Revamp of Jame’s Leveling Guides: Release dates

img
Nov
22

As mentioned in this news post, all of Jame’s Leveling Guides will be revamped, to adapt to the changes that were introduced with patch v2.3.

Since many have been asking, I’m going to list approximate release dates as I’m in charge of testing the guides and adapting them. I’m currently running through the horde guides with a Blood Elf character and making leveling guides for blood elves at the same time, because they were lacking.

• November 22: Release of Guide to Ghostlands (12-21) (Done: Guide can be found here)
• November 28: Revamp of Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide (21-30) (Done: Guide can be found here (url didn’t change))
• December 10: Revamp of Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide (31-40) (Done: Guide can be found here)
• December 29/30 : Revamp of Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide (41-50) (Done: Guide can be found here)
• January 19 : Revamp of Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide (51-60) (Done: Guide can be found here)
• Will finish editing maps for Boston’s Guide tomorrow so a 20-30 guide is already available (sorry about the delay) (Done: Boston should upload the images very soon, you can find his guide here)
• Draenei starting guide is all written up, just need to make maps, should be done 11 February. (Done: guide can be found here)
• 25 February: Finishing testing of Boston’s 20-30 guide and posting comments & suggestions (Done)
• March 10/11: Revamp of Jame’s Alliance Leveling Maps aren’t redone yet, should be done tomorrow or the day after. (Done: Guide can be found here)
• End of March (possibly earlier): Revamp of Jame’s Alliance Leveling Guide Chapter II.

Please remember that these are very rough estimations. I’ll try to meet the deadlines whenever possible but never expect guides to appear on the exact day stated, delays of 1-2 days are more than probable, hence please be patient, we are really doing our best.

The more help we get the faster we can release the updated versions, so if you can/want to help out, shoot me a Private Message.

No need to revamp if you askNo need to revamp if you ask me. I’m doing the guide right now and it work’s wonderfull the grinding sessions are a lot smaller than they were before 2.3 and anything else works totally fine!

revamp is 2 in need lolSmall revamps are needed dude, because with 2.3 the min lev to accept some quests has changed as well as some npc locations, for example Fiora Longears is now in Darkshore on the docks instead of in menethril at the inn, and the quest highperch venom’s min lev has changed to 31 therefore the very first quest in the alliance lev 30-40 guide is wrong not only in location but also level this changes alot in the first circuit. Sidenote, James Alliance guides are the very best source for fast leveling, I have used them on 4 chars and used theses guides solely and the speed of leveling is amazing, Keep up the good work, and cant wait for the new updates, just wish you were doing alliance first lol 🙂

Alliance should be first =DYeah, I saw Jame’s guides just as i hit lvl 30 and i tought WOW!! I gotta follow that guide!
But then I was like hey? Didn’t they just release the 2.3 patch?
So I looked twice a day every day for a revamp and now you are doing horde first =(

But for great guides like these, I’m willing to wait a while ^_^.
I started the 30-40 alliance guide non-revamped anyway, and I just skipped the first quest, because I couldn’t find Fiona Longears either =D

old guides still workyou can still use the old guides and they work quite well. if you go through them strait up you’ll end up not haveing any grinding sessions and probably still out level the guide. I’m useing it now and what I’m doing is folowing the guide and ignoreing any grind till you reach X (usaly beyond the cutoff anyway) I’m ignoreing most of the instance runs and I’m also cuting out several quests that are basicly grinds in disguise (badlands regent run for example) I’m still about a level ahead of the guide at this point but I figure I can always cut out one or two quests that I dont feel like doing later to make up for it.

Not saying I wouldnt like the new and improved optomized guide but this works for now. this is my 4th toon to follow the guide in one way shape or form. Thanks Jame I love your work.

i agree , there is no needi agree , there is no need to revamp , the changes in 2.3 just eliminate the need for grinding in jame’s guide , which means that you can progress as usual , except u can omit the grinding parts now cause its no longer needed

Nov 25, 2007 @ 12:26

You’re wrongThe exp in 2.3 comes in faster and faster the higher you level. If you follow the current leveling guides your levels will start getting too high for the quests in the late 20s/early 30s or so. You’ll be doing quests lower level than you could, or in other words, getting much less exp than you could be by doing higher level quests.

Leveling guides need to be updated because of that to maximize efficiency and speed.

Using the old guides right nowGot a lvl 51 Mage ally side and 2.3 came out when I was 48. I have had to drop certain quests along the way to keep things eficent 3 times now. The old guides won’t work too well if all you can do is follow directions. But if you know enough to drop the quests furthest out of the way and with no follow-up and rewards you can still use them. I, however am still quite looking forward to the updated versions. Anyone who was playing through this game the first time would have no clue and end up spinning their wheels doing lvl 48 quests when they are already lvl 54.

agreeI never followed the guides point for point, instancing whenever I could, and was still always a good level or two above the guide. Now I’m cutting out entire sections I don’t want to do, like the Desolace quests, and a few quests here and there. Most quests that required groups or were very difficult have been nerfed to the point of oblivion. One example is the harpies in Thousand needles. Summoning Grenka instead of bringing 3 waves of 3 harpies each, now just brings her. I was severely disappointed at how easy some of this game has gotten.

There are many many thingsThere are many many things that need revamped in the guide, such as flight points that have actually been in the game for a long time now (Ratchet and Un’Goro), NPC’s that have been moved, newer FPs like Rebel Camp and Emerald Sanctuary, and of course the 3 levels or so worth of new quests added to Dustwallow Marsh.

FinallyI have been waiting to start using your guides for a long time.. so now that i find out you’re revamping, I’m very excited. 🙂
I’m just wondering, though, If i was to start a Blood Elf Warlock (which I just did) would the guides be written in a space of time that I didnt have to wait for a while before the next is finished? Just Wondering, and great guides from what I’ve read.

Blood Elf starting guide asBlood Elf starting guide as well as Ghostland 12-21 Guide are done. If you are going to start a Blood Elf anyway it would be awesome if you could try them out and leave feedback.

About the other horde guides: I think they’ll all be revamped till December 10. Which is about the time where Jame starts to write the 61-70 guides for Horde. Not sure if the 61-70 guides are going to be ready before you get there, but all the other guides probably will.

Little update on this: thereLittle update on this: there is more adapting and redoing to do than I thought, especially for blood elves that didn’t do quests in the Barrens before… I progressed a lot and a good chunk is done but I’ll need a day or two more time. It will be worth it though as ALL the grinding will be removed from the guide.

About old guides: yes they’ll still be available and we’ll link to them inside the guides.

Great guides as always Jame.Great guides as always Jame. Can I make one small request though 🙂

For those of us eagerly awaiting the 65-70 guide (alliance, but they should both be about the same), can you provide us with some quick benchmarks for each zone. I think you are trying to get two levels per zone.

60-62 Hellfire
62-64 Zangar
64-66 Terokkar
66-68 Nagrand
68-70 Blade’s Edge

This way you have Netherstorm and Shadowmoon for pure money making purposes. Is this close to the way your pacing the final 65-70 guide?

Thanks again for your guides.

66-67 Nagrand
67-69 Blade’s Edge
69-70 Netherstorm

I will have to include a few circuits in Netherstorm to reach level 70. Keep in mind I am writing my guide with zero rested bonus, so it was a little too hard to reach level 70 without touching Netherstorm and SMV at all. 🙂

I really can’t, I’mI really can’t, I’m overwhelmed with work currently and it’s more and more difficult to find time for the revamping. On top we received a complaint about the already revamped guide which was apparently completely made up, but we still had to double check if it was the case. So that threw us back as well… All in all really stressful at the moment.

Looking good for the secondLooking good for the second chapter of the horde guide. It’s completely done with new quest circuits in Dustwallow Marsh and Hammerfall (the Stromgarde quests that were elite before). Both big grinding sessions at the start and the end of the guide (harpies and rock elementals) have been removed and replaced by quests.

The only thing left to do is the text formatting and maps which should be done tomorrow in time for release.

notes on important quests?Little late with suggestion i suspect, but would it be possible to make some kind of note if a quest is important, ei. leads to a chain of quests or leads to an instance or similar.

Reason i ask, is that i been doing the alliance guide with a hunter, and the excelerated xp gain + going outside the guide a few times (getting hunter pet skills, solving quests not in guide for hunter gear) – has placed me at lvl58½ when i should be lvl 52. (LFG for sunken temple sucks in the new LFG tool).

So i have a hard time figuring out which quests i can skip to get back on track.

Horde first?Hehe… I want an alliance part released:P discrimination all the way!!! Currently testing out how much the xp/hour rate has changed with new updates. I hear its about 5k-10k difference, with the new quests added. Basically each lvl gets 1-3 new quests that are on the way. So should eliminate grinding sessions almost entirely.

Alliance Lvl 39-40, Dustwallow contents fits perfectly. Thanks heaps for the awesome guide! I’ve leveled 2 toons (Priest and Paladin) according to this guide and on my third now (Druid) in an attempt to make all 4 healing classes 🙂

As I was leveling my toon from 39-41 (Lvl41+97% as we speek) I’ve found out that the new Dustwallow Marsh contents fits perfectly into the level 40 part of “Jame’s Alliance Leveling Guide”. The quests were partially yellow but almost all green, nevertheless the new xp scaling enables us to efficiently acquire xp through that level range.

I’ve finished the level 39 part of the guide and decided to fly to Theramore for the first aid quest. Since the level 40 part seemed to be a bit hard core grinding, I’ve decided to take quests around Theramore. I landed in Theramore Isle at lvl 41 + 0% and now am 41 + 97% (no rest bonus) which therefore be a perfect leveling place at level 40. Also, the escort quest reward was 1 Elixir of Fortitude that might help the “shopping list” on chapter II.

Thanks again for the great guide 🙂

I’d like to thank you very much for sharing your techniques and ideas on leveling with everybody else in the World of Warcraft community.

They work just fine, if anything *too* well.I’ve been using these guides mostly since the 2.3 patch. All the information is good. Occasionally Jame will say something is hard or too hard that turns out not to be because they’ve nerfed it. It’s worth taking a look at mobs the guide says are hard to see if they still are. Also, you will level *much* faster than the guide suggests. You won’t need any grinding sessions, and you can skip instances or zones you don’t like and some quests with low drop rates and still keep up with the guide.

Just check before you drop a boring quest that it isn’t part of an important chain. If you get so far ahead that your quests are turning grey, you can just skip a section. I skipped 75% of STV because of PvP issues and I’m still ahead of the guide.

I’m sure it will be better and faster once the guide is revamped to reflect the changes, but it’s perfectly usable right now.

I strongly advise you toI strongly advise you to finish the few quests you have, just skip grey quests if you encounter any. Being ahead in level when you go to Outland is awesome, you’ll be able to skip any grinding session, and you’ll end up level 70 before the end of my guide, which means you can then do quests at level 70 to get loads of gold.

The alliance 30-60 guide still works very well. Im currently using it to level another character and basically you can skip all the grinding sessions all the way and still be just ahead of the guide. Keep up the good work!

Thanks :)Hey Jame, I’d like to thank you for writing these levelling guides, as It has made WoW a much more pleasurable experience for me.

However, is there any way you can incoporate more instances in to you future levelling guides, and perhaps for those who do not want to do them there are optional quest curcuits? It’s not too much of a bother, It’s just i don’t want to get to 60 on my priest and not have a clue how to heal, and instances are generally fun and provide a gear upgrade.

Anyways, despite that minor concern, your guides are simply superb, and once again, thanks 🙂

Estimated time 1 – 70Hiya, I’m planning on levelling a Draenei (Shaman) via the WoW-Pro guides:
1 – 12: Draenei Guide
12 – 20: Sven’s Guide
20 – 30: Boston’s Guide
30 – 70: Jame’s Guides

What would be a good estimate on the played time? (no professions and only rested xp from logging out till the next day)

J

• img
Mar 27, 2008 @ 9:52

HmmWell, rested bonus is definitely going to give you a major boost in XP gained from mobs, but I’ve never played a shaman before and I don’t know how fast a shaman usually levels. But if you follow Jame’s leveling guides, I’d say somewhere around 7 or 8 days /played.

A change in tactics ;-)So, I’ve changed the plan a bit 😉

Goal is to have a 70 Alliance of every class.

1) all to lvl 12
2) then full rested per 2 levels (so get one to 14 then rest and next char)

I think overall it’ll take longer to get there, but with the rested bonus the played per char should greatly diminish (all classes also prevents the boredom of rushing a single class to 70 😉 )

J

Avr 4, 2008 @ 11:10

Well, if you simply can’tWell, if you simply can’t wait to level up your characters, why don’t you do it yourselves? You should know by now Jame’s tactic: go into a new zone, gather all quests you can find and then actually read the quest message to know what you have to kill, where you have to go, etc. And, no, I don’t believe you don’t know how to do that.

Following a leveling guide all the way to 70 can be a bad thing, because after that you will be just half a noob, and 1/2 noobs don’t get too far in the end-game world. Take advantage of these ‘waiting periods’ and try to do something on your own.

Really, not trying to sound harsh at all… <.<

DisagreeI have to say that I disagree with what you’re saying there. You’re basically saying that following a leveling guide makes you half a noob. But why is that? Following a guide still makes you play your own character and therefore get to know about it for 100% if not more… What makes you a noob then?

What you’re talking about is a levelingservice where you let your char be played to 70 and therefor you’ve got no experience in playing the class at all when you’re level 70.

That’s a big difference from a leveling guide like Jame’s. That’s just all about efficiency and speed –one of the fastest ways to get level 70.

• img
Avr 11, 2008 @ 20:35

What I meant is thatWhat I meant is that following a guide all the way to 70 means you only are as good as what you have experienced during the leveling process.

That means that if you followed Jame’s guide you will have no idea what kind of gear to get, how to do quests by yourself, and most importantly – no instancing and/or PvP experience. And if you do have instancing/PvP experience, it means you didn’t follow the guide exactly, which proves my point.

Unless, of course, you already have a ton of 70s, in which case I don’t understand why you need a leveling guide anymore.

If we level like that thenIf we level like that then there’s no purpose to the guides might as well not write them. What we want is the most efficient way to level and that’s what the guides provide. This is like saying you don’t directions to get from new york to california because you know you just have to keep going west and eventually you’ll get there. The point of the directions is so you don’t get lost or make mistakes along the way. We pay for our time so we want to optimize it.

But Spamming f5 on the page to get the release of the guide could be better spent Learning how to PVP your toon, or rolling an alt or Mastering the Auction house so when you do hit 70 you can have enuf to buy ur epic flyer. The game doesn’t require directions to level. It has them built into it. Is there an “Optimum Leveling circuit from 1-70” I’m sure there are PLENTY Are some quests useless and there only for flavor? or something to do when you’re bored? YES. I know what you’re saying. I have several toons that i’m going to use to test the guide, to Help Jame out because I really do like the guides. However I’ve decided to focus on one of my characters and just level him because its fun.

I waited around for like a week for the release of the 40-50 guide and in that time i’ve Got my nether drake and leveled one of the toons i’ve had sitting at 40 for a while now to 50. and they will probably be 70 before the 50-60 guide is revamped.

lol/agree

as nice as Jame’s guides are. They dont teach you to play wow. You could very well be 70 by now, and if you dont know where to go Instance, You’re level 40 theres alot of instances at that level. PvP. Start an alt. L2AH. Jame’s guides aren’t the strict instructions for playing wow.

I dont reccomend Jame’s guides to anyone who’s never played or is new to either horde or alliance. There are some amazing stories that blizz has put in place. Some of them Aren’t covered by Jame’s guides and you dont get the story unless you read the quest text anyways.

Jame We love your guides but make sure they are right.. dont rush. I would rather have a quality guide then have a guide that was rushed to get out so that people stop whining about it.

Dont mean to be a jerk… but oh well. i sound like one.
