WoW-Pro Addon

This is an addon for ingame guides of every sort, including the famous guides by Jame: Alliance/Horde

Please be considerate because this addon has not been made by a professional! If you find errors please make a screenshot and send it to me (Jahwo) with a description of what you did when the error occurred.

If you find mistakes in the guides or wrong/missing coordinates please write a comment or send me a PM.

Currently Included

  • Maw’s Human Leveling Guide (1-12)

  • Jame’s Leveling Guide Dragonblight (74-75)
  • Jame’s Leveling Guide Grizzly Hills (75-77)
  • Zernij’s Durotar Leveling Guide 1-12

More guides will follow soon.

  1. Download the latest version of the Addon: WoW-Pro Addon (v0643)
  2. Unzip the package
  3. Copy the folder WoWPro to your Addons folder. (\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons)

How to use it

  • Before you start with the guides you should bind a key to the “Next Step” function. You can do that by going into the Key Bindings-Menu (press ESC –> Key Bindings) and scroll down to the bottom.There you should find a Option called “JamesAddon Next Step“. Bind a key to it you can easily reach, because you’ll use it a lot.
  • To open a guide click on the button. The WoW-Interface menu will open. There you can choose a guide from the categories “Alliance“, “Horde“, “Both” and “Other
  • In the options menu you can also change the transparency of the frame. Just drag the Transparency-slider to the right for more transparency.
  • If you want to go to an other step you can enter the step-number in the edit box at the bottom and press enter.
  • Many steps have a coordinate you have to go to. The arrow at the topleft circle shows you where to go. If it shows to the top and becomes golden you’re on the right way.
  • Additionally you can see the distance to the actual target in the progressbar next to the arrow.
    If you reached the coordinate the arrow will change to this:
  • You can toggle the window wit the slash-commands /jamesaddon or /ja
  • You can change the height by dragging the top or bottom of the textarea. The area where you can drag will change red if you move your mouse over it, like that:

Now you’re ready to go! Choose your guide and start leveling.

Include new Guides

If you downloaded a single guide from the list below, or got it from wherever else you should have a .lua file.

Put this file into the Guides-folder in the Addon-folder. The full path is:

World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\WoWPro\Guides

Now you have to register that guide in the “table of contents“. Just open the “Guides.xml” file with a text-editor of your choice.
There you have to add a line between the < Ui > and < /Ui > tags:

<script file="theguide.lua"/>

Where theguide.lua is the filename of the guide you want to add.

Single guides

more to come…

    Since I’m already to 80 onSince I’m already to 80 on my main I won’t be able to test this for a while until I start leveling my alt. But once I do I’ll be sure to load this up. Followed your post on the forums and like the direction you’ve taken with the addon. Sorry I can’t look at it yet. 😛

      Ok. I used it to finishOk. I used it to finish Dragonblight and i must say it was very enjoyable being able to play in full screen.

      The directional arrow is very useful and nicely done. I didn’t see any bug so far but i also closed the window and wasn’t able to figure out how to bring it back.

      Very nice work !

    Sound very good, that wasSound very good, that was THE missing feature of Jame’s guide : have them in game.
    Can we have a video of the working addon (as “images speak better than words”) ?
    Can we use it in non english environnement ?

    Thank you anyway.

    Awesome job, very well done.Awesome job, very well done. One suggestion, maybe when you click the next step if there is a npc you need to interact with it could auto target that npc? Thanks for such a great addon!

    • img
      Jan 2, 2009 @ 19:36

      I don’t think aThanks 🙂

      I don’t think a auto target is necessary beacause the coordinates send you directly to neraly every npc in the guides. Also auto-targeting is not ver reliable. 🙂

    Hey nice job. I tried itHey nice job. I tried it this afternoon but sadly I don’t have any character available at the moment for this level bracket, so I could only check the layout. It’s looks promising though.

    One suggestion:

    It would be great to be able to minimize the window. I clicked it away once and then I couldn’t get it back up. I think it would be a nice addition, being able to minimize it / maximize it at will.

      Jan 2, 2009 @ 19:32

    Haha, nice it’s the hordeHaha, nice it’s the horde Dragonblight guide, my Tauren Boomkin just finished the Borean guide, so I’ll check it out 😉

    BTW, how hard is it to implement a guide into the addon?
    Can you put it on Curse?
    How do we know when there’s a new version?

    one more thing, when there is room for it, there could be more steps at one time.
    It’s annoying when each step is like

    I’d like to helpI want to contribute to this. I took a look at the code and it seems pretty straightforward; even a coding newbie like me could do it pretty easily, I think. Who would I collaborate with to make sure both of us aren’t doing the same one? Or do you want this to be a one-person project for consistency’s sake?

    Awesome job!Plugging the guides into this addon is a huge job, and many people seem keen to help out, so I did a quick guide showing peeps how to plug the guides in themselves. I’ll leave it to sit there, it’s up to Jahwo if he wants to accept help or organise some kind of way for people to contribute, but it’s extremely easy to do, just time-consuming.

    Will this support dungeon guides as wellJust as a thought, but will this support the various dungeon guides on this site as well? Would be great to make sure you have all the quests before venturing in as well as having a guide on the various bosses so you would not have to go out of the game to find them.

    Something to think about perhaps. Otherwise, this is a great idea and I will be getting the add-on to start helping tonight!

    Hrm :/

    I guess this wasHrm :/

    I guess this was bound to happen eventually.

    See, I’ve been doing something similar; I’ve been writing a plugin for the [url=]TourGuide[/url] addon by Tekkub. Admittedly, I’ve been a wee bit slack about it, but so far I’ve managed (Horde side, haven’t even looked at Alliance yet):

    Hellfire Peninsula
    Terokkar Forest
    Nagrand (this should take you to 70… I think)
    Howling Fjord
    Borean Tundra
    ~50% of Grizzly Hills

    Unfortunately, the TG format, while pretty much as time consuming as yours (perhaps a little less, it would come down to familiarity, I’d say), is pretty much incompatible.

    While perhaps not as pretty (and requiring an external plugin for coordinates, namely the addon TomTom), TG does have the advantage of automatically moving on upon objective completion (just that it occasionally takes some… imaginative formatting).

    So, I guess the question is now… what do I do with it? If this one is going to become the standard, I’d rather just cut my losses and not waste any more time transcribing Jame’s guides into TG format…

    So… what now? 😕

    • img
      Jan 6, 2009 @ 12:29

      Oh damn… That must’ve beenOh damn… That must’ve been a lot work you’ve put in there. I’m really sorry this happened now, but why didn’t you say anywhere that you’re doing that 😕 😉

      Mhmm. I really don’t now what to do now because i don’t want your work to be unvalued but it also seems like the “Jame’s Addon” is pretty accepted by the users =/

      I’m sorry.. I don’t know.

      • img
        Jan 7, 2009 @ 1:34

        No worries… I contactedNo worries… I contacted Jame about it, but figured I wouldn’t put anything out until it was done. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so I didn’t want to publish an unfinished product. I guess I should have seen it coming; just a little put out, I think.

        Anyway, I’m throwing together an instructions page, should be done… soonish. It’s going to be a little slap-dash though, so don’t expect it to look too pretty. 😛

        EDIT: [url=]Finished[/url]. For what it’s worth…

      Well honestly, this is aWell honestly, this is a very important decision and I think the only fair way to take it is to pick the addon which people think is better.

      Here’s what I will do:

      I’ll try one section of the guide with Jahwo’s addon and then another section of the guide with TourGuide.

      I’d really appreciate if a few other trusted members and above would do the same and tell me which is the best of the two addons.

      Based on that we’ll then choose one addon as the standard and we’ll go from there.

      Black Cat, could you please create a guide page with an explanation on how to use your addon and links to the zones files we need to download?

      • img
        Jan 6, 2009 @ 12:43

        There’s one big advantageThere’s one big advantage with Jahwo’s addon for now though: he can take requests to improve the addon and add new features (he’s already doing it).

        I don’t think this would be possible with tekkub’s addon on the other hand.

        The advantage with tekkub’s addon is the quest objective tracking system. I’m not sure if that would be possible to add in Jahwo’s addon, but if it’s possible, there would be no question which of the two addons is best.

        Anyway, I’d like to hear everyone’s opinion on this, because this is a very important step for wow-pro.

          As a user, I don’t feel likeAs a user, I don’t feel like auto-completion is important or even desired. Maybe I arrived at the place I was supposed to, but I haven’t actually completed the step there. If it moves on before I want it to, I won’t see Jame’s awesome tips on how to do the quest. But maybe I simply misunderstand the auto-move-on thing.

          I’ll have to check out this alternative addon and see how it works. Thus far, I really like what Jahwo has done, but not having seen the “competition”, I can’t really make a fair recommendation.

    Very good.So, I have just finished Dragonblight using this guide (I’ve started with this addon, worked with the site and I did the last 40% with the addon. So, I see you have improved a lot, now it’s nearly perfect for me. It’s easily movable, re-sizeable and finally it is very easy to browse to the steps. The only thing I miss it’s the Dragonblight group quest-map, but I know it is impossible to add that in the addon. Anyway, once I clear the group quests in DB, I’ll go onwards wit Grizzly Hills , always using the addon. I hope that you keep it updated mate 🙂

    A changelog for theA changelog for the new version, mostly interesting for the guide-writers 🙂

    – Options in the WoW-Interface options menu(i know it looks like shit, but at least you don’t have to look at it all the time 😉 )

    – bb-code like color changing with [i][ color=FFFFFF ]Text[/color][/i]
    – predefined colors with the tags [i][quest][/quest][/i], [i][location][/location][/i], [i][objective][/objective][/i], [i][item][/item][/i],[i][npc][/npc][/i],[i][coordniate][/coordinate][/i] (the colors i use in my guides… )
    – the icons can be made with tags, too. !U would be [U] and so on

    – a few changes on the way how guides are implemented:
    – the new file-design can be seen in “Guidesexample.lua”
    – the guide must be “registered” in the “table of contents” which is the file “Guides/Guides.xml”, should be pretty obvious how, if you look at the file, but I’ll explain it somewhere somewhen ^^
    – the addon is not anymore restricted to james guides 😉

    – last and definitly not least: step-finishing detection, or something like that xD
    – it’s possible to register events, and if they are finished the next step will show up.
    – possible events atm: quest accpet, quest turn in, kill xx mobs, loot xx items
    – implementation is a bit.. mmhm will explain it somewhere somewhen 🙂

    NO changes have to be made to the formatting of existing guides. Just the changes, so the file looks somewhat like “example.lua” and the entry in “Guides.xml”

    Oh, and it’s called WoW-Pro addon now 😀

    Jahwo 🙂

    edit: oh and Jame, I had to upload it to again… =/ Would be great if you could load it to the wow-pro webspace again?! 🙂

      I know I can find/replace for the opening tags, but the closing tags were in the past all the same. It seems like it will be a pain to fix all of them. Will we be able to leave the old code as is, or will it need to be updated?

        Yep, head into theYep, head into the WoWPro.lua file, and scroll down to the section that defines all the tags. It looks like this:

        [code]s = string.gsub(s,”%[color=(%x*)%]”,”|cFF%1″)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[/color%]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[quest%]”,”|cFFFFFF00″)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[/quest%]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[location%]”,”|cFF33cc00″)

        Then just change the tags how you want (though, it’d be much better to update the master addon, that way you don’t end up with a bunch of tags unique to each guide.

        For the sake of illustration, I’ve taken those changes you suggested (and only them) and bolded them for emphasis:

        [code]s = string.gsub(s,”%[color=(%x*)%]”,”|cFF%1″)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[/color%]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[b][q%][/b]”,”|cFFFFFF00″)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[b][/q%][/b]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[b][l%][/b]”,”|cFF33cc00″)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[b][/l%][/b]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[objective%]”,”|cFFFF0000″)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[/objective%]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[item%]”,”|cFFFFAA44″)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[/item%]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[npc%]”,”|cFF4444FF”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[/npc%]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[coordinate%]”,”|cFF999999″)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%[/coordinate%]”,”|r”)
        s = string.gsub(s,”%“,””) [/code]

        N.B. The first couple of lines aren’t showing up correctly, I’d guess that’d be because they’re also BBcode. They involve the basic color tags.

    Some notes on the automaticSome notes on the automatic step finishing thing now.
    As I said in the changelog there are some conditions you can register to a step and if those are finished the next step will show up.
    There are 5 types of those conditions:

    – getting a quest
    – turning a quest in
    – killing xx monsters
    – looting xx items
    – reaching the coordinate

    the syntax is pretty straightfoward once you’ve seen it, it hink:

    this line registers a get-quest condition. It’s finished if the user get’s the quest with EXACTLY the name after the [i]=[/i].

    [code] [/code]same thing with turn in.

    [code][/code] is finsihed after looting the amount after the second equality sign of the item with “Item name”

    [code][/code] same thing only with mob names.

    [code][/code] is finished if the user is at the coordinates of the step.

    You can out those everywhere in the text of a step.

    An example: We want to move to the next step after 15 “Bears” have been killed and 10 “Meat” have been looted.

    [code]{“[K]Kill 15 [objective]Bears[/objective]|n[L]Loot 10 [item]Meat[/item] [b][/b]”,0.1312,0.5542},[/code]

    you can add as many of those conditions to the step as you want.

      Nice !

      But a question: ifNice !

      But a question: if someone uses the addon with, for example, the french client, i guess the automatic step finishing script won’t work for him.

      But will he still be able to use the addon by manually going to the next step ?

      Alright, sounds great. SoAlright, sounds great. So both addons can have that feature, not only TourGuide. Make me lean towards your addon a little more.

      I’m still not decided yet. I’d like more opinions.

      Something i’d like to seeSomething i’d like to see with the addon is a way to make a clickable button or event that will automatically jump the user to a specific step number.

      Step 5 -> click/event -> step 14

      Not sure if it’s doable though.

    Are thereJust wondering.
    Are there plans to implement co-ord mapping? Tested this out and I personally found it much harder to find where I’m to go just following the arrow. Used TourGuide before and I found it’s mapping to be extremely useful in being able to see on the world map at a glance where I need to go.

    Great Addon! – but a little sugestion ;-)Afternoon,

    Top work so far, have been testing the Grizzly Hills part from the beginning as when I came to look at the site to get Jame’s guide I noticed your add-on and thought I’d give it a try =) was perfect timing!

    I have to say, even though I use dual monitors, so always have one with the guides up, the add-on is still much faster, and having the little pointer and distance to the location is great!

    [size=7] (not sure this is the right place but here goes)[/size]
    Last night I found a small but though
    [color=#ff0000]Grizzly Hills Guide – Step 92 -[/color]
    It gave me some crazy co – ords that where miles away, not sure if it was just a typo in the add-on or if it just bugged on that particular step =? anyway the co – ords should be [color=#ff0000]34.39 / 32.62[/color]

    And a small feature request –
    Could you add the ability to key bind a previous step like you have for next step, I know its only little, but would be great =)

    Bar that top work, its taken me just over 2 hours to get to step 103, without me rushing about like a mad man so I’m chuffed with that =P

      yes that was a typo inHi,
      yes that was a typo in the guide, thanks 🙂

      I’ll add the feature if I continue on the addon. atm I’ve stopped working until there is a decision.

    A bug? or am I wrong…I tried to use your method, questing using . But when i try use the Blowing Hodir’s Horn quest in Storm Peaks, i cant get it to work. I dont know if u should use another symbol for the ‘ I have tried with ‘ and ´and `and none of them works :s
    My line is looking like this:
    {“!GGet the quest |cFFCC9933[80]Blowing Hodir’s Horn|r“,0.641,0.650},

    and doesn’t work 🙁 please help me 🙂

      I’m sorry but I don’t quiteI’m sorry but I don’t quite understand what your problem is. Please tell me what version you are using (the one were you can implement guides “on your own”?) and if there is anything that actually works and be a bit more specific about your problem if that’s possible 🙂

      The code you have there seems to be fine.

        Jan 8, 2009 @ 21:02

        Im using the version, thatIm using the version, that can be downloaded further up on this page(downloaded today). My problem is when im using the thing were u are “getting a quest and then automatically go to next step”, when quest names that contain ‘ wont automatically go to next step. It works when in writing a quest that doesn’t contain ‘

        {“!GGet the quest |cFFCC9933[80]Hot and Cold|r“,0.631,0.629},
        {“!GGet the quest |cFFCC9933[80]Blowing Hodir’s Horn|r“,0.641,0.650},

        The first line is fine, it works if i take the quest it will automatically go to the next step.
        The second line doesn’t work, if i take the quest, it wont go to the next step. and i think it is because of the ‘ in the quest title.

          I can’t believe that theI can’t believe that the first step works O.o
          you have to register the condition in the step, like explained in a commen further down.

          the first step would look like this:

          [code]{“!GGet the quest |cFFCC9933[80]Hot and Cold|r“,0.631,0.629},[/code]

            [code] {“!GGet the quest |cFFCC9933[80]Hot and Cold|r“,0.631,0.629},[/code]

            [code] {“!GGet the quest |cFFCC9933[80]Blowing Hodir’s Horn|r“,0.641,0.650},[/code]

            But the last one, still wont work :s

    I really like the automaticI really like the automatic step finishing you’ve implemented, it works brilliant! 🙂
    Just one question: would it be possible to add a level condition to the list of conditions? This condition would allow the player to proceed to the next step in the guide once he/she reaches a certain level.
    I’m currently trying to add Boston’s 1-12 Dun Morogh Leveling Guide to the add-on (not all of it, seeing as the final decision concerning which add-on will be used still needs to be decided), and sometimes it asks the player to grind a little to the next level. It would be cool if the guide would automatically proceed to the next step once the player reaches this next level.

    Kind Regards,

      Thanks a lot
      If I continueThanks a lot 🙂
      If I continue on the addon I probably will add more possible conditions. I think the most needed would be a on-quest-complete condition. The on-level thing should be doable, too.

    WorldMap trackingHi

    I’m a user of the Questhelper AddOn, and have been testing yourse lately. I must say, it’s WAY better then Questhelper.
    Only think I’m missing is the icons on the world map telling you exactly where the objective is, as there can be buildings blocking youre way when following the arrow.

    Again, Love the AddOn

    • img
      Jan 9, 2009 @ 19:55

      I’m thinking about replacingI’m thinking about replacing the arrow with the TomTom addon, or at least give the possibility to do that, because it would make many things easier… Also my arrow isn’t even working correctly 😀 maybe someone noticed it, it does not point directly to the target it some cases, but sends you in an awkward curve.. and I don’t have the slightesd idea why this could be.

      • img
        Jan 9, 2009 @ 19:58

        I think that would make aI think that would make a huge difference in the addon Jahwo. I find the little one a bit hard to follow myself, but how will that affect the coord notation in the .lua file?

        • img
          Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:04

          it (hopefully ) wouldn’tit (hopefully :P) wouldn’t change anything about the guide .luas, although it would give new possible features, like multiple coords per step

          • img
            Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:17

            cool was just wonderingcool 🙂 was just wondering

          • img
            Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:25

            If you want you can add itIf you want you can add it yourself, by editing the WoWpro.lua and add this line:
            [code]if TomTom then TomTom:AddZWaypoint(GetCurrentMapContinent(), GetCurrentMapZone(),
            (WP_currentX*100), (WP_currentY*100), “”, false) end[/code]

            after those two lines:

            [code]WP_currentX =[WP_currentStep][2]
            WP_currentY =[WP_currentStep][3][/code]

            just search for them

            keep in mind that the waypoints only go away after you reached them or you delete them by hand. This snippet just adds a new coordinate on going to a new step.

            • img
              Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:27

              Arrow comes up perfectlyok it brings the TomTom arrow up perfectly but don’t have someone in the lvl range to test out if it points right (though I am sure it does) only thing that seems to be missing is the text as to what it is pointing to but I am sure that is because it is just reading our coords preset into the code and (on mine at least) they are not named to give a descriptor.

              Thanks 🙂 I really think that small change will make a huge difference 🙂

              • img
                Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:36

                Well there isn’t even eallyWell there isn’t even eally anything that would make sense putting under the arrow, except maybe the coords itself. I don’t think it makes much sense to write the whole step there 😉

                • img
                  Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:50

                  I have seen in several otherI have seen in several other addons them using that functionality but I agree with the guide right there in front of you it would be kind of redundant.

            • img
              Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:31

              and if someone ever wonderedand if someone ever wondered if it’s possible to make the tomtom arrow NOT disappear 10 yards away of the target (I did! 😉 ), you can chage it if you type in your chat:
              [code]/script TomTom.profile.persistence.cleardistance=3
              now it will point to the target until you’re only 3 yards away ;D
              If the UI gets reloaded this will change back to 10

      • img
        Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:00

    I’m having problemsHello 🙂

    I’m having problems adding multiple conditions to a guide step and I was wondering if you could help me or explain what I’m doing wrong. 🙂

    This is the step: {“!MHead south. |n!KKill any troggs you find there. |nStay here until you get 6 [objective]Rockjaw Troggs[/color], 6 [objective]Burly Rockjaw Troggs[/color] ‘”‘.”,0.303,0.752},

    (Note: I’ve added the (‘) to the () because otherwise the conditions wouldn’t show up. :?)

    The problem is that when I kill 6 Rockjaw Troggs, the guide automatically advances to the next step, regardless of how many Burly Rockjaw Troggs I’ve killed. It will only jump to the next step when I’ve killed 6 Rockjaw Troggs. When I kill the 6 Burly Rockjaw Troggs first, nothing happens. I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong, but nothing I try seems to work. 🙁

    Kind Regards,

      I’ve tried it out myself andI’ve tried it out myself and your code is correct, but I’ve made a pretty stupid mistake, so that, if there are more than one of the same conditions in a step, only the first one will be registered =/. I wonder why this did not occur during my testing phase, because I’m pretty sure I tested it.. whatever 😀
      I hope to fix it in an hour or so…

    have a quick questionOn the [url=]wiki page[/url] I have noticed that hosho originally left in the brackets around the quest level in his guide. great so farI created a human and a troll to try the guides and the add-on out. They’re very well done and are working very well. I wanted to know if your going to somehow automatically update things in the future or if I’m going to have to re-download everything once it’s been updated. I can’t wait until the add-on is complete.

      Do a google search for WinRAR if you have Windows machine. That’s what you need to open the file with. It’s similar to WinZIP, but different enough that WinZIP doesn’t work. If you’re on a Mac, you’ll have to google .rar files for Mac’s.

      Not sure I understand….When you download the file you should get a When you unzip that file, you will get a WoWPro0501 folder. Inside that folder will be a WoWPro folder. Copy that folder and paste it into your AddOns folder. When you get to the character selection screen, there is a button in the lower left hand corner that says “AddOns.” click that and scroll down. You should see a WoWPro listed there. If you do, everything is installed correctly.

    Thanks to [url=]rioshin[/url] the WoW-Pro Addon just got a few noew features:

    [/code]this condition is finished after you set your hearthstone to “location”

    [/code]those tags check if the player has (or has not) the class “class”. If this condition is true the step will be shown, else it will be skipped.

    [/code]the same thing with races 🙂

    You can combine these tags as much as you want. For example if you want the step to only be for Undead, Orc and Troll Rogues then it looks like this:

    • img
      Jan 19, 2009 @ 9:02

      WeirdA weird problem you’re encountering, since it should be able to match any string there.

      I’m using

      [code](.+) is now your home.[/code]

      to match for the location name, and .+ grabs the whole line before what I’ve written after it, ie. if WoW sends

      [code]Falconwing Square is now your home[/code]

      the .+ grabs the [i]Falconwing Square[/i] part.

      And in the registration function for the bind event, I use

      which grabs everything between the = and the first end-bracket following it.

      Maybe the reason you’re having a problem is the regBind line? Could you post the line here and let me know what zone you’re in, and I could take a look? (unless it’s too high a level for my 70 DK)

      So far what I’ve added has mainly been features that I’ve had a need of in doing the blood elf starting guide as well as the ghostlands one – what better way to know what is missing? 🙂

      And no problem if you don’t have the time at the moment – I’ve managed to squeak a few extra hours of work on the addon even by occasionally sleeping a few hours less than what I’d need, but it’s a nice challenge to get it up to shape (especially as I don’t know Lua that well – can you believe it’s the first real Lua work I’ve done?)

    New Version ReleasedHi,

    I’ve just released a new version of the WoWPro Addon, version

    A description of the new features can be found in the [url=]HowTo Contribute[/url]; look at the new check and reg conditions available to you.

    (If you manage to spot the reputation stuff in the code, note that it’s not yet usable. I’ll post an updated version once I’ve fixed the problems with them.)

      • img
        Jan 22, 2009 @ 21:03

        Completed StepsThat’s why these checks are coming all the time, and why I try to keep the same things available as both a check and a reg.

        For example, if you have a quest event, for example
        it’s now possible to tell the player to kill the mobs necessary whenever they encounter them and then use a line like
        [code]Now kill [o]Tenders[/o] and [o]Feral Tenders[/o] until you are done with the quest [q][4] Aggression[/q].[/code]

        My aim is to have 100% coverage of completion conditions and corresponding checks, so that the player won’t have to click on [i]next[/i] at any point. 🙂

        • img
          Jan 22, 2009 @ 21:07

          Now I feel a bit ashamed,Now I feel a bit ashamed, but I have a feature request rioshin 😉

          what about a checkreg-tag (cool word :D), to make the work a bit more comfortable.

          • img
            Jan 22, 2009 @ 22:12

            I’ll tryI’ll try to make one, before we hit version 1.0. 🙂

            It’s just that it would have to actually parse all the reg tags in it and decide on what they meant… First up is to get all the necessary checks and regs in (and fix all the bugs found), then finally add in that.

        • img
          Jan 23, 2009 @ 12:23

          Completed StepsLol,

          just teaches me to refresh a page before posting a comment 😀
          sorry about the dual posting 🙁

          I was under the impression that checkQuest evaluated having completed a quest or a step, so

          [quote=rioshin]<checkQuest=Aggression>Now kill [o]Tenders[/o] and [o]Feral Tenders[/o] until you are done with the quest [q][4] Aggression[/q].<regQuest=Aggression>[/quote]

          would only show up when you have already finished Aggression.

            That actually was a mistake by me in the How To. It’s supposed to check if it still needs to be completed, and that’s what the code does; I’ve updated the How To page accordingly.

    Another new versionI’ve just released version of the WoWPro addon.

    This version fixes some bugs, one inadvertantly added by yours truly when doing some tests and forgetting to reset the code back to normal…

    The regFaction and checkRep code should work, although I haven’t had a chance to test them (since I’m not working on reputation with any character). I’d be grateful for any bug reports regarding this functionality (and any other, as well).

      Jan 28, 2009 @ 15:41

      I’m not sure why we wouldI’m not sure why we would need to put more information.

      If you try the wow-pro addon version of Maw’s human leveling guide for example, you’ll see that there is no need for even one bit more information. As it is it’s perfect, adding more information would just make people read extra unecessary lines, which are just a waste of time.

    Resize Horizontally?Is there a way to resize the in-game box horizontally? I’ve only been able to move it vertically, and I would personally prefer the ability to resize horizontally as well.

    Also, as a matter of opinion I think the current vertical resize function is a little clunky. Having to click inside the text frame to resize seems awkward. I know addons like Recount and Omen allow you to resize at the corners. Would that be possible with this addon? Just a thought. Thanks.

    • img
      Jan 29, 2009 @ 13:09

      No with the style itNo with the style it currently has it is not possible to manage a horizontal sizing. This is because the textures are from frames used by WoW itself and those sadly have a fixed width.

      The vertical sizing is possible because the addon uses only the top and bottom parts of the textures and “stretches” only a “custom” middle part.

      if you would stretch it horizontally it would look ugly as hell. And looks go over functionality! 😉

        I figured it was something like thatbut I dind’t think it would hurt to ask. If I can get your input on something – for an event that’s “go here and get these 4 quests”, is it better to have 5 steps in the guide or combine them as one? I’m asking from a standards perspective, as I know functionally either will work.

        • img
          Jan 29, 2009 @ 18:39

          I personally like to haveI personally like to have each quest turn in/get in a seperate step. But we don’t really have standards so it’s up to you.

          step text “standard”Hehe,

          that’s funny. I try to keep the text of the origional guide as much as possible. Sometimes this means there’s alot to read, but most of the time this contains valuable information such as tactics. And this keeps the step text from being mundane

          Go here
          kill that
          go there
          kill that too

          For a set of turn-ins and follow-ups I tend to keep them all in 1 page, but repeat the exact same information in several steps per quest starter/finisher, so you do get directed from coord to coord, with auto-completes.

          To me it is immensely satisfying to see 10+K quest XP coming up and think by myself:

          But as always… feedback is welcome 😉

          Diskspace – Troll Priest – Wildhammer (guide test char)

    Well I am sure Zygor usesWell I am sure Zygor uses this addon. At least all looks the same as the one I downloaded from this site. He only has multiple step on 1 page. For me it’s not handy to read “Kill XX at YY,ZZ” and than need to click on “Next Step” to see I should also “Gather NN from the floor” and such.

    Dunno if its anything different in the human version tho. I never play Ally’s, they stink 😉

      Oh that just depends on howOh that just depends on how the guide was coded. We do have multiple objectives in one step.

      Like for example, if you try Maw’s Human Leveling Guide 1-12 you’ll see, there are multiple objectives on one page, several times. And you don’t need to click on the next step either, it automatically does it when it detects you finishing the objectives.

      The guide you tried just isn’t 100% finished, that’s all.

    Request for a couple adjustmentsIf it’s possible, can you add an Icon for repairing, similar to the hearhtstone one?

    Also, would it be possible to get a regUse function added? Something that would go to the next step when you used a specific item. The case tht made me think about this was placing the Anchorite relic for Fel Spirits in Hellfire. So that you could have the line to use the relic, then the line explaining what to do rather than having to put it all in one line.
