How To Install:

  1. Download the addon using the big shiny button.

  2. Download TomTom from WoW Interface or Curse. TomTom is important! Without it, you won't see the arrow telling you where to go! Get version v70000-1.0.0 or later.
  3. Unzip the downloaded files into your addons directory. (How do I unzip the file?)

    Windows 7/8 location:

      C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons

    Mac location:

      Macintosh Main HD/Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons
  4. Log into the game. In the lower left-hand corner of your character select screen, you should see an "Addons" button. Click it. The WoW-Pro addon and TomTom should both be listed. Make sure they are checked, and you're ready to go!

  5. If you have any trouble installing the guide, stop by our Addon Help Chat Room to get help!

You can also visit the WoW-Pro Leveling Addon Troubleshooting Guide, where you'll find a fix for most common issues.

Don't miss out on updates!

I think this is now fixed in

I think this is now fixed in the version I uploaded last night.

We can't clear any of the guides

We've discovered that if you delete a toon and then later create a new toon with that same name, Blizzard does something kind of crazy. Apparently when you delete a toon, not all of the associated information gets deleted. So if you create a new toon and reuse the old name, they link the old quest completion list to the new toon so the guides are auto populating and can't be cleared.

Took us about an hour of shift+clicks, profile resets, manually unchecking, and deleting the WTF folder before we realized what was going on. But now we can't use the guide to level up the new toon.

Is there anything we can do in the code to make the addon stop looking at those super secret squirrel quest completion lists?

Jiyambi's picture

Now THIS is an unexpected

Now THIS is an unexpected problem. Thanks for describing it in such detail, though.

At the moment, the only thing you could do is go into the addon and edit the lua - I can tell you how to do that if you want.

In the future, I may make an option to disable the completed quest pull. That really bites that blizzard isn't smart enough to clear that database when you create a new character. I mean, they clearly wipe the actual completed quests or you wouldn't be able to level.... *sigh*

Tested it some more

I tested it some more and turns out my brother didn't give me all the information. The toon he is working on is one he transferred to the other faction and it was the neutral quests (Cenarion, Sporegar, etc..) that weren't clearing. So everything is fine and sorry for the misinformation.

Jiyambi's picture

Ah, that's good to hear,

Ah, that's good to hear, since I realized that it's pretty impossible to untangle the completed quest lookup from the addon at this point. Glad to hear everything is working as intended now Smiling

Katrex's picture

Severely bugged

if you have some quests done allready in a zone the guide won't work. Even if you click and make it a tick on the "current guide" it won't accept that you've done it and move on the the next part. so you've got to manually go through all the quests. Even if you get to the right place (complete all the previous steps) it won't accept that you've done the bits you've had. Really annoying.

In my case it's that it doesn't think i've completed the zoram strand when I have...

Quest IDs

This is because most likely the steps in the guide are missing the Quest IDs. I have been running my pally and am finding this in for the Boston 20-30 guides so far. Once I fix the guide it works fine.

Jiyambi's picture

There are a couple places

There are a couple places where I've had reports of this occurring. It would definitely help if you told me the quest where this started, or if it was from the very beginning of the Zoram Strand guide.

We're still in the process of updating the old guide files, so there are some incompatibility issues cropping up that we have to find and deal with on a case by case basis. Please have patience with us Smiling

As mentioned in the post above, the guide is still in a heavy development stage where awesome new features are being added all the time, but unfortunately this does mean there will be bugs.

Question about Sticky Steps

I had a question about the function of sticky steps. I started a new Gnome character, and so I'm in Dun Morogh in the noob area. I have a quest from Talin Keeneye to....kill boars! Anyway, in the guide, this quest uses the Sticky Steps mechanism, and because I have them colored a different way, they are super obvious, and this is cool.

I have a problem though. So, as I understand these steps, they are to be completed "on the way" while doing other things. However, I lose my TomTom arrow that points me to my next objective while the Sticky Step is the "current step," so to speak. I can check the little box in the quest steps list and clear the quest to get my arrow back.

This seems a little counterintuitive to me. Am I supposed to clear the Sticky Step? That doesn't seem right. How is it to remind me that I'm supposed to be doing a given objective if I have to clear it when I get it? Yet leaving it means I lose my arrow. Granted, I've been playing since Vanilla release +2wk, so I know my way around, Eye but still. Seems like I shouldn't lose the arrow.

If I'm in error, by all means tell me what I'm not doing to keep my TomTom arrow present during all relevant steps. Thank you.

missing arrow

The arrow missing is because when I updated it and had added the stickies I didn't put cords in the guide.

I also saw the other arrow on the Delivery quest and can fix that.

Jiyambi's picture

You are 100% correct in how

You are 100% correct in how you intuitively feel the guide should work, and that is how it's supposed to be working. If the arrow is disappearing, it means something is going wrong.

It's probably just an error in the specific guide. The TomTom arrow is fed coordinates from the first NON-sticky step it finds. You can choose manually map sticky step coordinates as well, if you want to, by right clicking the step and selecting "map coordinates" - in fact you can do this for any step in the guide.

If the "map coordinates" option is not available, it's because someone was a naughty guide coder and didn't provide them - theoretically there SHOULD be coordinates for pretty much every step in any of our guides. But they are FAR from perfect yet.

Looking at the guide file you referenced, I can immediately see a mistake in the coding for the turn in for Coldridge Valley Mail Delivery. So you are probably not getting an arrow for that step. I don't see any other errors in that part of the guide just off hand, so please let me know if you notice any other similar problems.

Thanks a ton and I'm glad you are enjoying the guides!

So I'm level 17 now (thanks

So I'm level 17 now (thanks to the sites' guides) and I have to report that I have seen instances where the Sticky Steps worked like I thought they should, and so I do believe what I experienced first was just a bug.

I have been seeing a weird thing. Most of the guides end several steps short of their listed number, and most of the time they aren't automatically loading the next guide. I don't know if those things are related or not. Like, I'm in the westfall guide, and there are no more steps showing up in the list, but it says 79/85.

I've also seen some misdirected coordinates, but it's not a big deal as I know where all this stuff is anyway. Won't matter in Cata anyway.

Jiyambi's picture

The guide load is based on

The guide load is based on the 79/85 number, so if that's messing up, it definitely won't load the next guide.

Next time this happens, please let me know what guide it is. Also, please open up your "Current Guide" window and see if you can scroll past the point you are currently at, and let me know if there is anything strange about the quests (if they are optional quests, or whatever). Let me know the exact step at which the guide stops for you. This will help me troubleshoot Smiling

Hope this is enough detail

Sure thing:

Last step seen: "Redridge Mountains - Fly to Lakeshire, Redridge"
No funny business with the quests themselves, other than "READ THIS - Follow the arrows. Kill defias Highwaymen....etc" step not showing an arrow past the first one.

Excellent report! Will do my

Excellent report! Will do my best to fix this asap!

Just as an update, I haven't

Just as an update, I haven't had a single guide complete and move on automatically to the next one. : /
Affected guides are

Dun Morogh (1-12) Mr. Boston
Loch Modan (12-13) Maw
Westfall (13-15) Maw
Redridge Mountains (15-16) Maw
Loch Modan (16-18) Maw
Westfall (18-19) Maw
Redridge Mountains (19-20) Maw
The Boston Guides from Redridge (20-21) through my current one, Wetlands (25-26)

All have varying numbers of "missing" steps.

GH bugged.

Ok so I decided to comb through GH guide and I think Ifound another bug.

Part 230/332 (?Fate and Coincidence): When I got to this part i promps a Lua Error, skipped to next steps and the guide just stays in 230/332.

Anyone else??

Jiyambi's picture

For whatever reason, GH is

For whatever reason, GH is being quite buggy. I have had a bug at that particular point pointed out in our other bug report forum.

If you get a chance, in the future - copy the lua error and paste it here for me, they help a lot in troubleshooting.

Another solved!!!

Cheers mates

So I found a way of going around the Lua problem that I last reported.

Simple and plain: just make that one part sticky, and finish the chain, you'll eventualy get to the next section. You do have to have it sticky for the rest of GH but it's not really to much of a problem.

I hope this helps and I'll post the lua error soon.

Jiyambi's picture

Thanks for the temporary

Thanks for the temporary fix! Will hopefully find the cause of the problem and fix it soon!

Drudoo's picture

I have the exact same

I have the exact same problem, GH and getting DC cus of this addon Sad

Double Checking

Now to those with problems with Grizzly Hills, was the guide working on all guides you tried before GH? Do an alt, or make one if you don't have any, see if you are still having issues.
If it is only with GH, let us know. Jiyambi, could it be the |T|? That is about the only thing new to that guide I didn't see in the guide before it. Otherwise the guide looks okay as near as I can tell. And even |T| should be okay as it was part of the Tour Guide version.

Jiyambi's picture

The |T| should not even be

The |T| should not even be read at all by my addon at this point, I just can't think how it could be causing the problem. But there may be a missing QID or some other tag that's messed up, and I didn't put a failsafe in for it or something - it could be causing a infinite loop or something to go wrong, which would indeed crash the game.

If anyone feels like combing the GH guide to see if there are any mucked up tags, that would be excellent. Make sure to let me know where/what they are instead of just fixing them, so I cal add a failsafe in case the mistake happens again.

An old version for wlk 3.2?

I'm an Chinese wower, and the version of CWLK is 3.2.2.I used your old addon worked with Tourguide for leveling my mage from 1-80 in TaiWan serve.
But,Now,This great addon updated, and it's not compatible with V3.2.2.I search all the website, but I didn't find a place like the curse provided for old version downloaded.

Jiyambi's picture

Since this addon was started

Since this addon was started after 3.3 came out, I really don't have any way to test and get it working for 3.2. Sorry!

Arixan's picture

I don't think it ever existed

The leveling guides used Tourguide until around February of this year, which was after 3.3 released. So I do not believe the current addon was ever coded to work with any game version before 3.3.

If you still have the old Tourguide files and the actual Tourguide addon, they still work. You will run into a few bugs here and there but not many. It looks like you can even download the 3.2 version of Tourguide.

Major bug!!! HELP

First off i would like to congratulate you for such amazing guides, they have served me plenty, thanks a lot!!

The problem started when I decided to download the add on to finish leveling my lvl 75 warlock. I started using it in Grizzly Hills and it boots me off the game every few minutes, sometimes instantly and promps the "you've been disconected from the server" message. Puzzled Sad

Have you had this problem reported before?? Is there a way to fix it?? or am I totally screwd lol.

I hope I get a quick response. Thanks in advance.

Peace Smiling

Jiyambi's picture

First of all, does it do

First of all, does it do this with only our addon enabled?

I've never experienced this issue, but I have had it reported by one other person, so it appears to be a recurring problem. Does it occur in any other zones, or only in Grizzly Hills?

Thanks, hopefully I'll be able to fix it soon!

Arixan's picture

To check if it is the addon

You need to delete the addon, as well as any saved variables from the addon in your WTF folder. If you use the Curse client, it can do this automatically without having to search for any files.

Really, uninstalling or disabling the addon should be enough. If the crashes still happen, then it is not the WoW-Pro addon. At that point, try disabling all your addons and re-enabling them one by one until the crashes start happening again.

Honestly though, it is rare for an addon to actually disconnect you from the game. The only ones that usually can cause this are querying the server for information and not getting a response quickly enough.

Jiyambi's picture

It's still possible that our

It's still possible that our addon is being bad, even if it happens with another addon enabled. I know there's a conflict with the BlizzBugsSuck addon at the moment.

Thanks for the awesome replies, Arixan. I didn't get to them last night, I was so overwhelmed with stuff after being gone for a week and driving 8 hours yesterday Sad

First of all let me thank you for your quick responses.

Now, it just started working lol, but what I did was reinstalling and restarting my pc and loggin back in, and problem solved. I havent tried in other zones but I will and I'll let you know if I find something odd.

Again thanks a lot. I hope this helps other people to.

AWESOME guide btw. I got 2 solid levels in just 1 day and in very few time!! I'm blown away Laughing out loud.

Still buggy :S

The quest frame, although now doesn't move off the screen it moves upwards sometimes. Also, if i try to minimize, it will work for a bit, then pop down again as a blank frame or if i try to maximise again it will show a blank frame. I then have to hit minimize twice to make the frame appear with the contents inside! The frame is turning out to be quite a nuisance XD

Jiyambi's picture

Hmmm, I'm not experiencing

Hmmm, I'm not experiencing these issues.

Let me know what resize settings you are using for the frame. Also what part of the screen is it in (upper left, upper right, lower left, lower right, etc). And what anchor setting you are using.

This should help me duplicate the issue and see what's going on.

Sorry for late reply

Sorry for late reply. Basically i have changed nothing except that the anchorage is now set to top and the frame sits where it originally should be (Under the mini-map, flush to the actions bars). Also now if when i log in the frame is already higher than it should be (over the mini-map). If i move it down and logoff then back in, it moves back up again. Maybe now you can sort the problem. Again sorry for the late response.

Jiyambi's picture

No worries at all. I have

No worries at all.

I have noticed the behavior you are talking about. It's sort of been a low priority bug in the back of my head, since I'm not really sure what's causing it and it's not game breaking for most people. I will do what I can to find the problem and fix it, but it may be a while.

I am currently at level 33, and i'm sorry to say that this add-on has been very very buggy for me so far. Waypoints are missing every few steps or are incorrect, steps are also missing, but not too often. I just think this guide needs to be tweaked a bit and some of the issues worked out and it would be great. If you are looking for a free guide this is definitely the one to get, but just be warned it will come with some slight issues that are somewhat easy to get around.

Jiyambi's picture

Very true! We do have some

Very true!

We do have some people working on the level 1-60 guides, though they are a lower priority since Cataclysm will soon be released. I think you'll find that, once Cataclysm comes out, our addon will be much more accurate and complete. Until then, we will have to ask for everyone's patience while we update old guides while simultaneously working to add new features and get things ready for Cataclysm Smiling

Gylin's picture

beta addons enabled

and Jiyambi (and her merry gang of coders, testers, and guide writers) so far I've had no errors at all from our addon \o/. Although guides are a bit off Sticking out tongue

That is really exciting! I

That is really exciting! I am very far away from my computer and my beta client at the moment (visiting family) but I was sure I was going to have to redo everything. It's very good to hear that the addon will function in the expansion as is.

When I get home early next week, my first priority will be getting the last few features added to the addon (features which may effect how you code your guides), then getting the guide recorder up and running. Look forward to it!

Addon Update - v1.2.0 - Release

There is a new addon version available! Download it here!

New Features:

  • Coordinates now pull from Lightheaded if it’s installed and the coordinates aren’t provided in the guide (for interim use ONLY – all coordinates will be provided in the future)
  • Manual resizing is now smooth and pretty. Thanks a ton, Silvann!
  • When a step is completed in combat, it is checked off so that it’s clear it is completed. Update will happen when exiting combat.
  • When a quest objective is completed, a © is placed next to it in the quest tracking text.
  • Logic is now in place for step skipping and dependencies! Guide coders: Please use |PRE| followed by the prerequisite’s quest ID for any and all quests with prerequisites! Users: you can left click a step’s checkbox to skip it – right clicking marks it complete manually.
  • New tag for C (complete) type steps – add |NC| on the end for non-combat quests, this turns the icon from the crossed swords into a gear to represent the lack of combat in the step.
  • Multiple quest objectives can be added to a single step using the |QO| tag, just use a ; semicolon in between them.
  • Many guides have been updated. You may want to reset the guide you are on to avoid version conflicts.

Bug Fixes:

  • Guide window will no longer move off the screen when minimized.
  • Night Elf starter guide will no longer cause weird issues on initial load up
  • Errors should no longer be thrown when dealing with partial quest completion steps.

PLEASE NOTE: I will be out of town for most of the week and will be unable to do bug fixes or answer questions. However, with the huge community of helpful folks around here, that shouldn't be a problem!

Jiyambi's picture

I definitely think they are

I definitely think they are our most revolutionary feature, so far anyway.

I just added a nice step skipping feature as well, though it won't be as impressive until we start adding it to guides. I will also be adding step importance ranking, and a few other nice features. But most of these are found in other addons: Sticky steps is, as far as I know, pretty much exclusive to us Smiling

I mean, this is some great addon! It's just as good as zygor's guide too! Or even better if the future modules are added! And also, Can someone explain to me why this is exactly the same in format as to Dugi's Guide? And he has similar modules to his too. ANd it's a commerical product? o.O

Jiyambi's picture

Well, our addons are similar

Well, our addons are similar because both Dugi and Jame's guides used Tour Guide before Tekkub sold it to Zygor. Now we've both branched out, but the addons look similar because we had the same roots.

To be fair, Dugi has people who can work on guides full time, since they are getting paid to do so. Our guides rely on volunteers. But I still feel that, while our updates aren't always as fast, our guides are still pretty high quality considering, and it's nice to know that you are part of a community rather than just a customer for a business. And, ya know, the price is right Laughing out loud

Quest IDs

Does anyone know of an addon or good website to get quest IDs from? I am having trouble getting them and there is a step that is not auto-completing when I accept so I thought I would check the ID first.

Well, the easiest way is to just check WoWHead. The last part of the web adress for any quest is it's quest ID.

Thanks and more.

Thanks, I didn't realize that's how it is done.

I also found a nice macro that will tell you as well.Create a macro using this as the text:

/run print(GetQuestLink(GetQuestLogSelection()):match("\124Hquest:(%d+):"))

Then click the quest in your questlog and hit the macro. It puts the Quest ID in chat for you.

I was going to suggest a macro as well, it's definitely very convenient for quests that are in your log. Wowhead is nice for other quests, since it's mostly impossible to get quest names and IDs unless they are in your log or on the NPC you're talking to.

Noticed something when I minimize the window and then try to maximize, it moves off the right hand side of the screen and has to be pulled back on. Just an FYI
