Leveling and Questing Guides

how to use.First the very basics. Do you have it installed? correctly? do you have it enabled? (in game on the addons menu)  If so, you should see a empty guide panel that says “no guide loaded”You can right click in the title bar and bring up the addon’s menu. (Due to a bliz bug, it won’t go directly to the correct addon, but instead you have to scroll thru the addon list until you find wow-pro.) You can also install an addon called Bliz Bugs Suck and then the context menu’s will work again (for all addons not just wow-pro)

Anyway, however you choose to get to the addon’s menu, choose guide list and then pick the zone you want to quest in. There are some zones that will autoselect based on quests in your log, but not all guides or all quests are set up that way. (If you don’t want to switch to a guide that auto-pops up choose “not now” or “never”) As you can see in the screenshot, there are various categories of guides. Most max level content (such as Argus) is found in Achievements rather than leveling.

After you chose a guide, you can customize the settings you prefer in the “guide display” menu.

The guide should advance to the point where you are in the zone’s progression. There are a few steps that can-not autocomplete and they should (hopefully) have comments to the effect of — you need to manually check this step off. — For some reason you have to click these steps off 2-3 times to work. (the first time will move the tom-tom arrow, the 2nd time unchecks it and the 3rd click advances the guide).

I hope this gets you started, if you have any more questions, feel free to message me or send message in game.

I love this guide! To the devs of WoWPro, thank you!I love this addon. I recently started playing WoW again and bought the game again. I leveled my Blood Elf Paladin from 1-85 in about 5 1/2 days, doing a lot of PvP and alt-tabbing and going afk.I leveled a blood elf warrior from 1-85 in 3 days 6 hours using this guide (and some heirlooms, but oh well…)!

Hello WollmanD. We willHello WollmanD.

We will never, EVER charge for our leveling guides! The site is still experiencing growing pains. One of those pains is the loss of ALL of our categorization, including the nice list of leveling guides which was once on this page. I’m in the process of setting up the categories again, and we’ll be doing our best to get everything back in place.

Until then, try using the new search functions to locate the guide you need. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Finding GuidesWoW-Pro,

I have really been amazed at how incredibe your guides have been through the years. I have used them and referred many people to them, toughting how amazing they are.

I noticed recently that the website has had a complete makeover. I am now having trouble finding any of the guides. Are they no longer free for anyone to see? Is there some donation or contribution I can make to once again gain access to the guides. I’d really like to make use of the Cataclism guide when the expansion comes out.

Most respectfully,

Interesting pointI find that I can knock back almost half a level in heirloom chest and shoulders every instance. That is +20% experience. I basically have all the heirlooms except the ring. I run quests while waiting for the LFG tool to pull me into a run.

Battlefields also really can do a lot for your experience, and some will run Gnome reputation for you as well (the lowest/hardest Alliance rep to grind it seems).

I’m certain that when Cataclysm comes out, that will change.

But most of the prep for instances/dungeons isn’t that useful, compared to just running two of them rather than one with time spent prepping.

As for my current 80, the moment Cataclysm launches, I’m cooking a huge number of fish feasts with my cooking hat on to level my cooking …

The current quests andThe current quests and leveling experience for levels 1-60 will be GONE. Nadda, out of here, no more. No characters on any official servers, no matter what their level, will be able to access them. The ONLY ones that will remain relatively unchanged are the Blood Elves and Draenei 1-20 areas.

Basically, the paper guides will still be available in the archive section, but the addon guides will be completely changed. The idea is that on December 7th, when Cataclysm happens, our addon will have an update and the old guides will be gone, with the new ones replacing them.

Before anyone asks – yes there are archived copies of old addon versions both on our github repository and on several of the addon sites we use, and these will continue to be available after Cataclysm comes out, so you’ll be able to get those old files if you really want them. I’m not going to bother making these more easily accessible unless you give me a very good reason. “I’m on a private server and I need them since we didn’t upgrade to Cataclysm” is a BAD reason – and it’s illegal.

Sorry for hijacking your perfectly reasonable question with a rant, STrek 😉 I just know that’s the kind of thing some people might ask.

chanches to curent low levelingI have just begun to level a new horde char (orc hunter) and am using the addon to level. Want to know what I have to expect once cata is out. Can I still use current leveling guides or do I have to switch to new ones.

I suppose the questions is: is blizzard using there phasing technologies to get only high chars in chanced zones or will it be the same for all?

When Cataclysm is released,When Cataclysm is released, I will be moving all old 1-60 leveling guides to the archive section. The only exception will be the blood elf and draenei guides, as those are mostly unchanged.

This will include Jame’s leveling guides. I will at that time combine Jame’s Outland and Northrend guides into the main leveling guide sections for Horde and Alliance, respectively.

I will also be moving the “Cataclysm” leveling guides into the main leveling guide section at that time, since they will just be the normal guides then.

If you have any questions about this process, feel free to leave a comment.

Incorporating an acceleratedIncorporating an accelerated leveling pace is *definitely* something we want to incorporate in to the new addon 🙂 My hope is to allow an option for you to set yourself to one or two higher speeds, where the guide will skip some steps along the way. The steps will have a special tag that lets the addon know to skip them if the person has that setting enabled.

My hope is that the addon will also be aware of your toon’s level and will know to hurry you off to a higher level questing area if you are over-leveled for the place you are.

These are still in the early idea phase, and the core addon features need to be put together first. But they are good things to think about 🙂

Keep the ideas coming! 😀

Dungeon Leveling Guide ProposalI’m very, very interested in a guide that takes into the following: 1) Dungeon finder; and 2) Heirloom items. I’ve never helped with a guide before, but would be open to help in collaborating on the project. With the leveling guides I’ve used (primarily this one) I, too, find that I level at a rate that throws the pace of the guide way off (not its fault at all, I can’t say enough good stuff about the guide) to the point that I get frustrated and just queue up for dungeons.

As a footnote, I am currently leveling a warrior tank, so the wait time for a dungeon at most times (lvl 48 now) is literally 2-10 seconds, maximum. For the dps toons I’m leveling, I use the dungeon finder as an added boost, but it still throws off the pace.

Again, I am more than happy to help on a project to develop such a guide, especially doing research, as I enjoy that sort of thing.

So, in short…I’m very interested in your guide. DO IT!

We are no longer using TourWe are no longer using Tour Guide and have our own addon in development. One of the modules we want to create for the new addon is a dungeon guide. We plan to incorporate pretty much all of the tips you’ve discussed here.

Unfortunately, the questing portion of the new addon is taking priority so we haven’t yet begun development on the dungeon guide portion. We want to offer a bit more specific support than Tour Guide did. Still, we plan to use the guide file system Tour Guide did as a base, so if you’d like to start something based on that, feel free 🙂

For more information about the new addon, see

Dungeon levelling guide proposalHello,
I’ve been following you guys for a while and using Jame’s guide for TourGuide.
You know…if it wasn’t for you, Jame, I would not enjoy WoW so much.

Nowadays I’m levelling a new alt but I’m not using any levelling addon anymore: new blizzard improvements in quest tracking, my own experience (Jame enhanced 🙂 ), increased experience from mobs and quests (due to boa items and blizzard policy) and accessible levelling dungeons (with new dungeon finder tool) made it hard to follw any guide.
Still, should I decide to level only by questing I’d rather use your guide.

I have an idea for a new levelling guide into dungeons.
It should, first of all, have a list of quests to do in each dungeon, with quest givers, pre-quests, objective description, level range.

And then any other interesting information such as rewards, lore, dungeon tips or glitches…

Making a TourGuide guide to go get all quests in the least possible travels would be very cool too, but I can’t help on that I fear.
Instead, I started a collection of quests, to have something concrete in my hands while proposing this guide, but I stopped because of Cataclism.
Do you think dungeon quests will change?

And overall: is there anyone interested in this guide?

I don’t beleive Jame isI don’t beleive Jame is planning any more Northrend guides before Cataclysm comes out, he’s just been too busy preparing for the new expansion and managing his SC2 site. We have had some awesome and extremely helpful users create their own guides. Some are addon-only, and some are faction-specific.

If you are going for loremaster, I recommend Everyquest (an addon). However, honestly Northrend zones are *EXTREMELY* easy to get the loremaster achievements for. If you can do old world and Outland, you should have absolutely zero trouble with the Northrend regions.

A suggestionThe last guide is for Zul’Drak. Are there any more plans for quest guides for all the rest of the regions? I hope to get Loremaster for Northrend, and maybe the rest, before Cataclysm comes out. That would be really helpful. Whatever, thanks to everyone for all the hard work that went into these guides!

Well, I think the originalWell, I think the original poster was mentioning Northrend, where there aren’t too many quest chains spanning zones like there is in the old world.

Additionally, we’re hoping to add something in the new addon which allows it to check if you have done certain quests and then simply not instruct you to do any steps that require those quests to be completed.

Skipping Zones? Mhhh..maybeI tell you my experience. I’m leveling a priest that it’s 60 now and since I have also done some instances (and I have full heirloom set with 20% experience gain bonuses) and been very ahead of the guide, I skipped some zones since they were grey quest for me, well it was a real mess. Missing quests because I didn’t to the previous to enable the following. Going in a zone then realizing that I couldn’t do that quest because I didn’t do the starting quest chain, very unconmfortable. In short what I suggest you it’s not to skip areas, or make really sure that you do all the quests required (at least) and check carefully the previous zone you’ll going to skip to make sure that you won’t have problems with struggling finding where to start the quest chain to sync with the guide section.
This is also the reason why when I read in WoW forums of people skipping guide sections, due to being too low level I’m not agree and start ranting about it: it’ll be a mess syncronizing with the guide and I’ve seen many people complaining about missing quests or accusing the guide for being innacurate, but not realizing that was their fault since they’re skipping and missing a lot of quest chain requirement. Of course this apply if you’re following a guide, believe me, it’s very frustrating when you remain stuck in a guide section due to the reasons I’ve mentioned, more than doing grey quests (but they allow to be perfectly in sync with the guide) and goiing here and there to get the pre-requisite quests.

Just my 2 cents, wait..I’m italian..Just my 2 eurocents (better ;))

I think this partiallyI think this partially depends on how comfortable you are with your class and how quickly you complete quests. If you feel like you can breaze through the content that is even with your level, then by all means skip the lower level stuff.

A note – lower level quests and mobs don’t give any less XP than they would have if you had been the proper level for them. The do give less overall XP than a higher level mob would, of course, but it’s not further decreased due to them being green in difficulty. That’s something a lot of people don’t understand.
