Base Stats Theory : Pre-Raid Gear : Enchanting : Gems

As promised I have a more detailed guide of Holy Paladin Healing. This is part 2 of the help desk which I first launched in 4.0.1 times.  Much of this guide is based on the research and therory crafting from the creator of Vilepickle.com;  content and quotes from this guide are used WITH PERMISSION from him, who I extend my deepest thanks to.

), but I just can not justify it’s usefulness via gems and enchants.  For mastery to be great, we need a LOT to be overly effective.  It is not a dead dog, but is in no way superior to haste.

Crit – Secondary

Crit does not boost out regeneration like it used to, so Critical has been numbed a LOT for us.  A definite one to chose to reforge out of if you feel the need to boost Spirit or Haste.  Crit isn’t useless however, as bigger heals are nice, but just an impractical stat to go gaga over.

Therazane – Honored

Back:

1.) Enchant Cloak – Greater Intellect
2.) Enchant Cloak – Intellect

Chest:

1.) Enchant Chest – Exceptional Spirit
2.) Enchant Chest – Peerless Stats

This is down to choice, but on the grand scheme of things Spirit is my preference on early reaid/pre raid gear

Wrist:
1.) Enchant Bracer – Exceptional Spirit
2.) Enchant Bracer – Greater Speed

Again, the #1 choice is focussed on early raiding. As mana retention seems to become easier then Speed will be best.

Hands:
1.) Enchant Gloves – Haste
2.) Enchant Gloves – Greater Mastery

Mastery doesn’t have much usefulness in early raiding, haste is much more handy

Waist:
Ebonsteel Belt Buckle

Legs:

1.) Powerful Ghostly Spellthread
2.) Ghostly Spellthread

Feet:

1.) Enchant Boots – Lavawalker
2.) Enchant Boots – Earthen Vitality
This is a nice way to get a bit of mastery.  ALWAYS get the enchants with run speed enchants for PVE raiding.  You should not be specced into Persuit of Justice, and the minor run speed increase can have MAJOR benefits. (In my hardcore guild in LK to even be considered for an application you had to have Tuskar’s Vitality, regardless of class/roll)

Weapon:
1.) Enchant Weapon – Power Torrent
2.) Enchant Weapon – Heartsong

Most people seem to be going Heartsong, however I believe the ratio of Int (500) vs Spirit (200) provides much more benefit with Power Torrent than Heartsong.  However, Heartsong is a great deal cheaper and still very good.

Shield:
Enchant Off-Hand – Superior Intellect

Red: Brilliant Chimera’s Eye (JC) : Brilliant Inferno Ruby

Blue: Purified Demonseye

Yellow:Reckless Ember Topaz

Meta: Ember Shadowspirit Diamond

Prismatic: Brilliant Chimera’s Eye (JC) : Brilliant Inferno Ruby

Another and most importantlyAnother, and the MOST important reason to pick PT over HS is it looks way cooler.

Heartsong is still a vastlyHeartsong is still a vastly inferior enchant on the grand scheme of things.  People struggling to hit the 2300-2500 spirit may well be doing good to choose it.  Most people are getting  Heartsong due to it being a much more accessible and cheaper enchant.  I have read the theory you posted before, but it just still doesnt step up to PT’s legitimacy as the best weapon enchant for holy paladins, esp when timing it’s proc to use it in conjunction with DP.8% Run speed is more than enough run speed enchant, 15% RSI is just overkill,  unless maybe on dial up, or a bit slow reading raid awareness. That being said POJ spec is not good for PVE in comparison to other specs unless possibly you are still in a 25 guild with 2 strategically specced paladins to operate in different capacities, but no where near good enough in comparison to other specs in starter raid situations, esp in 10 person one holy paladin composition.Your points are valid and welcome”ly” objective, but i think rather niche in some respects.

For paladins, two additionalFor paladins, two additional factors:
    1) Need at least two Reckless Topaz just to match the meta gem, even if socket bonuses might suck.
    2) Changing one Reckless Topaz for a Brilliant Ruby is still worth it for a socket bonus of 10 Int (Trading 10 Int for 20 Haste)

Outside of those two, it’s the same rules as what you just said, as far as I know.

heartsong vs power torrent”Most people seem to be going Heartsong, however I believe the ratio of Int (500) vs Spirit (200) provides much more benefit with Power Torrent than Heartsong. However, Heartsong is a great deal cheaper and still very good.”

The reason most people pick Heartsong is because of the ICD.

Heartsong has an ICD of 20 seconds and lasts 15 seconds. At its minimum, it’ll be down only 5 seconds, on average somewhere around 10-18 seconds due to the proc chance. So it’s up 45-55% of the time.

Power Torrent has an ICD of 45 seconds and lasts 12 seconds. At it’s minimum it’s going to be down 33 seconds, on average around 40-45 seconds due to proc chance. So it’s up about 20-25% of the time. A little less than half the uptime of Heartsong, so even though 500 Int looks much superior to 200 Spirit at a glance, they really are kinda balanced.

Right now, because at low tiers mana regen is still a concern, people are picking up heartsong because it (a) provides superior mp5 (b) is less spikey, even if it sacrifices the better hp5 from Power Torrent.

At later tiers, as gear gets more spirit, power torrent will probably start getting used much more. But for now, that’s basically why Heartsong is more popular. Well, that -and- as you mentioned, cheaper. =p

As for the feet enchant, I’d still toss up the Haste boot enchant as a mention for the people that -do- spec into Pursuit of Justice. 31/3/7 is still a valid spec just because it’s 15% movement vs 8% from boots. It’s generally not -necessary- simply because between 8% movement and speed of light, but it’s not an entirely ‘wrong’ choice either.

It looks like in your gemmingIt looks like in your gemming section you may have mis-matched the blue and yellow gems. Also a brief explanation of when to match gem sockets and when not to would be excellent. I know for resto druids we should only match gem sockets in order to make our meta work and if the socket bonus from changing a single gem is 20 int or greater.

Looks awesome as always Jezz!Looks awesome as always Jezz! I agree with kayeich that some [ hr ] might be nice to break up the sections, and “Back to the Top” being left justified just above section titles looks a little odd, but overall I like the presentation a lot and the matching pretty header images are a nice touch. Thanks for this, as always!

    Two more comments:
    1) YourTwo more comments:
    1) Your guide is in the wrong section. You have it in the class section, not specifically the paladin section.
    2) I would recommend putting the
tag between sections. It’s a little jarring how sections are split without the divider.

Oh, and you might want toOh, and you might want to have a section for profession alternatives (ie, shoulder inscription, ring enchants, engineering goggles, synapse springs, draconic embossment – intellect, darkglow embroidery, etc)

SpiritI knowwww….. I hate the little gender confused stat for it’s akwardness.  In THIS chapter I prefer it to be considered a primary stat as for it’s balance with intel, as I don’t want glancers to think oh hai int, i will spam you silly. Edit incoming though
