On this page you will find:

  • A very compact text version of my guide that you can use as a roadmap
  • A very detailed Video Format, with timecodes for every key step and chapters to skip the parts which you don’t feel like watching. So I recommend to give it a try and to subscribe to my YouTube channel if you want to get the latest info first.

This is a REAL 100% Walkthrough. Well over 1500+ hours of preparation are necessary for this guide to make sure not a single item was missed and to complete 100% of Final Fantasy XVI as efficiently as possible!

In this guide, I will of course show you how to unlock ALL FF16 Trophies / Achievements, but also:

  • Acquire ALL Items
  • Acquire ALL Weapons
  • Acquire ALL Armor
  • Acquire ALL Accessories
  • Complete all the side quests
  • Upgrade all Feats and Abilities to their maximum
  • Collect all Signboards
  • Collect all curiosities
  • Complete all the Hunts
  • Craft Gotterdammerung (Legendary Sword)
  • Visit all Areas on the World and Local Maps
  • Defeat every Boss and mini boss

But I will also provide many advice to become better at the game:

  • Basic Combat Mechanics and Tips
  • Advanced Combat Guides
  • Detailed Builds
  • Best way to clear the Final Fantasy Mode (which is needed to unlock the hardest trophy in FF16: Fantasy, Finally)

If you enjoy this format, please check my other 100% walkthroughs:

The walkthrough

This is the ultimate guide to complete 100% of Final Fantasy 16

This is more than just a Platinum Trophy guide, we’ll get everything.

  • All 50 Trophies including The Chronicler platinum trophy
  • All items, even the not important ones, every Potion will be looted! Every gil will be collected!
  • All Side Quests

Basically, we’ll farm everything, every Gil, material or consumable will be found and looted if you follow this guide. You’ll finish your first playthrough with plenty of materials to do anything you want in your New Game+ (Final Fantasy Mode Playthrough).

I’ve planned this guide to do everything in the most efficient order, so that we never hit difficulty walls and complete the full game with as little deaths as possible. Every upgrade that can help will be obtained at the right moment, you’ll be warned in advance of every ambush and trap, there will be an optimal strategy for each of the enemies and Bosses which require one.

  • If you’ve never played a Final Fantasy game before, I guarantee you will Platinum this game without any problems if you follow my guide.
  • If you’re a casual gamer or 70+ year old with bad reflexes, I guarantee you will Platinum this game too.
  • If you’re a veteran FF player, I guarantee you won’t regret following this guide, it will save you a lot of time and you’ll probably learn a few tricks and hidden game mechanics.

We’ll start the game with a few basic combat mechanics, get some early upgrades and progressively add more tools to our arsenal and explore some advanced combat tactics as well as new game mechanics which only exist in Final Fantasy 16.

Settings

CONTROLLER LAYOUT

Wireless Controller Layout: Type B

Dodging is extremely important in FF16, so having the evade button on Circle is a must have. It is the most accessible button at all times, and it’s what you should be used to if you played other action RPGs such as Dark Souls, God of War, etc.

Also, having the main attack buttons on R1 + R2 instead of Square + Triangle will be a great improvement when we’ll start to do Combos involving Charged Attacks. You’ll have a much better control with R1 and R2, trust me on that.

LANGUAGE SETTINGS

Speaker Names: ON

There are many different characters in FF16, you might get confused about who is talking sometimes. Displaying speaker names helps a lot with that.

GRAPHICS SETTINGS

Screen Brightness: 10

There are some pretty dark parts in FF16, from my experience, there are still some really dark corners even with Brightness set to 10. So it does help to see things better in many cases, and it doesn’t ever feel too bright, even when you’re outside in broad daylight.

Game Performance: Frame Rate

The game looks just as amazing and more fluid with this setting in my experience. And when there are cinematics, the game still automatically bumps the quality to the maximum.

CAMERA SETTINGS

Camera Sensitivity (Horizontal) : 3
Camera Sensitivity (Vertical) : 3

I just feel that the camera is turning very slowly with the default setting of 2. In combat, we want to be able to look around quickly to see what’s going on.

Everything else I left with the default setting.

The Guide’s format

This is a double format Guide. There is a full video walkthrough AND a very compact text walkthrough.

The video walkthrough will contain more detailed combat tips, so I suggest you check them out.

Each video will have a list of timecodes with all the important moments in the episodes:

  • Timecode for each Item obtained
  • Timecode for each Combat tip and boss strategy
  • Timecode for each Important info given
  • Timecode for each Trophy obtained

All cut scenes and NPC dialogues will be included, but if you want to skip them it will be quite easy to do so: each video will be spilt into chapters, with clear labels so you can skip the parts you don’t want to watch or would rather watch on your own.

The text version of my Final Fantasy 16 Walkthrough should also be quite useful, it is very compact, and whenever the direction or explanation isn’t detailed enough, you can always check the video to get a clearer direction.

FAQ

Q: Will I get all trophies, including the platinum, if I follow your guide?

A: Yes of course. But much more than that. You’ll get everything you can possibly get in one playthrough. All items, weapons, spells, etc. Everything.

Q: Do I have to follow your character build exactly ?

A: No. You can follow this guide and do your own build and you’ll be fine. However, this is a very optimized guide and I believe the builds I use are very optimized and powerful. Some strategies in the later part of the game are specific to my build, so you’ll have to find your own strategies if you don’t have the same Abilities / Eikonic / Gear loadout. However, FF16 is very flexible with respecing. You can reset all your Ability Points at any moment for free, so you can copy my build at any point if you’re struggling.

Q: Can I follow your guide if I’m on PC / PS / Xbox?

A: Not yet. This is a PlayStation exclusive for now, but there will be a PC release and my guide will be 100% compatible with the PC version. The achievements will be the same.

Q: I love your guides! How can I support your work?

A: There are many ways to help me become a full time guide writer:

  1. ✅Subscribe to the channel
  2. 👍Like and comment every video
  3. 📢Share this walkthrough to your communities / forums / friends
  4. ❇️Leave a tip: https://www.tipeeestream.com/james-guides/donation
  5. 👿Join our Discord to get the latest news and join an amazing community

Q: Can I use the Special Accessories, such as the Ring of Timely Focus for example?

A: Yes. I actually recommend using the Ring of Timely Focus and not the “Auto-Evade” one, because this allows you to do other things than evading: Parrying, Countering, etc.

EPISODE 142: COMPACT TEXT GUIDE FORMAT

Open tall double doors
BOSS FIGHT: Titan
  • Every phase matters for the No Damage medal of valor
  • Be patient, wait for Ring of Timely Evasion prompts to evade and counter, it’s the safest way to not get hit
BOSS FIGHT: Titan Phase 1 (No Damage)
Combat tips:
Phase 1-1
  • Wait for Dodge Prompts and do Precision Counter Shots
  • Geocrush is easy to Dodge
  • Voice of the Land too, just wait for the Dodge prompt
  • Remember this time we have Brimstone and Spitflare for extra damage and to bail us out of bad spots
  • At 60% HP Titan retreats and throws rocks at you
  • Dodge the Rocks until Cut Scene where you learn Brimstone and use it
Phase 1-2
  • Same fight, same moves
  • At 10% – Cinematic Evade > Cinematic Clash
CUTSCENE: Akashic Titan
BOSS FIGHT: Titan Lost (No Damage)
Phase 2-1
  • Keep mashing R2 to fireball the rocks. Hit Dodge if you get prompts.
  • Once you reach the tails, keep firing R2 to hit the falling rocks, but focus on Dodging the crystals on the ground.
  • Cinematic Dodge > Cinematic Clash
Phase 2-2
  • Watch the ground and get away from the yellowish areas
  • Also be ready to dodge the follow up crystals or shockwaves after each strike
  • After each strike, you can do damage with a full combo ending with Backdraft Finish, as we previously learned. R1 > R1 > R1 > R1 > R2 > R2
  • At 60% HP: Cinematic Dodge
Phase 2-3
  • Stone’s Throw: Wait for Dodge Prompt
  • Granite Rain: Watch the ground and move around to avoid falling rocks
  • At 50% HP: Cinematic Dodge
  • More of  the same
  • At 35% HP: Cinematic Clash > Cinematic Clash > Cinematic Clash
Phase 2-4
  • Shoot the incoming rocks as fast as you can. Only aim for the ones that have those white pulsing winds around them.
  • When no more rocks are coming your way, shoot the tail. With Charged R2s if possible.
  • Cinematic Clash
CUTSCENE: Die Damn You
BOSS FIGHT: Titan Phase 3 (No Damage)
  • In this last Phase, the safest approach is to wait for Dodge Prompts and do Precision Counter Shots
  • You can also do Charged Magic shots  in between attacks, but keep a close eye on titan and be ready to cancel the shot and Dodge if he attacks
  • You can also use Brimstone and Spitflare to do extra damage and speed up the process
  • The biggest risk to get hit is Earthshaker: stand in the middle and get ready to go either side and wait for the Dodge Prompt. You can also Wildfire to the side once you get used to the animation, but the safest approach is to just wait for the Dodge Prompt.
  • At 10% HP: Cinematic Dodge > Cinematic Strike > Cinematic Clash > Cinematic Dodge > Cinematic Clash
Spoils:
  • 2x Flawless Earthen Fury
  • Medal of Valor – Drake’s Head (Optional)
  • Medals of Valor obtained: 10/16

EPISODE 149: COMPACT TEXT GUIDE FORMAT

Foreword about No Damage Bahamut: it’s a really difficult one to accomplish, because all phases count and it’s a very long battle, with lengthy unskippable cutscenes, so this will test your patience for sure. Plus, there is some RNG luck involved, and sometimes you’ll just get hit no matter how careful and focused you are. So don’t expect to succeed on your first few tries. And also remember, these Medals of Valor are just there for bragging rights, you don’t have to do this at all!
Open the door – Cutscenes
EIKON BOSS FIGHT: Ifrit vs Bahamut
  • Cinematic Strike
  • Cinematic Dodge
Phase 1 Combat tips (Ifrit):
  • Safest moment to attack is after he does his Diving attack and dodging the follow up shockwave
  • 2x slashing beams: Precision Counter Shots
  • Aura Burst: get in close and wait for Dodge Prompt or use Brimstone for extra damage.
    • At some point Cutscene will occur where you learn Spitflare
  • Quintessence: Wildfire all the way to one side while shooting the orbs with R2. Then start running (not wildfire this time, normal running) to other side ready to Dodge the Flares.
  • Megaflare: Just run sideways and wait for Dodge Prompts
    • At 70% HP cutscene will occur, switch to Phoenix
Phase 2 Combat tips (Phoenix):
  • As Phoenix, at the start use mostly charged L2 for volleys while paying attention to what’s coming. Focus on Dodging.
  • Move in circles to dodge the straight beam he’ll sometimes cast
  • To Dodge Megaflare, move in large circles immediately and wait for Dodge Prompts, keep moving in circles.
    • Extra tip: you must make sharp turns whenever you reach one of the 4 corners of your screen, or you’ll veer too slowly and you might get hit.
  • Kill Bahamut’s orbs as priority. The small orbs die to a single charged L2.
  • Use Charged R2 for the Big Orbs  + a few quick R2s to finish off the remainder HP
  • At some point there will be a short Cutscene and he’ll cast Gigaflare
  • As he prepares Gigaflare: 2x Charged Volleys on all 6 Big Orbs, then single charged R2 on each Big Orb as quickly as you can. Watch out, he’ll also do one megaflare during this move. Be ready to circle around Bahamut.
  • Charged R2 is better for single target damage when you get a clean window to strike
  • Pro tip: you can charge R2 while charging and casting L2 volleys
  • After a while, cutscene occurs, back as Ifrit
Phase 3 Combat tips (Ifrit):
  • Use Spitflare and Brimstone to speed up this phase
  • Watch out for the extra hits on most moves.
  • Also be careful of the falling flares he does now after his Spinning Dive attack.
  • Teraflare : get behind Phoenix when he tells you to –> Cinematic Clash
  • At 10% HP, Cut Scene –> Cinematic Clash –> Cinematic Clash
Spoils:
  • 100x Sharp Fang
  • 5x Flawless Meteorite
1 Skippable Cutscene
EIKON BOSS FIGHT: Ifrit Risen vs Bahamut
Phase 1:
  • Cinematic Strike
  • Safest way to not take damage is to use Lightspeed to chase Bahamut whenever he creates some distance, and then circle around him to end up behind him. This will take care of most of the big attacks and you can land some melee combos while he’s performing those moves.
  • Aura Burst: just wait for the Dodge Prompt, you can get in close and Dodge towards Bahamut, then follow up with Melee attacks. You can also use Brimstone to counter this move for extra damage.
  • Supernova: wait for the Dodge Prompt
  • Gigaflare: Lightspeed in quickly and circle behind
  • Radiance:  Use Spitflare, it’s the safest way to deal with this move. So save Spitflare for Radiance, always.
  • Megaflare: Wildfire to one side to run away from the beams, wait for the Dodge Prompt
  • Beam Barrage: Wait for the Dodge Prompt
  • Celestial Foundry: quickly use (X) twice and then Dodge to circle behind Bahamut
  • At 60%HP, Cinematic Dodge
Phase 2:
  • Save Spitflare to interrupt Radiance
  • Save Brimstone for Teraflare, it needs to be interrupted fast. Stay in close and keep doing R1 attacks, while circling around Bahamut to avoid the beams, always ready to hit Dodge if prompted. Using Spitflare to speed up this part is tempting, but if he does Radiance after you’ll be sorry.
  • Check the video for more detailed instructions on how to avoid all attacks and do safe damage
  • Especially useful if you want to try to get the No Damage for the Medal of Valor.
  • At 10% HP, Cutscene –> Cinematic Clash
Rewards:
  • 1x Flawless Light Shard
  • 100x Wyrrite
  • 100x Magicked Ash
