide_Horde folder.

Hope this helps. These guides are great!

I am following the guide,I am following the guide, and I have sofar 2 comments, and I will add more when I find them: In Howling Fjord, you tell the player to do the quest “Of Keys and Cage” but the quest itself is actully called “Of Keys and Cages”.

Also prior to this, you say that you should do:

Finish “Tridents of the Son”
Turn in “Tridents of the Son”
Finish of “And You thought Murlocs smelled bad”
Turn in “And You thought Murlocs smelled bad”
Turn in “Bring down those Shields”

But when you go to kill the mob Rotgill (for Tridents of the Son) you pass the turnin point for both “and you thought murlocs smelled bad” and “Bring down those Shields”. Soo wouldn’t it be better to turn them in then, since you are gonna HS after anyway?

Anyway, love your guides!!

Weird noteIn the 20-30 Alliance guide, part Wetlands (25-26), right after you turn in Uncovering the Past, there is a note that says “From now on, kill on sight. Close this step.”

I think there should be a mob name in there. Alternatively, if you are meant to kill absolutely every mob you see, “kill everything on sight” would be clearer.

• img
Mar 3, 2009 @ 22:37

In the same part of theIn the same part of the guide, the coordinates for turning in the quest “The Search Continues” are wrong. The correct coordinates are (13.61 , 38.22).

The follow-up “Search More Hovels” has no coordinates whatsoever.

The circuits in this part of the guide also seem a bit inefficient to me, you might want to look at them again.

For instance, it might make more sense to do these quests on the way from Menethil to the place where you kill the Giant Wetlands Crocolisks, then move in the direction of the Greenkeeper while killing Fen Creepers and then do the quests at the orc camp and the digsite.

1-12 Maw’s Human GuideHello =)

First, i need to say your guides are really great, and the addon is even greater, so thanks a lot.
Just started a human priest and it seems they are by far worse levelers than paladins. Took me 4h30 to reach the end of the 1-12 Maw’s guide, while being 36% ahead of level 12.

I really died A LOT, like 10-12 times in the 8th level. Priests are so weak in early levels =\'(

The class quests didn’t show up for me, but it semms to be related to my french client. TourGuide does’nt seem to handle any localisation. Didn’t notice any other problem. I’ll try to be better in the next part =p

Hello Sephrenya.

First,Hello Sephrenya.

First, please note that there is a french page for the plugin:

You can notice that the “1-12 Maw’s Human Guide” was one of the few already translated – the class-specific quests would have been handled 🙂

Yes, leveling a priest is not very easy for the first levels… But getting the Power word: Shield and the fear will help – and knowing when to flee!!!

My advice is: don’t spare your mana, use it intensively, and buy plenty of water to replenish it! I remember when I was a young priest, I was trying to spare my mana by fighting with my staff and my wand – I lost plenty of time doing that…

Good luck in your leveling!!

• img
Mar 4, 2009 @ 10:03

I intalled the frenchI intalled the french version, thanks =) I’ll try it for the end of the 12-20 part. Maybe a link on the main page to a list of all translations available could be of some use. I’ve been using the guides for a while, and still did’nt now there was a french version. Anyway, using the original one makes me improve my english level ^^

I’m currently 16, and the shield makes things a lot easier. Can’t wait level 20 to get Mind Flay.

I did’nt take a look at all the levels time, but i think i’m a lot closer to Jame’s speed in this part.

Major issue with first Tanaris guideHey folks, I discovered a significant chunk of quest accepts and turn ins missing from the first Horde Tanaris guide. A hotfix can be found here. I was planning on linking the full 41-51 guide when I finished it, but this is important enough that I wanted to link it sooner. Problem with the Drenai GuidesHi,

I am having a problem with the drenai Guide.

When I finish the 1-12 Part it always resets back to this guide and unticks most non quest related things that you have to click yourself.

Is there a way to change this, as I am really loving the guides and just wanted to level another character using it, wihtout worries 😉

I found a little coordinateI found a little coordinate bug in the 1-12 Orc/Troll starter guide.

12-20 Maw’s GuideFinally got my priest to level 20 yesterday.
Here’s my feedback on the guide :

There is two quest related steps with no autocompletion. They are both in the Loch Modan part (16-18). There is no QID tag for those steps in the file, so i guess you did’nt include them on purpose. Probably because you provide a given path to get to the questgiver and don’t want ligthheaded to mess with it. Maybe it could be done with a ‘Run here’ step detecting the zone name and then the quest step.
The first one is the turn in step for Ironband’s Excavation. The second one is the accept step for A Dark Threat Looms. This one is a little more annoying since by ticking this step TourGuide automatically tick the turn in, and you can’t have the arrow to get to the complete step.

I had troubles to find Ol’Sooty for the Vyrin’s Revenge Quest. I waited for him in his cave like 15 mins, then went to wowdbu and found him wandering down the hill. That’s something you may want to add to the step note.

I did’nt found any other problems.

My played at level 20 was 13h12. It’s already 4h behind holyjame, but i believe it’s still good considering i level a priest.
The grinding session in level 19 was terrible, more than 1h for 60% exp. Maybe some of the 20-30 part could be transferred here, since you found yourself a lot ahead at the end of the 30 part. But it would probably mess with the 12-20 boston’s guide, and got me a lot of money, wich i’ll need for my mount.

I had another little problemI had another little problem with the 1-12 Orc/Troll guide.

This time it was with finding Gazz’uz in Skull Rock. Since I was unfamiliar that mob and there was no waypoint, I had to search the whole cave for him. A waypoint or at least a description where in the cave to find him would be welcome.

Way to go, Jame! You’re on WOWinsider ^^Nice article here:

I hope that because of that article, more people will get to know your guides an especially the new “kickass”-addon-version. 🙂 🙂 🙂

The addon helped me to level my resto-shaman as resto shaman parallel to playing and raiding my main (and getting some rl and doing my 9-5 job ^^), without ever having the feeling that it took to long…
Because of the rested bonus gained during the week (when my chars where sleeping 😉 and i was at work) few quick instance runs, the guides helped me to ding, while I was in Grizzly Hills! 🙂

Now it’s all about playing the guide till the end, to earn some quest-cash 🙂

Hope you will find some time soon to complete your guides / addon for the last few “open” zones, so that earning cash will be easy as pie 🙂

Big thanks to you and this great community for the guides and the addon! Keep up the great work 🙂

Horde 41-51 UPDATEHey folks,

I just finished testing and doing a massive revamp on the Horde 41-51 section. It’s far from perfect, but also much better than it was. This shouldn’t receive the “quality” sticker just yet, but it’s definitely play-able now and shouldn’t have any major problems. Most remaining issues are stylistic and will be fixed slowly as folks play it through.

Badlands and Swamp of Sorrows switched?Great to see such a big update 🙂

I do have a question though: it seems Badlands and Swamp of Sorrows are switched. The guides will have you go to the badlands, crush some rock elementals on the way and then you have to go straight to the swamp of sorrows. In the paper version you stay in the Badlands and when finished you continue in the swamp of sorrows…is this a glitch or is this intentional swapped in the addon guide?

keep up the good work, its getting better every time 😀

Clarify please? 🙂

Howling Fjord – clarification neededI forgot to note that I’ve tried and enjoyed the Howling Fjord guide. I used it almost entirely without issue. The one issue I found was that when you’re in Gjalerbron and have to wake Dormant Vrykul and kill Fearsome Horrors, it’s not clear where to go. The web version of the guide leads you to the correct entrance, but I hadn’t seen the entrance when I came up the stairs, and the addon simply pointed to the coordinate without noting where the entrance was.

Thanks for the hard work, everybody!

1. The fly to crossroads and set heartstone to crossroads items does not auto-complete. This is because the place is named “The Crossroads”, not crossroads.

2. The “Plainstrider Menace” quest does not auto-complete and when I check it manually it also checks the turn-in as complete. I think this is caused by wrong QID. It looks like it should have QID 844 NOT 871.

Cords on horde guides are all offLove the site just recently signed up. Been using tour guide to level my new priest horde side. They work fine just the cords for all major towns are completely off. Its telling me Org is in Stonetalon Mountains and that Splintertree post is in Hillsbrad. its not a big deal for me but for someone who’s never played it would be confusing. Keep up the good work other than that small issue its great.

• img
Mar 18, 2009 @ 21:13

Coords at startupThere’s sometimes an issue when you first start up, and tourguide doesn’t detect the zone you’re in when it starts. It then maps the coordinates to the world map. If this happens, right-click on the addon, then select ‘guides’, and switch to another guide. When you switch back, it should map the coordinates to the correct zone.

Dragonblight Guide?First off, great work everyone. There are some people doing some hard, largely thankless work, and people like me appreciate their efforts. 🙂 So far I have run my 70 (now 74) Hunter through both the Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord guides. I did not alt tab at all, and went expressly by what the guide told me. There weren’t any MAJOR issues, just a couple bad waypoints, and a couple times when the guides failed to send me back to a quest hub for turnins.

My question though, is this, where is the Dragonblight guide? I see it as being listed elsewhere, and thought there was one in the addon at one point, but now I don’t see it in the latest version. Has it just not been created yet, or did it get pulled accidentally from the addon?

Dragonblight. There’s one that’s included in the original TourGuide mod, but it’s not from here. When you install the wow-pro mod, it disables those guides included in TourGuide.

On the Works in Progress page (, it shows that Dragonblight is being worked on, but hasn’t been released.

This is, of course, assuming you’re talking about the Alliance side….LOL

DragonblightIn post Rhovanion posted a Dragonblight guide he whipped up. I’ve tried it, it seems pretty good. Maybe it should be used?

The file seems to still be up at
despite his warning it may disappear. I just copied it to the addon folder, and then edited the Guides.xml file with notepad, adding an entry for the file. I found it to be self-explanatory, if anybody else wants to try it.

Grizzly Hills guide – two notesI’ve seen a couple of spots in the guides where the location being marked is the location that the quest is completed at, but it’s an underground or lower-level location where it’s not immediately obvious how to get there. One example is in the Grizzly hills guide, on the step ‘A Dark Influence’, where the arrow points to a location that is a big grassy field. There is no mention of the entrance that takes you to that spot underground.

The sequence for “Heart of the Ancients” and “My Heart is in Your Hands” also seemed confused. It seemed to indicate I should use the elixir to summon the troll at the lumber camp, but that was where I was supposed to loot the heart. I couldn’t summon him until I had gotten 5 desperate mojos, which is the step listed after the quest turnin, and was a significant distance away. I had to go to the paper version to figure out the correct sequence.

This is because we received multiple complaints about people being unable to find our guides, since you have to scroll down to find them. Enhancement shammy ftw

ButEnhancement shammy ftw 🙂

But yeah, I can understand where you’re coming from with the low level enhancement difficulties. We’re just a little toothless until a certain point, then things start getting fun.

At your level, you’ve basically got earthshock.

But when you reach the higher levels, you get more totems, stormstrike, maelstrom, lava lash, feral spirit, etc.

This slow progression of skills is why hancy is so great for new players, but can be frustrating for more experienced players (and why I always take ele until 40, or at least I would if I’d ever been bothered to get past 36.

Anyway, don’t get disheartened, and goodluck with the next installment, it can only get better from here.

Jame’s Horde v0.5, ZangarmarshStep to get quest What’s Wrong With Cenarion thicket (right after accepting Watcher Leesa’oh) appears to point to the Cenarion thicket itself in Terokkar instead of the quest giver Lethyn Moonfire (78.58, 63.13 in Zangarmarsh). The waypoint arrow text further refers to Tooki as the person you should talk to, which I recon should be the person you turn the quest in in the Terokkar guide instead.

Jame’s Horde Terokkar v0.5 – SuggestionWhen the player is in Shattrath and gets sent to the Cenarion Thicket to turn in “What’s Wrong with Cenarion Thicket”, I suggest inserting “! Adal” before getting sent to the thicket proper. The quest is grabbed from a hagard war veteran on a bridge which is definitely on the path eg (72.87, 47.11), and it saves a (short) detour.

I’ve also finished testing Zangarmarsh Horde v0.5 and didn’t find any issues aside from those already reported.

Zangarmarsh guideIn the Zangarmarsh guide you are told early on that you should have 13 quests in Zangarmarsh, but you only have 7 quests.

The 5 remaining quests are picked up near the end of the Hellfire guide. And if you like me, did not play through the Hellfire guide, then it poses a problem. There should at least be a check of if the player have the quests in their quest log.

The quests should be moved to the Zangarmarsh guide, so it can be played through stand-alone! (And btw it makes no sense to place the pick ups in the Hellfire guide as you never do any of them in that guide).

Problem with the horde version of the Howling Fjord GuideI just brought my Lvl 70 Lock to Northrend and following James guides started here. Howling Fjord GuideI just completed Howling Fjord, and one thing I noticed that would be quicker:

When you do the quest [71] Trident of the Son, you are sent to kill Rotgill who is right next to Explorer Jaren.

You are then sent back to turn in [71] Trident of the Son, then back to Jaren to turn in a couple quests, then hearth.

It would be faster to add a note to complete Jaren’s quests BEFORE picking up [71] Trident of the Son, then when you kill Rotgill, turn in

* [71] And You Thought Murlocs Smelled Bad!
* [71] Bring Down Those Shields
to Jaren,

Then go back to turn in [71] Trident of the Son, and then hearth.

About the notesHello. Haven’t been very active on the guide writing part lately, but I sure have been active on my alts.

I noticed when leveling one of my many characters that I enjoyed a system used for an old version of the guides better than now (even though it was more buggy at the time) because the fact that notes have been broken down into more parts, subparts and subsubparts is complicating the flow and not making it better.

Example taken from experience: I just recently updated to the latest version and tried one of Jame’s early Horde parts (Hillsbrad/Stonetalon something). What read before me as notes what to kill with a sweet arrow to point the direction has now been changed to single notes telling me which mob to kill, one at the time. Then what about the boss mob I should do at the same time? Or the loot I should I get from around the corners? Surely this is explained in a previous hint but the hint does not remain during the gazillion subparts of the quest that pops up in TourGuide as I’m progressing. I have to mark for read, right-click and go back to a previous entry and be annoyed in the process.

The towns are the same. I only need one note to tell me to repair, sell junk and train. Now I’ve got three, telling me which vendor to go to and in what order. People don’t need that. Flagging more notes to get to the next part of the guide isn’t necessary.

Just my two coppers.

Interesting GlitchI’m not sure if this is a bug with the Northrend Guides or with TourGuide itself, but I’ve seen it in both the Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra guides (and I did not see it happen with any of the Outland guides).

This is the scenario: I log in, complete a bunch of quests and check off notes as required. I log out and later log back in only to see that some of the quests that I completed before are not checked off. The odd thing is that it occurs seemingly randomly (that is, quests/notes I completed/checked after the quest that is incorrectly unchecked are marked correctly). When I manually check them off, it updates correctly, though. For example, if a glitched-quest has an Accept tag, a Complete tag, and a Turnin tag in the guide, when I check the Accept portion as complete, the other 2 are updated correctly automatically.

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

• img
Avr 3, 2009 @ 21:54

First of all, the last thingFirst of all, the last thing you describe, where checking off an “Accept” step causes the “Complete” and “Turn in” steps to check off, is intended behavior. TourGuide does not see that step in your quest log, so it assumes that if you have accepted it, you’ve also completed and turned it in already.

The “bug” you are having will occur when you force quit the WoW process in any way, such as alt+F4 or ctrl+alt+delete –> force quit. Basically WoW does not save your settings, so Tour Guide resets to where it was before you did whatever you did. When you log back in, some steps may auto-complete based on what TourGuide sees in your quest log and inventory, but others will not.

If you think this might have occurred, then that explains the problem. If, however, you are sure you did not force quit the process, let us know and we’ll look into the bug.

While a few of the quests inWhile a few of the quests in the addon guide may be missing coords, almost all of them have coords. There are a couple possibilities:

You may be mistakenly using the default guides that come with TourGuide instead of our guides (ours are the ones with “WoWPro” in the title).

You may not have LightHeaded and TomTom installed, which greatly reduce the usefulness of the guides.

Short answer: No.

LongShort answer: No.

Long answer: This is not just a mod site. This site has a huge wealth of non-mod guides. In the past, people would come here to use Jame’s “paper” guides and also discover all the other guides on this site. If Jame’s guides become available elsewhere, we will lose a ton of traffic to this site, and also Jame will lose the revenue from the adds on this site, which would make it hard for him to continue supplying these awesome guides.

You can subscribe to Jame’s Blog to receive notification of when the addon is updated, if you like.

Jame’s Horde Terokkar, v0.5.1The Fallen Exarch, execution: Coords are off, should be 35.92, 65.51

After that Quest’s turn in, you may want to insert a step “walk to the Refugee Caravan” for clarity.

MisspellingWhen using your Alliance guide, the one “Jame’s 30-40 Stranglethorn Vale” has a misspelling. Tourguide comes up with an error: “Tourguide: Cannot find zone “Strangethorn Vale” using current zone.” The correct spelling is “Stranglethorn Vale” I contacted the author of Tourguide, who told me “None of my guides have this misspelling, inform whoever wrote the guides
you’re using.” So that’s what I am doing 🙂

Thank you

Most Recent Horde VersionJame, it looks like some files didn’t make it into the most recent Horde Version. Specifically:

The Hellfire Peninsula files seem to be a bit screwed up. One is labeled 60-62 and one is 62-63. I see that that these are the files I originally had labeled 60-63 and 60-63 part 2. There was a reason for this, the part 2 section was for those who went to Outland at 58, it was not intended for everyone to do after the “normal” 60-63 section. This will definitely show the wrong behavior and confuse users, please fix it ASAP. My files can be downloaded at my google site still if you need them, as far as I have tested, they show the correct behavior. If you don’t like the way it’s set up, that’s cool, but we’ll need to talk about how to fix it, since it’s currently broken.

Looks like you did a lot of renaming for the 51-61 files, and that’s fine, I’ll stick to that convention in the future (there were some in the 41-51 section named with just one level and they worked fine, so I figured that was okay, everything worked okay with that naming convention but I’ll keep it with two levels if you like in the future).

You seem to have left out the after 60 optional circuit. Was there a reason for this? It works great, I tested it all with Deedlet. If you would like the files, they are also still on my google site. Hope you add them in, don’t want my hard work to go to waste!
Sorry I didn’t bring this up sooner, only just noticed it!

Hi Jiyambi.

Your level 60Hi Jiyambi.

Your level 60 optional circuits are present – it’s just that the files are not named as expected (the files are named “003_…”). But they are present 🙂

Ah, I fail!

But the Hellfire Peninsula one still stands I beleive.

I love your addon. I’veI love your addon. I’ve been using it since I started my death Knight and LOVE IT. I’m in Grizzly hills now and notice that it’s not quite polished as the others. While doing the Take their Rear there was no cords just a description to go look for them east. There are a large collection of Bears at 29, 56.
Hope that helps

Yup, unfortunately we areYup, unfortunately we are still in the testing phase, and a lot of these guides were coded by different editor’s with different styles, so we’re still trying to get them all up to Jame’s quality 😉

Thanks for the tip, next time you can report bugs using our Bug Reporting page, if you like.

Borean and HowlingI didn’t write those guides, I’m going through and making corrections to what was already provided.

I can’t take credit for the work that was done before me (Wizerd maybe?). I’m downloading the new version and will start taking my DK through Grizzly, looking for errors.

• img
Avr 8, 2009 @ 3:39

Heads UpI had something strange happen to me tonight and I thought I’d pass it along in case it happens to someone else.

I was working through Grizzly Hills and logged out to send a couple stacks of leather to my Rogue. I used the /logout command, brought my Rogue on, blah, blah, blah. When I brought my DK back on, several of the quests I had already accepted were not marked in TourGuide. It wanted me to go back and accept them. As most know, if you checkmark the accept part of the quest, it also marks the completion and turn-in parts also.

I figured out the problem. When I went to my Quest Log, Grizzly Hills was collapsed. When I expanded it, it skipped ahead to the point where I was when I logged out. It might be because of my quest mod (Uber Quest Reborn Again), but I’m not sure, so I thought I’d post this.

• img
Avr 8, 2009 @ 3:48

This is very true. TourThis is very true. Tour Guide cannot see your quests if they are collapsed. Kind of annoying but no big deal once you realize what it is.

• img
Avr 8, 2009 @ 4:16

P.S.When it marks those quests as accepted, it also marks the Completion and Turn-in Steps also. 🙁

Oh well….I still have several more toons that I can test this zone with….LOL

What happened????????OK, I was running the Jame’s guide that I downloaded last month, and decided I would wait to switch until I was ready for Outland.

So today I download the latest version and fire things up and the guide selection looks NOTHING like what it used to. There’s nothing marking any particular guide as Jame’s, and when I went back and checked my previous zone module (Plaguelands) there were a lot of new quests that the previous version didn’t have (such as going further into the “In Dreams” quest line.)

Can someone tell me if I’ve done something wrong?

• img
Avr 8, 2009 @ 23:35

If the guide doesn’t sayIf the guide doesn’t say “WoW-Pro” and have Jame’s name in the title, it’s not Jame’s. So it sounds like something is happening that is causing the WoW-Pro module not to load in TourGuide for you. Can you tell me what faction you are using? I’ll download the most recent files and see what I can figure out.

• img
Avr 8, 2009 @ 23:40

Since the above poster didSince the above poster did not give specific details I’m unable to for sure tell you what you’re doing wrong. My only suggestion is that you did not enable the WoW-Pro TourGuide addon. Without this, yes, the guide list will look a lot different. AND you won’t find Jame’s/Other members guides in it. Make sure you have it enabled and, yes, tell Jiyambi what faction you’re using 😉

I have used this guide on my *Alliance* side character, but that shouldnt affect *Horde* guide right?

Jame’s Horde Howling Fjord, v0.5.2Against Niffelwar – Turn in coords are completely off for some reason, should be 67.50, 60.54 and indicate Ranger-Captain Areiel. The next turn in, The Enemy’s Legacy, could have an add on the NPC, Scribe Seguine (obvious, though, he’s right next to the ranger, so meh).

• img
Avr 12, 2009 @ 0:28

Jame’s Horde HF v0.5.2Turn-In for Beachfront Property (Dragonblight): Same problem, coords completely off (point to HF instead of dragonblight), should be at 79.31, 64.98 in DB.

Turn-In for the Dead Rise: has a second waypoint at 56.90, 74.60 which leads to shield hill instead of the NPC
Turn-In for The Ancient Armor of the Kvaldir suffers from that very same issue, as well as the next 4 steps (3 turn-ins and getting the follow-up quest).

Yeah I hope the author ofYeah I hope the author of TourGuide and the one for Cartographer get their updates in some time tomorrow morning. It seems its not Jame’s Addon. There were a few changes to how a character is located in terms of local, along with changes to how quests and a few other things are handled. I’ve been leveling my Dwarf and don’t want to stop.

No Guide, No Arrow, No NothingFirst I want to say thank you to all the people who made these guides possible. I would literally be lost without them. I see a marked difference in my levelling from BG (before guide) to AG (after guide). This is awesome and thanks again for your wonderful work. 🙂

I have all of James’ Guides for Horde and Alliance. They worked fine last night. Now I’ve updated WoW with their stupid patch and my guides won’t work. I get no green arrow telling me where to go next. I can’t load a guide at all. None of the guides now say James, Snowflake,Boston, Maw or Pro anything. The only thing that seems to work is QuestHelper and I get the information for WowHead in my quest log. So I can search for a quest and read comments. However the guides aren’t working for me or my boyfriend. Any information on when they will be updated or any help is appreciated. 😀

bug report for Terrokar and Nagrand:Terrokar:

Entering Auchindon to get the quest “I See Dead Draeni” and others – wrong coords, enter through stairs down not upper level (for some reason I didn’t type proper coords when jotting this down, sorry).

Finding Dirty Larry for “What Book? I don’t see any book” the Tour Guide interface is applying the coords given to Terrokar instead of Shattrath

Quest “Talbuk Mastery (part 1)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “Windroc Mastery (part 1)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “Clefthoof Mastery (part 1)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “Talbuk Mastery (part 2)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “Windroc Mastery (part 2)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “Clefthoof Mastery (part 2)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “Talbuk Mastery (part 3)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “Windroc Mastery (part 3)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “Clefthoof Mastery (part 3)” has a “this quest is not listed in your current guide” warning

Quest “HELP!” – when told to get this quest and when you are told to turn it in, no arrow pops up for directions on the main screen or mini map, nor is the location marked on the main map. There are no coords given when you mouse over the quest name in the log box.

Quest “The Consortium Needs You” directs alliance players to the Consortium representative outside the Horde city of Garadar instead of the one at 51.11, 69.78.

Guide does not recognize when Cho’war the Pillager has been killed, does not proceed to next step

Guide does not tell you to free Corki after getting the key from Cho’War. It seems that it marks the quest as turned in at Arechron in Telaar as soon as you loot the key.

Guide does not tell you to turn in “Wanted: Zorbo the Advisor” either before or after turning in “Wanted: Giselda the Crone.” Both must be turned in before you can take “Wanted: Durn the Hungerer,” which the guide tells you to take after turning in “Wanted: Giselda the Crone.”

“Nitrin’s Instructions” can be destroyed after turning in the quest “Vision of the Dead.” Actually, it can be destroyed immediately upon getting it since the player is following the quest guide.

Guide never tells you to turn in the quest “Fierce Enemies.”

That concludes my Terrokar / Nagrand report. I’ll be starting Blade’s Edge on Monday.

Great GuidesYou’re add on has been extremely helpful in leveling new toons, but I don’t think I saw a 12-20 guide for night elves. Should I just follow another 12-20 guide or is a night elf guide in progress?

Just follow Maw’s 12-20Just follow Maw’s 12-20 Guide. I think that’s the best option for a Night Elf, since Boston’s doesn’t have a “Getting Started” section, so you’ll have a harder time using that one.

I just finished speed testing levels 21-31 with Jame’s leveling guide. See the results on my blog. Overall this section went pretty well, though there was a bit of grinding involved. I expect things to improve as we go!

I don’t remember doing this when I leveled my druid through this guide at this stage using the paper version but I will confess I’m not killing anything besides quest objectives this time round – I’m lazy and want to get it leveled and get everything done as fast as I can. That’s probably why it’s llike this for me.

*Pokes head in*Huh? What? 😉

Yeah, Tekkub’s and Jame’s guides, as well as some user created guides for Dragonblight and Grizzly hills, basically left only one area to have a guide for, and that was Icecrown. So I made a basic guide for it. It’ll get you the achievement, but you’ll need some help in the end for the group quests. I’d like to work on it a little more to improve the questcircuits, but I need to find time to do that.

WoW-Pro guides vs. Paid guides…I got asked this question today: “What’s so special about those WoW-Pro guides? Why would I use a crappy free guide over something I have to pay for like Joana’s? Surely if I pay for something it’s going to be better.”

I answered it very easily, I’ll share that answer here and now.

I actually have Joana’s guide – one of the many (and probably one of the best known) guides you have to pay for. It was given to me as a present by a friend who got me into WoW – he paid for it for me once I had been playing a few weeks and asked him about any guides n whatnot. Now, why would I use the guides here on WoW-Pro rather than Joana’s guide?

Joana’s guide is designed purely for use for a Warlock or Hunter, commonly considered the fastest levelers due to their exceptional abilities at being able to go for long sustained periods of time without taking a break. Jame’s guides work for every single class equally.

Joana’s guide is extremely poor in it’s appearance. In my eyes, it looks like it was put together by a bunch of 7 year-olds. It follows very basic stages: do this, do that, then go here and do this… Jame’s guides look absolutely amazing, you can really appriciate the time and effort he put into them and see that they are very well presented. You never get stuck or lost as everything is explained in crystal-clear detail.

Why pay for something when you can get it (and so much more) for free? Free is the best price you can pay.

Joana’s guide is exactly that, nothing more. WoW-Pro is so much more than just a collection of guides, even if that collection is vast and covers almost every aspect of the game. It has a large community of friendly and helpful people who are always willing to offer advice and criticism in a good way. You can make alot of good friends in a community like this. You will also learn alot more about the game here too compared to following Joana’s guide.

There you have it. That’s short and simple I know, but I think it sums it up pretty well.

I would like to make it clear though that I don’t intend for this to offend anyone. I used Joana’s guide as an example as it was brought up in the question and I have it myself and so I feel like I can compare the two as I have reasoning and experience of both behind my opinions. If Joana reads this then I do appologise to you if this offends or upsets you, that was never my intention.

Anyway, peace out!

– Skumball

Well, as someone who hasWell, as someone who has bought many different paid guides (I don’t like to download paid things for free, I much prefer wasting money), SPEED-wise, they’re all pretty good and comparable with the WoW-Pro guides. (I should point out that I am speaking solely of leveling guides.) However, WoW-Pro beats them in one very significant way: details. When using the other guides I would often go to a location and be told to do a quest, and that’s it. I’d spend a lot of time going to Wowhead in order to look up what I was supposed to do in the obscure quests. Seriously, just giving a location and a quest name isn’t enough sometimes. Wow-Pro’s guides however go into a staggering about of detail by comparison. The level of detail here made it so I almost never had to go to Wowhead to look things up, and the few times I did were for situations like running out of enemies to kill and looking up other locations, and such. (Well, and that Red Rocket PvP quest in Grizzly Hills, which Jame says to skip anyway.) So, yes, the details provided on the guides here at WoW-Pro, to me, set the guides here head and shoulders above the rest.

tl;dr version: Details are good.

Agreed. Jame’s guides haveAgreed. Jame’s guides have increased my leveling speed at all level brackets with about 30-50% (depending on the bracket), and that is compared with my leveling speed while following various other guides such as Joana’s, Brian Kopp’s, Idemise & Zygor.

I’ve tried most of the paid guides, and yet I end up following Jame’s. This, and the bold text above, speaks for itself when it comes to WoW-Pro guides vs. Paid guides.

By the way, thanks for posting, Skumball, I were thinking about the very same things just yesterday.

Speaking of Brian Kopp…You also don’t end up where his customers are right now. Ripped off. He never released a completed 70-80 guide which he wanted to charge more money for, and he has been missing ever since. Almost a year now and his forums are filled with angry people unable to get a refund. Finally Spugnort or w/e his seller is, had to make posts to calm people down.

With wow-pro, if Jame ever stops there are others who will be happy to take over or pitch in. The beauty of open source is anyone can help and you get a great community like you have here.

Well, it clearly is TourWell, it clearly is Tour Guide. However…

If go to this page, you can test out the guide yourself, and see that it’s not a WoW-Pro guide at all.
For example, Dugi’s guide includes a 12-17 Darkshore part, and that doesn’t exist on WoW-Pro.

Dugi has also made other guides, such as a Daily Quest & Events guide.

You can see by this that Dugi simply uses the Tour Guide to make his own in-game guides.

Although, he MAY have just edited the already existing guides built into Tour Guide and just added a whole bunch more information. And he may also have used Lyran’s Daily Quest Guide to make his own Daily Quest & Events guide.

I’m not judging nor protecting Dugi in this matter, just enlightning 😉

It’s not what I said :)I didn’t say that he “plagiated” (I hope the verb exists in English :)) some other guides – he is certainly the one who wrote them, since they also exist in a paper form, and they may be excellent.

I just said that he is using the “guide engine addon” TourGuide to distribute them, and I wonder if Tekkub knows that someone takes profit from his addon – this is the point annoying me.

DoubtI am looking forward to start using this guide at level 30. But i haven’t been leveling by this guide so far. Can i start using it at level 30, or am i going to have problems with quests i didn’t picked up before?

It’s actually more likelyIt’s actually more likely that you’ll have problems with quests you’ve already done.

However, just keep following the guide and those kinks will work themselves out in a few levels.

Since Jame’s guides start at 30, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble with pre-reqs.

Leveling speedJust finished leveling a character from 1-80 using the addon. I had decided to make a NightElf Priest as my 2nd character in WoW. Following the addon to the letter from 1-80 took me 7days, 13hours, 26minutes. This was without logging in any major towns or inns, so very minimal rested xp. Figured I post my leveling speed since I hadn’t seen any and figured some people might be curious as to how fast it can be. Not bad considering its my 2nd ever WoW character and don’t know the questing circuits all that well, I’m very pleased. Thanks guys appreciate the hard work.

why.. (bug reporting)the whole idea with the bug report system is great..

but.. why is it designed as it is?

you come to the bug report “main page” and have to click a guide. its great, theres a list of the current reports for that particular guide, which i wanted to post about.

then if i wanna post a bug, i have to click the same guide, again, from the dropdown menu? why? :<

Jahwo designed the bugJahwo designed the bug reporting site, because before it was worse. Well, before, we were doing what we are doing now – which is posting feedback haphazardly all over the site. This is because there have been reports of the bug reporting site not functioning properly of late. Yes, a better system is needed, but folks have been busy and it hasn’t gotten done yet. It’s a big job 🙁

Anyways thanks for the feedback!

status :Dhey. i’ve used the addon for levelling a couple of chars now, and with this new horde char (With heirloom xp shoulders equipped) its going great!

even though i slacked ALOT at lower levels (mostly i was just playing that new peggle addon and standing in orgrimmar :P) so i got 8 days played. but when i quit slacking and just stuck to the guide it went blitzing fast

i even completed all quests in blades edge, netherstorm and almost all in shadowmoon.(and ofc the quests the addon tells me to do, so basicly i’ve done all regular quests in outland, more or less) so i went to northrend when i was level 72ish almost 73

when i was done in howling fjord i was level 75, and before i got to dragonblight i hit level 77..

this was without ever being fully rested, or grouped. i did get a friend to rush me through UK though, and i’ve only done one instance so far, and thats nexus..

mostly i did the outland guides coz i needed the items to disenchant for my enchanting skill levelling (357 atm, just gathering mats atm :P)

overall its a great guide, and its a shame that the blades edge, netherstorm and shadowmoon guides arent in addonform yet. i hope they’ll be added (and suggested as optional stuff ofc)

good work to all people who work on this! you diserve a medal

I’m a little concerned whenI’m a little concerned when you say you used out addon guide for Blade’s Edge and Shadowmoon, because our addon does not cover those zones. It may be that you’ve been using TourGuide’s default guides, and NOT WoW-Pro’s guides. Check to make sure the guide says both “WoW-Pro” and “Jame” in the title.

• img
Juil 11, 2009 @ 2:08

When you download a newWhen you download a new version, it can loose some of your progress if that version has been heavily edited. Basically if the conditions for steps being checked off have been changed, they won’t be checked off anymore. So I would recommend writing down where you are in the guide section you are currently working on before the update.

I should probably write this somewhere on this page!

Also, a new version should be coming out this weekend so you might want to wait until then to update!

That would be a mistake. That would be a mistake. This is not software, it is an addon and addons are approved by Blizzard. If Blizzard has a problem with this addon specifically (which they shouldn’t, it breaks no rules and does not request donations in game, nor do we charge for it), then they need to contact us. I would suggest you try to contact Blizzard and find out what happened.

Jiyambi is right, you need to get in touch with Blizzard and find out what supposedly happened to get your account banned. I’d be curious to see what exactly they did state as the reason for the ban though.

I just wanted toJame,

I just wanted to thank you so much for this addon. I have known of your guide for a long time. However, I’m blond and I don’t really go looking for it until I’m stuck (which happens a lot) with where do I go next? I’m done with this zone (usually anything I can get my hands on). I found the addon this time around, loaded it. Picked one that I thought was the right one for the level I already was – it wasn’t the right one, so I picked the next one lower. It was the right one. I have already leveled two times and am close to leveling to 30. But I’m too tired to finish it tonight (will work on it again tomorrow).

So, Jame, a big thank you for all your hard work in putting the guide together in the first place and for getting this wonderful addon together as well.

The time and effort put into this must be staggering for what is essentially a charity project for new players (and altoholics like me) and I can’t possibly thank you enough. But if you will, try and imagine what it would have been like if I *had* thanked you enough. That’s what I’m aiming for.

Thank you.

Well I tried using thisWell I tried using this excellent guide for my way through the Eversong Woods and the Ghostlands, and I really only encountered two problems. The first was:

After following the guide all the way to the ‘War on Deathholme’ quest it seemed I were ‘far’ behind on experience point to be at the 20th level. I had indeed killed everything on my way thoruhg the guide, and had even completed my class-quest-chain. I had almost half a bar till the next level, so I saw the suggested grinding session as quite a long one.

The second problems was that somewhere you had misspelled the word ‘boat’ and wrote ‘baot’ instead. this was at the quest to retrieve the Kel’Dorei plans from that little island in the Ghostlands.

Well I hope you can use this input to make the guide even better. Right now it’s REALLY good – at least for my taste. Quite nice and smooth.

Hey Jame
Thanks for theHey Jame
Thanks for the addon to the tourguide. I’ve been using it for quite a while and love it. Not sure this has been answered yet, after the 3.2 patch when opening the guides, it shows |WowPro with author, zone and level in the top half, but the bottom half just shows zone and level. What is the difference between the top half with |Wow Pro and the other bottom half guides? I wasn’t sure which one to use. Thanks for your answer.

The ones that don’t sayThe ones that don’t say WoW-Pro are not from this site, and were not written by Jame. They are guides that come with the addon Tour Guide (which we didn’t write – we just use it to bring our guides into the game).

Basically – use the guides with “WoW-Pro” in the title, unless there isn’t a guide for the zone you want (such as Sholazar or Storm Peaks).

??I just installed the add on (including all of the others needed to run it), clicked the link it said to and it says “out of date” (I’m talking about the actual Wow-Pro one) under my add on screen on WoW. Does it say that for everyone or is there a different download I was supposed to use?

It says that because IIt says that because I haven’t gone in and updated it to say it’s up to date with the new patch. It is, however, up to date, you’ll just have to check “Load out of date addons” for it to work.

Absolutely fantasticJame,
I’ve addicted to leveling, and so far have 2 80’s, several 70’s, and I just started a new hunter a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been using one of the more popular leveling guides (which isn’t free), and I was getting tired of the repetition, so I decided to install your addon guide, and I can’t tell you how angry I am that I wasted money on the paid guide. Yours is SO MUCH BETTER! It’s so simple to set up, and all the quest stacking makes sense and is easy to follow. The toon I’m currently working on with your guide is lvl 62, and I’ve been getting 200K experience/hour! Really amazing work. Thanks so much for putting in all the time and effort.

You rock!

P.S. I created this account solely to let you (and everyone else) know that your guides are simply the best. Thanks again!

Addon co-ordsGreat addon and an excelent guide loving it 😀

(6days /played at level 70 with my new Enhancement Shaman)

Just like to point out… that for the Thassarian quests in Borean Tundra, the arrow points you to the wrong place… while the lightheaded co-ordinates appear to be correct…

Also seems the co-ords for a few quest starters are missing…. so far i’ve just had to click them as checked and move onto the next one hoping that they’re not part of a big chain…. (XP hasn’t really been a problem due to this… although I suspect having 20% increased XP from BoA gear might be helping there)

So far, I’m level 12 with 3 hours 40 minutes /played!!
Things that could be reason to why I was ‘behind’ Holyjame’s leveling speed where:

I’m a hunter – The Pet class quest did take some time.

A waypoint were bugged, it telled me to go through the whole land, when the quest giver was very close to me – I wasted 15 minutes there.

I will start working on Sven’s guide today 🙂

I really like this AddOn, use it to level all my alts. However, whenever I accept a quest, it also checks turning it in & the progress (for example: kill mob x at location y). This way I cant use the arrows…which is very annoying and basically takes out the use of the AddOn. Anyone know a way to fix this?

Thank you in advance

This happens because you areThis happens because you are checking off a step you have no actually done yet. Tour Guide gets really confused when you do this, and checks off the follow ups to it as well, assuming that since the quest is not in your log, you must already have done it. If this is NOT the case, please let me know if there is a specific quest giving you trouble or is it all of them?

Basically, try being sure to allow Tour Guide to automatically check off the quest accept step after you get the quest, rather than checking it off yourself. If it still is doing what you describe, or doesn’t automatically check off the accept quest, it means there is either something wrong with the coding or you are somehow accepting the wrong quest (perhaps the wrong step in a chain). Please give us some more details about what’s going on and I’ll do my best to help 🙂

In this case, I accepted the quest ”Mudrock Soup and Bugs” in Dustwallow Marsh 38-40 (Alliance), however the progress has already been checked, even though I am steps ahaid of that phase of the guide. When I scroll down I see that 2 other quests, and this one, I am on now as well are also already turned in..even though thats near to te actual end of the guide.

Any ideas? 🙂

Hmm, unfortunately I’m notHmm, unfortunately I’m not very familiar with the guides and/or coding on the Alliance side. Has it done this with other quests, or are these three the only problems? My advice for now would be to try uncheck the completed steps, and if that doesn’t work just be extra careful to open the guide and complete each step for this section. It *shouldn’t* be doing this as long as you are allowing it to auto-complete the quest accept steps, and hopefully the next section of guide will not exhibit this issue. Sorry I don’t have more helpful advice 🙁

A possible reason forA possible reason for this…

Many quests in the guide are tagged (part 1) (part 2) etc, which isn’t recognized as the quest name. So you pick up a quest, it doesn’t quite match up log vs guide, and perhaps…

Just a thought. I’m not sure if that’s the reason or not. I just had it happening with what’s listed as Rise of the Silithid (final) in the Alliance Azshara 51-52 chapter.

All of our guides say “WoW-Pro” in the title. But maybe you already knew this and were just using the tour guide ones to fill in the holes!

As to your question, Jame has been pretty busy in RL lately and hasn’t been writing guides. It’s possible he’ll get some done before the expansion hits, but its more likely that, if he does come back to guide writing, we’ll only see Cataclysm guides for a while.

completed ingame questsFirst of all, thank you for bringing all the information on this into a single addon ! *bows deeply*

Second, i was wondering if there is a way to ‘remember’ the quests you’ve done when logging on to a different computer.

The following.. When i’v been playing on the desktop, the wife comes home we eat and i grab my latop to sit on the couch and play WoW with ofcourse this great addon.
The moment i log on to the laptop i have to single-handedly selected all the quests i’ve just been through on the desktop to get to the quest where i was.

I’ve been trying to do the following:
– desktop >> copy tourguide.lua >> laptop “saved variables” directory

Result is, i ended up with and empty ‘no guide selected’ message 😉

Hopefull this little story clarifies one another a bit 🙂

Is there a way to make this work, rather than copying and playing wow on an external HD or am i missing something ?

Kind regards

the keyJust wanted to share the answer with you all. 😉

Before you start it never hurts to make backups 😉

1. Close WoW

2. For instance, if you’re on the laptop. Copy X:World of WarcraftWTFAccountSavedVariablesTourGuide.lua
onto e.g. a usb flashdrive or email it to yourself. (Where ‘X’ is the drive letter you’ve installed WoW).

3. Fire up the desktop, plug in the flashdrive and copy the ‘TourGuide.lua’ to X:World of WarcraftWTFAccountSavedVariablesTourGuide.lua

4. Start WoW and you’ll notice that you can continue Jame’s guide without having to click every quest which you’ve just done already on the other pc.

probably stoopid noob questionHI 🙂 If you die in sunken temple, then how can you get back into the instance, since it seems you cannot swim when you are dead. 🙁 and we need to swim underwater to get into the temple. tried but when you get to the water part it is like hitting a wall and cannot get under.

You can swin under water while dead!Hello nimuwe.

You can swim under water while dead, by using the mouse. You can swim under water by using the mouse alive too 🙂

Just right-click on your mouse, maintain the button pressed, and rotate your character so that it faces your feet – and walk (using your keyboard key or by clicking both buttons of your mouse). That’s done, you are under water!

In general, it is a better choice to use your mouse to do your moves instead of the keyboard – it may be a little tricky at the beginning to master it, but later it will be very helpful in many conditions!

Good swim,

Your guides are excellents,Your guides are excellents, that’s a fact.
But when i create a toon, and let him play with full rest and full heirloom, i have to drop 50% to 66% of them, because things start to turn grey : heirloom + rest = incredible amount of xp with no effort.
So, i think a faster way of leveling is possible.

But i was not aware than total beginners made their way here too. And so, guides “with no help” seem more important to me now than guides “with heirloom and rest”.

Keep up the good work 🙂

The guides were initiallyThe guides were initially tuned for playing before the first time Blizzard sped up the leveling experience with TBC. And heirlooms just messed things up even more. Just ignore some quests when they turn green or grey and live with the fact that you’ll be quite a few levels in advance until Cataclysm comes out and all the new guides are out. Personally I tend to use the dungeon finder as well when I level up, making me drop up to 70% of the quests. It’s not as fun as before, but neither is WoW.

Mavet, 80 DK onMavet, 80 DK on Boulderfist

The addon is great for leveling. I leveled several toons, both allies and horde, from 1-80 using the addon (and the written guides before that) in 9 or 10 days played, and this is while spending time on leveling two professions, cookig and first aid to 450.

However. I am now trying to achieve the Loremaster title. It would be a great help if the addon incorporated the written guides for SMV, and the part of Netherstorm. The rest of the quests in Netherstorm are all pretty well thoght out, and allow for efficiet circuits. In addition, it would be cool to add the needed quests in Nagrand and BEM.

The horde eastern kingdom guides easily allow you to complete the achievment, but the guides for Kalimador do not, leaving you with about 100 quests short. Note that people going for the loremaster are usually level 80, with decent gear. So all elite quests in BC, including most 5 men instances in regular mode are easily soloable. that is you can solo the bosses and not agro the minions. A “raid” of 3 level 80 (tank, healer and DPS) with decent gear (item level 232-264) can do all 40 men raids in the old world.

This my “wish list”

Thanks for the great guide.

Sadly, this probably won’tSadly, this probably won’t be implemented until after Cataclysm – we just have too much to do 🙁

But, once Cataclysm comes out, our guides will be comprehensive zone guides rather than just leveling guides. You can use a slider to determine how “complete” you want the guide to be. For people working on Loremaster achievements, setting it to the most complete should take you through pretty much every quest in the zone.
