Patch Version: 3.2.2 Introduction After reading Leveling Talents for Tips for Shaman by Trollvink and Leveling Talents and Tips for Paladins by Irwezsh I was inspired to write my own guide on the Druid, my first and favorite class to level in WoW. Leveling a Druid gives you the versatility to do just about anything you want; whether it be tank, heal or DPS (and this can be melee DPS or mage DPS). In this guide I will focus on leveling a druid effectively and efficiently; including rotations, talents, gear and general tips among other things. The fastest way to level a druid without downtime is Feral, subspeccing into Restoration for a few key talents post King of the Jungle. Balance has its potential, especially after level 40 (when you pick up Moonkin Form and some other talents which reduce your downtime dramatically) but is overall slower then Feral. I leveled my first druid Feral all the way but with my second druid I re'speced to Balance at level 40 for a change in game play. Level 10 - 19 is an exception. You can take the slow bear grind route and not have to worry about a respec later or speed up the process with Balance leveling for 10 levels (I recommend Starlight Wrath - 5/5, Moonglow - 3/3 and Nature's Majesty - 3/3). To do this you will need to also invest in Intellect gear and heaps of water. Feral 10 - 14: Ferocity - 5/5 Restoration 54 - 58: Furor - 5/5 Feral 70 - 72: Improved Mangle - 3/3 Always take the weapon with the best stats. 1 - 9: -Use Wrath from max range and when the enemy reaches you melee it to death. Rotation: Wrath from max range and then root the enemy. Apply Moonfire if it is worth the mana then continue using Wrath until the enemy reaches you, then proceed to melee it to death. Make sure Mark of the Wild and Thorns are applied at all times. 10 - 19: -Use Wrath and then apply Moonfire if you need to range pull. Rotation: Wrath from max range and then apply Moonfire if you need to range pull. Transform into Bear Form, use Demoralizing Roar and then use Maul whenever possible. 20 - 49: -Transform into Cat Form. Rotation: Transform into Cat Form, stealth behind the enemy (or use Feral Charge) and open with Pounce (then Shred if you have 2/2 Shredding Attacks); Ravage if you do not have Pounce. Use Faerie Fire (Feral). Apply Rake and use Claw until you have 5 Combo Points. Use Ferocious Bite or Rip if you do not have it and activate Tiger's Fury. If you are facing multiple enemies let the first target bleed to death while starting the cycle from Rake on the next enemy. 50 - 69: -Same as above, but: Rotation: Transform into Cat Form, stealth behind the enemy (or use Feral Charge) and open with Pounce (then Shred if you have 2/2 Shredding Attacks). Use Faerie Fire (Feral). Apply Rake and use Mangle until you have 5 Combo Points. Use Ferocious Bite and activate Tiger's Fury. If you are facing multiple enemies let the first target bleed to death while starting the cycle from Rake on the next enemy. 70 - 80: -Same as above, but: Rotation: Transform into Cat Form, stealth behind the enemy (or use Feral Charge) and open with Pounce (then Shred if you have 2/2 Shredding Attacks). Use Faerie Fire (Feral). Apply Rake and use Mangle until you have 5 Combo Points. Use Ferocious Bite and activate Tiger's Fury. If you are facing multiple enemies, use Savage Roar after the opening, apply bleeds and let the first target bleed to death and start the cycle from Rake on the next enemy. Instances: Solo: Professions: Dual Spec: Look for stats in the following order: Agility > Stamina > Strength > Critical Strike > Attack Power > Intellect. Agility: Needed for Crit, Armor and Dodge. Also gives Attack Power in Cat Form ( 1 AGI = 1 AP in Cat Form ). Work in progress. Night Elf: Tauren: Both: *Cure Poison can be skipped in favor of Abolish Poison at level 26 but still has some use in PvP (apply Abolish for the tick and spam Cure to get poisons in between ticks). Major Glyph (level 15) - Glyph of Maul Minor Glyph (level 15) - Glyph of Thorns *This glyph is an optional change. If you feel you are using Savage Roar more often the not then it will be worth it. Work in progress. Special thanks to: Jame, Cloud9, Jiyambi, Trollvink, eric, Lycander, Syladind, Kopimi, scoot2112, Souricette, Tim and Scott. I hope this guide has helped you level your druid! You no more need the addon
You no more need the addon to have the mana bar while morphed - it's built-in now.

Updating addons
I've been meaning to update the Addon section for some time; thanks for pointing out we no longer need Druid bar.

The Swift Flight Form quest
The Swift Flight Form quest is also optional now if you want to include it. Trained at 71.

Thanks
Thanks, I've added that to the guide.
Level 40
I have heard from many people that the way to go after level 40 is moonkin and cast as it is much easier and faster i dont know if this is true or not but have heard from many people go ahead and reply with your comments i will be more than happy to see yor opinions

Balance vs Feral for leveling
Balance and Feral level at about the same speed. The difference comes from gear and skill.
If you prefer casting then by all means go Balance, but do realise you will need to heavily invest in Int gear and this is rare until the Outland. Feral leveling has no downtime and as such at this point (3.2.2) it is still optimal, but by no means 'better' or 'faster' then Balance. It's personal preference
.
Spell rotation
I don't agree at your 1-9 rotation, moonfire cost twice as much as Wrath. So insteed of casting Wrath > Roots > Moonfire > whatever. I prefer using Wrath x3 > Meele if its just a regular mob. On tricker mob I use: Wrath x2 > Roots > Go backwards > Wrath x2/3 > Moonfire > anything.
HoT
Basically follow Zerox's cast rotation in bear form....it is slow but effective. As far as heals just when you see yourself getting low drop rejuve and regrowth as quick as possible. If you need to just carry some mana pots with you for awhile until you get invenerate. I just found this freakin spell today and was like ok 6 min. CD but awesome in a pinch. Things get easier trust me I was once a frustrated low level druid know I'm 42 (off and on leveling)...love my kitty form and love to punish.
42 Dyton (Alterac Mountains)
i'm lovin' on this guide until...
i get bear form and it seems all goes down hill. i have no problem pulling mobs and rage is not a factor. My problem is healing! i tried to compensate by throwing some healing spells into the bear form action bar but casting them pulls me back and when i try to shift again i've lost all my rage. First-aid seems to do the same and depending on situation i lose too much rage from eating...
Any suggestions?
Rage Production
I only recently found these guides, and I'm loving them. I did want to add a note that I found another talent build that suggested spending the first five points in Furor talent (I think Balance) even as a Feral Druid. I can honestly say that with that I rarely had problems with bear form. It slows the progression on the Feral tree, but you can respec when you get cat for quest leveling rather than bear grinding.

It's the resto tree. You
It's the resto tree. You will eventually definitely want to take Furor on your way down to Omen of Clarity, and Furor is really nice while leveling even for cats because when you dismount and pop into form, you have some energy to work with right away. I definitely recommend it.

Great Guide, I was
Great Guide, I was just thinking that the cure poison quest is also not mandatory because you get it trained to you at level 22, however i think you can still do the quest but don't focus on it too much.
As far as weapons are
As far as weapons are concerned...Stats are the only important thing to watch for...mainly strength and stanima. An excellent weapon for when you turn 30 is a viscous hammer http://thottbot.com/i13045 . The attack power on it is the best you can find outside of instances until level 45-50ish. If you have predatory strikes 3/3 it increases your AP by 47.
The bad news is its a world drop. You can find them in the AH usually around 20G, which is well worth the investment if you have the money.

Rather get Armor Piercer,
Rather get Armor Piercer, Although it gives a bit less AP, you can get it alot earlier. As a good follow-up, you could take Ironshod Bludgeon.
Armor Piercer Drops in Razorfen Kraul, and Ironshod Bludgeon drops in Uldaman.
~Trollvink
I think that
I think that http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13045 is better than http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9408. Viscous hammer supplies 7 more AP for 2 less stamina to a feral druid. But to each his own.
P.S. I gotta find out how to do links like that

I think I figured it out: [
I think I figured it out:
[ url = http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13045] Viscous Hammer
[ url = http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9408] Ironshod Bludgeon
The only advantage I see of Ironshod Bludgeon is that you can Twink it with BC enchants.

That, and Ironshod is an
That, and Ironshod is an instance drop, while viscous hammer is a BoE, harder to find, that's why I listed instance drops, 'cause BoE items are usually better, but you depend on luck (You can't farm it yourself, and the Auction House doesn't always have it in supply).

So I've just skimmed through
So I've just skimmed through this guide, and there are some things I'd like to point out:
- You could use Wowhead links, instead of thottbot links - you directly see tooltips of the weapons (combined with the URL-command, it will look alot clear)
- At add-ons, copy the addons from my guide, those are useful for leveling - they make the difference.
- Post some links to other guides, for instance the "How to make the most out of quest rewards"-guide
Outside of that, this is a great guide, I agree with the person 'beneath' me about the talents.
3/5.
~ Trollvink
Its a great guide, but I
Its a great guide, but I suggest that in the leveling talent line, you need to get King of the Jungle WAY before you ever even think of getting your Resto talents, and do not get natural shapeshifter until AFTER omen of clarity. OoC is some of the best increase in DPS, surpassed by KotJ.
I also noticed in Northrend while leveling, it is completely unnescessary, and sometimes slower leveling, to begin in stealth, unless its an elite. I just run around out of stealth, because it is actually faster that way, and mobs do not come down any faster if I start in stealth. Just my two cents.

A couple of suggestions
I'd like to first say that this is a great guide. However, there are few things I wanted to say.
First is you might want to put a disclaimer in your talent build letting people know at 50 they are moving to the Resto tree for a short period, then when they move back to the Feral tree.
Second, in instances thorns should be only cast on the tank. This is because the damage from thorns is considered to come from the buffed target, not the caster. Therefore, if someone pulls aggro from the tank they will generate more aggro whenever they are hit, thus making it a little harder for the tank to get back aggro.
Third, you may want to mention that Barkskin can and should be used when pulling multiple mobs/tough mobs.
Also, if you need to step away from a mob and heal but you can't get a root off, use Nature's Grasp for an instant root, then back away and cast.

Looks awesome! However i
Looks awesome!
However i like to have Brutal Impact instead of Primal Precision
But thats just my way of leveling
I like the 4 seconds stun every 30 second.
So....
Definitely been following guide for talents and rotations...I found though...and this is mostly depending how you feel about as a player....I took 1 Point to Feline Swiftness and then 2 to Sharpened Claws...realistically, you are not traveling so far unless in Ashenvale to need to move at 30% for a bit. I just hit 23 (Druid leveling is like a seriously slow process though); it is definitely more enjoyable this time around but still seems so slow. I've stayed in Darkshore/Redridge/Westfall/Loch Modan...I can handle maybe 2-3 levels below me mobs of maybe 3...but on level its still a 1-on-1 battle....the swiftness would help me get out of jams but I really think the critical strike chance being raised helps me to not commit to running...I'm casting Rejuv...and Regrowth thats saved me a couple times as well. But like I said...it is to each his own...but taking Sharpened Claws at least to 2 seems to have increased my killing speed.
My question now though is....at 30 is Feline Swiftness really worth it? Granted it gives you an easy way to escape....cast Roots....or the buff that roots enemies on melee and run like hell...but at 30 you have a mount for travel so is swiftness more for the dodge rating? I feel like I kind of answered my own question but just something I was thinking.

Feral Swiftness
Well, about your question, if you really feel you need sharpened claws take them first and then feral swiftness, but it's not a talent I would completely let out of any pre-raid feral dps build. The 30% increase of movement speed is really nice until 30, and even then you will love it because it also works indoors. You could use the indoors movement speed buff even as a lvl80!!! Also 4% dodge is really great, especially if you want to be able to take more mobs at once, fight elites or tank some instances.
Oh, and about druids being slow, believe me you won't have that impression for too long. You already have cat form and you will see that pounch helps alot and after having spent some points in key-talents you will see that there is not much a druid can't do. Believe me, at lvl 35 I did the Nessingway hunting quests in Stranglethorn Vale which which include lvl41 mobs. And at 60 I killed mobs before the stealth cd run out (10sec).

A few other gear suggestions
There are a few nice crafted items for levelling feral. Specifically, there's the Barbaric Bracers, Deviate Scale Belt and Barbaric Shoulders. The belt is level 18, but is usually considered a twink item so may be expensive to purchase. The Bracers are for early 20s, and the shoulders are for 30s.
If you are a Leatherworker, the pattern for the belt is a quest you pick up from the left eye of the entrance to Wailing Caverns. This quest IS available to alliance.
Great Guide But Question
I guess I am the worlds crappiest druid...doesn't hurt my feelings...I was worlds crappiest mage, 'lock, priest, and shaman too but...some advice is what I am looking for...
The talent and rotation section was definitely helpful for me...this is my 2nd druid, I gave up at 20 the first time....but I still struggle even in 1-on-1 battles, I feel like I'm always taking a butt whooping. Anyone have suggestions maybe...I follow the guide as best as I can by the way and I gear up where I can finding strength gear was an issue today but at 20 that should change. I know this isn't the how to play forum but posts here are a lot easier to read and people are less critical.
I talented the way Zerox said...but my cast rotation is usually Roots...Moonfire...Wrath (until enemy gets to me)...then Bear shift and Maul/Demoralizing Roar. I still end up needing down time for some moderate recovery before next mob...I'd like to be able to kill faster if I could.

I found leveling druid took a while too...
I found leveling druid took a while too, then i reached 20 at it seemed to stagger onto 30. But then from 30 it has been really fast leveling. Just need to be persistent i guess.
I am keeping all my talent points in feral at the moment, and have 2 points on Genesis, for some extra periodic healing and damage. I think i will go only one more point on that too at sometime.
-I have chosen to be dps, btw.

Some thoughts
First off, thanks for giving this a read through!
You'll never be able to learn to play a class well just from what others say; but I'll try my best. Using past experience and the talents I listed above; when I'm playing a level 20 Druid I can solo a mob quite easily (before and after cat form) without losing much HP. A good idea is to open with the cast rotation the suits you best (I usually opt for Wrath from max range for the extra bit of damage, then Moonfire > Roots > spam Wrath until the enemy reaches me, of course this uses more mana) then cast Rejuvenation on yourself, which is more damage negation then a HoT at this point in the game. In Bear Form use Demoralizing Roar ASAP to save yourself even more HP then Maul spam to death. With the extra armor in Bear Form and the healing from rejuvenation you should finish the battle with high HP.
After saying that, you don't really learn the true solo power of Feral until you obtain Cat Form; and even then you may have to wait a few levels to get necessary skills. Cat Form gives a much higher DPS then Bear or spells from level 20 onward, except of course if you are specced Balance/Resto.
Gear starts to really play a part in your leveling post 40, at earlier levels it shouldn't matter as much. Even so, if you are finding yourself constantly on low hp, it may be wise to invest in gear with more stamina as well.
Feel free to drop a PM if you still need some advice on playing a druid

Some details
I agree about not using rip on single targets, especially after you get the 50% crit strike increase on bleeding target on ferocious bite.
Also, Jiramby is right, orange is more easy to read
And now something personal, I think you should first go up to beserk (it's fantastic addition if you use it on cd take every huge pack of mobs you see or to fight elite mobs) in the feral tree and then spend points to get Omen of Clarity. Alternatively you can do a repsec at 60lvl.
And finally I think they made aquatic form trainable with last patch so that section should be changed.
Good work
EDIT: confimed, aquatic form quest is optional now you can train it from the trainer.
Honored Member
Thanks!
Gargh, I can't believe how easy it is to level now compared to BC, or even vanilla WoW..
I'll update the quest list with the Aquatic Form Quest marked as optional.
I picked up Berserk with the WotLK respec and found it not as useful as other talents you could pick up, which is why I listed it so far down in my spec.
Thanks
Thanks for the guide, I find it very helpful to see others opinions on how to spec.

Few thingy's
Hi there,
Thank you making an updated druid-leveling-guide, but there are a few things I want to point out:
- Don't open with stealth + shred before you have the points in Shredding Attack's, it's using too much energy then.
- At the gear section you might want to use the url code, which is:
[ url = www.yourlinkhere.com] HereTheTextThatIsVisible
The result is a much cleaner link, like I linked the talent above here.
- Tiger's fury should never be used unless you have the talent for it, King of the Jungle
- You might want to use the glyphs for Thorns and Rebirth
This were the things I could find and thought that they could use a change. Outside of that nice guide, good formatting, although you might want change the yellow colour so it's abit darker, or something else.
~Trollvink
Tiger's fury
"- Tiger's fury should never be used unless you have the talent for it, King of the Jungle"
Why? Tiger's Fury doesn't cost anything and it doesn't affect the GCD.
Revered Member
Sorry
Ah okay, I remember being told alot to not use Tiger's Fury when it still costed Energy
, thats all.

Orange instead of yellow
I use orange instead of yellow in my guides - it still looks yellow, but its MUCH easier to read.

Hey, that's awesome
Hey, that's awesome
I second Cloud9's opinion on not using rip on single targets while soloing, they generally will die much before the full duration of rip.
Another suggestion:
Add wowhead tooltips to the gear section.

I was thinking of making the
I was thinking of making the same type of guide, but i guess you bet me to it
Overall, it's a nice guide, but I would do some things different. First, the spell rotations. When fighting in Cat Form, i dont recommend using Rip as your finishing move all the way to lvl 80. Sure it does the most damage, but it takes a long time to tick. I would only use Rip against single targets when I know it's going to tick for the actual 12 seconds, if not, use Ferocious Bite (Or Maim, when you get it) at lvl 50+, open with Pounce ->Fearie Fire ->Mangle ->Shred ->Rake ->Maim ->Shred untill dead. Vs. 2-3 mobs: Same opening, Pounce ->Fearie Fire ->Mangle ->Shred ->Rake ->Rip, then change target and start Mangle multiply times and Rake, then Maim and Shred.
For professions, i would recommend leatherworking. If you think its to time consuming or money dropping, drop it, but the profession has some nice items for leveling. The mats are not difficult to get, and if you got skinning aswell, you basiclly dont need to buy any mats.
Looking at stats, i prefer Agility over Strength. Looking at the survivabilty point of view, i think agility will help you a lot more and the crit is important for a Feral.
As of addons i can recommend for a druid, it will be Druid Bar. It's just a nice little mana bar, so you can see how much mana you got while in Bear or Cat form.
But all in all, nice guide
Honored Member
I'll update the rotations
I'll update the rotations regarding the usage of Rip, thanks for pointing this out
. I was planning on adding extra information on fighting multiple enemies today; specifically letting them bleed to death while building up combo points on the next target.
I had never really considered Leatherworking as a profession for my Druids but I do see it's potential gear wise.
I say Strength is the most important stat because it is hard to find on leather gear; usually you will be stuck with Rogue gear (esp. level 60+) which is all Agility and Stamina. You're Agility will be high enough from this so looking for strength gear where possible will help balance it out. Of course this is for Cat Form; tanking in Bear Form is completely different.
I'll add Druid Bar to the Addons list, thanks for that!
