This wiki page will help us track who has volunteered to help translate sections of Jame’s Levelling Guides into Jahwo’s Addon, so that we can finally publish an addon that will enable people following Jame’s Guide to do so without alt-tabbing.

If you wish to translate a section of the guide, please read through this list and find a section that you would like to contribute, being careful to select something that you will be able to test yourself and has not already been volunteered by someone else.

How To Volunteer

-Guide Section Name-

  • Volunteer Name: Hosho
  • Date Volunteered: 5th Jan 2009
  • File Location: Hyperlink to the finished and uploaded .lua file.

Add your name and the date you volunteered to the table below, and then, when you are done with your contribution, upload it somewhere and paste the link here. You can put it anywhere you like, but I recommend using the form at the bottom of the edit page of this wiki to add the file as an attachment. You can then link to the file in a similar way to linking images in wow-pro guides, but using URL BBCode tags instead of IMG ones.

Thanks for contributing!

Whew!!!!I played my Death Knight and have him about halfway through Borean Tundra.

I then decided to mess around and try to figure out the problem. I renamed WTF to WTF-Old and restarted WoW. None of my settings were there so I changed WTF to WTF-New and renamed WTF-Old back to WTF. I was then able to copy that characters file out of the new into the old. The only thing that was messed up at that point was my chat boxes (Prat). I quickly fixed those and I’m back running perfectly again.

I’m hoping to have Grizzly Hills up for review and possibly do a run through of Dragonblight over the weekend.

Almost done with testing ofAlmost done with testing of Alliance 30-40. I’ll have to go back through again to add the new step completion conditions to get it closer to the 99% auto-complete mark.

Alliance 40-50 is halfway coded (by the way, I found it much, much easier to make an .lua file for each level, helps trememdously in debugging syntax issues) and will be tested soon with my 37 pally who’s running through the former guide.

On a lark, I coded Snowflake’s Draenei Starting Guide and added class quests. Testing it now with a shaman and should upload it in the next day or so. I’ll finish 40-50 and then Bloodmyst, and then 50-60 most likely.

If by then no one’s volunteered for the Alliance Outland guides, I’ll start tackling them too.

I don’t believe it…..My Hunter finished Howling Fjord and made the flight into Dragonblight. I was going to try to do the first couple of quests with the mod up until I can set my hearthstone at the inn.

During the flight I switched the mod to Alliance Dragonblight, then stretched the window a little bit. I then grabbed the title bar and was going to move it from the left side of the screen to the right and it just disappeared. I tried several /ja commands and it wouldn’t come up. I did a /console reloadui and nothing.

The one character that’s ready to test the mod is the one character that can’t see the mod. I can log on with any of my other characters and can bring the mod up, but not this one.

I deleted the WPro.lua out of WTF/Account/*My Account*/*Realm*/*Character*/SavedVariables in the hopes that it would reset the info. That didn’t work so I copied those files over from another toon, no luck.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to get the mod back?

I can go to the Game Menu -> Interface -> AddOns -> and Wow-Pro is there. I can click on Alliance and it brings up my guide, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I looked at Swatter and there aren’t any errors.

    Any ideas????

Thanks Again!!!I was just thinking about how I’ve worded my posts about the guide and I apologize stephinroth.

I keep putting in the list that it needs to be THOROUGHLY tested. I hope you don’t think that I don’t appreciate what you’ve done, it’s just that I’m SURE there are more errors than you’ve found, particularly towards the end of the guide. I really do appreciate you going through the guide and finding my errors.

On another note, I went through and replaced all of my full words with the first initial code (coordinate to c, objective to o, etc.) and it saved me 8.2K on the file size. Granted, 8K isn’t much but when the file was less than 80K and I took 8 off, that’s a 10% savings. Just wanted to point that out to others that are thinking about coding a guide.

regZoneI knew how to use the command, I’m just not sure what the exact zone is that you port back and forth to. I think I just put Stormwind, Orgrimmar (sp?) and Undercity in those steps. I think you’re actually going to Stormwind Keep for part of those and I couldn’t remember for the others. Wasn’t sure those steps would auto-complete for the zones I had stated.

I’ll PM Jahwo about the google code.

    Thanks!

regZone and googlecode[quote=JamesL85]I used regZone on those steps and I’m pretty sure I didn’t use the right zones…LOL Then I’ll probably put something in the steps when they do not have auto completion on them. Jame, you mentioned that you put that in one of yours. What text did you put in exactly?[/quote]
The zones you need to use for regZone are quite simple, depending on your needs, of course. If you want to test the entry into undercity, the correct line would be
    [code][/code]

[quote=JamesL85]What is the google code status? I remember seeing it somewhere, but I’m not familiar with it. Is that something I can post the guides to so they’re downloaded as one package, or is that something that you (or someone) will have to manually do? What about posting it on Curse? I have a couple of guildies that might be able to test it but as hard as I’ve tried, some steps are getting missed somewhere. As for posting the guides directly to the[url=http://code.google.com/p/wowpro-addon]googlecode[/url] project, you’d better PM [url=https://www.wow-pro.com/users/jahwo]Jahwo[/url], as he’s the project admin; only he can add members to the project.

Text changeYeah, me too. Mostly I cut up text to have seperate coords or I remove text like “as shown on the map” and the such.
I do like the wording in the guides so I try to stick as close too it as possible.

    They did the real work
    /applaud

  • img
    Jan 21, 2009 @ 1:54 am

Personally I’ve found myselfPersonally I’ve found myself doing a whole bunch of that. It’s mostly been making things shorter and taking out descriptions that are no longer needed with the coordinate system. I don’t think this is so much of a problem, seeing how the guide format and the addon format call for different handling of text.

I don’t think the authors of the guides should have much of a problem with this, since the essence of the guides that most needs to be kept in there is when to get quests, when to turn them in, and in which order (and how) to do them. As long as this is followed and you’re not completely rewriting the guide, I think you should be okay.

If all the guides could be as concise and as functional as Jahwo’s translation of Maw’s 1-12 guide, I think things would be pretty seamless.

  • img
    Jan 21, 2009 @ 1:17 am

Not sure….As far as the coordinates, when I have one that has several steps, I generally put the final destination coordinates in. They’ll eventually figure out how to get to that point.

As far as shortening the text up, I’m not one to say. IMO, as long as you get the point across, I don’t think it’s a problem. If you know who the original guide author is, you can probably PM them and ask them about it.

Original guide consistencyHello, i just recently start working on converting bloodbane’s tirisfal leveling guide to the add on and im starting to worry about consistency to the original guide. I find myself taking out certain words to make it “fit” better into the add on. For instance taking out the word “now” out of the beginning of steps. This might not be a big deal but when you start to have lines like :

“After that run back to Deathknell and go to the graveyard and find Marla’s Grave. Which is just north of the church.
“Use” it and get the complete message of Marla’s Last Wish.”

and you change that to :

Run back to the graveyard in Deathknell(north of the church) and use Marla’s Grave.

The reason this would better fit is that its shorter and i can just link them straight to the grave vs try to figure out some coordinates they have to run too first.(I dont know how wide of a range would set that off either)

I know this is probably more of an author question but i just wanted to see what was thought about it. Thanks.

    Jan 20, 2009 @ 20:06 pm

ThanksOK. That hopefully takes care of most of the problems with Dragonblight. I still have to change it so that it uses regBind and regFlight instead of regCoords on some of the steps. I really need to have someone tell me on the final section when you go back to Varian Wrynn (sp?) through the fight for Undercity. I used regZone on those steps and I’m pretty sure I didn’t use the right zones…LOL Then I’ll probably put something in the steps when they do not have auto completion on them. Jame, you mentioned that you put that in one of yours. What text did you put in exactly?

My Hunter is about 1/2 way through Howling Fjord, but then my Death Knight will go through Borean Tundra before I get a toon to Dragonblight to test it myself.

What is the google code status? I remember seeing it somewhere, but I’m not familiar with it. Is that something I can post the guides to so they’re downloaded as one package, or is that something that you (or someone) will have to manually do? What about posting it on Curse? I have a couple of guildies that might be able to test it but as hard as I’ve tried, some steps are getting missed somewhere. regQuest bugI guess you had something like
    [code][/code]
    in your lua file?

If so, this bug should now be fixed in the latest version (0.6.3.0) of the addon; I kept stumbling upon it in way too many combinations, so took the time to figure out what was happening and fixing it.

So with the latest version of the addon, there shouldn’t be any problems anymore with reg ordering. 🙂

Google codeThe code is in a Google code project and available in anonymous HTTP svn. This is mainly for the code and the guides that are included.

I suppose you are refering to the unfinished guides that some wow-pro.com members are writing. I guess if you’d like you could join the Google Code project for one file.

I’m a big fan of source control, so if this method is prefered I’d join right away.

    Jahwo, any thoughts on this?

Thanks!!!I appreciate you going through this and finding my errors.

I’ve been out of town all weekend and have most of the steps fixed except for the problem at line 144 (now line 145). I’m wondering if I should split that step up and make you get all the crab traps before you go to Kili’ua’s Atoll. For now, I’ve just switched the order of the regQuests. Not sure if that will make a difference or not. Can you clarify that for me Jahwo?

Made the guide as rogue, so I’m 100% sure the rogue quests should be fine.

    Any feedback is welcome !

Source-code controlMaybe someone already mentioned this, or it’s already been done? If not… it’s probably a good idea to move the guides (and addons) over to github.com. That way the code is maintained and it’s easier for people to contribute.

But even with the change, it’s still not working. When I loaded up WoW, it said, “InterfaceAddOnsWoWProGuidesBostonAlliance2030.lua:92: “}” expected (to close “{” at line 3) near ‘now’.”

    Still testingHallo again
Im now at step 200 in the Alliance 30-40 guide and still looks very good 🙂 only 1 bug since last update.
At step 178 the green color for the location isn’t “closed” so the whole step is green and not just the location 🙂

All the coords has been correct so far.

Thats all for me today, going to test more tomorrow 😀

I also noticed the failureI also noticed the failure to auto-complete on that step. As far as not doing the optional grinding circuit, you should be at Thalanaar at that point, not Dustwallow Marsh, but I see your point. It didn’t take so much traveling back when there was a boat from Auberdine to Theramore, but alas, I’d rather have to do that then make the dreaded trip through the Wetlands with a low level character just to get to the other continent.

unable to testAfter working on Boston’s 20-30 guide for a little while today, I tried to test it. I opened up the Guides.xml (or whatever it is), added the line, changed the name and opened up WoW. When I logged in, I opened up the menu to choose the guide, but it’s not on there. I even compared my guide to the ones that work and there are no differences… I was able to do it with the unfinished Alliance Dragonblight guide, so why can’t I do it with mine?

I have simply given up onI have simply given up on the horde 41-51 guide.
It’s a too large guide to start with. I’ll try one of the starting guides.

    Any1 wanna take over?
Jame, can I send the current lua file to you?

JameAlliance3040.lua Testing So i began testing the 30-40 guide, and s far it only showed 1 bug 🙂 I have tried the first 100-110 steps (cant remember the exact step). The first bug as an autocomplete bug, when u take the Hemet Nesingwary Jr. quest, it wont autocomplete. I think that only again it is about the “.” in the condition [code][/code]

I also found a “bug” in the guide, not the addon, but Jame’s guide. In the first 100-110 steps i went from Darkshore/Ashenvale to Dustwallow Marsh and back again 3-4 times. I think i had more travelling than normal, because i skipped the “optional grinding steps”, but anyway maybe you/some should take a look at the guide, e.g I am in Dustwallow Marsh and it says, if you wanna take the optional grinding steps, go to …., if not go to Darkshore. So i went to Darkshore :), then go to Forrest Song, and move though The Barrens to Ratchet. Oh My God, Dustwallow Marsh is right next to Ratchet! I could have skipped all the flying and just walked from Dustwallow Marsh to Ratchet.

Well the addon is pretty good and the guides too, just have a bit of failure. Too much travelling at the beginning.

Going to test some more later today, in school at the moment.

I’ll test the guide as soon as I get one of my characters in that level bracket.

Alliance 30-40 is ready for testing! Finally got all the formating nice and uniform and finished adding in the auto-step completions. Checked most coordinates that were necessary to check. The ones I got from Wowhead I left as is for the most part since they were accurate enough when I checked them.

Other than a coordinate display bug in Thalanaar and Rebel Camp and regZone not wanting to work between Hillsbrad Foothills and Alterac Mountains, everything else seems OK.

Will be doing a complete run through with a level 30 character to see if any adjustments/typos/what-have-yous need to be made. Please feel free to PM me with any issues you have. Next up is 40-50.

H_2131Haha, someone found out the grass is greener in [l]Mulgore[/l] 😉

I saw that [n]Kwaice[/n] volunteerd for the follow-up guide, but if he isn’t working on it (or the [q]12-20 guide[/q] has been [o]approved[/o]), I don’t mind [G]taking it up. I’ve gotten quite the hang of it.

    lol

I should have a skeleton guide up in no-time. After that I’ll split up the steps further and add the completion conditions and coords.

The coords usually take the longest since I have to find out which quest is picked up/turned in at which NPC, etc… You know what, I’m gonna make me a litte wowhead gopher program 😀

H_Barrens.lua RC1This is the last time I’ve fixed the 12-20 Barrens guide myself. I haven’t tested it myself, but I’m going a bit OCD on it 😀 lol

If anyone gives a thumbs up on it, I’ll consider it finished. But any feedback is welcome and I’ll try to fix it right away. I hope to get it to de facto standard the 1-12 Human guide is praised to be ( one can only aspire? 😉 Haven’t done that guide yet… that would be my first Alliance toon  /jk )

Any requests for guides to tackle next? I’m quite enjoying this stuff.

    For the Horde!

Crap Again….I seem to say that a lot….LOL

I misunderstood the whole “one quest on a line” thing. I thought you meant that you only wanted one turn in or one get on the screen at a time.

Please take a look at what I’ve done and tell me if what I’ve done has spread things out too far. I can do it again without a problem.

After looking at the first 20 or so steps on the 1-12 Human Guide, I see what you mean…..Just put a new line in the code….LOL

Alliance Dragonblight Updated Jan 15, 2009I followed the advice of Jame and Jebediah54 and reworked what I had completed so far with Dragonblight. Most things are single steps and most are auto complete, the exceptions being informational.

Please take a look and let me know what you think.

I’m going Chilled Meat farming for a bit to do my 3 cooking dailies and then I’ll look at the 1-12 Human guide to “objectively” compare what I’ve done, in an “un-biased” way, of course….LOL

regCoords fires if theregCoords fires if the distance to the target is less than 10. I thought about making a optional parameter for regCoords that allows the guide writer to specify this distance.

Time Consuming….It is time consuming, but I’ve always enjoyed coding (several flavors of basic and some C++). When it’s finished and it actually works is a rush!!!

I have used the regZone for flying to a new area, but I haven’t had the chance to test it yet. I too use the coords for walking to the take off point (I hope).

I may have confused a couple of points though. It might have been the proximity to a TomTom waypoint that I was mixing up with the regCoords command. Maybe Jahwo can tell us how close we need to be to the coordinates for the regCoords to fire. If it’s an exact number, we may want to plan on just using 2 decimals for the coords instead of being exact to 3 or 4. That will cause people to get frustrated and just click next, defeating the purpose of the auto-step. Thoughts?

    regCoords and Flight PathsHey James,

It takes a bit more time than it seams, doesn’t it 🙂

For the flight masters I have tried to put the coords in for where you come from, but use <regZone=Destination> for completing the step when you land. Hoping that this prevents people from not noticing they are already at the coords and try to follow the arrow – now pointing at the next step while not having taken the FP to the destination.

Same thing with moving to a completely different zone, since coords in the Destination zone point somewhere completely different while you are still in the old zone. e.g. when you zone from The Barrens to Stonetalon Mountains:

    H_Barrens.lua:
    {“[M]Follow the road west, <regZone=Stonetalon Mountains>”,0.334,0.269},
    {“[M]Follow the road west, <regCoords>”,0.70,0.87},

Haven’t tested it yet though 😀 I’ll try to do that asap
