This wiki page will help us track who has volunteered to help translate sections of Jame’s Levelling Guides into Jahwo’s Addon, so that we can finally publish an addon that will enable people following Jame’s Guide to do so without alt-tabbing.

If you wish to translate a section of the guide, please read through this list and find a section that you would like to contribute, being careful to select something that you will be able to test yourself and has not already been volunteered by someone else.

How To Volunteer

-Guide Section Name-

  • Volunteer Name: Hosho
  • Date Volunteered: 5th Jan 2009
  • File Location: Hyperlink to the finished and uploaded .lua file.

Add your name and the date you volunteered to the table below, and then, when you are done with your contribution, upload it somewhere and paste the link here. You can put it anywhere you like, but I recommend using the form at the bottom of the edit page of this wiki to add the file as an attachment. You can then link to the file in a similar way to linking images in wow-pro guides, but using URL BBCode tags instead of IMG ones.

Thanks for contributing!

Doh!It just dawned on me. If you put the coords in for the nearest repair vendor, you could use the regCoords to go to the next step. I never thought of that. I’ve been putting in coords for the flight points but haven’t been doing the regCoords step…..Excellent idea!!! Thanks!

We’ll still need someone to test them. If you’re standing too close to the flight point when that comes up, it may completely skip the step…..I’ll keep that in mind also….

CrapI had just gone through last night and combined some “turn in” and “get” steps into a single step, thinking that was what people would want….LOL

That’s why I posted the partial file though. I’ll go back through the file and break them up into single steps.

I’m just glad someone is taking a look at the file!!! LOL

    Please keep the suggestions coming.

    Horde 12-20 Barrens completed*phew*

The initial version of the Barrens guide is finished, but is yet to be tested. I haven’t even tried to load it in WoW yet (but used some RegExps for some syntax checking, so it should work /crossfingers).

Any feedback is welcome, I’ll try to test parts of it myself asap (I just turned in ‘The Zhevra’ last night, but just made some changes in that part).

    Enjoy the Barrens chat!
    Zyzx

PS: If you find mistakes in the guide, please quote part of the step instead of mentioning the step number, since that may change during editing and they are not even mentioned in the .lua file.

I definitely agree withI definitely agree with that. The 1-12 Human guide is a masterpiece, almost every single step is automated, every quest you turn in and pick up, even the “sell junk and repair” has an arrow directing you to the nearest merchant.

The aim is to have the same level of quality as this chapter for ALL chapters, and then we’ll have the best leveling addon ever.

Need someone to take overI was working on the Horde Blade’s Edge Mountains section, but school is just crazy now and I really don’t have time to finish it. If someone would be willing to take over, that would be great.

Jame, can I send you the incomplete file for you to upload, so that others can hopefully use what I have done thus far?

Thanks, and sorry I don’t have time to finish it.

Just for a better look…I tried the 1-12 Human guide today, and I liked the way each turn-in and get were on different lines. After I got to 12, I loaded the Alliance Dragonblight guide (just to see how it looked) and I think it could be improved by putting the quests on their own lines. This isn’t necessary, but I feel it adds a bit more of a look of professionalism.

Also, as I tested the 1-12 guide, I noticed that you have to be within 3-5 (whatevers) of the quest giver’s location, according to the add-on, for it to automatically advance. Again, this isn’t necessary, but if it’s possible, could you increase the distance a bit or remove the requirement of being at the coords to have it on auto?

    teamwork!Thanks Drudoo!
now that’s the power of community 😉

I just finished the guide with my troll priest (respect for all the high level priests out there!) and noticed some coords being slightly off.

I added the coords for Orgrimmar here:

    {“[M]Go to [l]Orgrimmar[/l]”,0.455,0.116},
    {“[M]Go to [n]Thrall[/n] and [T]turn in [q]Hidden Enemies[/q], [G]get the same-name followup. “,0.327,0.379},

And fixed these coords at the end:

{“[M]Go back to [l]Razor Hill[/l] and pick up [q]Conscript of the Horde[/q]. Then follow [o]Hosho’s Guide to the Barrens[/o] to Level 20, then follow [o]Jame’s Guide[/o] all the way to 80. “,0.509,0.436},

I just posted a partial H_Barrens.lua file, but I am still working on the coords on that one (I fixed my syntax error just now, yay!). I’ll keep you guys posted!

Where to upload?I have finished a guide (didn’t put on the volunteer list, figured no one would take it) of the Engineering Guide 1-450, but where would be the best spot to upload, to get added onto the site?

Tried and tested and seems to work perfectly.

    TIA,

Alliance – Grizzly HillsI’ve seen a couple people saying that they’re working on the Alliance Grizzly Hills section, so I’ve taken my name out of there. After I finish the Dragonblight section, I would like to get my Hunter through Howling Fjord and my Death Knight through Borean Tundra.

I’ll volunteer to do Zul’Drak though. I have 3 sitting in Dalaran waiting on that section. I can write the guide and run through it three times to check for errors.

If no one else volunteers for Grizzly Hills, I’ll take a stab at it also.

Not fixedIt is not fixed yet. I cant do it myself.

I had to remove the “….” from the condition code. Now it looks like [code][/code] But it should look like this [code][/code] There is 3 places were this quest is mentioned, and they all need to be fixed with “….” at the end, by someone who know the codes a bit better than me 😀

    Jan 12, 2009 @ 17:57 pm

Thank you About that questThank you 😉

About that quest containing “….”. Is it fixed? If not, can someone look into it and fix it please?

Updated listUpdated the list with all the 1-12 and 12-20 guides, with links to the guides we want converted in addon format. Now all we need is someone to volunteer for them 🙂

Also, I think we should split the Outland guides per zones. Instead of having someone do the whole 60-65 chapter for example, we should divide in 3 .lua files:

    Hellfire
    Zangarmarsh
    Terokkar

    Etc.

If someone could update the list with those changes it’d be great, I’m out of time right now 🙂

  • img
    Jan 12, 2009 @ 12:50 pm

Of course, we definitelyOf course, we definitely want to cover all 1-80 levels and for all races 🙂

All we need is members of wow-pro to step up and do it. I can’t do it myself right now, my hands are full with the WotLK leveling guides I need to finish.

  • img
    Jan 12, 2009 @ 9:30 am

Testing Im also up for testing them, i got a lvl 30 and would like to get the 30-40 guide. If i find a bug i will be able to fix it myself, so if someone needs testing gief guides 😀

lower? Are there any plans on adding the first levels to the addon, maybe all of the 1-12, 12-20, and 20-30? I think these would make sense as it wouldn’t just be 30-80, but 1-80, eliminating the guess work for those that don’t want to maximize the leveling process.

  • img
    Jan 12, 2009 @ 1:46 am

Yea that’s also much needed.Yea that’s also much needed. With the help of everyone working on these addons version and testing them, we’ll end up reaching a very nice level of quality.

TestingWhile I won’t be able to help convert the guides, I will be available to help test some of them. I’m planning on making a new Human, so I can use him for the lower level guides. My main is just finishing the Dragonblight guide, but I’ll probably ding 80 early (I’m about a level and a half above where the guide says to be), so I can use him for the high level guides.

Alliance – DragonblightI have uploaded what I have so far for Alliance Dragonblight. It’s my first guide using this and I can probably join some steps together to shorten things up. I also had all of this written before the regQuest part of the mod was written, so not all steps will automatically go to the next stage.

Just looking for someone who has a toon getting a fresh start in Dragonblight to help me debug. I tried to put in coords to pick up each quest and turn each quest in. Unfortunately, my wife and I are remodeling our upstairs bathroom over the weekend so I won’t have the guide finished as soon as I had intended…. 🙁

Please reply to this or send me a PM with errors.

Sorry guysDue to some school problems, I won’t be able to finish the 40-50 Alliance guide. With all of the homework I have from my AP classes, I don’t have much time to work on it and I doubt you want to wait a month to have it done.

Thanks for understanding, and keep on working hard!

UpdateAll right also started off rocky but have about 1/2 of hellfire coded now will continue working on it tomorrow. Don’t know if the way I am doing will run through the auto complete but if not can always go back and edit it if not. How is everyone else coming along? Hope things are going well especially since the general opinion seems to be pretty evenly split. I figure both will be worked on for a while so happy coding 😀

I ended up disablingI ended up disabling everything but the WoWPro mod. I wasn’t going to do anything but debug the code in the .lua so it wasn’t a big deal.

On a side note, are we supposed to only upload the .lua when we have completely finished the section? I don’t have a toon in Dragonblight right now and wouldn’t mind if someone else played through what I have finished while I’m working on more stuff. Is it OK to add a line in the wiki to put an uploaded date with how much is complete? If you’d rather I waited until it was completely finished, that’s fine.

RE:I have found when I am testing coding I cut my addons down to the essentials (bartender and whatever I am working on usually) once I have the stuff hashed out code wise I can then turn back on my usual mass of addons and things run fine.

Just got off of work and going to start on my lines of code for the night will update the wiki to reflect that.

Sure, no problem. I finallySure, no problem. I finally fixed all the formating for Alliance 30-40. Now I just need to run through to get some coordinates checked and then a final test run with my 30 pally to make sure everything’s good to go. I can start working on 40-50 in a few days I think.

Thanks!!!I’ll be glad when I finally reach the rank where my comments don’t have to be proof-read!!!! LOL

Have put in a couple since your reply and I have to thank you for the tip.

I was able to (with VERY little effort) get the first step going with the newest version of the mod. It’s now 11:30 and I haven’t quite drank my weight in beer tonight, but I gave it my best!!!!

I’ll do more work on this when I finish work tomorrow.

The ReloadUI is still relatively slow, due to all of my mods, but I don’t have to wait to log out and then log back in…..It’s just about the same as the login delay. Thanks a bunch again!!!

  • img
    Jan 8, 2009 @ 5:48 am

Second AttemptAfter given the command “/console ReloadUI” to keep me from having to log in and out, I’m going to do some work on Alliance – Grizzly Hills tonight. It’s almost 11 PM and I want to do some checking to see how well I do, so this is a tentative volunteer claim. Don’t put it in concrete yet….LOL

Thank you VERYThank you VERY MUCH!!!!

That makes my decision MUCH easier!!!

I’m using Bartender4 and I’ll make a macro for that and place a button on one of the openings for that. I was getting frustrated logging in and out of the game to try one line. Thank you a TON!!!

I guess I’m off to volunteer for Alliance – Grizzly Hills and see what I can get done!!!!

ClarificationI just re-read my post and it sounded a little harsh so I feel I need to clarify my frustrations.

I could write a HUGE post about all the problems that I had, but that would be pointless. 75% of the time I spent working on the guide was when I was using an outdated mod. Once I figured that out I was able to get the first step in and it worked fine. I logged back out and put in the next 4 or 5 steps but there was apparently an error somewhere in those lines and it didn’t work again. It wasn’t the mods fault, I occasionally have “fat fingers” when I type.

I would dearly love to contribute to this project, once it is decided which mod will be used, or if both will be….Doesn’t matter to me. I wouldn’t mind contributing to both mods.

I’m just curious if there is an application that can be coded to preview the .lua that might at least point to which line has the “fat finger” error. I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with a 2.16G processor and 2G of RAM so I’m not lacking hardware-wise. My problem is a have a TON of mods and it takes FOREVER to load the game after I select a toon. If I have to log out and in after every line I try to type, I’ll end up with even fewer hairs on my 42 year old head than I have now.

So this ends another long winded post. I just hope that I didn’t ruffle anyones feathers by my previous post and if I did, I apologize. I’m the FNG here (Fucking New Guy) and didn’t want to make any enemies.

The .lua is loaded when youThe .lua is loaded when you log-in so if you want to add new files to an add-on you have to exit the game and log back in. If you are just editing an existing file that is already loaded you just have to save the file and reload the UI by typing
    [code]/console ReloadUI[/code]
You can put this in a macro for easy one-click access

Wondering…..I gave the Alliance – Dragonblight section a try the other night but quickly became frustrated. The .lua is loaded when you log in and any changes are not seen until you log back out and then back in, correct?
