Introduction

This is an addon for ingame guides of every sort, including the famous guides by Jame: Alliance/Horde

Please be considerate because this addon has not been made by a professional! If you find errors please make a screenshot and send it to me (Jahwo) with a description of what you did when the error occurred.

If you find mistakes in the guides or wrong/missing coordinates please write a comment or send me a PM.

Currently Included

Alliance:

  • Maw’s Human Leveling Guide (1-12)

Horde:

  • Jame’s Leveling Guide Dragonblight (74-75)
  • Jame’s Leveling Guide Grizzly Hills (75-77)
  • Zernij’s Durotar Leveling Guide 1-12

More guides will follow soon.

Installation

  1. Download the latest version of the Addon: WoW-Pro Addon (v0643)
  2. Unzip the package
  3. Copy the folder WoWPro to your Addons folder. (\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons)

How to use it

  • Before you start with the guides you should bind a key to the “Next Step” function. You can do that by going into the Key Bindings-Menu (press ESC –> Key Bindings) and scroll down to the bottom. There you should find a Option called “JamesAddon Next Step“. Bind a key to it you can easily reach, because you’ll use it a lot.
  • To open a guide click on the button. The WoW-Interface menu will open. There you can choose a guide from the categories “Alliance“, “Horde“, “Both” and “Other
  • In the options menu you can also change the transparency of the frame. Just drag the Transparency-slider to the right for more transparency.
  • If you want to go to an other step you can enter the step-number in the edit box at the bottom and press enter.
  • Many steps have a coordinate you have to go to. The arrow at the topleft circle shows you where to go. If it shows to the top and becomes golden you’re on the right way.
  • Additionally you can see the distance to the actual target in the progressbar next to the arrow.
If you reached the coordinate the arrow will change to this:
  • You can toggle the window wit the slash-commands /jamesaddon or /ja
  • You can change the height by dragging the top or bottom of the textarea. The area where you can drag will change red if you move your mouse over it, like that:

Now you’re ready to go! Choose your guide and start leveling.

Include new Guides

If you downloaded a single guide from the list below, or got it from wherever else you should have a .lua file.

Put this file into the Guides-folder in the Addon-folder. The full path is:

World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\WoWPro\Guides

Now you have to register that guide in the “table of contents“. Just open the “Guides.xml” file with a text-editor of your choice.
There you have to add a line between the < Ui > and < /Ui > tags:

<script file="theguide.lua"/>

Where theguide.lua is the filename of the guide you want to add.

Single guides

more to come…

Very good. So, I have just finished Dragonblight using this guide (I’ve started with this addon, worked with the site and I did the last 40% with the addon. So, I see you have improved a lot, now it’s nearly perfect for me. It’s easily movable, re-sizeable and finally it is very easy to browse to the steps. The only thing I miss it’s the Dragonblight group quest-map, but I know it is impossible to add that in the addon. Anyway, once I clear the group quests in DB, I’ll go onwards wit Grizzly Hills , always using the addon. I hope that you keep it updated mate 🙂

    Hrm :/

    I guess this wasHrm :/

I guess this was bound to happen eventually.

See, I’ve been doing something similar; I’ve been writing a plugin for the TourGuide addon by Tekkub. Admittedly, I’ve been a wee bit slack about it, but so far I’ve managed (Horde side, haven’t even looked at Alliance yet):

    Ghostlands
    21-31
    Hellfire Peninsula
    Zangarmarsh
    Terokkar Forest
Nagrand (this should take you to 70… I think)
    Howling Fjord
    Borean Tundra
    Dragonblight
    ~50% of Grizzly Hills

Unfortunately, the TG format, while pretty much as time consuming as yours (perhaps a little less, it would come down to familiarity, I’d say), is pretty much incompatible.

While perhaps not as pretty (and requiring an external plugin for coordinates, namely the addon TomTom), TG does have the advantage of automatically moving on upon objective completion (just that it occasionally takes some… imaginative formatting).

So, I guess the question is now… what do I do with it? If this one is going to become the standard, I’d rather just cut my losses and not waste any more time transcribing Jame’s guides into TG format…

    So… what now? 😕

Rapidshare –> WoWProI see some people complaining about rapidshare. Why not just host the addon here? Upload the file as an attachment and link to it from there. Just an idea 🙂

Will this support dungeon guides as wellJust as a thought, but will this support the various dungeon guides on this site as well? Would be great to make sure you have all the quests before venturing in as well as having a guide on the various bosses so you would not have to go out of the game to find them.

Something to think about perhaps. Otherwise, this is a great idea and I will be getting the add-on to start helping tonight!

Awesome job!Plugging the guides into this addon is a huge job, and many people seem keen to help out, so I did a quick guide showing peeps how to plug the guides in themselves. I’ll leave it to sit there, it’s up to Jahwo if he wants to accept help or organise some kind of way for people to contribute, but it’s extremely easy to do, just time-consuming.

    here it is.

    Excellent work with the addon!

I’d like to helpI want to contribute to this. I took a look at the code and it seems pretty straightforward; even a coding newbie like me could do it pretty easily, I think. Who would I collaborate with to make sure both of us aren’t doing the same one? Or do you want this to be a one-person project for consistency’s sake?

    AwesomeThis rocks

Looks good, but ILooks good, but I unfortunately don’t have a character in this level bracket so I’ll have to wait until other guides are put in. I’m hoping to level up an Alliance character for the first time, looking forward to using this. 🙂

I could try to helpI could try to help implementing guides into this addon, if you want any help 🙂

one more thing, when there is room for it, there could be more steps at one time.
It’s annoying when each step is like

    Pick up/turn in (quest)

    next:

    Pick up/turn in (quest)

    and so on :p

Excellent! I’ll test thisExcellent! I’ll test this thoroughly once I finish the Borean Tundra guide with my paladin. I’d like to give a hand with implementing more guides but my knowledge of addon writing is zero 🙁

Ok. I used it to finishOk. I used it to finish Dragonblight and i must say it was very enjoyable being able to play in full screen.

The directional arrow is very useful and nicely done. I didn’t see any bug so far but i also closed the window and wasn’t able to figure out how to bring it back.

    Very nice work !

Haha, nice it’s the hordeHaha, nice it’s the horde Dragonblight guide, my Tauren Boomkin just finished the Borean guide, so I’ll check it out 😉

BTW, how hard is it to implement a guide into the addon?
Can you put it on Curse?
How do we know when there’s a new version?

    Thanks

    I don’t think aThanks 🙂

I don’t think a auto target is necessary beacause the coordinates send you directly to neraly every npc in the guides. Also auto-targeting is not ver reliable. 🙂

Hey nice job. I tried itHey nice job. I tried it this afternoon but sadly I don’t have any character available at the moment for this level bracket, so I could only check the layout. It’s looks promising though.

    One suggestion:

It would be great to be able to minimize the window. I clicked it away once and then I couldn’t get it back up. I think it would be a nice addition, being able to minimize it / maximize it at will.

    Jan 2, 2009 @ 18:42 pm

Awesome job, very well done.Awesome job, very well done. One suggestion, maybe when you click the next step if there is a npc you need to interact with it could auto target that npc? Thanks for such a great addon!
