Leveling and Questing Guides

Love this guideJames, just wanted to say how much I appreciate your guide. I am currently 3 levels over your guide (I started the guide at lvl 30 with no extra XP, fresh at 30)… I followed your guide completely, sometimes I just logged my character out, where I left off on the guide (so no double xp), and bam still 3 levels ahead of the guide. Don’t know how or why, but this guide works. If only converting it to Tour Guide was Easy I’d be set for life 😛 …

Oct 15, 2008 @ 20:18

HeyHello, in some posts Jame said that he was thinking to do that conversion, but He would lose the contribution that comes from the people visiting the website. I must say that a Tour Guide addon-style edition of this guide would be Superawesome, but Jame needs us for keeping the site alive.

correctionHey Jame’s first off I want to say great guide i am not even half way done with the 70-71 guide and I am already 71. Probably helped that I did a few instances.

The reason why I wanted to reply is that I wanted to inform you that in order to get the quest “Scouting the Sinkholes” you must complete the full Iggy quest line to access it. This may have already been brought to your attention but I didn’t see it in any reply’s. Once again thanks for the great guide.

A simple QuestionHi Jame,
Is there any chance on making your guid printer friendly again? I managed to print it off last time (befor new patch) by simply using the tab you had on screen.. But now I dont see it 🙁 Am I going blind? or just being a nub..

Love the guides, keep up the goood work,
and good luck to all in WOTLK 🙂

Questions.Hello Jame & Snowflake, I’d like to have some advices and hint about some questions.
The thing is, I’d like to make another char for WotLK following your guides and posting informative and , I think, useful feedback.
The problem is that I don’t know what faction choose for this “mission”, the class and then the server.
I have level 70s characters on both factions, on various servers. I like the variety, you know :P. I just can’t decide, expecially for the server. Here it comes the question, or better, the request of advice!
If you could write me a few lines and suggest me some things I would really appreciate.

p.s. I have wrote here because there isn’t a space for questions, but I think that’s the right place because the question is about the guides.

Bye 🙂

I don’t know what to say.I’m pretty sure you get this a lot, but I love all that these guides have done. I went from being a poor, lonely kid with pointy knives to the life of the party rogue with awesome daggers and lots of blood elf ladies.

No, in all seriousness, you’ve made things more than efficient, and I got from 60-70 faster than I got from 20-40 because of your guide (I started late).

Thank you, once again. Much love.

AwesomeI just had to register just to tell you that I’ve been a long time user of many different guides and yours rocks them all.

I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say thanks for all the hard work and dedication you put into them.

Fantastic job! As someone coming back to Warcraft after more than 2 years off (quit right before BC expansion) I’m looking forward to experiencing the new content through the pace your guide sets.

Exciting times indeed!

Borean tundra or howling fjordHey Jame, i was curious on your guide that ally should lvl in tundra and horde in fjord at 70, is there any reason for this?
Im ally and wanna start fjord at 70 and by reading blizz stuff it seems to work fine and then just skip tundra. Why did u pick both zones, and why start with tundra?
Think it be possible to do fjord first even as ally?

• img
Nov 14, 2008 @ 13:34

HelloHello, I remember a post by Jame saying that Howlin Fjord has better quest hubs for the Horde and Borean Tundra has better quests hubs for the Alliance. Then, for a better leveling efficence, Jame decided to do quest circuits by changin the areas. That’s pretty clever, isn’t it? In this way you’ll level very good just by clearing starting areas, and you will ding 80 very soon :).

Death Knight: Life after 61I am currently going thru the Death Knight 55-61 guide (and loving it) and going thru your site I don’t see anything that is DK specific for Outland. Is there a DK Outland guide or do we just follow the herd?

Hiya Jame.

I found yourHiya Jame.

I found your site on a Google search while looking for Levelling Guides and I so glad I did. I stopped playing WOW back in January 08 and only re-installed it last week.

Looking through your guides has got me excited about playing again. In fact I may even start a new character just go through your guide.

Emmensely well written and laid out. Keep up the excellent work.

Amazing.Hey Jame.

I found your guide some time ago looking for a good leveling guide that could take me all the way to 70 without grinding. I was pleasently surprised with what I came across, your guides are amazing!

I’ve been using them for all my toons and with the help of other people’s guides like The Guide to the Barrens I out level my friends easily.

I am a casual gamer and never play more than 4 hours a day and your guides help me catch up to my hardcore gamer friends.

Thanks a bunch!

Is it a good idea to skip zones?Hi Jame,

I’ve followed your guides as far as I could, then branched out on my own with Questhelper.

I’ve completed Grizzly Hills and I’m halfway through Zul’Drak – and about to ding 79. Some of the quests in Z’D are green to me now (although most are still yellow).

Getting the max xp/hour is my goal, so would you suggest I skip straight to Storm Peaks or Ice Crown, and come back to finish Z’D and Azjol-Nerub for gold and achievements once I’m 80? Or shall I stick with the borderline green/yellow quests since the mobs are easier to kill?

PS If you’re ever in London I’ll buy you a pint as a thank you for the great guides 😉

A mod ideaHey Jame, love your guides. I use them constantly along with my kids and I have also posted links on our guild forums for the rest of the guildies to use as well and all that use them love them.
I also use a mod DGPS off of curse gaming in conjunction to your mods. I can very easily put in the coords of up to 5 locations and then run the quests in the guide that way and not worry about watching my map coord icon and just follow the arrows. It works great for me. Just thought I would offer up that suggestion.
Thanks again sir and happy travels. 😉

I suppose it works exactlyI suppose it works exactly like TomTom, which is easy to find on most addon sites.

• img
Déc 13, 2008 @ 17:23

Found it! The name of theFound it! The name of the addon is exactly Darecys GPS 😉 I made a quick test with your horde northrend guide and it makes leveling a lot easier. Just put in the coords for the long-runs and go! I can’t wait for the addon version 😀

• img
Déc 13, 2008 @ 19:14

somewhat like that but withsomewhat like that but with TomTom, you have to go thru slash commands to enter waypoints.
With DGPS there is a grid on your screen, that I like for example, tab to guide, highlight location name, tab back to game, highlight text box for location 1, hit control V, then enter X coord, Y coord and even Z coord if it is listed, rinse and repeat for all quests and, or quest giver locations.
To me the bonus for this mod is that if running your guide in order, then getting a group together out of quest in guide order, it is very easily entered right on screen and one check mark of location box changes arrow to location you wish to go next.
I believe with TomTom, you have to toggle thru waypoints to get correct arrow marker on screen.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Another Addon to make Life Easier 🙂 Try Carbonite, i find that and the guide fantastic and so simple (especially for me) 🙂 and they both work well together

• img
Déc 13, 2008 @ 16:27

ask and you shall receive.
Actually no, tomtom, is where you click a coord already stated in a log from what I remember, with gps, you can manually enter name of mob, item, location and manually enter coords, of up to 5 events. Then check mark the box on the right of the individual coord and the arrow points the way.

Big Happy SmilesJust wanted to say that while following your guide with my DK (Horde), it took me 3 hours to get from 58-61 in the Plaguelands, another 4 hours and I was level 65 (and still in Hellfire Peninsula). 3 hours later I left Zangarmarsh at level 67 and another 2.5 hours and I was done with Terokkar and at level 68. Unholy DK has an insane pace and I´ve never leveled this quickly before. However, I changed the DK spec with one point which I spent in Corpse Explosion (which you left out). I found out that the exploding corpses was a great dps addition in AOE grinding and shouldn’t be ignored.

When it comes to my warlock who was 70 at the time WOTLK hit, I used your guide up to the current Grizzly Hills part (while almost constantly looking for instance groups meanwhile) and slightly before I was done with Grizzly Hills I had hit 80 and is now enjoying the end game while waiting for your upcoming parts. Apart from many others who comments, I`m in no rush for those guides since I´m done with the leveling part. Do your best and finish them with your own pace.

I also found out that combining QuestHelper with your guide works wonders because I more rarely need to tab out to look up exact coordinates for quests. Instead I tab to your guide, find out which quest I´m at and then check the map for the mark. QuestHelper doesn’t change how I follow your guides, it just speed things up a whole lot.

I’ve got a similar questionI just dinged 80 on my main last night, and now I’m looking to bring up my alts. I’ve got a 45 Alliance Mage and I want to plug into Jame’s guide to speed up my leveling. It looks like the 41-50 guide starts out in Dustwallow, which I avoided on this toon after clearing it on my main. What would be the easiest way to jump into the path of the guide? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Marshall WindsorThe quest “[54]Marshall Windsor” from Marshal Maxwell (and possibly the whole quest chain starting with “Dragonkin Menace”) at the Alliance Outpost, Burning Steppes, is no longer available. The following is a comment found on Wowhead:

“This quest is no longer in the game due to the fact that there will be no requirement for Onyxia. Patch 3.0.2”.

Would be good if others can confirm this.

I love you Jame!– I just made an account here so I could thank you for all your hard work making these guides! Also I thought I’d throw in an idea I had for your Storm Peaks guide:
– I dinged 80 in Zul’Drak, and with QH i finished all the quests in that area, and decided not to do anymore quests until all your guides are complete, so that I can finish the Northrend Loremaster achievements as easy as possible.
– However, I felt the need to complete the quest chain for Sons of Hodir reputations to friendly, and I’m a little worried that it will set me back a little when following your Storm Peaks guide when ot comes out.
With that in mind, I was wondering perhaps if those quests should be emphasized by having a green text-box surrounding them (or something like that).
– Many people (including myself, obviously)are saving zones for post-80 quests, and I’m assuming that I wasn’t the only one of us that bothered to finish this particular chain.
– This would probably make it easier to either do this chain seperately, or to skip it for those of us that are saving the zone, but who have also finished these quests!;)

– Please don’t see this as a request or demand in any way. Just an idea.
Your work has already helped so many wowheads that I don’t think that anyone is in a position that will justify asking you any extra favors. Ignore this idea if it would mean extra (mehh….) work.

Love from Norway 😉

The addon – some comments on Zul DrakHey Jaime,

Simply put, I LOVE the addon. Started a new char just to use it and I love it. I was checking the parts on my main (80 paladin) and I reserved Zul Drak to wait your guide to make money at 80 (quest money and sell the rewards).

I was amazed to find a part on Zul Drak in the addon when it’s not on the website. I’ve done 45% of the guide so far and I gather roughly 200g per hour so it’s going great.

I thought you might need some feed back, here are a few glithes I encountered.

– The whole questline involving Stefan Vadu (the one with Drakuru), the waypoints for Vadu are often misplaced, we see 3 waypoints for him, revealing the positions he gets to during the questline. You might want to check that.

– For the quests ”Kickin Nass and taking Manes’ and ‘Invitiation of sorts’, there are 2 waypoints that are wrongly placed.

– For the quest involving the bombing of spider nests (forgot the name), the waypoint is misplaced).

I’ll keep on reporting these few bugs as I encounter them. Thanks for the amazing amount of work

* I followed the addon* I followed the addon version*

Yeah I died once and got lost for about a min or two but nothing that significant. I guess I just thought it was the zone because everything is so spread out even though options of transportation are there. I thought it was just those time consuming quests like the The falcon one along with the ship bombing quest that would take longer than other quests but maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Fév 18, 2009 @ 5:46

I just startedI just recently started your guides and was just wondering if rested xp would screw up the process. Thanks and you did an awesome job with these guides!

• img
Fév 18, 2009 @ 8:34

Definitely not. The guidesDefinitely not. The guides are designed to be good enough without rested. With rested, you will probably be ahead of the guide – which is a GOOD thing! As long as you aren’t killing gray mobs, just keep with the guide even if you get ahead – doing green quests is actually fine, and you get them done so much faster so there’s really no reason to skip ahead.

Anyway the point is: rested XP is good, these guides are just designed so that someone who is leveling very fast and has no rested XP can still use them.

Addon versionI was really bogged down with Wow and was not enjoying playing anymore. A friend of mine put me onto Jame’s Leveling guide and I have been powering along and really started to enjoy playing again. It must have taken a huge amount of time and effort to set this up and I really appreciate the effort. Thanks Jame.

You avoided me for running around like a chicken without a head.. doing the same circles again and again and again.. feeling stupid and loosing the touch… and I’m telling everyone I know about yr guides. (have been playing since oct 2006.. ;))

Now I was looking for the post where you have the list of next releases, but cant find them right now :S
Just wanted to suggest you hussle them around and release first the guides you haven’t posted yet.. the latest Northrend ones I mean, before you do the reviews of the old ones and the old add-on ones.

I’ve found a mate who has been there and will help me get the last level.. but it would be nice to do the rounds and get the achievements in ‘your’ way.. (and not my chicken way :P)

My thanks alsoI just wanted to chime in and say that I’ve been playing WoW since the beta, but my main alt is only level 45 due to lack of time (I’m a working mom) and a lot of time wasted wandering around instead of efficiently leveling. I had also pretty much given up on WoW.

But since I started using your guides, I’ve had a lot more fun, and leveled a lot more quickly. I really appreciate the detail and the tips (and the addon).

Slightly behind addon leveling guide.I am loving this ingame addon, it is perfect and I have leveled very fast…but I have been sent to pick up a quest in SW from alter boy Thomas in the cathedral and I am not able to pick it up as I’m under level required. Obviously required level is 28 and I am 68% through level 27.

What should I do?

• img
Mar 2, 2009 @ 16:51

Hmmm maybe you missedHmmm maybe you missed something because this normally should not happen. If not, you could just take a grinding session till level 28 or look at the paper version of the guide, see when you have to complete the quest and just come back later and take it then.

Hi Jame, these are greatHi Jame, these are great guides. I’ve been playing since summer 2006, and i found your guides somewhere about a year and a half later, and they helped me level a few alts faster then I could have ever thought. My friend thought he could beat me to 70 one time, but I won so he had to buy me a mongoose which was part of the deal. One question, you said something like you’ll upgrade your guides as you put them in addon form. Will they also be upgraded in the paper form? I’m wondering because I prefer the paper form, just because I like reading ahead. I also like them better because I think they are more useful in some parts, like where you say do two things at the same time, or give specific instructions. Will the written version be obsolete after your finished?
Besides that, great work on the addon, even though I’d rather use the paper form I tried out the addon and it worked great. Keep up the great guide writing!

Jame has always been prettyJame has always been pretty committed to the original version of his guides, so I don’t think you have anything to worry about 😉 The addon will however contain class quests and such, which is a nice bonus feature that Jame will probably not put in the paper guide because it would clutter things up.

Beginning Guide and AddonHey Jame,
I’m new to using the whole guide thing, but I’ve noticed that the Guide for Elwyn and the beginning is almost impossible to complete near level 8 as a Mage or Priest.

I was wondering if I am ble to make a Priest and Mage guide for all beginning of races for level 1-12…So it is easier for new players to level as a caster.

Death Knight (Alliance) Talent tree
Hi there,

I just found your Death Knight Leveling Guide which is GREAT! Thank you! I noticed that, with the new patch, the Unholy tree is different now and I’m not sure how to re-apply my talent points. For example, the first talent point was to be applied to “morbidity” but now, with the new patch, “morbidity” requires 5 talent points already in Unholy before you can apply one to “morbidity”. Can you please update the talent tree advise in your guide so it applies to the new patch?

Also, with “pestilence” no longer doing damage – what are your suggestions for when and if applying that talent?

Thanks so much for the great service you do for us WOWers.

• img
Avr 16, 2009 @ 4:02

I have two suggestions forI have two suggestions for talent trees over here I suggest using the Unholy one though.
1.Blood Build
2.Unholy Build

And as for pestilence use that, then use blood boil to cause damage, and use it when taking on groups of mobs, if you have the unholy build use Unholy Blight as well.

Horde/Ally guideI downloaded everything i needed and its working but one thing is weird. I’m in game and open the guide to select a guide and theres like 15-20 James Guides I got like 4-6 that says 31-41 but then next to the name it says ( 31-32) and next one says 32-33 but it still says James Guide 31-41. Does this mean its still 31-41 but i only stay there for 31-32? If that IS so, how come the screen shot of james in game guide is different? He has 4-6 James x-x Guide. Mine has like 15? Why is this? And i downloaded everything off this site. Can anyone help me figure out why all these circuits are broke up like this and not orginized like james screen shot on how to install the guide? Ty.

• img
Avr 16, 2009 @ 3:21

I’m assuming the screenshotI’m assuming the screenshot is just old. The guides you describe are how it’s supposed to be. Jame’s guide had to be broken into smaller sections so that it wouldn’t take forever to load and so that it could be organized by zone. It also makes it much easier to jump in part-way through.

Hope this helps.

• img
Avr 16, 2009 @ 5:44

YesThank you, that did help I was confused. So even though its broke up like that Ex. 31-41 and it has like 4-5 places your supposed to bounce around, so this is also correct? So if it says 31-41 James Guide BadLands (44-45) so i go through at 44 and stay till 45 then go else where? Lol, sorry that i’m bugging. Thank you.

Avr 16, 2009 @ 8:26

It’s no bother ThoseIt’s no bother 😉

Those levels are *recommended* levels. Basically, if you are jumping into the guide, find one in your level range where you have not done quests yet and follow it. If you are continuing from following the paper guide, then just start wherever you left off.

Even if you get a bit ahead of the guide, this is really okay. Just stay with the guide, Tour Guide will automatically take you to the next section once you complete one. Only skip sections if you start doing gray quests or killing gray mobs (or if you really really hate a zone!).

• img
Avr 20, 2009 @ 7:17

Stonetalon Mountains GuideOkay, so I’ve been using the guides for awhile now, and let me just say that I absolutely love them. They have helped a great deal and have made leveling so much easier. 🙂 However, I have noticed an error in the Stonetalon leveling guide in the addon. Don’t know if this is a TomTom/Tour Guide issue, or if this is something with the leveling guide itself, but when you get to the point that directs you to Ratchet, the marker (and arrow) lead you into Stonetalon Mountains, the exact opposite direction of where Ratchet actually is.

The coordinates are spot on, leaving the arrow/map marker the only issue with this specific step that I have noticed.

Just thought I’d let ya know. 🙂

• img
Avr 20, 2009 @ 7:52

That section of the guide isThat section of the guide is currently being revised, and that error will be fixed (it’s due to missing zone tags). This may occur in other parts of the 20-30 guide section as well, so be aware.

Leveling GuideHi I am a first time poster LONG time user of these guides, first of all I Would like to say that these guides work incredibly well and I would like to applaud the creators of the guides for the time consuming hard work and dedication that they have put into these guides.

I had a question though, I started the leveling guide at level 60 with three bars of rest however I am now on the level 65 part of the guide and I am halfway to level 69 and I just got done killing the giant spiders. And I have only done Ramparts once, and BF once, I also three manned setthek halls last night. Should i Finish out the guide and hit Northrend or just go to Northrend at level 70? also could it be that my shoulders give me an added 10% Experience.

Also I would like to say that last weekend i was able to get 3 levels using your guide Thanks alot!

• img
Avr 30, 2009 @ 23:34

This comes up a lot. TheThis comes up a lot. The reason you are so far ahead of the guide is that Blizz changed that leveling range, making it significantly easier to level 60-70 in Outland.

As to when to go to Northrend, it’s really up to you. Definitely stay in Outland until level 70. At that point, if you aren’t tired of the content, I would just stay in Outland until the quests/mobs before gray to you or until you finish the guide. If you are sick of Outland, though, don’t torture yourself with it – just head to Northrend 🙂 Keep in mind that the longer you stay in Outland, the more Northrend quests you’ll have available after you hit 80 to go towards money. Also staying in Outland helps if you want to do those questing achievements.

• img
Avr 30, 2009 @ 23:35

Avr 30, 2009 @ 23:54

:DThanks for the replys I think im going to continue the Outland guide and finish up all the quests here and do the Northrend quests and get as much gold as i can Jeez those mounts are expensive well just to buy the expert flying training and guides for gold lol jk

• img
Avr 30, 2009 @ 23:35

Keep questing in OutlandKeep questing in Outland until the quests turn gray. That way you’ll turn 80 pretty early in Northrend, leaving so many quests for juicy gold! You really won’t regret it. 😉

the addonHi there, i would like to know how on earth you reset the guides iv completed before. Iv done a little research and found that Shift+Click on the guild is ment to do it, i tried that and the ‘100%’ goes away untill i click on it again and its back and i cant load it lol. Also, all the guides i did complete e.g. grizzly hills. Have now disappeared from the guides list altogether. Would someone please help me out i want to get back to using this great addon again! Thanks in advance.

Yes it is loaded correctly,Yes it is loaded correctly, iv taken a screenshot to show you, now as you can see there are only Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra available and the stupid 100% just wont go away even if i Shift+Click it. Like i said it only happens on that guide (Howling Fjord).

• img
Mai 7, 2009 @ 22:56

AHA! Thank you so much forAHA! Thank you so much for the screenshot, you have confirmed something I have been theorizing for quite a while now.

You see, some people have had this problem with the Howling Fjord guide and others, like me, have not.

The problem is with Tour Guide’s default guide, NOT our WoW-Pro guide. I’m sorry to say it, but you’ve been using the wrong guides all along.

Check your addon screen and make sure WoW-Pro’s guides are enabled. WoW-Pro’s guides ALL say “WoW-Pro” and the author’s name (in this case Jame) in their titles, NEVER just the zone name. The current guides are “out of date” so you need to enable out of date addons for them to work.

Hope this helps, and again thanks so much for the screenshot, the mystery is now solved!

Oh my …. I went to try and load up this leveling guide on my 80 hunter, to do the Sholazar Basin quest line. When I try to find said guide on my list, it doesn’t go above Howling Fjord/Borean Tundra for levels 70-72. Even the “optional” guides do not go over to Sholazar…. 🙁

My alliance guides? Not a problem…. any info to help me on this problem is greatly appreciated.

Out of date add ons are loaded too…. 😕

• img
Juil 19, 2009 @ 19:55

I am assuming you are usingI am assuming you are using the default Tour Guide guides instead of our guides.

The Horde tour guide guides go up to Grizzly Hills on the newest version.

Make sure the guides you are using say “WoWPro” in the title – if they aren’t, they aren’t ours. Try downloading the new version as well.

Regardless, there are no guides currently available from WoWPro for Sholazar.

• img
Juil 20, 2009 @ 20:45

Oh my…. 😕 The thing is… it was working fine up until a couple nights ago. I used this same add on guide for my now level 80 hunter, level 80 priest, 80 druid. It was working one moment, and then my UI freaked out. I ended up having to “reload” my ui, and that’s when it appeared that Sholazar, Storm Peaks and Icecrown disappeared. Yes, I have used the “wow-pro” guides all the way up to IC on all toons. It wasn’t until IC did I have to use “a different” type of guide.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled yalls tour guide now 5x … and it hasn’t changed. The alliance one is perfect, it has guides up to IC. (optional ones too)
I understand that directly you guys don’t have an actual SB guide, however … there WAS optional guides that DID DL with the tour guide before. How could it just…up and disappear? :O I KNOW I USED a guide through yalls site FOR SB for my horde toonS. Its what I used to get to the quests for the oracles there! I never got those quests UNTIL I got yalls guide add on?

• img
Juil 20, 2009 @ 20:58

Hmmm, that just soundsHmmm, that just sounds weird. I have no idea why it would have been working fine and then vanish. It just really sounds like you might have been using the default tour guide guides – they were previously listed at the top of the guide list, above our guides, but are now located at the bottom. Try scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the list where the default guides are.

I am sorry about this, but I do know for a fact that we have no leveling guides from Jame for those zones. As far as I know, our addon has only one guide past Grizzly Hills, and that is for Icecrown and is only on the Alliance side. I’m really sorry that this isn’t working out for you, but I have never seen those guides so I have no idea how to recover them for you.

It’s possible that a user on this site did write optional guides for those zones and uploaded them as a separate file, but it definitely wasn’t part of the main download package from this site.

Can anyone else shine some light on this issue? I really wish I could help but I’m just not sure what guides you were originally using, and I definitely don’t know why they aren’t working now 🙁

JamieHello Jamie & Friends,

After playing WOW for quite some time I finally registred myself at WOW-Pro.
Hello to Everyone.

Jamie, if I may say this….
I hope you are doing fine now in RL.
I think that others may feel the same way…that you might handle the situation at your home.
I wish you the best of all luck.

To your friends, taking care of your guides and addon….
Yeah…those guides…..I used it and I like it.
Being at the start of Zuldrak and becoming Level 78. is fun.

About your addon!
I have a question!
Can this addon of yours work together with Carbonite?
I am a hugh fan of it.
But don’t take the risk to use your addon before I know there will be no trouble to suspect.

And for the rest….I hope you can keep up this great jobs of yours.

With Kind Regards,

(I hope you can forgive my terrible English Grammar)

Your English was fine,Your English was fine, thanks for registering and posting such a nice comment!

I believe the addon *should* work with Carbonite, just make sure Carbonite’s waypoint arrow is disabled – otherwise they might conflict. I don’t use Carbonite so I’m not sure exactly how to do this, but perhaps someone who is familiar with it can help.

Bug or not Bug that is the questionHi,
First up awesome guides, this my second time using them first on the addon.
I have noticed that on alot of the quests when the addon updates to say that you have aquired the quest it is automatically checking the do quest now symbol (cross swords) and the turn in quest indicator as well.

This has been happening on the STV and Hillsbrand / Arathi highlands section of the guide (32 – 34) I think.

I am not doing the quests in strict order, so didnt know if this matters or not. But didnt want to raise loads of bugs if it this.

• img
Août 10, 2009 @ 8:03

Is this the Horde orIs this the Horde or Alliance guide? I seem to remember something like this occurring in the Horde guide, though I thought I had worked most of those bugs out.

• img
Août 17, 2009 @ 21:37

I am having the same problemI am having the same problem with the quest “Stranglethorn fevor”. This is happening on the horde version of “Stranglethorn Vale”

I did the quest and the crossed swords part did not go away, so i tried checking it off, and it just stays checked on that quest. Looks like I’m going to have to use the website for this particular part of the guide.

Side note: I disabled the addon and then re-enabled it as I was writting this and that seemed to fix the problem. Even so I figured I should still post this and let you know about the error.

Horde version.

Also on theHorde version.

Also on the horde version, while I was doing the Feralas guide I noticed a quest had changed (not sure what patch). The quest “A Strange Request” apparently requires you to take the shrunken head to a guy in Feralas now.

Guide for Daily QuestI dont know if this exist already, if it does I couldnt find one, but it would be nice to have a guide with the location of all daily quest broken down by Alliance, Horde, Faction, Neutral, etc. I know there can be variable quest for things like Fishing and Cooking but just having the location for those quest givers would be great. If it were a stand alone addon that would be even better!

I made another post on thisI made another post on this already in a different forums, but it can’t hurt to have it as many places as possible. I contacted Blizzard and they immediately asked if I had used curse client. I did. Apparently, they are getting a lot of calls about curse client and wowmatrix. They suggested I install add-ons manually and get rid of curse client.

They also mentioned that they are prevented from ‘posting’ this, but encourage spreading the word.

Thanks to your guides, WOW has gone from a dust collecter on my book shelf to being my favorite past-time 😉

Déc 8, 2009 @ 7:46

I just want to say thank you.I’ve leveled my first character to 80 in just over 10 days /played time using Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide. This includes activities such as battlegrounds, profession training, and playing the auction house. If I just straight used the guide and did nothing else I’m sure I would have reached 80 in 8 or less days. This is amazing considering the claims that the pay guides make.

So I just want to thank everyone who’s helped to create the guides on this site. These guides are invaluable and, in my opinion, a ‘must have’ for WoW players. THANK YOU!!!

Thanks, it’s lovely.. but just one suggestion.Great guide, keep up the good work.
But if possible, could you add a check in the addon to see if you actually _have_ the quest.

Before you find yourself trying to do the ! part on some distant location but don’t have the ? part (anymore).

(even tho i was trying to follow the guide i still managed to get my quest log full and apparently abandoned the wrong one. 2 guides later i was doing a quest .. but ..didn’t have the actual quest in log. Good thing i noticed in time the drop rate more than sucked while doing something and found it out in time. but it still was some unneeded traveling to fix it again.)

Alliance or Horde? I wouldAlliance or Horde? I would recommend just skipping the quests you’ve already done, and queuing up in the dungeon finder to help you catch up if this causes you to fall behind.

Mar 15, 2010 @ 22:22

I am on AllianceI just decided that I would simply finish leveling my hunter the hard way, but when i can get heirlooms ill make a warrior and follow your guide to 80. I definitly want an 80 warrior for cataclysm… seeing as worgen warrior is going to be a crazy tank! By the way, is using heirlooms with your guides ok? And what class should I be for a tank? I will obviously be switching to worgen anyway but i would prefer best tanking until then. Thanks Jame!

Mar 15, 2010 @ 22:28

One recommendation – WhenOne recommendation – When you go to a new zone with your hunter, you can very easily jump into the next guide, if you want to.

Heirlooms can certainly be used with our guides! You may find yourself getting ahead of the guide. If you start doing gray quests, just skip ahead to a later zone. The guide is just that – a *GUIDE* not a rule, as many people seem to think. Feel free to skip parts! Watch out for quest chains, though, especially in the last part of the 50-60 section. Hopefully we’ll have some awesome features in our new addon that will make it easier to skip around!

For your tank… I’m assuming you meant which race should you be, not which class, since you seem to want to be a warrior! Well, if you were Horde side I’d recommend Tauren for the health buff. But honestly, I *never* pick a race based on the racial features – only based on the flavor. If you are going Alliance side, I am quite partial to dwarf warriors myself 😉 but pick whatever seems most fun to you!

Fastest leveling everJust leveled a Pally to 80 in 7 days 0 hours and 58 minutes using James’ add-on guide. I did have some help from bind on account items for 20% extra XP. But still… WOW!!! You a fool not to use the guide

• img

quests are low levelI cant help noticing that leveling takes place in zones lower level than your toon. For example, lvl 72-74 guide is in Howling Fjord which is 68-72. Is there a reason for this?

• img
Mai 10, 2010 @ 3:39

Jame has often set some ofJame has often set some of his leveling in zones that are a little lower level than player’s current level. First of all, the quests are easier and you will complete them more quickly. Secondly, the more of the low level quests you do, the more high level quests will be available at level 80 to get some gold.

However if you like more of a challenge or don’t care about the end game gold, go ahead and skip to the next zone.

Keep in mind that the guides were written before heirlooms were available and before the dungeon finder made it easy to gear up, so the general difficulty level is a lot lower now than it once was.

• img
Mai 10, 2010 @ 7:03

I was actually thinkingI was actually thinking about the amount of exp you get – lower lvl quests and mobs give less exp then regular. I dont know though whether the amount of exp for regular quests compensates for the time spent. If my ultimate goal is to level as fast as possible, and I don’t care for gold that quests might give at 80, should I skip a zone or not?

• img
Mai 10, 2010 @ 8:15

I think this partiallyI think this partially depends on how comfortable you are with your class and how quickly you complete quests. If you feel like you can breaze through the content that is even with your level, then by all means skip the lower level stuff.

A note – lower level quests and mobs don’t give any less XP than they would have if you had been the proper level for them. The do give less overall XP than a higher level mob would, of course, but it’s not further decreased due to them being green in difficulty. That’s something a lot of people don’t understand.

Skipping Zones? Mhhh..maybeI tell you my experience. I’m leveling a priest that it’s 60 now and since I have also done some instances (and I have full heirloom set with 20% experience gain bonuses) and been very ahead of the guide, I skipped some zones since they were grey quest for me, well it was a real mess. Missing quests because I didn’t to the previous to enable the following. Going in a zone then realizing that I couldn’t do that quest because I didn’t do the starting quest chain, very unconmfortable. In short what I suggest you it’s not to skip areas, or make really sure that you do all the quests required (at least) and check carefully the previous zone you’ll going to skip to make sure that you won’t have problems with struggling finding where to start the quest chain to sync with the guide section.
This is also the reason why when I read in WoW forums of people skipping guide sections, due to being too low level I’m not agree and start ranting about it: it’ll be a mess syncronizing with the guide and I’ve seen many people complaining about missing quests or accusing the guide for being innacurate, but not realizing that was their fault since they’re skipping and missing a lot of quest chain requirement. Of course this apply if you’re following a guide, believe me, it’s very frustrating when you remain stuck in a guide section due to the reasons I’ve mentioned, more than doing grey quests (but they allow to be perfectly in sync with the guide) and goiing here and there to get the pre-requisite quests.

Just my 2 cents, wait..I’m italian..Just my 2 eurocents (better ;))

Well, I think the originalWell, I think the original poster was mentioning Northrend, where there aren’t too many quest chains spanning zones like there is in the old world.

Additionally, we’re hoping to add something in the new addon which allows it to check if you have done certain quests and then simply not instruct you to do any steps that require those quests to be completed.

A suggestionThe last guide is for Zul’Drak. Are there any more plans for quest guides for all the rest of the regions? I hope to get Loremaster for Northrend, and maybe the rest, before Cataclysm comes out. That would be really helpful. Whatever, thanks to everyone for all the hard work that went into these guides!

• img
Mai 17, 2010 @ 7:53

I don’t beleive Jame isI don’t beleive Jame is planning any more Northrend guides before Cataclysm comes out, he’s just been too busy preparing for the new expansion and managing his SC2 site. We have had some awesome and extremely helpful users create their own guides. Some are addon-only, and some are faction-specific.

If you are going for loremaster, I recommend Everyquest (an addon). However, honestly Northrend zones are *EXTREMELY* easy to get the loremaster achievements for. If you can do old world and Outland, you should have absolutely zero trouble with the Northrend regions.

Dungeon levelling guide proposalHello,
I’ve been following you guys for a while and using Jame’s guide for TourGuide.
You know…if it wasn’t for you, Jame, I would not enjoy WoW so much.

Nowadays I’m levelling a new alt but I’m not using any levelling addon anymore: new blizzard improvements in quest tracking, my own experience (Jame enhanced 🙂 ), increased experience from mobs and quests (due to boa items and blizzard policy) and accessible levelling dungeons (with new dungeon finder tool) made it hard to follw any guide.
Still, should I decide to level only by questing I’d rather use your guide.

I have an idea for a new levelling guide into dungeons.
It should, first of all, have a list of quests to do in each dungeon, with quest givers, pre-quests, objective description, level range.

And then any other interesting information such as rewards, lore, dungeon tips or glitches…

Making a TourGuide guide to go get all quests in the least possible travels would be very cool too, but I can’t help on that I fear.
Instead, I started a collection of quests, to have something concrete in my hands while proposing this guide, but I stopped because of Cataclism.
Do you think dungeon quests will change?

And overall: is there anyone interested in this guide?

• img
Mai 22, 2010 @ 20:51

We are no longer using TourWe are no longer using Tour Guide and have our own addon in development. One of the modules we want to create for the new addon is a dungeon guide. We plan to incorporate pretty much all of the tips you’ve discussed here.

Unfortunately, the questing portion of the new addon is taking priority so we haven’t yet begun development on the dungeon guide portion. We want to offer a bit more specific support than Tour Guide did. Still, we plan to use the guide file system Tour Guide did as a base, so if you’d like to start something based on that, feel free 🙂

For more information about the new addon, see

Dungeon Leveling Guide ProposalI’m very, very interested in a guide that takes into the following: 1) Dungeon finder; and 2) Heirloom items. I’ve never helped with a guide before, but would be open to help in collaborating on the project. With the leveling guides I’ve used (primarily this one) I, too, find that I level at a rate that throws the pace of the guide way off (not its fault at all, I can’t say enough good stuff about the guide) to the point that I get frustrated and just queue up for dungeons.

As a footnote, I am currently leveling a warrior tank, so the wait time for a dungeon at most times (lvl 48 now) is literally 2-10 seconds, maximum. For the dps toons I’m leveling, I use the dungeon finder as an added boost, but it still throws off the pace.

Again, I am more than happy to help on a project to develop such a guide, especially doing research, as I enjoy that sort of thing.

So, in short…I’m very interested in your guide. DO IT!

• img
Mai 30, 2010 @ 22:40

Incorporating an acceleratedIncorporating an accelerated leveling pace is *definitely* something we want to incorporate in to the new addon 🙂 My hope is to allow an option for you to set yourself to one or two higher speeds, where the guide will skip some steps along the way. The steps will have a special tag that lets the addon know to skip them if the person has that setting enabled.

My hope is that the addon will also be aware of your toon’s level and will know to hurry you off to a higher level questing area if you are over-leveled for the place you are.

These are still in the early idea phase, and the core addon features need to be put together first. But they are good things to think about 🙂

Keep the ideas coming! 😀

Nov 15, 2010 @ 4:44

Interesting pointI find that I can knock back almost half a level in heirloom chest and shoulders every instance. That is +20% experience. I basically have all the heirlooms except the ring. I run quests while waiting for the LFG tool to pull me into a run.

Battlefields also really can do a lot for your experience, and some will run Gnome reputation for you as well (the lowest/hardest Alliance rep to grind it seems).

I’m certain that when Cataclysm comes out, that will change.

But most of the prep for instances/dungeons isn’t that useful, compared to just running two of them rather than one with time spent prepping.

As for my current 80, the moment Cataclysm launches, I’m cooking a huge number of fish feasts with my cooking hat on to level my cooking …

When Cataclysm is released,When Cataclysm is released, I will be moving all old 1-60 leveling guides to the archive section. The only exception will be the blood elf and draenei guides, as those are mostly unchanged.

This will include Jame’s leveling guides. I will at that time combine Jame’s Outland and Northrend guides into the main leveling guide sections for Horde and Alliance, respectively.

I will also be moving the “Cataclysm” leveling guides into the main leveling guide section at that time, since they will just be the normal guides then.

If you have any questions about this process, feel free to leave a comment.

chanches to curent low levelingI have just begun to level a new horde char (orc hunter) and am using the addon to level. Want to know what I have to expect once cata is out. Can I still use current leveling guides or do I have to switch to new ones.

I suppose the questions is: is blizzard using there phasing technologies to get only high chars in chanced zones or will it be the same for all?

Oct 23, 2010 @ 16:36

The current quests andThe current quests and leveling experience for levels 1-60 will be GONE. Nadda, out of here, no more. No characters on any official servers, no matter what their level, will be able to access them. The ONLY ones that will remain relatively unchanged are the Blood Elves and Draenei 1-20 areas.

Basically, the paper guides will still be available in the archive section, but the addon guides will be completely changed. The idea is that on December 7th, when Cataclysm happens, our addon will have an update and the old guides will be gone, with the new ones replacing them.

Before anyone asks – yes there are archived copies of old addon versions both on our github repository and on several of the addon sites we use, and these will continue to be available after Cataclysm comes out, so you’ll be able to get those old files if you really want them. I’m not going to bother making these more easily accessible unless you give me a very good reason. “I’m on a private server and I need them since we didn’t upgrade to Cataclysm” is a BAD reason – and it’s illegal.

Sorry for hijacking your perfectly reasonable question with a rant, STrek 😉 I just know that’s the kind of thing some people might ask.

Finding GuidesWoW-Pro,

I have really been amazed at how incredibe your guides have been through the years. I have used them and referred many people to them, toughting how amazing they are.

I noticed recently that the website has had a complete makeover. I am now having trouble finding any of the guides. Are they no longer free for anyone to see? Is there some donation or contribution I can make to once again gain access to the guides. I’d really like to make use of the Cataclism guide when the expansion comes out.

Most respectfully,

Hello WollmanD. We willHello WollmanD.

We will never, EVER charge for our leveling guides! The site is still experiencing growing pains. One of those pains is the loss of ALL of our categorization, including the nice list of leveling guides which was once on this page. I’m in the process of setting up the categories again, and we’ll be doing our best to get everything back in place.

Until then, try using the new search functions to locate the guide you need. Sorry for the inconvenience!

how to use.First the very basics. Do you have it installed? correctly? do you have it enabled? (in game on the addons menu)  If so, you should see a empty guide panel that says “no guide loaded”You can right click in the title bar and bring up the addon’s menu. (Due to a bliz bug, it won’t go directly to the correct addon, but instead you have to scroll thru the addon list until you find wow-pro.) You can also install an addon called Bliz Bugs Suck and then the context menu’s will work again (for all addons not just wow-pro)

Anyway, however you choose to get to the addon’s menu, choose guide list and then pick the zone you want to quest in. There are some zones that will autoselect based on quests in your log, but not all guides or all quests are set up that way. (If you don’t want to switch to a guide that auto-pops up choose “not now” or “never”) As you can see in the screenshot, there are various categories of guides. Most max level content (such as Argus) is found in Achievements rather than leveling.

After you chose a guide, you can customize the settings you prefer in the “guide display” menu.

The guide should advance to the point where you are in the zone’s progression. There are a few steps that can-not autocomplete and they should (hopefully) have comments to the effect of — you need to manually check this step off. — For some reason you have to click these steps off 2-3 times to work. (the first time will move the tom-tom arrow, the 2nd time unchecks it and the 3rd click advances the guide).

I hope this gets you started, if you have any more questions, feel free to message me or send message in game.
