All the guides on wow-pro are FREE, there is no trick, they are just free and will remain free. Enjoy and please contribute!

Tips

Here’s how to enjoy the guides as much as possible, even if you don’t have a 2nd monitor, you can either:

1. Print the guides. There is a “Printer Friendly Version” link at the bottom of every guide, you just have to click on it. However, that might be expansive (and probably expensive), because the guides are big, very big. Another downside is that my guides are updated very frequently, so if you print it you’ll miss the latest updates.

2. Playing WOW in Windowed Mode feels very comfortable while following along with this guide.

  • Keep the guide opened in an internet window
  • Log in to World of Warcraft, press Escape and go to Video Options, tick the following boxes:

Untitled-4.jpg

Click on “Apply“.

Your screen will look exactly as if you were playing wow in full screen mode, besides you will be able to ALT-TAB to the guide INSTANTLY.

This is how I play wow while following my guide, when I don’t feel like booting up my 2nd computer ๐Ÿ™‚

Question– Your guides really helped me out and I want to return the favor, what can I do to help?

Answer– Here’s how you can contribute:

1. Most important and easiest way to help: Spread the word. Tell people about my guide. Your friends, guildmates, boards you visit. Tell them that they are FREE and that they make you level much faster than other guides or questhelper.

2. When you try my guides, if you find any mistakes, leave a comment.

3. Post useful comments here. When people ask for advices and you know the answer, go for it and help them out, so I won’t have to do it myself ๐Ÿ˜›

4. And then of course, you can write a guide about an area of the game where you’re good. Check my Guide writing guide before you start, it should cover most points ๐Ÿ™‚

5. You can also translate guides into other languages, if you are fluent in another language. Check our Guides in Other Languages section to see what has already been translated.

7. Leave a tip to the author of these guides : Donate!

your guidesi know you haven’t gotten done with the northrend guides yet, but I would like to point out to you guys, james is systematic. He goes from one zone to the next doing all the quests. Thats a very good thing, because if you are impatient and want to be 80 (if you are not already by following his guides) you can just go to the next zone and do all the quests. Thank you james

XP/hour! Ive used ur lvling guides since late 2005 when i got my ovn account and while i was lvling my hunter i was very happy to see that even with alt tabbing i was very close to ur estimated XP/hour rate when i was lvling.
In my hones opinion it just shows how efficiant ur guide has been from the beginning, and tbh i have preached the wow-pro gospel like a mad man to ppl in all guilds ive been in asap they ask the usual “where do i go at this lvl” i cba to tell em anymore i just tell em if they wanna statr to lv propperly they should go to this page and start reading, and ofc the first i need to correct em in when they dont wanna pay for such crp, is that its all FREE.
This is by far one of the best sites for a new player to come to. I must say it realy stand under its name WOW-PRO…

Zul’DrakLike everyone else, I was eagerly waiting for the zul’drak guide. I love you guides because I HATE being inefficient and running back to the same place I just was because some other quest giver wants something there too (OK, I hate it when its the same quest giver too, but sequential quests can’t be helped, that’s just sadistic developers). I always knew it was a lot of work to write a guide, but I never comprehended it truely until I decided to try and make an add-on version for zul’drak. I have previously made tour=guides for limited quest circuits and stuff, so I had a clue what I was getting in to, but wow, this is a lot of work, Thanks for taking the time to do it.

Anyway, the point of this (besides saying thanks for your previous contributions) is to say… in researching zul’drak, I discovered that there is a quest from camp Onequah that is unavailable if you have “Into the Breach” from Dragonblight in your quest log or completed. The quest from camp Onequah, “Shifting Priorities”,is a better quest (IMHO) because it flies you to Light’s Breach (free) thus getting you the flight path without having to run. (the rewards are the same xp and coin). Maybe since if you followed the previous guide you will be at least 77 (I hit 80 in the middle of GH) that isn’t a consideration, but I thought it was notable.

Jame is working hard on theJame is working hard on the addon for now, but will be moving on to new WotLK guides after that. I don’t think he has a time estimate yet – basically the more help we get testing and improving the addon, the sooner Jame will be free to work on those guides ๐Ÿ™‚

Next guide – time line?Yo Jame,

I havnt been able to find here nor ur blog about further guides for the rest of Woltk contents – do u have any timelines for those? I used ur Woltk guides so far for 2 chars, one is 77 now and going to grizzy hills ๐Ÿ™‚ So id guess id ding 80 there – or if close then ill instance the rest, so i gain more gold from the 4-5 rest zones ๐Ÿ™‚ Just as i did with my first char, his 80 long ago, he dinged 80 in Zul Drak – even tho i lvl on my own there and in grizzy hills, due to ur guides wasnt there at that time. But i managed to handle Grizzy by my own and Zul drak too, im rather good at that ๐Ÿ™‚ As i acutally managed to get all quests (and the achivements) too – afaik at least. ๐Ÿ™‚ But im waiting for ur guides for the rest of the zones, which hopefully will come in some time. I would like them so i can earn the best amount (and fastest) of gold within those zones i have left on my chars. Always done it that way, also did that in TBC. Where i lvl my 60 to 70, so i had Netherstorm & Valley full of quests where i gained alot of gold from. ๐Ÿ™‚

Best guides made ever – really zane work u do here Jame.

    Hi,
    Jame already does a veryHi,
Jame already does a very very good job with the guides – maybe listing all the rewards and choices are a bit too much then ๐Ÿ™‚ Its absolutly perfected quest-circuiting which allows to level fast and very efficient. What concerns the rewards you asked for: I’d suggest to use an add-on which displays the values of the various items so you can decide if you take the stuff for your character (if it is an upgrade) or which is the itemvalue with the highest sell value.

  • img
    Jan 23, 2009 @ 6:10 am

At the very least you shouldAt the very least you should finish the zone you are in, at that point you can do either one. I personally recommend getting to the end of the Outland guide and going to Northrend then. You’ll probably get to 80 in Dragonblight then all of the quests afterward (5 whole zones) will give gold instead of XP in addition to the reward gold and items.

The quests in northrend don’t start going grey until lvl 77 and those are just in the starting areas

Don’t Wait for Jame’s Guide to ContinueI was going to wait until his Zul’drak quest because I didn’t want to mess anything up, because I had gone to Howling Fjord without his help and then when I started using his guide midway I was very confused. After wasting an entire day, I decided to start Zul’drak anyways and so I opened a notepad file and wrote down the names of the quests as I completed them. This way, I could track which quests I had already done and all I would have to do is go to “Edit -> Find” and look for the quests that I hadn’t yet completed. Fortunately though, I was able to complete all 100 quests in Zul’drak. I earned the achievement for the zone at the same time that I reached level 80.

(although it has to be said Northrend zones are so much easier to quest in then any of the others, each quest leads to the next).

Thank you very much for theThank you very much for the kind words, I’m really glad to hear I’ve made your wow experience better.

About leveling speed being lower for you than for me, you hit it right on the nail. I know my guides almost by heart so I save a lot of time while following my circuits.

However, with the recent conversion of my guides to an addon format, this should no longer be the case, and you should get about the same XP rates as me ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please continue using my guide and giving feedback, and spread the word, that’s all I ask ๐Ÿ˜‰

For He’s A Jolly Good FellowJame,

I’m not sure what possesses you to put so much time and effort into creating these wonderful guides for us to enjoy but I know I am forever indebted to you for making my WoW experience a fulfilling one. I’ve played other MMO’s in the past with RL friends and always quit before seeing any endgame content because of the frustration of hours played vs. rewards obtained.

I started playing WoW around Thanksgiving and I’m currently lvl 80 with the achievement for completing all of the Northrend dungeons on regular, and three away from finishing up the heroics! I’ve found a fun guild and we’re heading to our first 25 man Naxx run in a week or so and I’m getting exactly what I’ve always wanted from an MMO, and I’d have to say it’s all because of your hard work and generosity. You seem to take well to our appreciative comments, and I felt obliged to create an account here just so I could post my gratitude. It’s not surprising to me that you have a small army of community members helping to create and add to the amazing amount of knowledge already held in this site, and we all await your next installments with bated breath! (I was a bad guide follower and went to Northrend at 70, but mostly because Nagrand was huge and boring to me, but I hit 80 at the very beginning of Zul Drak, so all’s well that end’s well, eh?)

    I’m at 11 days 20 hours played… didn’t keep track of the moment I hit 80 though =(.

To my experience with the guide: Amazing leveling experience in general, far surpasses in speed and ease anything I’ve experienced before, and I would not dream of paying for something similar (or accusing you of theft from said products!). In Northrend I’ve never consistently exceeded 400k xp/hour, and that’s generally only with rested xp… I usually topped out around 350k xp/hour without it’s assistance. I’m not sure as to why this may be. I am a new player and the majority of hiccups in my leveling were most likely due to my general lack of knowledge surrounding game/quest mechanics (i.e. where is everything in each new town I encounter, etc.), but my xp rates still seem shabby compared to what you achieved on your OWN hunter toon, which is what I rolled as my first. I figured, “He wrote the guides, he’s probably REALLY efficient at following them and running the circuits,” but I just thought you might like to get that feedback.

As I think back, I also realized I’m a frequent short break taker when it comes to WoW, and I’d generally leave the game running for the 5 minutes I’d be doing something else, so perhaps that was a factor. In any case, really no complaints, just a bit of food for thought. My only suggestion wouldn’t be an actual “improvement” per say, as your guides do exactly what you intended them to do, which is level a character as fast as possible. I wish now, at 80, that I had picked some common pairing of professions (leather working and skinning, mining and blacksmithing, etc.) as I find myself going back and grinding professions now, when I really think they’re designed to have been played up with a character. Now you preface your guides by clearly stating that they don’t include said profession content, but a friendly reminder perhaps that professions are part of the game and may be a welcome distraction from quest grinding your brains out may not go amiss.

But really, bang up job. And I hope you acquire some benefactor or commissioner or something, because writing guides should really be your full time job.

    In Gratitude,
    Quillspin

P.S. – I also really identify with your appreciation of passable grammar… I mean come on people. Video games and punctuation are not mutually exclusive.

thankyou jame so much!just made my wow.pro account after having used jame’s guides for ages
so i started as a sad old slow levelling level 29 semi-twinked rogue as my friend was 70 and quite rich
then i got banned by my dad for overly playing too much wow, so after i think a year and a half i asked if i could have another chance with wow and he said yes, Great!
so then i got on my rogue and i couldn’t remember how to play much and stuff so i looked for levelling guides and i dont remember how, but i found jame’s guides.
so i think 2-3 months later my once level 29 rogue is now 70 and i have been recently been playing my death knight whos now 78
now i tell you all this cause my friend who was the 70 who twinked me is now 80 and im finally nearly caught upto him
but what am i waiting on, the zul’drak guide now im patient cause jame’s guides are easily the best and i love following them but i want to be 80 like the rest of my guild
who as of the end of the week are kicking any none 80’s so i really need the zul’drak guide to finish me off i’m to scared to level by my self after all this time

anyway thankyou for everything jame and i hope you might give me a date of your zul’drak guide hopefully before the end of the week or i’ll have to try the last 2 levels by my self, OH GOD!

anyway thankyou for everything youve done for me jame!

Santa Was Good to Me!!!I hate to brag, but my wife spoils me like no other.

My step-daughter and her husband gave me an autographed #9 Kasey Kahne Budweiser Dodge Charger 1/24th scale replica for Christmas. I’m a HUGE NASCAR fan and an even bigger Dodge fan so this was the bomb!!!

Fortunately, for those of you who are thinking WTF???? My wife did me one better and bought me an Acer 22″ wide LCD for one of my three PC’s in the basement. My dilemma is that none of my PC’s has a decent video card. My Dell Inspiron 9400 has a 256MB video card so the 22″ screen is now the second display on my laptop and is the main screen for WoW. I keep a Chrome browser window open to wow-pro so that I can keep up with what to do next and where to go, along with a Dreamweaver window open to track what quests each of my 10 toons have accepted and finished and another window with Excel to keep track of each of the 10 toons professions.

Just thought I’d do a little bragging and give a second vote for dual monitors….LOL

Hey Jame i have been a goodHey Jame i have been a good guide follower..

and now im lvl79 already.. damn it just 1 more level to 80. so what’s keeping me from leveling?

my answer is.. im waiting for ur Zul’Drak’s guide(Alliance).

come on faster come up with the guide. There’s alot of people waiting for your Next Guide. Personally I find your guide very useful. But what could be improved, is that u could add which quest rewards should we take to get additional gold. Since most people are also wanting to earn some extra gold thru selling quest rewards..

In the mean time.. i’ll just have to run instance to hit 80.. and i’ll be waiting for your next few guide to earn extra gold(compensation at 80) ๐Ÿ™‚

    Buck up..

Dual monitorsJame, if you use Windowed / Maximized like you suggested then on dual-monitors it’s really great because your 2nd monitor can have a browser open to the guide and the mouse cursor just smoothly moves from game to browser and back perfectly. No alt-tabbing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thx for the Guides + SuggestionFirst of all I wanted to thank you for this fantastic guides and the timeand effort you’ve put in making them.

I just thought of a suggestion, it doesn’t need to be immediatly, but I thought it would be nice if you put comments on how much playtime it did take for you and how much experience you had in the different steps of the guides, so we can follow better and see if something isn’t going right. I know it’s heavily gear and rested bonus dependant, but I still would like to see it.

Again ty and continue the good work ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve followed your guidesI’ve followed your guides ever since I created a Death Knight and I installed QH just to help myself out and found that it combined with your guide actually makes leveling even easier because I was able to memorize groups of quests I had to do together and then just quickly set those as priority it almost made it seem like I had an in game mod helping me level with your quests. Just thought I would throw that in there. ๐Ÿ˜€

Well, following my circuitsWell, following my circuits instead of questhelper’s automated circuits will certainly help.

That’s the main point of following my guide, it’s that the circuits are a LOT more efficient than questhelper’s, because I take into account all the quests in the zones and their follow ups, and then I make the most efficient circuits out of it.

Questhelper just tells you where the closest quest objectives are, based on what you have in your quest log. It doesn’t take into account follow ups and other quests you could get throughout the zone while on your way to another objective, etc.

So yep, if you use my guide, follow the circuits, it’s the biggest advantage my guide has over QH.

Hey JameI’ve been using your guide off an on for my latest 70 for a while now and i found out that using your guide to know what quests to grab and using quest helper to know the optimum circuit w/out alt tabbing in and out works well. I’d also like to say since i hit 71 ive only been around 300k xp/h what do you suggest could help me bring that up the extra 100k xp.

The result is you play full screen, but the alt-tabbing is instant!

    Playing and TabbingHi,

ALT-TAB is *only* slow if you play full-screen. WoW offers to have Full-Screen as a window, if you ALT-TAB then it’s blazing fast and you basically have WoW as your windows background. That is how I play with it. I get same FPS anyway.
I will get a secondary monitor soon just for kicks.

Honestly, I play with Lightheaded, Questhelper and TomTom right now. Rather then creating a new add-on I would like to see something like an optimized waypoint library for TomTom(or Cartographer if it’s more fitting). The QH auto-suggestions are often dumb as they do not include the follow-up quest knowledge. Longer can be shorter in the long run.

I am also rather casual and it’s a pity we don’t have anything for Grizlly Hills, as I am 78 already (went for full Tundra, Fjorn and Dragonblight for Loremaster) with only 7 or 8 instance runs.

    Great site!

    Thanks
    ice

    Leveling PlanHey Jame,

What is your leveling plan for the rest of Northerend going to be?

For example, currently we have (for Alliance):

    Borean Tundra (70 – 72) –> Howling Fjord (72 – 74) –> Dragonblight (74 – 75) –> Grizzly Hills (75 – 76) –> ?.

    What comes next?

Many things are slowing meMany things are slowing me donw:

I have to level my characters up to grizzly hills again
I have to take care of the site and answer comments, and also edit the mistakes of my other guides when users point them out
I also have work to do in RL! ^^

Anyway, I’m doing as fast as I can and I’ll announce release dates as soon as I can realistically estimate it ๐Ÿ™‚

WindowedThat’s how my wife have been playing since I first discovered your guides. We’ve both leveled Alliance to 70, and aside from skipping quests here and there (we hate collection quests, especially when they’re not part of a chain,) we played every moment of the game together and following your guides every step of the way.

Thanks for all your hard work, Jame, and keep it up for the betterment of mankind! (At least that part of it that plays WoW…)

Grizzly HillsIs it safe to assume that the delay of the Grizzly Hills guide is due to WOTLK being too time consuming for you? We all want to play the new content after all. I can wait a while longer since I`m still on the Horde Borean Tundra part.

I`ll just go to my DK when I reach the Grizzly Hills part so take your time. I`m just curious if there are any news with updated release dates?

Windowed ModeI have a better suggestion… just play in Windowed Mode but go right-click on your start menu and click properties, then check “keep on top of other windows”

That keeps your start bar in front of the game so you can still see the time, browse the net, etc. It doesn’t interfere with the game at all, your game is resized to be above the bar.

    Hope that helps,

I’ll make an addon versionI’ll make an addon version in the future.

In the meantime, if you don’t have a second monitor, you can play wow in windowed mode and set up your in-game window to almost full screen, just let a little bit of space on the side of the screen so that you can see the the browser window with the guide opened in it. And whenever you need to check on the guide, you simply click on that and it will instantly switch to it, no loading time as if you were playing wow in full screen and alt tabbing.

    Like on the screenshot below:

That’s how I play sometimes when I don’t feel like booting my second computer, and it’s really fine when you get used to it, feels like playing wow full screen without the alt-tab slowness.

Love your guides…is there going to be an ingame version, like zygor guides, that you’ll make available in the future or will that be more trouble than it’s worth?
